  1. My first use of the drop mission on each new character is the "Defeat 10 Circle of Thorns in Perez" from the Atlas Park Security Chief.
  2. I doubt you have to set them at 50+. I would say that most characters above 30 can handle most customs, unless you are going for all Hard/Extreme settings on the powersets.

I wouldn't set an arc with only customs for 1-54, because of the difficulties of balancing them for the entire range, but it is entirely possible to create custom mobs for low levels if you take into account the limitations of PCs at that level range. No EBs/AVs, standard settings only, avoiding mez/control powers on minions, etc.

Basically, it comes down to create what you want with the level ranges you want to use. If people like it, they will play it, if not, they won't.
  3. Their names in game are Marrowsnap and Marrow Drinker. You actually fight them in the Bonfire arc, which you can get form Lorenzo DiCosta, Willy Starbuck, or Wes Schnabel at levels 9-14. Other than that, and what is on Paragonwiki, which is copied from the official information here, we don't really know anything.

    "Future's End"

Well, I hope nobody tries finding this by searching for just the title, since I know of at least one more arc named this. (Hint: The link in my signature. )
  5. Not to mention, the Nemesis system was first thought up by Positron, but Statesman didn't want it (Or possibly didn't think it could be put in) so they have not added it in yet. But if they do manage to add it, with COH improvements of course (My pick for next big thing after GR), then it would hardly be stealing from CO. It would be the originator putting it into the game he thought it up for.
  6. And no place in my post did I say it was an obligation. But the only way people can learn is by getting feedback in some form. Since I want better stories available to play, I give feedback. Because I want to make the stories I create the best I can, I need to get feedback, from as many people as possible.

You seem to be saying that feedback is only useful before your arc is published. So am I correct that everything you have published in the MA has been set to Final status at first publication, and you have not made any changes to anything in you arcs after that first publication? If this is true, my hat is off to you and I freely aknowledge you are a better writer then I am.

I, OTOH, will have to continue to muddle through, getting my stories as polished as possible, then publishing them marked as Looking For Feedback, and seeing what others think about my ideas and how they can be improved.
  7. Psychoti,

Have you hit the MA:Stories & Lore forum in the For Fun! section? There are several people there that will review your arcs and give you feedback, both in their thread and in game. And it gets your arc in front of those of us that read those reviews.

The reviewers all use different criteria, so it is good to ask a lot of them to look at your stuff. I have had everything from a 2 star to a 5 star on various arc reviews, but it is all good, since it gets the arcs in front of people.

I also tend to give feedback when I've had a real good time with an arc. Particularly if it was a team experience.

Finally, if, based on their activity on these forums, I have a positive impression of the architect, I'll be more likely to give feedback on their work.

But, my basic view is that architects should not be depending on the feedback feature in any way. It's too erratic (wildly varied tastes, preferences, and skill levels), probably too slanted (in general, people seem more inclined to leave positive feedback), and there are many people who either use the feature sparingly or don't use it at all (with good reasons). I think the main source of feedback should be friends/SG mates/fellow authors, with the feedback system serving only as a supplemental to that.
The problem I have with that attitude is first, not everyone has a large group of friends/SGmates in the game, and second, if they do, those people are likely to be too close to the author to be as objective as a complete stranger. Some won't want to hurt a friend's feelings, others already know the story or what the author is attempting, so don't point out problems that others will have following it.

So my default assumption is that no one really needs my input.
On the contrary, I do need your input. If I want to make my arcs or my writing skills in general better, I need to hear feedback from people. Yes it is good to have first readers, but it is better to have a large variety from people with different tastes. I have fixed mistakes, gotten ideas, and, IMHO, greatly improved my arcs because of feedback both here on the forum and in game. I have also ignored some of it, because it was trying to change the story from what I was telling to something else. (The other stories would probably be very good, but they are not the one I am trying to tell. I might not tell that story well, but it is the one I want to tell.)

I personally do give feedback on arcs I play. I 1-star and quit farms when I hit them, but otherwise I try to give suggestions for improving an arc or problems I see while playing. One thing I have enjoyed when I play is setting the search parameters for "Looking For Feedback" and clicking on the one result search button. Sometimes I don't have much to say in those arcs, others I end up sending 4 or 5 tells about things I see in the arc.

I happen to be messing around with a lowbie right now, so....

Overall, I enjoyed this arc. It was a good, fair challenge for a level 1-15 toon. The maps, enemies and the missions overall were fun and seemed to fit the level range nicely. The story was good, not great. Overall I give this a very solid 4 stars. I recommend for any new toons looking to level at AE.
I am not sure how I missed that you had reviewed this last month. But thanks for the review and the kind words. Especially since you seemed to follow the story with no problem. Which is really good to hear after gettting feedback asking why something happens that is explained in 2 or 3 different places in the text.
  10. Yeah, the mobs will only be lowered to their lowest available level, or raised higher then their highest. If there is no suitable boss to use in the level range you want, you are stuck with either using a custom mob or changing your level range. Can't even change to use a Lt., since standard Lt. will not show up to be picked for a boss encounter.
  11. The only thing you can do is test the map and see where stuff actually spawns. Some maps are just bugged, and the only way to know if the map is messed up, and exactly how, is to place objects and bosses in each section, then go in and see where they actually show up.

Best way to do this is to create 3 objects, name them Front, Middle, and Back, then place them in those locations, then do the same with 3 boss objectives. Note that the boss and objective spawns are separate, and one can be messed up or work without affecting the other. Once you have which location each thing spawns, it will be consistent for that map. (Until they get around to fixing the spawn points and screwing up thousands of arcs of course. )

This is the major reason to not use random maps for your arcs, if it is important where and in what order players interact with your objectives. And remember that despite what it shows on the map, there is no Front/Middle/Back on outside maps. All spawn points there are completely random.
  12. Nice. Although you don't have the costume change emotes in it. But it looks like you have "Menu &Interact" and "Menu &Idle" on the same level of submenu, which would mess up the ability to use the shortcuts. Or am I reading the file wrong?

But now we are about to embark on a new issue that really makes changes to how you start the game, and Veterans aren't a part of that? (or at least my beta invitation got lost in the mail?)
And I have been here since the first day of launch. If I get in a closed beta, I enjoy it, if not, then not. Being here a long time is not really that special, there are a lot of us around, more than they can probably use for the beginning part of a closed beta. The only time long time subscribers have gotten rewarded for that is COV Beta (And I was like the 3rd wave invited into that) and GR when its beta starts. Otherwise, we do not know the criteria for getting invited, they will not tell us. (Except for some obvious ones like Arcanaville. Not having her in a closed beta with power changes would be sub-optimal. )

So just play the game, if you get an invite, go test, if not, have fun on live.

The problem with that comparison is, Leslie Thompson is alive and well, and as far as I know has never been shown to "die" in any of the Batman stories she has been in. (Although I did skip the books for many years, so she may have died and came back at some point. She is definitely alive now though.)

The simple answer is, you can't. If there are no standard mobs for a level range, then there aren't. Most villain groups you can fake it by creating some customs to span the gap, like the Family. But that is obviously out with Snakes. You are going to have to pick what levels you want the arc to cover or else get some bad reviews from people that play it while in that gap.

Remove the spaces inside the brackets, those are just to keep the stupid system from automatically trying to convert the above to a link (the code /code doesn't work in this case). You have to do it by hand on this board - it doesn't provide a nifty shortcut like the old one did.
Yes it does provide the ability. Go to your User CP (Upper right corner of the page), click on Edit Options (in the column on the right side of the page), and at the bottom of that page, under Miscellaneous Options, set your Message Editor Interface to either Standard or Enhanced, then Save your settings at the bottom of the page. For the record, if you really want to know about how things work on the board, you could try reading the FAQ, where they have information like this.

  18. COV closed beta, I created a character, trying out the different costume pieces. Ended up with a female covered in fur with the animal head. Really wide body, boob slider smallest possible. I am leveling up after the tutorial and someone says, "Hey, sexy outfit." He then asked if I wanted to team and have some fun together. I told him I was a guy, but he was still interested in "having fun." Logged off, never got that character to level 3.
  19. Are you just putting them in a group and setting that group as the one for the map? Spawns like that follow the same rules as they do in the regular game, mostly minions, a few Lts., with Bosses showing up for higher difficulty and/or larger teams.

If you want to fight a particular mob, like your customs as an AV/EB, set a Boss objective, choose whatever group the custom is in, then pick which custom you want to show up. You would need to do this for each AV/EB you want to face, since they do not spawn in the regular spawns. And this way you only face one per mission, unless the creator deliberately sets more then one of the same.
  20. The only way to really be sure about where something will spawn on a particular map is to test it. Create objects named Front, Back, and Middle, place them in the locations that match, then go on the map and see where they really show up. Do the same for Boss, ambush, hostage, and anything else you want to be sure of. Mob spawns are usually okay, but it only takes one showing up in the wrong place to screw up your mission. Also, the object and mob spawns can be, and usually are, messed up separately. You can have an object set for the middle that spawns with the boss who is set for the back.

Outside maps do not have front, middle, or back, no matter what the map actually says. Anything placed on them spawns randomly.

Because of the problems with spawning points, if your missions has requirements about placements to make your story work, Random maps are a very, very bad idea.

    How did this happen?
Is there a way to specify what you want?

The bosses are Paragon Protector Elites, which don't MoG but they do nuke. The all-tank mobs are annoying, tedious, and annoying.

The only way around it is to create some customs and mix them in (the suit guys are pretty easy to make, their costumes are fairly generic, so your customs will blend in nicely) or set the max level of your arc to 45.
I had the same problem with an arc I created, except I didn't want any of the Crey Tanks in it because of the time period I had it set in. So I created a custom group that contained only the non-Tank Crey mobs and made up some customs that could cover the gap after 45. Since I15, I just lowered the level range to the correct levels for avoiding the unwanted mobs, allowing me to mix my custom group and the regular Crey, which helps my story. Now I just need more slots so I can publish it.

If you CAN'T take criticism (good or bad); DON'T put your stuff out there for public consumption. Period. (And yes, you can publish, play an arc with your SG and friends, and Unpublish immediately; so NOT putting an Arc out publically, but still playing for 'rewards' is definitely possible.)
This. Once you put something out for public view, and it doesn't matter what it is, then you have to put up with hearing what the public thinks about it. Whether it is "Your custom characters have stupid names", or "You are over using a hackneyed cliche", or "You have a great story and plot", that is what the public is saying. You may think they are crazy, you may think they are exactly right, or you may think they have good points, but they have every right to feel the way they do about what you published. And they have the right to express those feelings, even if you don't like them.

I got a 2 star from Talen, because he didn't like the way I used the villain group. I disagreed with him, but he has every right to feel that way. We each think the other is wrong, but I don't think he was out of bounds with his reasoning or his ratings.

As someone with 3 published arcs, I have only 2 problems with any feedback I get. 1) There isn't enough of it. 2) When someone tells me there are lots of typos, please, tell me what at least some of them are! Can't fix them if I can't find them, and I have been looking for the last 4 months!

    Slotting Health

On my main, I have the Numina Unique, Numina Heal, Miracle Unique, Miracle Heal (Level 40 since that is all the higher the set goes), and the Regenerative Tissue +Regen IO. Does wonderful things for my regen and Recovery. But it would not be as useful on squishies. Tanks have so many more HPs, the regen bonuses help a lot. The lower numbers that blasters, defenders, etc. have means it is using a lot of slots for not as much payoff. 2 or 3 slots, maybe, more than that and I think they get into diminshing returns. Scrappers and Brutes may find 4 or 5 slots useful, depending on their powersets.
