I'd have liked to see a reference to the movie... if not in a mission (with the Warriors fighting spawns of all the other gangs who blame them), then as a historical note here.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I totally want to see this in Talos Island.
"THIS... IS... NEW SPARTA!"
*Warrior boots Tsoo Enforcer off cliff in Talos*
As for their competition, I'm not saying the Warriors shouldn't be on the losing end sometimes; just that, they hardly seem like a major player, when they always seem to be getting beat-up by someone.
I'd like to see more in-game to emphasize the Family-Trolls-Skulls and Warriors-Outcasts-Hellions links. -
Heh - yeah, the Warriors never seem to be winning against their rivals (the Tsoo & Freakshow, primarily)...
Also, I thought Blade King Caesar was the Warriors' leader. I'll have to go through the old story arcs to double-check that. Maybe he's just a leader, and not the leader.
I hope as we get more weapon powersets (like Shields & Dual Blades), the Warriors might get an upgrade as well. -

I so wish I had some hacker friends that I could sic on gold-farming websites...
Hey, maybe the Devs could make that some kind of paper/scanner mission. You have to go bust up a group of gold-farmers in an abandoned office... hehehe -

I wonder if, now that they're gone, someone might enlighten us as to how they were gotten in the first place

I know the "Defeat signature villains" Safeguard badge meter showed up on my Brute, so I assume that's at least one of them.
I'm glad they're removing the badge from people who already have it. It's fair that way. -

I think it's more interesting how this video came out after the invasion proper was over...
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, that's what I was wondering about. Granted, there's still a lot of spiffy new content to play with. Maybe they didnt' want a bunch of trial accounts lagging up the initial Invasion?
Granted, with the Invasion encore, there's still a chance for the trials to catch it. -
[ QUOTE ]
though I like that you guys are thinking about the Sewer Trial and Eden Trial, I still don't believe you are thinking of it in the correct way.
What you have in those two Trials are two fun, interesting encounters that people have little incentive to mess with now after 40. You've created content for 3 levels, essentially.
Here's my suggestion. Rather than limiting the multi enhancements to the level range for the trial, switch the Eden and Sewer multi enhancements over to Invention Enhancement tech. Make them a level 40 enhancement that never decays.
This gives incentive for people to continue to run the trials after they reach 40. I see no downside to this.
[/ QUOTE ]
I second this. It would be nice if those less-well-known Enhancements were worth the trouble! It would also be nice to see people running the Sewer Trial... oh, I don't know, ever? -

Still don't understand what the big deal is. I think people need to relax and just put it out of their mind.

Eh, the most annoying thing is that it shows up in every chat tab. I have 3 windows and 8 tabs, so it's hard to keep track of when there is a new message from a person on an alternate tab when the Admin alerts cause the tab to "light up".
Considering it's a short-term event, it's not worth fooling with. Well, unless they're going to make a channel to announce zone events in a more permanent fashion. I wouldn't mind having a zone-alert when a GM spawns or the like, actually... -

The number of names that will be freed up will be substantial, if we need to adjust this policy we can do so as long as we grant 30 days notice. So if it is deemed at a later date that more names need to be made available we can do that.

Sweet - this means they're taking a "let's see how it goes" approach. At any rate, YAY for freeing up names on inactive accounts! -

thus the Nictus and evil Peacebringers, will join with Arachnos or become villain options.
[/ QUOTE ]
Psst - the race isn't Peacebringers, it's Kheldians (just like Warshades are a sub-group of Nictus)...
Anyhow, I assume that the villain EATs will be the "unaffiliated" Nictus (ie, non-Council) and Kheldians (whether Nictus slaves or just "bad apples" of their race). That would kind of mirror the "good guy" Peacebringers & Warshades that heroes get as EATs. Personally, I don't like how Peacebringers & Warshades play, so unless the villain versions are significantly different, I'm not really looking forward to it (but that's not really relevant).
Finally... I kind of hope the space/moon stuff isn't related to the "return of the 5th Column". I mean, seriously, that's totally B-movie sci-fi stuff right there... "Nazis... IN SPAAAAaaaace!" -
Wow, it's great to read what's going on "behind the scenes" for my SR Scrapper (at least on average). I've always thought SR seems to be lacking a "little something," but I could never figure out what would boost it to the "Ah, that's how it should be!" level.
Then again, I've never played Invuln or Regen, so I probably don't know how sub-par SR feels in comparison...
Great work on the analysis, matey! -
"Statesman, by various accounts either missing or standing on a battleship in IP, refused to comment"
HAHAHAHA - the best part of the issue, right there...
I'm not sure I'd call those Longbow base-ships "battleships", but still, that was great. You guys do a fine job referring to game mechanics (such as the upcoming Katie Hannon TF fix) in a setting-consistent manner. Well done, me hearties! -

If the money for making this came out of our subscription fees and that money now becomes available to pay for something I can enjoy, like more game content, then I'm happy.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is how I'm takeing the whole thing. Even if I loved the comic (which is not the case) I love the game more and always hope the in-game needs trump the City of side projects.
[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly. I'd rather they focus all their efforts towards the game itself. Both comics had their ups & downs, but neither have ever been the reason we play the game. If, by cutting the comic, they can have just one more Dev fixing bugs, making new content, and helping CoX be a better game, then it's worth it to me. -

This place is not an open soapbox for anyone who wants to stand up and rant and bash the game or to talk about topics not on the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
Huzzah! Let this position be praised!
There is so much off-topic dreck to sort through, it makes it difficult to find useful information. I don't want to read rants on how your character was "nerfed". I don't want to read about your latest adventures with your buddies in the mall. I don't want to read about how awesome some anime/movie/CD/whatever was. I don't care about what you had for lunch, or who your favorite band is, or what you did last summer. And I sure as hell don't want to sort through some illegible aol-chat mess that gets defended as a "valid post", instead of being deleted like the junk it is.
I come to the CoX forums for CoX information. Anything to cut out the BS which tends to plague all official game forums is a very good thing, in my book! -

As for MoG, no comment at this time.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm curious about all of the "suicide powers" in the Defensive sets (MoG, Elude, Overload, etc). The fact that most of them crash so hard means that, if you haven't finished the fight, you're dead when they crash (not unlike the "nuke" crash). I have a hard time seeing why that was implemented, when there's the relatively balanced "you can't attack for X amount of time" and hefty Endurance-penalty that Rage's crash has. Plus auto-killing toggle defenses is just harsh. -
[ QUOTE ]
In CoV, I really felt like I was along for a ride on a railroad doing Lord Recluses story. To me, it didnt feel like my characters were in their own story, it felt like they were a footnote or a foot soldier in the Arachnos and the Lord R. vs the Statesman stories.
[/ QUOTE ]
I feel that's pretty accurate as well. CoV is one big story-arc with Operation: Destiny, and while it's a really awesome story-arc, the problem is that every villain character you make has to go through it (to some degree, if not the complete arc). I haven't tried "skipping" the Patron Arcs, and I'm tempted to with my Robot MM, because his concept has him as disliking Arachnos. I would like to see a more "open ended" side of CoV, much like Burke and Dr. Creed are for beginning characters. -
I'm going with Storylines, though of course the ability to customize your characters via the Costume creator is a close second.
I think "Storylines" actually covers most of the other areas - badges (flesh out backstory, especially Exploration & History), NPC groups (lots of creativity there, as well as comic staples [eg, "Mafia" style gangsters]). Still, the ongoing stories are what really makes me want to play through the story-arcs, hit the TFs/SFs, and generally experience all there is to experience. It's one reason I'm so excited about the ongoing plot that (hopefully) will be picking up speed in the near future. -
The biggest problem you run into with making bases "physical buildings" in the world (even just doors), is that you can eventually run out of doors. How many hundreds (if not thousands) of dinky little SGs are out there, which are basically a handful of people? I think that's exactly the reason we didn't get "realspace" SG bases. Except the Freedom Corps - they have theirs in Galaxy City.
The other downside is that accessing the base would be much more difficult. It wouldn't be going to the Base Teleporter in the zone - it'd be zone-hopping until you got to your base. Personally, I wouldn't mind the change, but others might, as it's a pretty significant loss of mobility.
I agree that non-functional items should be very cheap. I understand (and to an extent agree with) Rent, but I think Rent should only be calculated off your earnings (or maybe earnings + spent), and not include your "stored/unused" Prestige. -

Happy Birthday Arctic Syn!
And a Happy Veterans, Armistice & Remembrance Day!
[/ QUOTE ]
I have an idea! Let's just shorten all that to "Happy Day, Arctic Sun!"
Hope you have a good one, matey! -
I miss that, to an extent. Now you seem to have people doing neat things with the ATs that they've learned over the years (using Blasters' melee attacks, or utilizing the control-type powers with Scrappers and Tankers). I always despised the lame names people came up with for that, though. I mean, Blappers? That sounds ridiculous ("Aw, who blapped?"
)! No, you're a Blaster who's actually using your Secondary powers!
To an extent, I think CoV is still in the "newb" phase. The ATs are much more complex/less straightforward than the CoH ones, and they've got a steeper learning-curve. Masterminds are a great example - they're an extremely flexible AT, almost like Kheldians in their ability to shift between tanking & damage-dealing.
Finally, I think the number-one mistake people make, is trying to liken the ATs to character-classes from other games. It just doesn't work that way. Defender != healer, Blaster != mage, etc. To use those comparisons detracts from the flexibilities of CoX's ATs! -

With the WoW expansion delay & the holiday season upon us, we have alot more people that might be looking at the main site to learn about the game and find out what kind of community we have. An updated fanart site- one that REALLY makes the community to look active and expressive- might be a great thing to highlight.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's a very good point. Considering the game is based on comic books, supporting fan art seems to go hand-in-hand with CoX. I'm kind of surprised they don't utilize it more - I mean, it's like free publicity. Besides, the artists are doing the hard work - Cryptic could just help by making it known to all the other players. -
[ QUOTE ]
I love my base. It's awesome, and would be a very cool place to hang out. Unfortunately...No one hangs out there. Why? Because there's no reason to.
[/ QUOTE ]
Heh - reminds me of the cities in Asheron's Call 2. There was rarely a reason to visit them, so few people did. Of course, bases are much harder to get to - have to be teamed or in a coalition with one of the SG's members to see it.
I have to say, between the high costs for new base items, and the never-ceasing Rent, it is something of a drag. There are definite "plateaus", especially with smaller SGs that don't have a ton of people to rake in Prestige, where you're just saving for the "next big thing". The Supercomputer and Turbine Generator are a good example of this - it takes a long time to get 1.5 million Prestige, when you consider your savings are taking a hit to Rent the whole while.
When your group struggled and saved to reach the second Hidden Plot and get most of the "functional" items, and then you look at how many Plots sizes are left, you can't help but feel like your team isn't doing well. There's really not a good sense of progress in base-building.
You also have the issue of people placing crafted items, which can screw up the balance of Control & Energy. There's no way to simply deactivate items, either, so you have to delete it, which wastes the Salvage used to craft it.
I hate to say it, but bases seem like a half-finished element of the game. There's some good ideas and great potential, but it's not realized or implemented yet. -
[ QUOTE ]
You may look down your nose at someone who types "How r u?" but you're a liar if you don't admit that you understood them perfectly well to say "How are you?" which, in most circles, is known as a "successful communication". It's no harder to read (and in some cases a lot easier) than someone affecting an accent while typing, yet the latter is often applauded by the roleplayers.
[/ QUOTE ]
I definitely shun people who type like that, because I do find it hard to read. It's no good for me (or for the team) if I have to take a few seconds to figure out what the crap they're trying to say. I've got not problems with abbreviations when called for (like you're getting beat-down and you'd really like a heal), but I'm not going to waste my time with someone who isn't even trying to communicate clearly.
That said, I think emotes can be useful to give inflection to what's being said. I certainly don't have problems with smileys and the like (well, except those weird asian ones, which I can't decipher, like: ^_~ or whatever).
At the same time, I don't think CoX lends itself to the "stand around all day RPing", due to its focus on action. There's more leeway for errors in gameplay than in some other games, and someone like a Tanker can almost monologue while getting attacked. I've grown to like the light/moderate RP, more of the "RP during missions" mixed with bios & stories for your characters. If done correctly, I think it's the pinnacle of gaming, and really takes things to a new level of fun. -
