  1. I think what we need is a special window to pop up, like in the Praetorian zone events. That window would have a button in it. That button would say "Send Next Wave". If everyone on the team clicks the button, it spawns the next wave. If a team needs the time, they have it. If the team wants a real challenge, they click like mad and get all the spawns piling on top of each other. With the exception of people who don't want any more new windows popping up on their screen, this has the possibility to please everyone.

Animal pack, I think they're done with that one. They might have another one on the backburner.

Dual Pistols, I believe they want all future options to be more than single-shot. Correct me if I'm wrong, as I'm not an expert on the subject by any means, but the one you posted looks to be single-shot. What I want to see, and what I had hoped for in the Steampunk pack, is Pepperboxes. They're like revolvers, but big and badass.

That's all I'm saying is make sure it is something that will mean something to you for a very very long time!
And for me, they might mean as much to me later in life. I haven't played Vampire: The Masquerade in almost a decade (not since White Wolf totally screwed the pooch on the storyline behind their games). I still love my Tzimisce Clan Symbol tattoo because it represents the fun that I had with a few close friends. I've been trying to put money aside for my Mark of Storm tattoo since Eberron came out pretty much, and I haven't even played D&D at all in about 2 years. I realize that one decade isn't the same as five, but V:tM was never really that popular and the current vampire trend is a complete load of hogwash; and yet I have no regrets about the coiled dragon resting on my left shoulder.

Granted, the Tzimisce clan symbol and the Mark of Storm aren't immediately recognizable as gaming icons except by those who have played either game. The CoH Archetype symbols are much more iconic and recognizable. May not be the best idea for everyone. I think my only issue with my quick photoshop is the sizing and layout, scaled down and arranged differently and I think I'd be happy to have the tattoo for the rest of my life. I know that once the CoX servers are brought offline some time in the (hopefully distant) future, I will look back on my time played fondly. Having a reminder of all the good times I've had on my skin permanently wouldn't really bother me at all.

    Tattoo ideas?

Well, I already have the Tzimisce clan symbol tattooed on my left shoulder and when I can afford to spend the money, I'll be getting the lesser Mark of Storm (from the D&D Eberron Campaign Setting) on my chest... As for a CoH tat... I can't really think of a place and design that would work well. I think a Scrapper icon would be neat, but can't think of where to go with it. Then again, I'm a total altaholic, so getting one AT icon just wouldn't seem right. Perhaps all 14 AT icons on my upper arms, the 7 Heroic ATs down my right arm and the 7 Villainous ATs down my left. Doing a quick photoshop job to see what I think now...

    Edit: 5 minute mock-up:

Could work, sizing would have to be played around with, but it could work.
  5. Just wanted to pop in and say thanks to those who were able to make it out to the event. I was catching up on sleep thanks to a busy week and missed it. Thanks again, all.

The stripes in the pic you quoted are actually limited to the Steampunk pack, and that's all the ladies get. They don't get the pants that share geometry with the Resistance tucked in pants. And those stripes are only usable on Tights, hopefully they'll expand that and make them usable for at least Tucked In pants...

    Incarnet Farming

Given the title of this thread, I cannot help but think of something along these lines: http://image.made-in-china.com/2f0j0...-YH-2145N-.jpg

But back on the actual topic that doesn't involve an in-car net... I haven't touched any of the new trials at all yet. I may be screwing myself over in the end, but I'd rather wait until there's a wide variety so that I don't feel like I'm doing the same thing over and over again. It was bad enough grinding tips. Granted, I'd have the added benefit of having many other people to keep me entertained, but I'd rather not risk getting burned out by doing the same content over and over again.

I am saddened to hear that your SG is apparently defunct. It sounds like it would have been most enjoyable to be a part of.
  11. I'd back a Patriot pack before an anime pack. Anime is an art style, not a unified theme. There's anime about super science, there's anime about magical cat girls, there's anime about giant robots, there's anime about everything that has been included in all of the other packs so far. CoX's art style is not anime (or I likely wouldn't be playing as I don't particularly care for anime art). And I'm not saying no to anime because I don't like that style. I just feel that a costume pack shouldn't change the art style of the game. I wouldn't want a cel-shaded pack, or an impressionist pack, or any other type of art style pack.

Back to the American Patriot pack. I doubt that it would be in Paragon Studios' best interest to produce such a pack. The game is global and they would only be tapping part of their playerbase with an American Patriot pack. I do really want to see a proper tri-corner hat in game though. But yeah... I think a "generic" Patriot Pack could work, although it might not really have enough in it. We've already got most of the iconic images used on many countries' flags available to us as chest details, but perhaps the pack could expand on that, adding in some specific ones that aren't there yet and adding options in the form of patterns for tights and such. A flag-cape for each country of the world would be nice, as well as a flag waving emote for each flag. Not sure what kind of temp power would fit with it though. Only idea coming to me is something called National Pride, but no idea what to have it do.

Personally, I think a good idea for future booster packs could be styles of the decades. Flapper dresses from the 20's. Zoot suits from the 40's. Poodle skirts and greaser gear from the 50's. Tie dye and sandals and hippy gear from the 60's. Leisure suits and crazy disco outfits from the 70's. Big hair and acid-washed jeans from the 80's. Maybe avoid the 90's since 90's fashion sucked. Could easier muster up enough costume pieces to form a pack from each decade of the 20th century. Or maybe just make it a 20th Century Retro pack and include a smattering from each decade in it.

Back on topic though... Nevermind, I already feel like a broken record. I've voiced my opinion in multiple other threads at this point and one man's opinion isn't going to make a difference when they're already done with the pack.

I wanted baggy striped pants on a female and couldn't do it. And I wish they had learned their lesson from the Magic Pack's Baron coat. And...

I did play around with things, and found a look that might work for the character in question. Wish we could use dress shirt 2 for a chest option on something other than Jackets, or got some other good-looking option for chest covering that went better with the Steampunk pieces though. Had to settle for Dress Shirt with the Victorian collar to hide the top of the tie. No way I'm ever giving her the super soakers though. She'll keep the flintlocks until they offer some proper pepperboxes.

Anyway, here's what I came up with for her:

And not much could really be done to my other Steampunk character that I forgot I had, but I tried:
  15. *sigh* I'm really rather disappointed that the only guns we get look like Nerf or Super Soaker guns with a paint-job. I was looking forward to some period appropriate revolvers or pepperboxes. I also feel that there's far too much skin showing with many of the female pieces. I realize that Steampunk isn't 100% true to Victorian fashion, but it's much closer than these pieces.

Oh well. Still gonna get it. Probably won't actually use any of it on my one character that is actually from the Victorian era though. Logging onto Test now to play with it now though, so we'll see if things change once I play around a bit.

    Back on CoH topic though.

I'm not an RPer in-game. Well, that's a bit of a lie. When I play a character, I take on some of their traits. Depending on what character I'm on, I'll act slightly different. Not quite as far as getting completely in-character though.

Out of game though, I've got extensive back-stories and full biographies for all of my regularly played characters. Some of them aren't actually even written down, but I could tell you their life story if you asked. All my characters have lives that I play out in my head to get a better feel for them. Like King, I don't plan out who my characters will be. Typically, I get the urge to play a certain powerset combination, make an interesting costume, come up with a good name, and then once they're through the tutorial, I "sit down" with them and talk. Sometimes I surprise myself with the answers and they end up being a totally different character than I thought they were going to be.(When I created my Fire/Fire Blaster, I envisioned her being some army brat kid who discovered some magic artifact or something... And then she turned out to be the daughter of my Fire/Kin Controller from another dimension)

I think I might enjoy RPing in-game, but in table-top gaming I never was one to stay in character for long stints at a time and I never made it a point to differentiate because it'd be obvious IRL that I had shifted characters. I find it incredibly annoying to note when I'm talking OOC in-game and rather than annoy myself by doing so, I'd rather just not annoy other people by mixing IC and OOC.

This thread was an enjoyable read; thanks for starting it, OP.

  20. I used to have a few lowbies scattered about the servers that fit the bill for this thread, but now I'm down to just 2 (or 1 depending on how you look at it). Praetorian and Primal version of the same character.

Backstory behind the characters is that Nika Molotok was a Russian Olympic gymnast during WWII. Later, it was discovered that she was a mutant and stripped of her medals and barred from competition. Then the agency that would become the KGB(I forget right now what it was) ran an ad in the paper looking for "able-bodied young men and women to help bring glory to the Motherland". Nika jumped at the chance, and fell into their clutches. They augmented her skills in a super soldier program and then cryogenically froze her until they would need her services...

    Miss Molotok (Hero SS/SR Brute):

In Praetoria, the facility that housed Nika Molotok was abandoned during the Hamidon Wars. Recently, Devouring Earth ransacked the derelict lab and accidentally released Nika from her slumber. In a rage she destroyed them all and then passed out. She woke up in Cole's city.

    Mistress Molotok (Villain SS/EA Brute):

On Primal Earth, the KGB brought Nika out of stasis during the Cold War. She followed orders and quickly rose to power, leading her own squadron of fellow supers. After the fall of the Soviet Union she became a mercenary, eventually ending up in the Zig.

Originally I came up with Miss, but when I ran her through the newish arc with the doubles in it I started to wonder what her Primal counterpart was like. And Mistress was born.

And sorry about some of the pictures being darker, should have waited for a better time to take the shots.
  21. I'll be honest, I stopped reading less than halfway through the thread. But every time this discussion comes up, I wonder if I'm playing a different set or something. I have a level 50 DP/Elec blaster who barely touched Elec at all because I was quite pleased with what DP had to offer. I enjoy the set, I have no problem killing things, I love the crashless nuke that, for me, kills almost everything and is usable just about every other group. Granted, she has a pretty boss IO build with perma-hasten and decent defense (20ish% to all positions so I can softcap with 2 purps). Leveling her up, I enjoyed playing her more than I ever enjoyed my Fire/Fire Blaster who was my first 50. I didn't start IOing my DP out until after she was 40+, and I enjoyed her before then; so I don't think it is actually the IOs that are making her enjoyable for me. Maybe I'm just really lucky with HoB as I hear that for others it seems to not kill enough mobs in a group; maybe I'm just really lucky overall with her. I don't know, I just always feel like I must be playing a different set than everyone else somehow.

Looks like I need to get my portfolio in order and get an application sent in. Hopefully they're not too strict about the Minimum of 2 shipped titles required for the character artist position though.

Unless Paragon found a way to do it differently than every other developer out there, the glow is going to be determined by what is known as an emissive or self illumination map (two names for the same thing). There's several different maps used for most materials in games; Diffuse (base color map and detailing), Specular(tells the game engine how lighting should affect the surface), Normal/Bump(Old school bump maps were greyscale, black is depressed areas, white is raised areas, shades of grey in between for gradiation between the two; Normal maps are the blueish based maps with pinks and purples and greens and yellows, very fun maps to work with), Emissive/Self Illumination(glow, as stated), Opacity (black and white or greyscale maps that tell the engine what parts are see-through/partially see-through), and there's a few more specialty maps (like Reflection/Cube maps for baked in reflections and some others). Greyscale or black and white maps don't need to be their own separate image file though since the alpha channel of another map is capable of holding that information. I think that's how they do Specular maps here; as the alpha channel of the Diffuse map.

Not knowing exactly how things are done at Paragon, I assume that the emissive maps used here are black and white or greyscale maps, possibly included in one of the other maps as its alpha channel, where white is the glowing bits. Then we pick the color and the engine "multiplies" that color by the emissive map and we get the glow on the final piece. In material work, when you "multiply" a color by white you get the color; by black you get black. White is 1, black is 0. (edit: this multiplication deal is why, like Zombie Man said, if you choose a dark color for the glow, it won't appear to glow since it will be closer to black)My guess is that if it appears that there is no map for the emissive, it is using the alpha channel from one of the other maps.

All that technical stuff out of the way, I'd get behind this suggestion. Glowing hair, skin, tights, and patterns would all be very cool.

You can't just allow female characters to use the current models. They'd have to adjust the geometry and ensure that it didn't cause any issues with the unwrap (the texture coordinates), and then weight it to work with the female skeleton. It's not a terrible amount of work, but probably more than they want to devote to it.
