    Hmmm...after reading this section.
    [ QUOTE ]
Serafina cursed him to wield the power of a hero in the name of evil and be hunted for all his days.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have to ask....has anyone had the chance to smack Serafina on the back of the head for blatant stupidity?!?

"What!? you have stolen the weapon of a hero!...I curse you to do naughty things with it for all eternity...that'll show ya...nope no easy cursed to do only good or not get any or any of a thousand better ideas which would at least minimize harm to bystanders...nope..your gonna go do harm to bystanders!..that'll teach someone to steal stuff...yeah."

On the other hand...if I steal something from her as a villian...does this mean she'll make me a Lt. in Arachnos....ahhh the twisted path to power.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think Serafina must be relater to Azuria. Either that, or magic makes people dumb in CoHworld.
  2. My guess is that it's a bug that made it into the code when they tried to fix the bug that was preventing people from entering AE mishes. I don't know if that bug has actually been squashed or not, but I'm guessing that this is related.
  3. I'm a hero. My namesake character isn't my signature character, but they're both heroes. Namesake is Johnstone, a Stone/SS Tanker. And then my signature character is Annon, a BS/WP Scrapper. And neither of them have ever been drawn... And oddly, Annon has technically been my signature character ever since he was created for a DnD campaign that I ran, but I didn't make him on my home server until two and a half years after I started playing CoH.

Of course, like others, I have tons of alts too; so I don't know if there actually is one character that I'm most recognized on. Heh, don't know if I even have any characters that others do recognize as I'm not exactly talkative or popular.
  4. Well, "Damn" isn't in the censor's list. "God damn" is. As is "God damned" and "[censored]"(god damn without the space) as well. But "damn" by itself is not present in the list. I believe that MA uses a stricter list than the regular chat filter though, so it may have been added. The whole thing sucks and needs to be revisited imo. If you want to see how ridiculous some of the words on the list are, just google "coh censored word list" and it should be the first link (it's actually about two years old by now, but I don't think anything has changed for the regular chat filter). And, as if it really needs to be said, there be naughty words on the list so don't go lookin' if that kind of [censored] offends you.
  5. Another one that pops up is the "You must complete you current task first"

Spelling bee champ here. I can spell all kinds of silly arcane exotic words - not really a useful skill, but fun at parties (not).

Oh, and I'm going a tasteful muted heathery tweed myself.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Don't you mean archaic?

And I think someone else said it, but I'll be going plaid.

    [/ QUOTE ]

In this case i would say arcane is more accurate than archaic.

    [/ QUOTE ]

*shrug* I could actually see either working fine with the right explanation. To me, arcane implies that they're secret, hidden words that nobody knows. Archaic sounds better to me, seeing as it implies words that have fallen out of general use. Then again, neither of us know Ad's intent for sure so it's rather pointless to discuss it further.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
it seems making a pattern is a lot simpler than making a unique texture, which is why we tend to see so many more patterns than unique textures. Of course, I'm also guessing, so I could easily be wrong.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Generally speaking, yeah, a mask/pattern is a lot easier to make than a full on texture. Masks are just black and white images to tell the game's engine where to apply color. Textures require a lot more work.

    [ QUOTE ]
I'm pretty sure that it already sort of is greyscale, just some sections of it, most notably the darker sections, don't mask as well with other colours. I'm not sure it's specifically grey, but it likely works off the same principle. It's probably some shade of brown or cream, though. Changing the base texture would undoubtedly throw off existing shading, and these things tend to be unreasonably poorly received.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If it was greyscale, then there would be no skintone to show through when we select white; it would instead work to darken whatever color is applied which would work as shading.

The likely consequence of this is that it would make the skin colors show up closer to what they look like in the swatches. It would of course require every piece with skintone to be desaturized to make everything the same though. I really want to test it >.< I'll resist the temptation though.

But if someone would like to give me a list of emotes that everyone can use but aren't in the quickchat menu right now...I'll add them in.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, I included emotes that are in the quickchat but don't have separate entries without saying something (since I think we should be able to raise our hand without saying something). I think I removed all the ones that show up alone in the quickchat. I also included ones that I'm pretty sure are just alternate versions and not necessary for the quickchat. Someone want to double check for me?

I still feel bad about the one time I snapped at Terrorizer(?) I believe when I had an extremely bad day with something related to what was said

    [/ QUOTE ]

Bah, don't worry about that, Terrorizer doesn't matter. He likes getting yelled at even. >.>

And Noire, hate to see you go, but I'll still be in touch.
  11. Johnstone

    Damn you, i15...

    [ QUOTE ]
I understand the two languages are actually pretty closely related.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Sort of.

English is a Germanic language. Which means that it shares roots with modern day German. However, English has stolen, adopted, kidnapped, and borrowed so many words from other languages that it is now rather far away from German. Still, like you said, there are words that sounds close enough that you can see the relation.
  12. I started wondering... What would happen if they just made the nipple-free torso texture greyscale? We already apply skin color to it within the costume creator. Does it need to have a base skin tone for us to apply a skin tone to?

If this would work, I still want a bump map for all the masks/patterns so they don't look like paint though. >.<
  13. [ QUOTE ]
what happened to Professor John-Smythe who invented the Vambrace suit?

    [/ QUOTE ]

He settled down after the duo broke up and had a son.

Well, that's my guess. Probably not too far off either.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
Here's where the problem with that is this: Male Tanker, Female Metal and so on are full-fledged, separate textures that actually come with their own unique torso model, even though they look a LOT like the original torso. Things like Angelic or Savage, though, don't come with their own model or texture, they use the "base" texture for a naked, nipple-less torso or a naked, crotchless upper legs assembly, with a pattern applied over it. This pattern is applied over the "naked base" in just the same way it's applied over something like Armour Plate or Leather Straps.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ok, so it actually looks like it wouldn't be a bump map that would solve it... Although, the graphical part of it should be just as easy. They'd need to take the nipple-free torso and duplicate it for each top with skin option and overlay the top with skin mask as a new layer over the torso texture and then remove the skin color from the areas on the torso texture covered by the black on the mask. Then delete the layer the top with skin mask is on. It'd require doing this same thing for each Tops with Skin option, but shouldn't really take that long for anyone with any skill with Photoshop. Then it's a matter of changing the code to reference the new torso texture for each piece. Not exactly trivial, but shouldn't take much work.

I'd still like to see a bump map added to all of them in addition though, so that it doesn't look painted on so much.
  15. A simple bump map would do nothing but make the colors work right. The only people it would anger are the people using white to make naked-looking toons.
  16. <qr>

I like the steampunk look of it too, but to me, the white is too white. I know that you want to present yourself as best you can, but given the theme I think a little bit of grunge would finish it off. If I were you, I'd darken up the colors a bit, maybe add an oil smudge or something on the white and put a few dings in the metal. It's all kinda uniform right now and doesn't have any little details that make you go "ooh". The meters going near the bottom almost do it, but not quite enough imo.

Also, I didn't notice it the first time I looked... But I really like your HG logo. It blends in with the wood though, I'd try to make it pop a bit more.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
I'd like to see them fix it, but I'm sort of curious what it would entail.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I can't see it taking much work at all. All that should need to be done is create a bump map for each pattern/mask. The Tanker chest option for Males has a bump map (No, I haven't pigg-dived, it's obvious if you've ever done any 3D modeling at all), and you can make it white with no problem. But the Tanker option for Females' Tops with Skin still has no bump map, so we're left with the wet t-shirt look, minus nipples.

There are some Tops with Skin options that have obvious bump maps (Metal, Leather, and the various Plus options come to mind), would it really be that hard to add a simple bump map to the rest of the Tops with Skin options and the Full Masks/Face options? I could probably do it for them if they send me the patterns/masks, then it's just a matter of changing the code to enable the bump map (which I'm guessing is a variable in each piece's code).
  18. <qr>

How about you guys extend it by a day so that it includes my birthday on the 3rd? lol

the only ones who do this are Doctor Aeon and Professor Echo

A version of Anti-Matter does it as well. Haven't tested him out in AE though.

Mine is the power of Satin.

    Mmmm, satin.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I've met quite a few satin worshipers online. I always ask them if they have satin sheets and such. They usually respond with something like "What? No, that'd be corny, like those kid's sheets with cartoons on them. my sheets are black." or "They make Satin sheets? Where can I get some?".

It's better than WoW. $15 to change the gender, name, and looks of one toon, one time. Can't alternate, can't go back without paying again.

Personally, I've entirely given up on in-game e-mail. I just let it pile up. I'm currently playing a little game with it. Seeing how many I can accumulate.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I once got email-bombed by someone back before the RMTs. Don't let your email fill up too much or you'll lag like hell trying to do anything. I forget the exact number of emails I ended up with after he bombed me, it was a lot though, think it may have been a couple thousand even but it was quite some time ago so I don't remember. Once I got it under 500 the lag got better. Getting it down to that 500 was a pain in the butt though, since every time I deleted an email, it reloaded the whole inbox and caused more lag. So yeah, just a word of warning to not collect too much.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Wait, so the Email In-box cap is 500?
I've been wondering that for quite a while.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No. Read the parts in bold again. It was well over 500 emails that I was sent, and I was able to see how many too; I just can't remember what the number was at this point since it was a while ago and it was ridiculous. If you've been wondering about what the cap is, you can test it yourself. Make a new toon, sign on to another and email that new toon using /email <name> <subject> <body> (I think that's the syntax for it, not sure though since I never made use of it). Make a bind and go to town, then keep checking the target toon to see if you can get to the cap.

I think they nerfed the xp on the vamps from the capsules, but they still count toward the badge.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The Vamps that pop out do indeed give no rewards The capsules give 10x what a standard Vamp minion gives though. Not really pertinent information for this thread since it's just about getting vamps, not xp, but I figured it should be mentioned for the sake of completeness.

    [/ QUOTE ]

They may not give XP rewards, but they do give drops at least.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. By rewards, I meant Experience, Influence, and Prestige; nothing else.

The nice thing about that, of course, is if you /gignore (or /spammer) them, *every email from their global* goes away at once.

I've had rarely-played characters go from "You have 31 emails" to "You have 18" with one click of the button.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, it was actually done by someone in one of my global channels who I usually enjoyed talking to, so I didn't want to use /gignore. I know, I probably should have after that, but it wasn't that big a deal since I kinda brought it on myself since I was teasing him in the channel and when he told me to come say it to his face, I did lol.
