Quote:I wasn't looking for your specific approval, Bill, just tossing out an idea, and yes expecting feed-back and objections. I didn't have the energy to get into specifics last night when I posted it. Perhaps I should have waited til I had the clarity to compose a master's thesis.Suggestion: If you just want "oh yay that's wonderful" and nobody to bring up the actual problems with it, use a blog. If you want to ignore the actual problems with it - because like it or not, the costume creator is a big draw for this game, for instance - don't expect to be taken seriously.
Oh, and there's not universal agreement on VEATs. I find them boring with an utter crap storyline. That's not an "error."
The Costume creator is not something I ignore - It's one of the reasons I've stuck with the game since issue 7. My love for its versatility is second to no-one's, however, this game also grants one another option: The choice to create many, many toons. You are free to make a VEAT or not, and with all the other choices you have, you can go hog-wild with the Costume Creator.
I have made so many toons, and so many costumes, I am starting to run out of ideas. The options that have been added the last couple of years have been rather disappointing, given the poor understanding of anatomy and proportion displayed. The stuff that just came out with GR is just stellar, and I am spending hours thinking of new ways to use it. I am a costume enthusiast, and I am not exaggerating when I tell you that I am quite good at it.
In the Costume Creator, you will have noticed that certain power sets allow little to no significant customization. Is this a deal-breaker? Are some people simply not mature enough to face the possibility that they cannot make a Canary Yellow Gun Drone with Deep Purple barrels? I somehow doubt it, although I was rather disappointed, personally.
The VEATs primary costume is not something that can be customized with the granularity of a normal costume slot, and those of us who choose to make a VEAT have to reconcile ourselves with it. Further, for some reason, we are not able to make a second costume slot with the standard VEAT features. It's too bad, but some of us manage to labor on despite. The toons seem to be worth it, and are happily embraced by any team that recognizes what a VEAT can bring to the table. Sorry to hear you're missing out, Bub. -
I'd like to see all the different Tarantula types become available as VEATS, although not necessarily the Full-sized Toxic variety. I'm sure there will be objections by the instinctive nay-sayers, such as travel powers, costume customization and other incompatibilities, but I really think it's doable.
A lot of people were initially put off by the VEATs, I being one of them, but have long since learned the error of our ways. Certainly, no one now objects to an Archetype that is so extraordinarily versatile and fun to play. I will of course expect a lot of people to complain that they do not want to be weird, freaky spider-cyborgs; That's fine, no one expects you to be. -
Thugs mastermind lvl 47
They were slow to get to me in Grandville, so I fired off Assemble the Team, and they appeared in a straight line. Then they stood there and wouldn't do anything, no matter what I tried. They vocalize responses when I give commands, but will not act on them. I have tried dismissing - they say "I'm outta here!" and then stay there. I have tried zoning - they appear at the ferry ramp, and just stand there. I have tried logging, and even restarting entirely - they appear as soon as I do, fully buffed, standing in the same straight line, and still will not respond.
What to do? -
Dunno about you guys, but I'm gonna re-install Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight, and see if I can't get it running in Win 7 64-bit. That seems like a less frustrating pursuit than fruitlessly attempting to log on to Virtue for another 45 minutes.

It looks dead sexy on a long-legged female toon in high heels...
-
not one attempt that I have participated in, no matter the zone or the server or the time of day has been successful in the last nine months. It is too hard to get a team of strangers motivated and organized. Even with a full team of motivated and skillful veterans it takes too much time to get to the zone and spread out.
There needs to be more time on the clock, or a different mechanism to trigger the process. Stop having it in zones that are empty, too. No one wants to do it in Creys or IP or Dark Astoria.
No one even makes an attempt in Redside - the population is too light, and no one cares.
Stop teasing us or fix this crap. -
1)another vote for /E Facepalm here. It needs the correct follow-through stance for that subtle expression of helpless disgust though: left hand on hip, head down in hand, head oscillating from side to side at a slow speed.
2) Hover emotes:
A)like the bald men from the movie 'Dark City' (vertical, arms straight down at sides). B)like the default hover, but with elbows in, and fists clenched. One of the flypose emotes as a hover
C)a ghastly, curled up, dead-thing. Fly like a freshly excavated Chilean mummy.
3)Contrapposto idle stances, among other things, to convey 'attitude' instead of just the Heroic Perfect Posture. I don't know whose idea it was to make everyone look like they have a stick up their rear, but it was a dumb one. Villains especially should be allowed to look cowardly, craven, shifty, off-balance, intoxicated and/or lazy.
4) another vote for more choreographed power animations - Avatar: The Last Airbender really opened my eyes to the way a toon's motions could act-out the elemental character of their power. Sticking out an arm and clenching your buttocks really hard frankly has no sense of style. -
the last five times I was involved in Supernatural Activity event, they failed. People can't be bothered for the most part, and when they do, it takes too long for people to get organized and spread out to all the banners, or it takes too long to take more than one of them down. Talos in Virtue on a Saturday night aught to be a good time and place, so all I can conclude is that it's apathy. It's a shame, because I'd been hoping for more zone events and interesting things to happen.

It's starting to really grate on my enjoyment of the game. I don't like thinking I've lost an item when I haven't, and I REALLY don't like purchasing something again not knowing that I've already got it.
I don't mind the new interface so much now that I've gotten a chance to get used to it, but I wonder if the new conveniences built in to it are worth the unreliability it is showing. -
My Rad/Rad 50 spends a lot of time gathering dust these days, despite being my first 50. It feels far less fun than I am looking for - too much time toggling high end enemies so that they won't instantly kill me, only to get mezzed and having my toggles thrown off like they were nothing. Too many toggles (including the patron armor toggle and Choking Cloud).
I hate soloing my rad/rad corr.
Rad/ as a primary attack set is a huge disappointment to me. Radiation Blast sounds awesome and deadly doesn't it? Instead, it's Weak, Slow and Unexciting. The secondary effect of Rad attacks doesn't seem to have any discernible effect, because weakening Defense only makes your hits more certain to hit. If you have enough accuracy on your attacks in the first place, you don't need -def. Frankly, it's a crap powerset, and it needs to be re-examined
/Rad the secondary is of course most useful and a great debuffing set to have on a team, although a well-constructed team won't really need your non-healing help until you run into the AV or Hero or GM at the end.
I've had this toon since i7, so maybe I am jaded towards it, and maybe I just need to invest in a ton of expensive IO sets, but as a vanilla SO enhancement slotted toon, it's been a disappointment for a long time. My 50 Earth/Storm 'troller, now that is epic fun and chaos right there. -
You know, a little more warning would be nice. I've been playing since i7 and I have yet to be able to participate in even one of these events. I am told 'it was on the forums so shut up'. Well it wasn't bloody well on the forums for very long, and certainly not long enough to make arraignments to be logged in.
Shafted, excluded, left out and resentful. -
When you hover over the power in 'Enhancements' --->'Manage', the tooltip window says that 'allowed enhancement set categories' includes only one IO set - Slow Movement. Yet when you slot a Slow IO in the power, you can see in the Detailed Information window that Slow Movement is not effected in any way.
Working as intended, thusly an evil plot to part /rads with their hard earned Infamy and Slots for no appreciable return, or a known fowl-up on the part of the Devs, and we can take it for granted they are working hard to repair this outrage as quickly as possible? -
What are you most dissatisfied with in your chosen AT/Powerset?
I nominate /Devices 'Timebomb' for most misleading, least useful, bitterest disappointment.
I've just taken it recently, and found for the most part that I can't find a useful niche for it. Sure, it's a tremendous explosion with larger radius and more powerful blast than 'Trip Mine', but the problem is that you can't set it with the assurance that it will not explode too soon or too late. You can't use it on teams because a full team will take down adversaries far too quickly for you to set a bomb, or if you try to set it at a 'herding-to-here' spot, It's just as likely to detonate before they all get there.
Fix this power by making the Bomb remotely detonatable, and all will be forgiven. -
Thx Rod - this was exactly what I was looking for. Muy Squishee.
I had to set the mob amount to 8 to get 'bosses'.
Unfortunately it didn't work out too well. Just too squishy to take on the mobs that the Overseers appeared in, and I died almost instantly. -
I did that, and reset the mission and went back in - no Overseers anywhere. I then increased the mob size to +4 while reducing the diff to -1. I got larger spawns with a couple of lieutenants per spawn, but again no bosses. I'm going to increase the spawn size to +8 just to see if that's what it takes.
-
I have a mission from Scirocco in the Shadow Shards, and I want to spawn Overseers for the badge, but I can't figure out how to get them to show up.
Increase spawn size to a certain amount, or increase difficulty, or both? Since this is a Corr, I don't have the toughness to duke it out with high level mobs toe-to-toe -
Thanks y'all. Waiting i can do - I have satellite.
-
Does this have something to do with the Store being unavailable? I had 15 occupied slot and deleted two toons, but it still won't let me make one.
-
my mother never hugged me enough as a child, and so now when I try to make friends with people I just end up killing everyone...

you'll notice my 'grass' is a lot higher than yours - that's the lag of Satellite VS. real broadband. I have no choice in the matter, since no one has seen fit to become a dsl provider in this part of rural East Texas. I'd give anything to get rid of this fragile, unreliable, maddening excuse for an internet connection and replace it with real service, but it's better than nothing at all, and despite the lag it usually works for several hours at a time before I have to shut off the hardware and let it cool down. -
maybe I could still use my toons if it weren't for the fact that I am on Hughes Satellite, but adding my ~1k ping onto the red spike comb on Netgraph means that I am forced to abandon my favorite toons and server. Virtue has long stretches of garbage bandwidth as well, but not on a consistent basis, so I stupidly keep playing this miserable game. I'm giving NCSoft one more month, and if I can't get a solid foot of Netgraph without red spikes on Freedom, I am taking my measly $15/Mo and flipping them the bird.
-
Don't bother - it's on their end, and CoX support knows it. They acknowledged as much in a email posted on the technical questions board. All the East Coast servers are spitting out red spikes in Netgraph for some players, and the tech guys are 'working on it'. I just hope they figure it out soon, cuz Freedom is my favorite server, and right now it's unplayable for me.
-
Argh... netgraph, not netstat. I guess that's why I could never find any referrences to it with a search. Thank goodness SOMEone around here understand the language of the terminally befuddled...
Anyway, Freedom is still giving me constant single reds on netgraph in every zone. Is Freedom in a different physical location than Virtue (which gives me little relative trouble)? -
I'm on satellite, not of my choice - I get intermittent lag when no one else does, on any server. sometimes it's solid green blocks, sometimes its yellow, and sometimes its red, but only on Freedom is it these single red lines constantly with only brief clear patches.
Just now my client crashed to desktop during the rikti raid in Cap au Diable. Single red lines interrupted by large solid blocks of red. -
How does one understand what they are seeing when they turn netstat on? I understand that solid green is bad, red is bad and yellow is bad, and that what you want to see is a constant variance of green (resembling grass) with a low ping if possible. But what is the rest of that stuff and how do you know what it means?
See, ever since the last issue, Freedom has been unplayable for me, and netstat has been remarkably consistent - green grass with single red lines every centimeter or so.
