Freedom, Redside - Still unplayable since I15

maybe I could still use my toons if it weren't for the fact that I am on Hughes Satellite, but adding my ~1k ping onto the red spike comb on Netgraph means that I am forced to abandon my favorite toons and server. Virtue has long stretches of garbage bandwidth as well, but not on a consistent basis, so I stupidly keep playing this miserable game. I'm giving NCSoft one more month, and if I can't get a solid foot of Netgraph without red spikes on Freedom, I am taking my measly $15/Mo and flipping them the bird.

I am on Freedom, currently nearing the end of a successful MoLRSF.

I've been logged in for almost 3 hours now without any issues.
(Ok, so the whole team did have a momentary hiccup in first mission, but that was it.)
(And no, the SF isn't taking that long, I was just online before we started. lol)

Here is my current netgraph:

I'd be looking at your network provider instead.

Hey! Is Freedom fixed? That netgraph looks like it did before all this started! (logging on now)

I don't know if it was broken. That's the way it usually looks for me, and the way it looked all last night when you made your post. I posted only a half an hour after you did, and was on for more than 3 hours at the time.

If you were having an issue at the time you posted, I'm afraid it wasn't everybody having the problem, and I don't know of anybody but you that did.

During that time period, I was in Monster Island (it's where I logged off), Mercy Island (to help somebody transfer some money), Port Oakes (to pay my base rent), Cap (to go to market), and Nerva and GV (for the SF). Which zone were you having trouble in? Was anybody else complaining about it in /broadcast?

How is it working for you now?

you'll notice my 'grass' is a lot higher than yours - that's the lag of Satellite VS. real broadband. I have no choice in the matter, since no one has seen fit to become a dsl provider in this part of rural East Texas. I'd give anything to get rid of this fragile, unreliable, maddening excuse for an internet connection and replace it with real service, but it's better than nothing at all, and despite the lag it usually works for several hours at a time before I have to shut off the hardware and let it cool down.

Bleh...

As usual...I just went to Virtue (west coast) where it is like night and day (usually even better than this actually):

For fun I tried Champion (west coast):

Then I figured I would check out another east coast server...Victory this time:

Back to the west coast on Protector:

See the pattern? It's an east coast server thing.

And yet I'm seeing no difference between any server... even this morning.

Like I said, I'd look at the service provider and/or your location. Jiblets said they have issues with Satellite. I don't know what provider you have, but you both seem to be from Texas. There might be something to that.

Just because your connection works fine on one server, and not another, doesn't mean the server is broken. It can be any number of access points en route to the server. The providers in your area apparently take some bumpy back roads to the East Coast. I'm not sure what NCSoft could do to help you on that one.

I'm from Boston area on Cable internet and perform equally on both the east and west coast servers. I can even Dual-log with Freedom (East) and Test Server (West?), and still not have an issue with either instance. I'm sorry, but I can't duplicate your results.

Count your blessings.

This is a real problem. Check out this thread: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=186847

And this from Tech Support:

You're right. When this ticket was created, we hadn't yet found the commonality at the root of this particular latency issue. The problem here seems to be related to a routing issue on the return path from our east coast datacenter. As such, only the east coast servers are affected by this.

Our Network Engineering team has been investigating this in an effort to get it resolved as quickly as possible. By this point, we've gathered enough information from you to include in a compiled report (of other affected customers) as part of their investigation. We currently have no update on this yet but we're working to get this cleared up so that our customers can continue to play on the east coast servers without this problem.

As a further update on this issue, we've confirmed that this is a routing problem with one of our peer ISPs (PCCW). Our Network Engineering Team is in contact with them and is working to clear up the issue as quickly as possible. As far as technical support is concerned, we've done as much as we can and this is now incumbent upon PCCW to resolve.

In the meantime, we'll just need to be patient until this problematic ISP can resolve its connectivity issues.

If you have any questions or concerns please let us know

They know about it and it's a real serious issue to a lot of players.

And yet they admit there is nothing they can do but contact the companies involved in hopes that they will fix something on their end.

It's not something that NCSoft can fix. The OP blaming them and "flipping them the bird" would be completely inappropriate in this case. I do sympathize, and it's unfortunate to have to close down an account that you might otherwise enjoy if conditions were different, but it's not always the direct fault of the service you are subscribing to. It's frustrating indeed, but the anger is misguided.

Like I said, "It can be any number of access points en route to the server" and my location apparently doesn't require passing through the particular network that is failing to perform correctly.

As somebody who plays almost exclusively on Freedom, I'll certainly take your advice and "count my blessings" that I live in an area that is not experiencing this difficulty. A few other people I've teamed with and asked about this have also reported no issues at all, and they also live on the East Coast, though I cannot say specifically where, or what service they are using.

All true.

The main point is that the problem is not our computers. And it is a huge problem that effecting a lot of players. At some point it needs to be fixed or this game will suffer.
