Mine was Marauder, simply because I had the mission with him in it. I had started reading about people soloing AV's and I tried it and failed a bunch of times and gave up for a bit to take the time to come back to this forum to really learn and understand what it would take.
I kept that mission on the backburner for some time while I respec'ed my toon's build and bought new IO sets and whatnot.
After a while I started trying to solo Marauder, like I say, just because I still happened to have the mission with him in it. I failed the first ten times or so, but I kept getting close enough to think that I could do it.
Finally, I was just lucky enough to avoid getting hit by him too many times in a row and I took him down.
After a while, Marauder just had to be my first. I could have dropped that mission or beaten it on a lower setting but after getting him down to a sliver of health and still losing a bunch of times, I just wanted revenge, heh.
After that (that was with my Katana/SR) I started trying to solo AV's with my Dark/Willpower, which has been much easier. -
Wow, yeah, that does seem a bit crazy that it was only a year ago...
I can recall quite clearly thinking, "No way! No one can solo an AV!", and then watching the video of it and having my jaw drop.
I started trying to do it with my Katana/SR after I saw you do it.
I failed. Alot.
Then I actually started coming to this forum and reading and learning what it would actually take to solo an AV.
Now, I have a couple of Scrappers that can do it. And personally, even though I know alot of people think that the idea of a long solo AV fight is boring--I love it.
I love the idea that there isn't much out there that my Scrapper can't handle.
I fully understand that the point of starting this thread wasn't to have people kiss your butt, but seriously, kudos to you, sir, for the inspiration! -
I was wondering: Is having two Scrappers stand toe to toe in an Arena and just trade punches an effective way to test your Scrapper's build?
See, I know nothing about PvP. I've tried it maybe three or four times in the almost four years I've been playing. It's my understanding though that the mechanics of the game are altered in various ways while in a PvP zone or an Arena so I'm not sure if testing under those circumstances would be any good if I were focusing on PvE play mainly.
I was just thinking, now that my main Scrapper has soloed AV's and Pylons and completed the Rikti Challenge, all without temps or inspirations, what do I challenge her with next? And I thought, well, what's more dangerous than another Scrapper?
Now, in normal PvP play, one would have to factor in tactics. Some people are just better at playing the game than others and that would go double for PvP. (I'm awful at it.) But, if I could find a like minded Scrapper to just stand in front of me and attack, would that be a good way to judge a Scrapper's toughness?
I mean, of course both people would be allowed to click whatever powers they wanted. SR's could turn on thier toggles beforehand and Regen's could click thier heals and the like as the fight went on. Mainly just no running about or using cover, etc. And no temps or Inspirations, of course.
I've been curious about this for a while now. I've been wondering if for instance, my Dark/Willpower Scrapper would be able to beat ( just a random example) a similarly IO'ed out Fire/Shield Scrapper in a "They Live" toe to toe, punch trading, fight to the finish.
Would the results of something like this even mean anything in PvE play?
Has anyone tried this out yet?
Thanks! -

Quote:Been playing around with scrappers a lot recently, which is something new and refreshing for me because I've mainly played controllers in the past.
I'm at a point where I have my farming toons sorted and slotted, but I still don't have a viable AV killer. Obvious choice for this role would be a scrapper, like duh no kidding Sherlock. I've got a BS/WP sitting at 50, but it's so end heavy that I'm not sure if it could do the job easily.
I'm open to rolling another toon (yes I have altitis, and yes this will give me another excuse to feed that addiction). The criteria that I have is as follows:
1. The only primary that I don't want to use is Spines, and I say that because the pulsing sound effects of the spines really drive me crazy, and I just don't like it graphically. I like blades (kat, bs and db), but I'm still open to claws, dm, fm, and even ma (although from what I can gather ma wouldn't be the best choice).
2. I want something that can soft cap the defenses (melee, aoe, and ranged)
3. I would prefer a secondary of SD, SR, or WP. Kinda like the idea of a sword wielding SD purely from a visual standpoint, but I'm really open to any of those three secondaries.
4. In addition to the soft cap defense I would also like high regen, and enough recharge to make the build AV viable.
5. Finally, I want super jump as a travel power - which probably plays out well for wanting soft cap defense given that CJ is the pre-req for it. What I really mean here is that I don't really want to sacrifice a travel power to get all of the above.
Is this viable? If not what do I have to sacrifice and still be a viable AV killer? Anybody have any suggestions with possible builds?
I'm not too concerned with build costs, because I have toons that I can farm with -especially with i16 just around the corner, so purple builds don't worry me too much.
Appreciate any help.
1.) I also can't stand the animations for Spines, so...I hear you.
2.) Super Reflexes and then Shield Defense are going to be the easiest to Soft Cap, obviously, but...
3.) Any of those are good, but I personally prefer Willpower. It's a tough secondary and Quick Recovery+Stamina is a big help when it comes to soloing AV's.
4.) Well, as for this, all I can say is, plan to spend some Influence on IO's. Personally, I like to buy as many things as I can with Merits so I run Task Forces as much as possible. Plus, running the core TF's gets you the TF Commander Accolade, which will add to your Hit Points--a must for AV soloing.
5.) Combat Jumping should fit seamlessly into your build. It's practically endurance free and just an all around great power to have.
6.) I'd also like to add that, unless you're gonna go with Willpower or Regeneration, Endurance will be a concern. /Shield might not be the most Endurance intensive secondary out there, but you're going to have to compensate for how long some of these AV fights can take. I would highly reccomend investing in a Miracle +Recovery as well as a Numina's +Regeneration, +Recovery for starters.
Also, I wouldn't rule out some other sets. I was just mentioning /Shield based on your criteria. Dark Melee is another favorite for AV soloing what with having an attack that heals as well as decent DPS. My personal favorite AV soloing toon is my Dark Melee/Willpower Scrapper.
I'm sure some others will give you some more detailed, useful advice, but there's my two cents. -
A friend and I run Positron about twice a week for the Merits. We have it down to an hour and a half regularly. It's mainly so fast because of my friend.
My friend has a Warshade that is used to stealth any stealthable missions. I play a Dark/WP Scrapper. The trick to doing it fast is stealth+Recall Friend.
Oh, and doing the Rollister mission correctly, of course, which can be horrible and terribly time consuming.
My reccomendation for Rollister is this: Have your stealther get to the first hostage and then teleport thier team mate to them. After that, wipe out all but one of the baddies around the hostage so that the hostage isn't freed yet. The stealther can continue on while the other person hits the nearest elevator to avoid that last standing bad guy.
After that, repeat with the second hostage.
Then, have the stealther teleport team mate number two to Rollister and his cronies and take them out. At this point, I pop a large purple and head out and take out the last mob on hostage two and hostage two will follow. Keep moving. Take out the last mob on hostage one and he will follow. Lead them out.
Done.
(Oh yeah, it's important that when you leave bad guys behind on hostages to make sure that they are easy to deal with bad guys. Not bosses.)
And that's it. The Rollister mission usually takes us about seven minutes or so.
Good luck and have fun! -
I have a level 50 Fire/Fire Scrapper and I had fun with her.
I took Tough and Weave and yeah, she still feels a bit squishy compared to say my Dark/Willpower Scrapper.
Great fun on teams though as the damage output is astounding. And if you have a Controller around that can lock mobs down, it gets even better.
All in all, it's a fun set and certainly soloable but more team friendly than alot of other Scrapper sets. -

I've had people that were bad players turn Task Forces and missions into a mess before and I never felt so angry that I referred to them as trash. That's just me though.

You're confusing disdain for anger.

Okay, well, personally I have never felt such disdain for a player, no matter what they've done, that I felt the need to call them "trash."
That's just me though, just throwing my opinion out there. Maybe I've been lucky and haven't met players that were that bad yet. Nothing against anyone that does want to call other people trash, if that's your thing.

No, you just go for passive-aggressive holier-than-thou attitude.

Alright, it's clear that this has degenerated into silliness once the outright insults start to fly. I apologize for whatever I may have done to upset you so much. I try not to fall prey to internet arguments, and for that I apologize also. I wish you the best of luck in everything you do! Take care! -

Oh, okay, heh. I just took what you said a bit too seriously there. Didn't realize you were being hyperbolic. My bad.

No, you took what I clearly said in regards to in-game and applied it to everything about the person.
[/ QUOTE ]
At no point did I ever say anything about the remark not being "in-game." You did however, in-game, outside of the game or whatever, refer to another human being as "trash." I was simply astonished at the remark. It seemed, to me personally, to be awfully harsh and I asked for clarification.
I quoted what you said and then asked if I was getting the right impression. Pretty straight forward. You however, took what I said and turned it into what you wanted it to be so that you could...I don't know...get angry?
I'm sure that if you look again after maybe taking a walk or something and calming down, perhaps taking a few deep breaths, you'll see that I wasn't trying to insult you or get you riled up. -

You are saying that people that power level thier toons to 50 in the Mission Architect are "trash" and then capping it off with the word "period" so as to signify that there is nothing they could ever do to not be the less than human garbage that they are?
I mean, wow. That is some hate.

Get off your high horse, legend. The OP asks a polite question and you're all "Mr. Flame In Your Face" with MA-attitude. With so many posts to your name - you being a legend and all that -- maybe you should read Wiki yourself and discover that this kind of post is against forum rules.

Personally, I didn't see Ad_Astra's remarks as being particularly rude...a bit presumptuous maybe but overall helpful I think.
In any case, what difference does it make whether or not a person has a high post count? People with low post counts are just as capable of being rude or acting like know-it-alls. Lord knows, there are some regulars here that are so unrealistically rude that if they spoke to people in real life the way they do here, they'd be perpetually in and out of the hospital because people would be beating them up every day.
However, I've seen just as many, if not more, people talking crazy and/or being rude with low post counts. I mean, I really don't think that post count matters at all.
Also, it would have to be pointed out to me where Ad was breaking any rules with thier comments.
I'm not trying to rile you up or be insulting to you, by the way. It's just that, having been a long-time forum lurker, I've seen comments like yours start massive arguments that don't end until a moderator steps in. So, best to at least keep the "post count" comments out of it unless you're looking to start a huge argument or something. -
I think that the reply you're going to get is generally going to be, "Any Scrapper can solo AV's if you build for it and throw enough money at it."
Which I think is probably true. So yeah, I'm sure that if you got enough Recharge and Defense into your Claws/Regen build, it could solo some AV's. I've never played that combination before so I don't know how hard to build/expensive it would be, but I'm sure it could be done.
However, I think that certain combinations are going to do it more easily than others.
My Dark/Willpower has been soloing AV's pretty well so far. Anything/Super Reflexes, especially Dark/Super Reflexes are popular AV soloers. /Shield is becoming popular as well, I think. I believe that I heard that Shred Monkey has a Dark/Shield Scrapper that can solo AV's in under three minutes or something like that. Of course, that's Shred Monkey, so...well, he's exceptional, heh.
But anyway, yeah, I'm sure it could be done. And people here on the forums are usually more than happy to offer advice so you'd have a good sounding board for your AV soloing build as you build it. -
[ QUOTE ]
Prey is right on the money but don't fret! You can still do quite a bit with a scrapper, even a lethal one.
and melee is fuuuunn!
If you really want to get the most mileage out of a scrapper against AVs then you probably want an exotic damage type like Dark or Fire.
[/ QUOTE ]
I have a Dark/Willpower Scrapper that I have been soloing AV's with but I haven't tried Nightstar or Siege yet...using Dark Melee, do you think I'd have a shot at defeating them? I've mainly taken out the "easy" AV's so far (Marauder, Bobcat, Malaise, Countess Crey, Mother Mayhem, Chimera). Having taken out those AV's and using Dark Melee, what sort of chance do you think I'd have against Nightstar and Siege? -
I have a Dark/Willpower Scrapper and it is easily the toughest character I have played. I solo Archvillains with her with no temp powers or inspirations. She is IO'ed out but with not a single set of Purples.
Dark is lacking in AoE damage...but the single target attacks are quite impressive. Siphon Life in particular (which used to do pitiful damage for an anemic heal) is now my favorite attack in the set as it now does high damage while giving you about 5% of your Hit Points back each time, which is really quite a bit as it recharges fairly quickly.
In my opinion, Dark/Willpower meshes better than any other Scrapper sets. It was easily the smoothest ride to 50 I have had on any toon. I can't express enough how much I enjoy it or how good it is.
I also think that Dark Melee in general is a great set and would work nicely with any secondary. -
I know that alot of people here on the boards have Scrappers (or other AT's) that can solo AV's but I'm just curious as to how common everyone here thinks it is in general since forumites only make up a small percentage of the player base (or so I have heard).
Do you think it is something that the average Scrapper can do, providing the person playing the toon knows what they're doing?
Or is it maybe something that is accomplished mostly by the people frequenting these forums?
I'm sure there's no accurate way to judge this, but any opinions or guesses would be great.
Thanks! -
I pretty much agree with Desmodos. Although it also depends on whether or not you're planning on doing anything specific with the toon. My Dark Melee/Willpower Scrapper is built for AV killing so I focused on Defense, Recharge and Hit Points, in that order. (Hit Points would have been the first priority, but Dark's Siphon Life makes up for a few Hit Points here and there.)
I took Regeneration into consideration as well, but it was a bit down there on my list of concerns.
Oh, and in my opinion (it's just my personal opinion, please no one yell at me) I think set bonuses make a considerable difference.
Do you have any specific plans for your Scrapper? Or is this just for general play? -
I'm playing a DB/DA right now and currently have the toon at level 36 and I'm going to reccomend DB/WP over DB/DA.
I still haven't made up my mind about how I feel about my DB/DA yet...but yeah, DB/WP would be a much easier toon to play. -
I've got four level 50 Scrappers and one that I'm working on that's at 35 and my favorite in terms of levels 1-50 play is my Dark Melee/Willpower Scrapper.
I'm not sure what you conisder to be fun as far as playing Scrappers goes...but I like my Scrappers to be ridiculously, stupidly tough. I really enjoy it when an entire team I'm on falls and I'm able to continue as if nothing happened.
Also, while I'm not interested in soloing very often, I do like being able to handle pretty much anything I come across. Whether it be Arch Villains or huge groups of mobs or whatever.
Dark Melee/Willpower has so many things going for it and as far as I'm concerned, the two sets compliment each other more than any other Scrapper sets (that I've played, at least). Here are some examples:
1.) Willpower has a small amount of Defense, which makes you slightly harder to hit. It also has Rise to the Challenge, which debuffs enemie's tohit, which makes you even harder to hit. On top of that, Dark Melee's attacks cause additional -tohit, making you even harder to hit. Add some Io set bonuses to all that as well as Weave and/or Combat Jumping and you become ridiculously hard to touch.
2.) Willpower has Fast Healing, which makes your Regeneration rate higher. It also comes with (again) Rise to the Challenge, which adds to your Regeneration for each foe near you (Up to ten, I believe). In addition to that Dark Melee has Siphon Life, a high damage attack that gives you a small heal for each time that you hit. It's also pretty fast to recharge.
So, with Dark Melee/Willpower, you're hard as heck to hit and you recover the damage incredibly fast when you are hit. After that, throw in all of the resistances you get, which will mean that you don't get hurt much if something manages to land an attack as well as Soul Drain which adds to your damage for each baddie that is nearby and seriously, you have got yourself one Bad-A Scrapper.
Oh, and let's not forget Quick Recovery. I've got that as well as Stamina and I can fight indefinitley.
The only area it's weak in is AoE. However, you hit everything so hard (did I mention that Dark isn't a commonly resisted damage type?) that you can move from bad guy to bad guy very quickly.
All that and, I just enjoy playing the toon. She exemps very well for the low level TF's and such as well. -
Okay, thanks for the help everyone!
I've determined that the double routers are almost certainly the problem.
(Not sure why there are two, that's just what there was when I moved in. My sister has no idea either as it's something her ex-husband did.)
The other day I tried unplugging and then replugging in her modem and that did no good.
However, later, I tried unplugging and then replugging in her router and my ping dropped down to 200!
The only problem is that after a while the ping just goes right back up again. After an hour or so.
So, any recomendations on how I would just plug in straight to her router? Please bear with me as I am not tech savvy at all.
Thanks for all the help! -
I've been playing the game for three years and while my system is nothing special (I've experienced some lag here and there, particularly when there are alot of affects on screen) I've not really had too many problems.
However, recently I've been rubberbanding some and far worse than that, there is a pause for each action I try to take. For example, I'll click an attack and it'll actually go off about two seconds later. It's very irritating.
Checking my netgraph, my Ping is sometimes at 800, sometimes at 1000 and even sometimes at 1600. A friend of mine tells me this is way too high.
My computer has been running more slowly in general, actually. Previously, if I were watching a video on youtube for instance, the video would just start right up and play without a problem. Now, I have to wait for the entire video bar to be filled before starting the video or else it will keep pausing.
My computer recieves internet through a router. The router recieves the internet from my sister's computer which has a router as well as a modem. Apparently, her router and modem were too close (right next to each other) and moving them apart as far as I could helped somewhat (about four feet).
My sister recently had an issue with her computer because my nephew had hit the internet explorer button several hundred times. After that, she had dozens of windows that would not close for days. Her computer seems to be okay now, but my problems started about the time that she had her problem. No idea if that might have anything to do with it.
I recently updated and ran my virus scanner as well as updated Windows. I also defragmented my hard drive.
I'm not terribly computer savvy, so I'm sure I'm missing important information. Please, if anyone is bored and has the time to help me out, I would greatly appreciate it and give whatever information is needed as best as I can.
Thanks! -
Hello all, I'm new to this section of the forums as I don't actually roleplay while playing CoX.
However, I need ideas for roleplay plots.
I'll explain:
In a few days I'll be flying to another state to visit a good friend of mine. This friend introduced me to Dungeons and Dragons many years ago and along with a group of friends we played that for a couple of years but after a while a few of us became bored with it and decided we wanted to create our own roleplaying game where we could play as superheroes/villains, vampires, cyborgs--pretty much anything, although mainly super powered humans.
Well, my friend and I have been playing this game for well over a decade but I moved a couple of years ago and now only see him for about a week every year.
So, what I was hoping for, was that if any of you had the free time or were bored, you could throw out some plot ideas for me to use.
I've almost always acted as the GM, so I've had to come up with fresh ideas for years now and I'm worried that my ideas might be getting a bit stale and as I only have one week out of the year to roleplay, I want it to be as fun as possible.
So.
The characters that we'll be playing will be superhero types based out of a fictional city we created but other than that there really isn't much in the way of limitation as to the story ideas.
I'm sure this should be more informative but I'm half asleep, sorry about that.
So, any ideas you'd like to throw out there would be much appreciated! Thanks for your time!
