Scrapper concern

I left the game around issue #4 ( quite a while ago) but decided to come back after all the changes I have been hearing about. I have been trying new alts and builds but I have a question on scrappers. My first build was a Dark/Invuln scrapper ( back in issure #1) and I played him to level 28 I believe. Back then, he couldnt hit the broad side of a barn with most of his attacks. (didnt have a lot of ACC slotted as I really didnt know what I was doing then). And the damage he dealt was really nto on par with other AT's. My question is has the Dark Scrapper improved since then? Are there other primaries that truly outshine the Dark set? I am thinking of rollilng one up again and taking Willpower as a secondary as that seems to be pretty popular on the boards. Any suggestions?

Yes, Dark has been buffed quit a bit. The damage is pretty good now and Invuln also got a buff not to long ago.

I have a DM/WP brute and it is very good, scrapper should play very similar. I think WP is one of the most popular sets out there right now. You will have Quick Recovery and Stamina if you want both endurance is just not an issue at all.

Oh, welcome back.

I have a Dark/Willpower Scrapper and it is easily the toughest character I have played. I solo Archvillains with her with no temp powers or inspirations. She is IO'ed out but with not a single set of Purples.

Dark is lacking in AoE damage...but the single target attacks are quite impressive. Siphon Life in particular (which used to do pitiful damage for an anemic heal) is now my favorite attack in the set as it now does high damage while giving you about 5% of your Hit Points back each time, which is really quite a bit as it recharges fairly quickly.

In my opinion, Dark/Willpower meshes better than any other Scrapper sets. It was easily the smoothest ride to 50 I have had on any toon. I can't express enough how much I enjoy it or how good it is.

I also think that Dark Melee in general is a great set and would work nicely with any secondary.

I have always liked the Dark set as claws/katana/broadsword and now dual blade all have lethal damage which is highly resisted in the game, where Dark is not resisted as much ( I could be wrong on this, again I have not played in years). I am not very familiar with willpower but all the talk seems to point it out as a good secondary. I have never played any scrapper as an aoe machine, thats what a fire blaster is for. My concern was the "to hit" chance of dark was very very low back then (maybe 1 out of every 5-6 attacks got through) and I was wondering if that has changed as well.

Both Dark/ and /Inv got improved. Also, changes to the structure of IO set bonuses for typed defense really, really helped Invulnerability become more competitive with the best Scrapper sets.

Dark/WP would do fine -- but Dark/Inv will also do great, and the synergy between primary and secondary is pretty good in either case. Either one would be a solid choice. If you still have that 28 Dark/Inv, that might sway you; and WP might be a little easier to start from scratch.

Yeah.

The Scrapper primaries don't have any stinkers. Anything will perform well. But most of the primaries have something in particular they do very well. Dark is a grab bag of great utility powers without giving up good, fast damage, although largely single-target. It won't compete with Spines or Claws for area damage, or the swords for defense if stacking with a defense-based secondary. Even Martial Arts was recently shown to be a much better single-target set for DPS than previously thought, and it always looks great.

For synergy, though, Dark/Shield, Dark/Inv, Dark/WP, and Dark/SR are pretty sweet combos.
