Ping is WAY too high...

I've been playing the game for three years and while my system is nothing special (I've experienced some lag here and there, particularly when there are alot of affects on screen) I've not really had too many problems.

However, recently I've been rubberbanding some and far worse than that, there is a pause for each action I try to take. For example, I'll click an attack and it'll actually go off about two seconds later. It's very irritating.

Checking my netgraph, my Ping is sometimes at 800, sometimes at 1000 and even sometimes at 1600. A friend of mine tells me this is way too high.

My computer has been running more slowly in general, actually. Previously, if I were watching a video on youtube for instance, the video would just start right up and play without a problem. Now, I have to wait for the entire video bar to be filled before starting the video or else it will keep pausing.

My computer recieves internet through a router. The router recieves the internet from my sister's computer which has a router as well as a modem. Apparently, her router and modem were too close (right next to each other) and moving them apart as far as I could helped somewhat (about four feet).

My sister recently had an issue with her computer because my nephew had hit the internet explorer button several hundred times. After that, she had dozens of windows that would not close for days. Her computer seems to be okay now, but my problems started about the time that she had her problem. No idea if that might have anything to do with it.

I recently updated and ran my virus scanner as well as updated Windows. I also defragmented my hard drive.

I'm not terribly computer savvy, so I'm sure I'm missing important information. Please, if anyone is bored and has the time to help me out, I would greatly appreciate it and give whatever information is needed as best as I can.

Thanks!

You need more than a virus scanner, get Mal-ware scanner (Malwarebytes.org) and Ad-Aware (lavasoft.com). Once those 2 each give you a clean bill of health, then Post a hi-jack and dxdiag logs.

Also, the double router is a odd. Very odd. You should have a single router. The stacking routers each introduce latency.

If at all possible, hook your computer into the router that your sister's computer uses. If you must connect to an intermediary device, put it into 'bridge' mode, as you don't want two routers unless you absolutely know how to configure them to not be redundantly filtering or 'routing' traffic.

Yeah...try hooking directly into your sisters router.

I'm really curious as to why you have 2 routers in this sort of setup.

That doesn't sound like hitting the IE button several hundred times, that sounds like a virus. A nasty one, too. You say that you have run a virus scanner on your PC but has your sister? I'm betting she has several viri on her PC now.

I didn't even know you could chain routers together. Live and learn.

If they use different subnets yep, I have for whatever silly reason had need to nest 3 deep on occasion.

Okay, thanks for the help everyone!

I've determined that the double routers are almost certainly the problem.

(Not sure why there are two, that's just what there was when I moved in. My sister has no idea either as it's something her ex-husband did.)

The other day I tried unplugging and then replugging in her modem and that did no good.

However, later, I tried unplugging and then replugging in her router and my ping dropped down to 200!

The only problem is that after a while the ping just goes right back up again. After an hour or so.

So, any recomendations on how I would just plug in straight to her router? Please bear with me as I am not tech savvy at all.

Thanks for all the help!

best idea is to get a new router that has several ports for mulitple comps. also when you reset(unplugging all connections) the modem, you have to do the same for the router. then plug in the modem and wait 30 sec's for the modem to be active then plug in the router. wait 30 sec's again for full activation and then turn on the comp. after turning on the comp do a disk clean up and defrag. this should help.

Just a thought...with the storms the power flickers a couple times at my house this week...and each time I was forced to unplu/replug my router.

Maybe that was the reason all along.
