I teamed with a TA/ defender maybe 3 nights ago, everytime they'd use OSA id try to light it with my mutant temp power.
In 2 or 3 missions I never managed to get it lit. -
Quote:Heres how I handle that.Empaths are a tricky situation indeed. When you recruit one empath, you don't know if he's going to have HA on auto, fire off RAs precisely once inside the mission door, then go AFK, or if the whole team's heads will stay lit up like Christmas as they skate through +2s with ease. When you recruit two empaths, you don't know if the second is going to be redundant deadweight, or if the Empaths will AB each other and make purples cry and hand you XP on silver platters.
Me: /t teh healzor, "do you buff n blast or only heal?"
teh healzor:, "I only healz"
Me: /t teh healzor, "ok thanks. glhf"
Me: /t Sir buff n' blast, "are you teh healzor?"
Sir buff n' blast, "lol, no, I got fort and CM and know what to do with them."
Me: /t Sir buff n' blast, "lvl X team runnin in X, wanna join?"
Invite sent.
That generally weeds out the undesirables.
But then again, Id almost always have any kinda defender over an empath. -
Gravity control's wormhole is wonderful at takin alphas, as long as you can lose line of sight.
If unable to lose LOS you have an aoe hold to eat the alpha. Hopefully you wont run into a position where you just used your aoe hold and then cant use wormhole on the next spawn. Id take my chances though. Of course I may be the no. 1 fan of gravity control.
Other than that, id agree with the dark miasma recommendation. -
CAK has -fly
CK has a chance for knock. -
I had the idea for a "fear" toon. Kat/da stalker it was.
I was hopin to capitalize on the new "scare" effect after an AS and then toggle up CoF to fear whole spawns. It didnt quite work the way I planned.
Animation times on starting CoF are horrible and waste the new scare effect and then the cooldown on retogglin it for the next spawn are just as bad.
Id be on board with a revamp of the animation times/activation.
Id rather not see the devs waste resources on recoding the 2 auras into pbaoe clicks. -
Id agree that mind/ice isnt what it used to be.
My own mind/ice used to rock, not so much anymore.
mind/fire if your starting a new toon. -
One can hope the new "rogue" AT comin out with GR will satisfy this kinda request.
Id love a ranged/armor or a melee/buff AT.
If for no other reason than more choices for all. -
Ice tanks can softcap with just SO's. And no tough/weave needed either.
I know, I did it.
Properly slotted energy absorption will get you there.
Hoarfrost and Hibernate almost completely nullify any 1 shotting people claim will fell any ice/ tank. -
Not the stupidest thing IVE done but I see a bunch of dumb emps putting CM on tanks/scraps and not the def/troller/blasters all the time.
Mind you this is random PuG stuff.
That REALLY chaps my ***. -
Welcome indeed. This game is the best MMO ive played to date.
Id suggest you roll all the different archtypes actually.
Play a tank, blaster, defender, troller, scrapper. Id say this is the best way to understand the game in as little time as possible.
Id be more than happy to roll up a toon with you anytime and have a play session to show you the ends and outs of CoH. -
Quote:So not only do I not program neither do you.Again, I can see that you don't program.
If you expect perfection, you WILL be disappointed.
The person above who equated Programming and accounting together painted a pretty good analogy. I do auditing for the company I work for and they are correct - you are supposed to go through the data with a fine tooth comb and be accurate. If you find mistakes as an auditor, you report it and get it fixed to make sure it doesn't happen again. If its a BIG mistake...well - there is Enron as an example of failed auditing.
There can either be 3 solutions that would make you happy JMS. They could:
A). Do what they do now (Which is try to get their code mistake free as possible, test it as best they can, and fix what gets broken or missed later)
B). Slow down their production schedule to get more testing done internally...I would guess a Similar QA process that a console game might have - which might take years to complete 1 issue
or
C) Raise the price of the game to higher an assload of additional QA to keep production schedule the same and your required level of quality.
Option C isn't going to happen, and option B would probably cause a sunset of the game.
Now please explain what expertise you have on programming.
And explain as an auditor what would happen if mistakes were pointed out and then "fixed" incorrectly as well. -
Quote:Let me see if I can get my point across this way.You don't program do you?
See how easy it was for you to miss spell that word bolded above? When you are looking at a sheet of code or at a spreadsheet, its easy to go 'bug-eyed' and miss stuff.
Good programmers will make mistakes. If they took the time to test everything themselves (instead of having open beta's/bug reporting done by users), we'd still be back in i3.

Even if you DID originally catch the error, using the origal power numbers and not the reworked numbers what did you accomplish? You made a fix on something that again is faulty because you didnt check to make sure your doin it right the first time?
Those kinda mistakes arent tolerated in business. Why do you allow yourself and your developer team to let these mistakes "get by" in the first place?
"Even if you DID originally catch the error, using the ORIGINAL pwer nombers and nut the reworked numbers what did you accomplish? You made a fix on something that again is faulty because you didnt check to make sure your doin it right the first time?" etc etc
Did I do a better job fixing my original post?
No I didnt, and neither did Castle when he said he went back to look at the power and used the original wrong numbers.
Honestly, I do expect more from the lead developer than this. -
Look at what ive commented on in both this and that thread.
I think we're in agreement for the most part.
With the only cavaet that trollers will have to wait till 32 (pets) 38 (FS if its /kin) and then epics to REALLY do the damage your talkin about. -
Quote:Controllers can do everything better than everyone else. They aren't hugely popular because they take a long time to mature and even while outperforming everyone else they do it subtlety with a very high flow of dot damage rather than huge orange numbers (exception being controller seismic smash). That and very few people spec their controllers to maximize damage output.
Things like fire/rad, ill/rad, fire/kin, plant/kin, fire/storm, earth/storm, ill/cold and others are simply disturbingly powerful if built to the purpose.
And no I don't mean something as niche as a fire/kin farming s/l mobs only. People that think that combo is limited to doing that have either never played it or don't know how to play it.
Trollers do have some deep lows as well, but you'd no more pick something like an ice/ff troller for the purpose of dealing damage than you'd pick a /nrg dom for the purpose of dealing aoe damage. That is implied and really shouldn't need to be stated, but I'm doing it because it probably does need to be stated or someone will come along and pick that nit.
edit: see what I mean?
Why can they be more powerful than dominators? because buff/debuff sets are > assault sets at determining peak power and because trollers have exceptionally potent epic powersets available to them. It results in a very different playstyle, which I already pointed out though.
I think this is bad advice to give a newb.
Sure very specific IO'd troller builds can attain almost cosmic lvl power in this game, but by-and-by, NO I dont agree they're the best.
Those specific builds would be fire/kins, fire/storms, fire/rads, ill/rad,
And the specifics I gave are largely based on /secondaries that either do damage or increase damage via -resistance or +damage.
Something like an earth/FF or an ice/emp would suck to play if you wanted solo speed.
Remember Frost, this is a new player asking for beginning advice on playstyle differences between doms and trollers.
Blanket statements like the 1 I quoted wont help that newb lvl from 1-50. -
Quote:It takes real ballz to come into this thread and answer these questions Castle. It speaks of your character. The "above poster" would be the one who found the error thanks to reports from "the clients", rather than the one who created the error. Or, are you saying it is accounting policy to fire the auditors for finding mistakes?
This is a game that I enjoy very much. Thank you for putting the effort into making it what it is. Like I said, I truly LOVE the game.
But since your responded to me, allow me to respond back to you.
Quote:Good catch. I was looking at the original power, as I designed it, rather than the reworked version that was done later.
Those kinda mistakes arent tolerated in business. Why do you allow yourself and your developer team to let these mistakes "get by" in the first place? -
Quote:You're right. I did use .85 instead of .8 for the math. I always think of tankers having a .85 mod for some reason. I've been making that same mistake for years. Thankfully, the game applies the mods instead of me having to pre-calculate things, so it's not as bad as it COULD be.
FWIW, nothing is going to be done about this for now. It's too big and widespread of an issue for me to unilaterally decide on how to approach it. I'll give folks a heads up on what is decided as soon as I know.Quote:Good catch. I was looking at the original power, as I designed it, rather than the reworked version that was done later. For scrappers, it is scale 3.6 on the Minion_Pet table, which is a far cry from the scale 1.4 on the Minion_Pet table I originally designed for it. I vaguely remember someone (Synapse? Sunstorm? I'd have to dig into check in notes to see) asking me if they could update it to include AT Mods in the damage scales and saying yes.
Hmm...yeah, ok. I can very easily see what happened here.
Shield Charge when released was set for a scale 1.7 damage to all targets within 20' of impact, with 0.7 scale bonus within 3' of impact. When the change to allow AT scaling was made, the bonus damage was rolled into the overall damage, for a scale of 2.4 to all targets in a 20' radius. At the same time, instead of have Brutes getting a mod of 0.75 applied, they were treated as the base.
So, instead of:
Brutes 3' scale 1.8, 20' scale 1.275
Tankers 3' scale 2.04, 20' 1.445
Scrappers 3' scale 2.7, 20' scale 1.9125
We get:
Brute 20' scale 2.4
Tanker 20' scale 2.712
Scrapper 20' scale 3.6
That REALLY sucks.
And having forum posters catch these mistakes instead of double or triple checkin your work speaks bad about again quoted poster -
Ive played 3 doms to 50
A perma mind/ice thats wicked fun. Id suggest a mind/fire over it though just for the added damage of /fire
An earth/fire thats incredibly useful for team play.
And a grav/thorn thats more shtick than anything. Wormhole to thorntrops. Its fun but nothing to write home about.
If I were to roll a new dom it'd probably be ice/psi.
That toon has so much synergy between the prim/sec.
If you dont know. All doms have the same damage in Domination and out of Domination.
Domination gives an endurance refill, double mag on controls and mez protection.
So while perma dom is useful its not the end-all-be-all it used to be.
Doms have (at least in my opinion) lost the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde feel I loved so much but I believe the changes are better over-all for the AT. -

So we just found out that maybe/probably two peeps that are arguin me on my posts are snitches and crybabies that report posts when they're mentioned in an unflaturing light.
2 billion influence to the first person to guess which 2 im talkin about. -
Quote:soThe part I am quoting (sorry mod 08) is a direct personal attack, at least that would be my guesstamate on what rule that post violates. The rest of the post looks fine this would be my best guess, again you will probably get a PM Mod08 might not have gotten around to it yet.
For example I could say "Philly stop trolling" and that would be ok, saying "Philly your a troll" not ok. (I think anyway if i remember the wording) Not that i would ever be a troll on these forumsThe fact that you named names would be what probably got it reported and erased.
Quote:If as many of you pros(see: dodgy and clawlz) actually remembered what you thought you may talk alot less and realize how retarded you seem to those of that actually know what the **** is going on and what went on. Just saying.
But if i say con, max, and bb are some of the worst trolls thats not.
kk I THINK I understand -
Quote:My bad, reading comprehension for teh loss.Look real man of genius a couple of facts for you. Only a mod can perform the function in question. Second the edited part in merc's post says last edited by mod 08. I know a huge leap of logic has to take place here but I have faith.
I didnt notice the mod 08 edit. -
Quote:imma try to retype what i posted.Just to further explain, Merc only quoted your post partially and what was quoted by him most likely did not include the forum rule violating wording. My guess is (i can't remember) Max quoted the whole post, and thus also required deletion. Usually you get a PM telling you a post was deleted beause you violated forum rule x *looks at all the old PM's from Nivine and Mod 08* I maybe speaking from experience....
"Clawsandeffects. your a great player who gives great advice.
However, your advice about restaurants running a patron outta the business by changing prices/music etc etc is wrong.
I run a restaurant. its what ive done my whole life.
If a patron is unruly or rude to customers theyre asked to leave. Plain and simple. If they dont wanna go peacefully the big meathead bouncer will show them the door.
Changin prices on what that rude patron drinks will only make him switch to something else, and im stuck with stock that wont sell cuz other stuff is cheaper.
I dont need any reason to kick a patron at of my bar (at least in virginia) and I have a sign outside the front door that says "management has the right to refuse service".
Pvp used to be fun, id spend hours in there daily. Ive spent probably 20 hours total pvp'n since I13 hit.
some of our regular forum pvp'er are the biggest smack talkers there are, namely, conflict, BB and supermax."
Now what pray tell would a mod find offensive about said post?
