Quote:I concur. First 50 was a bots/pain. If you slot 'em right and play 'em right, they can be pretty nasty.Anyway /Pain is a great set that can do some seriously mean damage, throw in things like reactive and barrier and you'll eventually get through the rough early-incarnate stuff ok.
The /pain secondary really comes into its own during the tougher battles. Normally, my bots are a pretty solid wall of damage. If I dismiss the Battle Drones and start throwing heals and buffs onto the Assault Bot, suddenly all my team's support is concentrated on the group's heavy damage dealer. Now factor in any Incarnate boosts and procs the MM might have.
In the last BAF Trial I ran, my A-Bot had to switch AVs repeatedly because he was grinding away hit points faster than the team attacking the other AV! -
Carebears don't leave trails of rainbows. Robot Unicorns, however, do.

I'd say the Freedom stress test showed that the server holding more than 3500 players at once is just like holding a live hand grenade with the pin removed. It's possible, but not recommended.

All air control while jumping in CoH, CJ included, follows Isaac Newton's Laws of Motion. If you don't know them already, here's a wiki link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newton%27s_laws_of_motion
From my own experience, the thing that drives air control is how well your Run Speed overrides your jumping momentum. Try enhancing your Run Speed. If you can handle the end drain, try using CJ with Sprint turned on. -
I recently ran into a situation similar to this. I was rolling a Dominator, which I dressed up as a scarecrow or hobgoblin. Looked certifiably badass as far as scarecrows go.
When I got to naming him, I hit a snag. I was rolling a villain with a scarecrow or hobgoblin theme. Both "Scarecrow" and "Hobgoblin" are names of popular scarecrow- and hobgoblin-themed villains in DC and Marvel comics, respectively. Took me the better part of an hour to think of a name that didn't seem to say "possible ripoff of a Batman villain." -

Yes. A tradition honored and kept by many a pinball wizard. *ba-da-dum-tsh*

I guess it's one way to get your Bills knocked out... -
DEAR GOD THIS.
This is one of the top reasons I hate Speed Boost with a passion. People keep throwing SB on me in places where being SB'ed does more harm than good, like CoT cave maps. And then they get indignant when I ask them to stop because I KEEP CRASHING INTO WALLS.
I'm about to the point where I'll quit a team the moment a kin responds with my request to stop with "No, I'm doing my job, shut up and be happy." Hey, they asked... -
Not sure if you mean Chest EMBLEMS or Chest DETAILS. Either way, I'd definitely go for it.
I'd also get behind having the TV cycle through "channels," a few being easter eggs based on actual popular TV shows. One good one would be the "LOST" title card; a double play on the TV series by J.J. Abrams and the villain group known for wearing a TV as a helmet. -
I have Asperger's Syndrome, which often comes with increased sensitivity to certain lights and sounds. I haven't experienced any seizures from the visual FX, but many of them have bothered me in some way.
Many of the sound FX, though, DO ride the threshold of pain for me.
I mentioned in another thread in Suggestions that all of the high-pitched whistles, shrieks, screams, and rings need to be toned down or removed. I still stand by that sentiment. I refuse to take Gravity or Sonic powers because of this, and Peacebringers are walking/flying migraines. -

I agree with this thread.
There are certain things that should not be dictated by a computer, least of all a single computer using a static measuring rod to judge performance based on a single set of numbers.
If such a system HAS to be in place, at least change it so that everyone isn't measured on the same stick. From the day CoH launched, the individual ATs were designed to have unique strengths and weaknesses so that they synergize well together as a team.
I'd rig it so that players are measured according to their archetype, rather than against a single set of numbers. Each AT has a primary set of numbers matching their respective areas of expertise, which determine his overall performance rating. A secondary set of numbers would add up the "counterbalance" statistics, which track the AT's weaknesses and boost/penalize the Primary score accordingly.
A MM, for example, would be graded using the average number of buffs, debuffs, damage, and heals cast, averaging the MM's own performance with that of each pet he has had active during the trial. Naturally, this would give a MM an absurdly high score every time. To balance this, the Secondary figures would weigh the number of times the MM was defeated and the number of times he resummoned a pet. -

Quote:The reason I focus on hair is because actual glowing hair (and not just glow-in-the-dark) tends to give people a very unreal, supernatural feel in a way that glowing bodies don't often manage to accomplish.
Or, for scifi buffs such as yours truly...
Quote:The reason I focus on hair is because actual glowing hair (and not just glow-in-the-dark) tends to give people a very unreal, artificial feel in a way that glowing bodies don't often manage to accomplish. -
Okay, technical BS aside, bottom line: glowing costume parts is doable and much desired.

Quote:The problem with making patterns glow is with how glows appear to be coded. A "glowing" area of a texture is actually baked into the base texture, itself, something that colour patterns can't do.
I have some experience in computers and 3D modeling, and I can tell you this isn't necessarily true.
The "glow" is not "baked into" a texture on a computer-generated 3D model. The computer renders "glowing" or "full bright" textures by default. This is how a computer prefers to process graphics; solid, clean, and uniform.
What's "baked in" are actually the options governing shadows and lighting effects.
You can see this in action in the game; depending on how fast your graphics card is, you'll sometimes see walls and objects light up like a Christmas tree for about a second while the lighting effects finishing loading.
Quote:One solution to this is what they've been using so far - only institute textures with SOME glowing parts and lock that glow to the secondary colour, but all that does is prevent you from using patterns.
If that were the case, your computer would have to redraw the pattern texture every time you moused over a new base option, causing your system to take a performance hit and possibly causing it to crash more often. More points of failure is BAD for any game, least of all an MMORPG with enough performance issues as it is.
The pattern graphics appear to be on their own layer rather than tied to the base texture. If that is true, then they could just copy the existing color patterns into new ones with the options for rendering shading and lighting effects turned off, then code them back into the game as normal pattern options.
From there, the player should be able to set how bright they want their costume to glow by simply selecting brighter or darker colors from the existing pallet. The closer the player gets to that color's "true" value, the brighter the costume pieces effected will appear to glow. -
Quote:Yes, Glowing Hair. No, that's not a typo. I didn't accidentally hit G instead of F.
This should be a simple solution to explain - I want to see hair options that look exactly like our existing hairs, but instead of shaders and textures, they consist of just one flat unshaded colour which is constantly bright, even in the dark. You know how the Resistance chest and gloves have those glowing lines? Like that, only over the entire surface of the hair.
If you've noticed, we have a few "hair aura" options but, to be honest, they're not very good. A glowing hair model, by contrast, would look pretty cool, even if it loses surface shaping, especially on eldritch characters and aliens.
I lack the photoshop skills (along with PhotoShop) to make a mock-up of this and such an idea is beyond simple pigg diving, so I don't have any reference pics, unfortunately.
What, only hair?
I'd like to see a "Glowing" option for all costume parts, particularly for Tights patterns. Resistance gear and Mutant Pack options already prove that it's doable.
An easy way I see to do this would be to have the option apply to the primary/secondary colors for each costume piece. Put it under the color swatches, next to the "Link Colors" toggle button. When checked, it produces a slider bar so you can set how brightly you want that option's color to glow, from "noticeable in the dark" to "neon-bright."
Might be good to add a few options with this feature in mind. -
Quote:When I follow, I assume that the leader of the team/league is going to be mature with his leadership. If he assumes I know what's going on and then adopts a "moar l33t than u" attitude when somebody doesn't play EXACTLY like they do, I'll quit the team immediately and one-star-ignore him. When I lead, I assume that most people know what is going on. And that if they dont, they will ask. Crazy notion right? If they ask..I will gladly tell them. Ever if they dont, I always give a lil briefing for whatever it is. Like..'clear streets, courtyards, turrets etc,' 'team 1 to warehouse, 2 to lab,' 'use acids on glowing doors, wait by teh container spawn, dont aggro.'
Granted, not the most detailed instructions, but nothing in these is really that tricky. Oh, temp powers on the HUGE glowing doors? Wow thats crazy! Nothing like that in the game before...! Oh wait..maybe I dc'd during that part of mission X.. -
Quote:No.why didn't they put it up on all the billboards in the game?... I mean after those 2 RL ads ran there haven't been any other ad dropped on the billboards. If you can't get real companies to shell cash for your ad space, then use it yourself....
but that would require the players to have "in game ads" enabled... oh well.
maybe if enough people complain then the dev team might have another sale... like around the 8 year anniversary... I'm just gonna go ahead and say it...
Stay tuned! BIG SALE planned for 8 year Anniversary!
there, is that enough warning?
"Enough warning" would be in size 1200 font, made out of neon lights, mounted on the side of a hill, and surrounded by stadium lights. "Enough warning" would also have stadium-size loudspeakers blasting the CoH theme songs for Heroes, Villains, and Praetorians, with controlled explosions going off behind the whole display to serve as a bass line. -
Rerolled a wolf with a shield on Virtue as a Praetorian. And then remembered that Praetor White has a thing for dogs. Punderstorm warning is in effect for Nova Praetoria....

Quote:Related: "Make sure you have league members active on your map" can go one of two ways: "Ignore the map and ***** about being unable to find anyone" or "ignore the 'league member' map setting and ***** about only having three people on the map helping you fight mobs."I experienced all of these definitions at one point or another. Also I think you should add 'All communications will be through league chat' means 'Everything will be broadcast on local or team chat, and if you see no activity on them it means that you have the okay to do whatever you feel like."

I started a brute named "A Taurus" (every other pun on the word "bull" was taken. Though I did manage to snag "Indestructa Bull"). He's still in his noob levels, though; my attention's been on other characters as of late. So no funny NPC chatter.
-
I, too, am playing mostly low level characters lately.
Reason: I only have one 50, and it's a Mastermind loaded with IO set bonuses. Her build's not bad, really; on a good run, she can pack a serious wallop.
But after grinding my way to 50, I was ready to move on to something else by the time I unlocked her Alpha Slot.
Now I'm working on getting SOMETHING to 50, my three main contenders being a DP/elec blaster, a SS/WP brute, or a Crab Spider. -
Quote:Or at the very least, actually display the required level for each power in the set/pool. I get tired of asking "what level does <power> unlock at again?" in Vent or global channels. If I mouse over a power at the power selection interface, the description should read "Power available at Security/Threat Level ##." If I right-click a power in the Powers window, I should see "Unlocked at Level ##" between the power's name and effect types.- No "power trees." Maybe it's just personal taste, but I despise having to pick up "prerequisite" powers to unlock stuff further down the tree. The pool powers are tolerable, but a whole game based around trees isn't attractive to me.
And while we're at it, I'd replace the "minor/moderate/etc" verbiage with actual base numbers, the attributes displayed depending on what type of power it is I'm looking at.
For example, if it's a click single-target attack power, I should see the attack's base numbers for damage and accuracy. If the attack has a debuff or status effect attached to it, I'd expect to see the debuff's/effect's base magnitude, duration time, and chance to proc. This is all without enhancements, and assuming you're attacking a target with average defense and minimal resistance (say, around 5% at the most?). -
Quote:I agree. Something must be done about this. All those people having fun just aren't taking this video game seriously. Having fun and enjoying oneself should be against Terms of Service.I've noticed this happening more and more frequently on Lambda Trials - people skipping the second phase of the mission and posing at Marauders cutscene location. They may consider this to be amusing - I consider it to be leaching. We have an objective to meet, and you're not contributing.
Suggestions:
1. As a minimum, I'd like the person's name to appear in the cutscene. This makes it easier to locate the person in the league list and 1-star note them as "Lambda Leacher".
2. A better solution would be to allow selection and right click of the person during the cutscene. That way as a player, I can go ahead and 1 star them before the 3rd phase begins. As trial leader, I would love to be able to /kick them during the cutscene.
Edit:
3. A third possibility is to just change the cutscene so no player can appear. Take away the temptation completely....
This behavior seems to be spreading, I've seen up to 4 players doing this.
Good call, Reverend Killjoy. Good call.
