With the flooding in Thailand knocking out a good percentage of the worlds hard drive production, I would not expect SSD prices to drop. In the short term, I expect SSD production to be ramped up (to the extent possible) in order to get business that previously would have gone to hard drives.

AFTER hard drive production is restored, and the backlog of orders dealt with, THEN I would expect to see a drop in SSD prices. Maybe by 4th quarter 2012.

They're very reliable. They're also much more durable than hard drives. One of the SSD manufacturers did a video of what it takes to destroy one. That had a guy 'pitch' it to someone else who hit it with a bat and it still worked fine. To actually make it fail, they needed to step up to a golf club. A full strength swing shattered the casing.

Having said that, I can't imagine using one as a back-up device. You're paying through the nose and giving up the biggest benefit (higher transfer speed). This is the opposite of the normal strategy. Everyone used to use tape drives for their back-ups. Sure, they were slow, but who cared when it was doing a scheduled and unattended back-up. The point is, they were cheap. Whatever back-up method you use for offsite copies, you really should have a minimum of TWO. The goal here is that you never have all copies in the same location at the same time. If you have the one computer and one back-up drive, the day you bring the back-up to the computer is the day your desk catches fire.

P.S. "especially with a lot of read/writing to disk" - Using an SSD for a back-up is NOT a lot of read/writing to disk. Not by any stretch of the imagination. My SSD is my primary drive on a system that runs 24/7. I have a ton of stuff running at all times, including 8 instances of SETI@home.
  4. It's a pretty safe bet they're not actually gone. Characters are never ever deleted. (Well, they have deleted characters that used exploits, but that's neither here nor there.)

Make sure you reactivated the correct account.
Make sure you didn't accidentally create a new account.
Make sure you're looking at the right server. Scroll down to see them all.
Make sure you're on the right 'page' of characters. We have 4 pages of 12 slots each now.

um... I was online this morning and I sure as hell got the red alert text on every single chat tab warning about the servers going down.

As far as the volume of data, you'll be fine.
HOWEVER, some carriers have restrictions in addition to the data limit. There are a few that explicitly prohibit online gaming over the connection. I would suggest reviewing your terms of service.

I don't see that often enough to think that's it's still the default, but there are plenty of toons out there who are still set that way.
HOWEVER, this definitely generates an error message to the person sending the tell, advising that the 'sendee' is not accepting enemy tells.

    Leveling Pacts

Yes, they do. I do most of my leveling from task forces, which have a minimum level to join. Supersidekicking does not solve that. Level pacts do.

Neither. Both sides have at least some people who are perfectly willing to murder innocent people to further their goals.
And when I say "some", I mean too many for them to be considered as rogues or loose cannons.

    Quote:
It's someone who dislikes, doesn't understand or just disbelieves in the idea of a tanker as a combat controller. And since tanker damage is less than scrapper damage, they to to augment their attack chains with power choices to turn what could be a first-rate tank into a third-rate scrapper.
Or it's someone who doesn't subscribe to your definition of the AT. Maybe they want an indestructible scrapper and damage isn't their priority.

Then, when this blows up in their face, their teammates, who're expecting a modicum of aggro control, are the ones who pay the price.
Or not. You can manage a heck of a lot more than a 'modicum' of aggro control without taking Taunt.
  12. They definitely don't give a global rename with every issue. I think we've gotten more than one, though. I seem to recall two occasions when the global server went kerflooey and global names got changed to the next character you logged in with. But since that hasn't happened in quite a while, I don't expect any global rename tokens in the foreseeable future.

Paragon Points have been awarding all over the place. I got mine on dramatically different dates in November and December - while my account was in the middle of a 12-month subscription so there was ZERO change to billing.

Is the rest of the high level this stupid now?
Not really. And neither is the ITF. From what I see, it's not normally run that way. People usually take their time and wipe the floor with the enemies, looking for drops, since the missions are packed with bosses and elite bosses.

However, the ITF is the Weekly Strike Target right now so speed runs are more common. I was on a run last night under 20 minutes. It was announced and recruited specifically as a speed run.

I accept the fact of the design intent.
And I applaud people who think outside that box.

Realistically, NOTHING can prove it will be implemented like that. Even if we could quote a source, it would only reveal the devs 'intentions' - same as what's on beta.

Tanker is just one more AT for people to play however they like. If they're trying to tank for a team, yeah, there are expectations. But if they're going to solo or be on a team without 'tanking', people need to be less uptight about build choices.

I'm left wondering if you have a point.
Oh, and VALUE is SUBJECTIVE. I have two accounts and have not even considered letting either lapse. I'm thrilled with the new stuff being released. I may not find something I like in every single Tuesday release, but I'm definitely pleased overall.

    Leveling Pacts

I would be shocked if they don't come back. I would expect restrictions, possibly as significant as pacts being VIP-only, but I do expect them to come back.
  23. She doesn't actually go anywhere; you just can't target her by clicking her hit point display. I have no idea why this happens but it's terribly annoying when you're trying to keep her hit points up and need to find her in a crowd.

Targeting by clicking the HP display works fine for all the enemies in the trials and it works fine for Desdemona MOST of the time. And I wasn't confused at the time.

Go to Paragonwiki.com. That's what everyone else does. The game even tells you about the site in one of the loading screen tips.

Might want to tell us at what point in the video it happens. That way, we can let it load while doing something else then zip ahead to it. I watch for about 2-1/2 minutes and said, "Screw this." and closed the tab.
