Ouroboros graphic problem

Im not sure whats going on when i stand in ouroboros for a few minutes but this has been happening since the patch that introduced titan weapons. I contacted ncsoft tech support via ticket for rubberbanding and they say that its a network issue. But i think that its not network and i think this ouroboros flashing is part of the picture of whats wrong with my system. Here is a video of what happens when i stand in ouroboros for just a short while. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVzD6kEBkac

Any other information you want me to post i will put up. I just uninstalled and reinstalled coh. I just upgraded to a new video card but this problem was happening before i upgraded.

Any help please.

Also everytime i go into the portal corps building i get a flash of the peregrine island zone loading screen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6ILQIB84FQ
Is this a graphical issue or a networking issue?
I also get rubberbanding when i superspeed and fly... I can upload a video of that later.

The issue starts around 3:51.

It's like all the light sources in the game crash for him. The last one to go is the sky and it's endlessly trying to reboot itself (the "strobe" effect he mentions).

I'm wondering if he has either a bad driver install or a bad card.

Nothing's showing on netgraph.

Going to see if I can dupe it on my laptop.

*Update*

Okay. Unable to duplicate it.

A couple suggestions:

  1. If this is a desktop machine, pop it open, clean out the insides and make sure all your power cords are firmly seated. If necessary, unplug it and firmly plug it back on to be sure.
  2. Uninstall the graphics drivers in safe mode. Run a driver sweeper. Then reinstall.
  3. Try having the NCLauncher run a check on your game files just in case.
  4. Try yanking or just turning off MemTurbo. It's possible the program is being overly-aggressive and causing corruption of data in-memory.

To be completely honest this error was happening with my old card that was stock in this desktop. My old card was a geforce 7300 LE 256mb so I upgraded thinking this was a problem with the card going bad. So here is what i did when i installed my new card. Im not an expert at installing new hardware but im fairly proficient. The first thing i did was opened up the case and removed the old card. Then i took apart the heatsink to the cpu because the air duster just wasnt removing the dust i could see anymore. I removed the fan from the heat sink and cleaned it very well.

I then placed the heat sink with the fan and the new card into the machine. Rebooted to normal mode and used the installation disk that came with the new card and tried to install some drivers. The instillation disk already said i was using drivers for the geforce gt 520. So i knew i messed up somewhere.

Prior to buying a new card I thought my drivers were bad for my 7300LE because the ouroboros was doing the flashing/strobing thing so i went to the nvidia site and downloaded a driver file. I never uninstalled the driver prior to installing the new card.

So i uninstalled the drivers and rebooted the computer again. This time i was able to install the drivers for the GT 520. But when i started the nclauncher it gave me an error that my drivers were out of date so i went to the nvidia website and did the autodetect feature and downloaded the new driver and installed it.

Then i thought great now my graphical errors will be a thing of the past. No the graphical problems were still there. So i uninstalled and reinstalled city of heroes. The problem was still there. So i downloaded revo uninstaller pro and removed city of heroes because i though there may be some setting in the registry or a dll i missed somewhere. Reinstalled and still the errors were there. Next i contacted tech support via ingame ticket. After downloading game advisor, pingplotter, a proxy service called lowerping, Leatrix Latency Fix and messing with my registry entry called TcpAckFrequency they said it was a network error with my isp.

Now im clueless on how to fix this problem so im coming to the tech forums and uploading some videos for someone to help me. I will go into safe mode and uninstall and then reinstall my drivers like hyperstrike says. Would drivers make it seem as if someone was rubberbanding when using superspeed or fly? Would drivers make the map screen scroll northwest on its own. More videos are coming to show this happening. But first im going to do what hyperstrike says.

So here i am an hour and a half later give or take a few minutes. I turned off the computer and cleaned it and made sure all the connections were tight. Then i started in safe mode and used the device manager and uninstalled the driver for the gt520. I then used the revo uninstaller pro to remove anything nvidia related, registry items, left over files... nothing nvidia on the computer. Restarted the computer and canceled out of the windows new hardware found program. Downloaded the 285.58 drivers from nvidia for my 500 series. Installed them and restarted the computer. Turned off the memturbo. Opened the ncsoft launcher and chose a check for repair (consistency) option. Went to ourobros and stood there for 5 minutes and 13 seconds and got the strobe lights flashing again. Yelled at the screen, threw my hands in the air and pulled a little bit of my hair out.

Here is the video of the rubberbanding http://youtu.be/kLDXS7X_r9g Im not even sure if its rubberbanding anymore because my internet connection is fine, even when im not running behind my router. I get great pings, but dont know how to check packet loss. But could a bad connection to texas make these kind of problems?

Next i will upload a video of the map scrolling northwest.

Hello,

theres one thing to try, stop evrything u have running which isnt from OS or Virus Protect/Firewall related to see if its affecting it, also check the Antivirus-Settings if it runs HD-Scans in the background while gaming.

Especially stop the things like MemTurbo (as Hyperstrike already said),

C:\Program Files\Registry Mechanic\RegMech.exe
C:\Program Files\IObit\Game Booster 3\gbtray.exe

This problem started before I had avast! program. But just in case I deleted AVG from my computer when this was happening. No change. I removed memturbo from the processes and still no change. I had memturbo a long time before the patch to the game that introduced titan weapons. I had much more processes running before that patch, but these are the processes i have running now and im still getting these strange problems.

Also i have a youtube video of the map moving on its own here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CklZuAFPO5Q

Ive never had these types of problems for the 7 years ive played, i need help on trying to fix it.

Please do not take this the wrong way, but it's really to your benefit to read it:

You are kinda missing the point about turning things off. That's probably our fault in not saying 'why'.

It's not to determine what *new* is bothering it. It is to determine if it is *possible at all* to get the game to work correctly.

You do not diagnose a problem by taking things out one by one, in computers. You diagnose the problem by going completely KISS and then adding one thing back at a time until you find that magic bullet. I.e, Power, keyboard, mouse, sound, video card, OS, Game, and that is all. Nothing else to get in the way.

It's MUCH easier to keep track of. Interactions are hard to figure out, leaving anything in makes it difficult to say what is and isn't the thing.

Your best best is to begrudgingly turn off *everything* via MSConfig (or uninstall a program if the option to turn it off is not in MSConfig), no matter how painful that may be, and the test Co* in your new, sleek, unencumbered configuration.

At this point, if Co* still doesn't work right, you are down to hardware, OS, drivers, and the game install, because nothing else can possibly be screwin' with it, right? Right.

If it runs right, though, you can add one thing, and recheck. Add another, then recheck.

Yes it will suck.

But it will solve the problem of 'what the heck?!' the fastest way possible, instead of shotgunning and/or dartboarding.

Hope that helps, and good luck!

Another update. I partitioned a part of my hard drive and reinstalled windows in the new partition and installed the video drivers and installed city of heroes. I uninstalled city of heroes on the original partition. All of the problems still remain: map moves in a nw direction on its own, ouroboros still flashes, and rubberbanding.

As stated before these problems existed before I got a new video card, and they exist after the new video card. I hypothesize this problem in game is either one or a combination of A: Video card B: Internet connection C: Game.

This my latest hijack this.

Seems like a video card/driver issue to me. Have you tried rolling back to an older driver. I think the 275.33's were pretty good before nvidia changed some things in their drivers.

Do the problems persist if you run in safe mode? Also, try turning down some of the eye candy, Ambient Occlusion really saps the frames, and there have been issues with reflections before, water scenes mostly, so crank that down and/or turn it off. See if there is any difference after those changes.

World Texture Level: Very High (lower this)
Character Texture Level: Very High (lower this)
Shadow Map Shader: High quality (lower this)
Environmental Reflections: High quality (lower this)
Ambient Occlusion: High quality (turn this off)

Also, run a program that will let you check to see if your video card is getting to hot. I've used gpuz and hwmonitor.
If the problem goes away, then turn each back on/up, one at a time checking for the issue as you go.

You might want to see if there is an update to your Realtek sound drivers, 1/13/2006.

to the op if i read your computer spec right you only have 2g of ram in your pc?? if it true then you dont have then main ram to run xp and the game..what your seeing is the cpu bottlenecking in the game. newer video cards to help in game play to reach that 30-60 fps that gamers like. that at 1200 or more dpi. at 1024 by 780 that you posted even a 8800 nvida card would run coh fine. if it not the lack of ram i would check your power supply and see if your older pc has a power supply that can handle the new video card. doing a little background it seams your pc is eight years old by it model number and 2g is the max memory for it. if it true that this pc is 4 years or more and has agp video card you old hardware is the issue and not the drivers.

Turn off Anisoptropic Filtering and all other advanced features, especially Ultra mode settings. This I'm assuming will help you with your issues. Even if it doesn't I'm certain your particular cpu/ram/gpu cannot relish some of the settings you have on in this Coh helper file.

Don't be a mindless farm toon, we may need you on a non-soft SF someday. =)
