Quote:I have a better idea. Play to have fun and don't tell other people how to play their characters.I was going to wait until I'd read everything here, but this is wrong.
I've been on teams where an AR blaster [and it's always an AR blaster] thinks they're the tank. I've been on teams where the Tank thinks they're a scrapper. Defenders as blasters. Controllers as scrappers.
Know your role.
"Role" is not synonymous with "AT". A controller can buff the team. A scrapper can tank. You see, in this game, tank is both a noun and a verb. The person 'tanking' doesn't have a BE a tank. -
A number of people will say things like, "Every tank needs Taunt." while others will say, "No tank needs Taunt."Quote:I'm one of the players infamous on the forum for stating that tanks without taunt are bad players, period.
Both groups are idiots. Any blanket statement grouping or excluding everyone is automatically suspect. There is tremendous variation in players and powersets.
This is always my advice. If you have not previously played a tank with Taunt, then YOU MUST TAKE TAUNT. Not because tanks "need" it, but because *YOU* don't know how it works. Tell everyone with an opinion to shut the hell up and find out for yourself exactly how useful it is and how it works.Quote:Taunt is a tool. Some powersets benefit more from it for aggro control than others. (Willpower seems to be brought up as an example of this quite often.)
My suggestion? On your first tank, take it. See how it works.
I've taken tanks to 50 both with and without Taunt. I have an invuln built for tanking AVs and GMs. Taunt is vital there, even if I had never intended to tank Hamidon (which I have). If you're a hardcore soloer, it's a complete waste. Somewhere in that middle ground between 'built for GMs' and 'built to solo' is where most of the playerbase falls.
Based on your comment that you "avoid it at all costs", I would say you are making a mistake. Taunt is a significant and unique power - and you have no clue how it works. Oh sure, you may know the numbers on it. You may have seen it in action and had people explain it to you. Not good enough. If you even DREAM of being a serious tanker, you must understand Taunt through personal experience. Then you can judge how important it is for you in relation to various powersets, your playstyle and team participation. -
Quote:Correct on all counts. Warshades have multiple powers that require you to target a dead enemy. It's worth noting: just as a normal attack will 'pick' a target if you try to activate it with no target selected - the warshade powers will do exactly the same thing. If you try to activate a power that requires a dead target, it will target the nearest dead enemy. The point I'm trying to make is that this statement is wrong. A dead foe is still a valid target. Some powers even require you to have a dead foe targeted, or be in range of a dead foe in order to use them.
The death of your target does NOT break targeting. You now have the dead enemy targeted. Targeting is broken if the enemy self-rezzes. -
We could also use a power that makes you look stupid, like the Mohawk Grenade. How about a power that changes the targets costume to look like Trina the Seamstress.

My opinion: the amount of psi defense or resist that you can get, when starting from zero, is really pathetic. Instead, build on your strength and get set bonuses to boost your regeneration. My invuln has +300% regen and you can do this cheap, since regen is the first bonus. Two from this set, two from that set, etc.

Quote:Go to the auction house at a busy time and announce in local that you have them to sell, since you can't put them in the auction house. That's how I ended up buying a bunch of them.It still seems a shame that I can't put my acc/dam++ HO up for sale.
I wonder, can combined enhancements be attached to emails? -
(shrug)
Now that I've gotten used to the layout, it doesn't seem any less convenient than the old interface to me. And it doesn't freeze up my system every time I open the market. -

It's from the limited edition base booster pa.... just kidding.
Actually, you can simulate water by placing a slow field and 'floating' it above the surface that's supposed to be the bottom of the pool. The slow field is a defensive item. -
Quote:Actually, they do. Some of the effects don't apply in bases, but most of them do. Also, you may have noticed that various items have had their graphics updated. At first, I counted this as a possible side effect of the the new Ultra Mode Graphics. I know that they don't at this point apply to Bases,
Vet Reward base items show up in your personal inventory when claimed. *ANYONE* can place them in the base, anywhere they want. In order to move them after they have been placed, you need editing privileges. But anyone can drop them anywhere they feel like.Quote:But then, I have had Veteran Reward Display Cases start showing up in my Entry Room. I have checked with the other two leaders who have Base Editing Permission, and they tell me they have not put them there. -

Quote:"In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice.PS: You never need to "reinstall". If you run the file verification procedure {you can see the button in the launcher} it will check all game files and only download and reapply the ones that don't match what they're supposed to be.
In practice, there is."
- Yogi Berra
What you say is true IN THEORY.
In practice, you will sometimes encounter a problem that will not be fixed by verifying files but will be fixed by re-installing. As a shortcut, if you can figure out which files have the problem, you can just delete those and FORCE the game to re-download them. There have been several instances recently where verifying files did nothing but deleting the pigg files and forcing CoH to redownload them fixed the problem. -
No. I speculate that he decided that one beatdown a day was his limit.

I'll join. I'll probably bring some type of controller - they're very useful for the respec trial.
Oh, wait, is this hero or villain? If it's villain, I can bring a corrupter - same reasoning as for the controller. -
And the Sister Psyche TF is next. (Are you shocked by this? We just did the Synapse TF.)
Sister Psyche hangs out in Independence Port and the minimum level for this TF is 20. Who wants to slap around some Freakshow?
1. Ironblade - a tank or sonic defender (either 5p4rk or Mr. Shouty).
2. Gillian Boardman - a crime-fighting bunny
3. Mystery Inc - probably a blaster
4. Ramdaros - BS/regen scrapper
5. Omorose - dark/dark defender
6. Ad Astra - a toon that does 'stuff'
7. Taxi Glowworm... I mean Glowstick - rad/rad defender
8. Phydrus - blaster
9. Dr. A. Something-or-other
10. Bete Noire - Bubble Bomb Girl
11. GATE-keeper - Normanticore -
Well, we had a total of 11 people show up, including Gata!
So we had two teams - a team of 6 and a team of 7 after looking for anyone else who was interested - and we teamed up to take down both Babbages.

No. Once you're off a channel, you have no association or link with it. It's just one out of the thousands of other channels.

Player Name: Ironblade
Character Stats: Level 50 broadsword/regen scrapper, magic origin.
1) Whats in a name?
It's clean and simple; anyone can pronounce it and see the link with the character. It's iconic. In fact, there is a temporary power in the game called the Iron Blade. My character came FIRST (by years).
2) Whats in a job?
I originally picked this AT and powersets for simplicity and survival while I learned the ins and outs of the game. I did make a second scrapper, but retired him long before reaching 50. Ironblade is my favorite. I have multiple characters of the other AT's.
3) Whats in a game?
I've played many pen and paper RPGs. I happened to be mostly playing Champions when this game came out so I tried it. I like everything about the game so I'm still here.
4) Whats in a story? What is the greatest adventure youve been on in here?
A fight against Malta back when sidekicking had a limited range. I was SK'ed to a high level player and everyone else on the team was dead. I started to retreat and got the warning that I was at the limit of SK range and the Malta were still pursuing me. I used every inspiration and every temp power I had and defeated the whole crowd while my teammates cheered me on. There were 11 of them, including a purple-con Titan and 3 red-con lieutenants.
5) Whats in a friend?
I run a group of 3 coalitioned SGs. I am a member of several others (red and blue side), one of which is in the top 10 on my home server. I also play with a regularly scheduled group organized on the forums. My global friend list hit the maximum size multiple times back when the limit was 100. I rarely solo.
6) What got you into MMOs?
A bunch of my friends that I played RPGs with started playing this game.
7) What new MMO are you looking forward to?
None. I have only ever played this MMO and have no plans to play, or even try, any other. -
Quote:NOTHING tanks like a stone tank using Granite. NOTHING.He's only level 12 so far, though and I'm curious - how will he compare with the upper level tanks when he gets there? With no tier 9 power to speak of, can he tank with the likes of Stone, Shield or Invulnerability?
Having said that, each armor set has strong points and weak points. I would say the main weak point of WP is single enemies (i.e. AVs and GMs). Your regen boost is minimal when facing a single enemy. On the other hand, regen works equally well against all damage types so you have no defensive 'hole'.
I've taken invuln, WP and shield to level 50. Each is extremely tough at high level. For 'general purpose' tanking, each is outstanding. In various 'edge cases' or 'extreme situations', each will outperform the other two.
BTW, the IO priority for WP (in my opinion) is more hit points. You can be at the HP cap (3212 HP) 100% of the time without much work/expense. My WP tank is about 40 HP short of the cap. Definitely get all the HP-boosting accolades. -
Quote:Yes, *BUT*:So if you're looking to increase the damage that your aura does, plain old damage SOs/IOs are just as effective as procs, and are far cheaper. Additionally, they increase damage for each pulse instead of procing once every ten seconds, and they don't rely on a percentage chance to go off, so they're more reliable.
1) Once you hit ED limits, adding more damage enhancements is pointless. Procs will still add more damage, ignoring ED.
2) Some of your auras do no damage at all, but can still take procs that inflict damage.
My dark armor tank has 3 damage procs slotted. -
Quote:I think these two items might be at your end or something to do with your connection. It responds instantly for me.-Way too laggy and slow. When I enter a name for search, it takes up to 4 seconds after I finish typing for the word to apper. Argh, annoying beyond belief.
-Bidding is very unresponsive. Enter the price, click bid. Umm did it bid? I guess not. Click again. Oh now I'm bidding for two items. Arrgh.
I use this feature constantly. It should be an OPTION.Quote:-Autofilling the price. Why?! I have never put two items up for sale in row that had the same price. It just causes mistakes. Remove it now.
It does this outside of the auction house also. These items are flat-out bugged.Quote:-Can't filter searches by clicking the categories.
-Asking me every single time if I really want to sell some white salvage is annoying. Make it an option that sticks.
-Asking me every single time if I really want to sell an expensive item is annoying too. Make it an option that sticks. Yeah I know there's a toggle for that but the game forgets it if you log out. -
I don't think this is true. I think that describes a minority of the players - people who will run the same content over and over because it's 'efficient'.
