Psionic defense/resistance IO Sets

I recently got two pieces of Impervium Salvage, one of which I sold for a considerable sum. I'm currently leveling an Invulnerable/Dark Melee tank (Legendary Alien).

As many of you know, the only REAL hole in Invulnerability's resists/defense is psionics. I'm not really interested in building a "high-dollar" build. The only thing I'm really interested in doing with this build is plugging the psionics hole, at least in part, and without having to invest TONS of influence, if that is possible.

So...that is the question. Can this be done? I've got about 5 million influence so far (The build is at level 18.) Shoring up psionics defense/resistance I don't see as a necessity until I hit level 40....so I've got time to build up some excess influence if I need it. What sets do I need to purchase and what salvage will I need, and what is the earliest level that I can pick up worthwhile sets?

Thanks for the help.

My opinion: the amount of psi defense or resist that you can get, when starting from zero, is really pathetic. Instead, build on your strength and get set bonuses to boost your regeneration. My invuln has +300% regen and you can do this cheap, since regen is the first bonus. Two from this set, two from that set, etc.

Off the top of my head:

Impervium Armor has a +3% Psi Resist as part of the set and 3.13% Psi resist as the sixth set bonus.

Aegis has a Psi Resist/Status Resist that gives 3% Psi resist and does not incur Rule of Five when stacked with the Impervium Armor Psi Resists.

Crushing Impact has 2.5% Psi Resist when six-slotted.

There's more but those are the ones I generally use. Combined with +Regen and perma-Dull Pain that's usually sufficient. If you can get the Psi protection accolade from the Rikti invasion badges, I've used that to solo Carnie bosses without trouble.

This.

Finding pure psi damage in the game is actually fairly uncommon. Bumping your other defenses will help mitigate more mixed-psi damage than the pitiful amounts of resistance from these sets will. Additionally, it won't gimp your build.

Yes it can.

My Inv/ Tank has one full set of Impervium Armor, a total of 4 Impervium +3% Psi Res slotted, 2 full sets of Crushing Impact and The Aegis Unique; for a grand total of 23.13% Psi Res. (I also have a partial of Impervium Armor, that I could make a full set if I really wanted for 26.25%)

Psi Defense is tougher to do, then just isn't a lot of it. The 2 Imperivum set grant be 3.75% between them, and Steadfast Protection Res/Def another 3%. It's only 6.75% total, but better than 0%. Any other Psi def you could get with Maneuvers, Weave or any pool power that grants def.

Elusive Mind. Yeah, it stacks nicely with even lowish levels of defense and resistance, for a short burst anyway.

I will note that I seldom experience any detectable performance hit from psi-heavy enemies on my main Invulnerability Tanker, who only has about 13% defense to Psi (mostly through pool powers, iirc). Possibly because so many psi attacks have a positional component, maybe? My positional defenses aren't soft-capped but they're comfortable. At any rate, I wouldn't sweat bullets over building to protect against psi.

just avoid carnie missions and you should be mostly fine. Arachnos also has alot of psi in it, but stretching your build to accommodate for a mere 23% psi resistance doesn't seem like a good idea. You could instead focus on s/l/e/n defense bonuses and make yourself practically invulnerable to everything but toxic/psi.

I am an ebil markeeter and will steal your moneiz ...correction stole your moneiz. I support keeping the poor down because it is impossible to make moneiz in this game.

I like the Impervium Armor set not just for the Psi defenses, but the Recovery and Endurance bonuses as well.

In total my main build has 17% Psi Defense and 30% Resistance from bonuses, which is nice. Psi Bosses used to be an issue, but aren't anymore.

The Vanguard Psionic Shield is also worth getting.

Its 100 Vanguard Merits to buy for a 30 minute charge, so you can probably earn it from a single Mothership Raid.

Stacking that and Elusive Mind (or a medium purple) will cap your Psi defence.

One of my SG members was asking pretty much the same thing.
The following build is about the most we could come up with to plug the Psi weakness.

In order to do this you will;

A) Spend ALOT more than 5 million Influence
B) Sacrifice the ability to soft-cap Energy/Negative

Since I have not played Invulnerability past the teens yet, I cannot really tell you which is better from personal experience, but many of the Vets here will tell you to focus on S/L/E/N
and then get as much Fire/Cold/Psi as you can without sacrificing the former.

I do like the suggestion above of getting your regen as high as possible. That could help out considerably.

Thanks for the responses guys. I may go the regeneration route. I've taken two tanks to level 50 in the past. The first was an Invulnerable/Super-Strength build, the second was a Willpower/Super-Strength build. The Willpower build had far less trouble with the Clockwork King and Ring Mistresses than did the Invulnerable build....yet I like the resists inherent in Invulnerability, and the debuffs and holds in Dark Melee. Hence the desire to level up a new build with SOME psionic defense/resistance.

I'll save up my influence and start picking up IO sets after level 30.
