Muscle domination. Not sure if it is the correct term thought.
You don't hurt your enemy with your strength or elements. Instead, you immobilize or force your enemy to hurt himself, by controlling his muscles. I've seen that in an old Omen movie.

Some ideas: trip (knockdown, chance for minor damage), rush into wall (short stun, moderate damage), finger bend (hold, minor DoT), alien hand (punch an ally), self-strangle (hold, moderate DoT)
  2. Well, I usually play for teaming. When I solo, I am always polite to people who ask. For instance, if they ask me to join a TF I don't have time for, I thank them for asking me and wish them good luck. If someone ask me when I write for an AE arc, I just reply that I work on an AE arc, describe it briefly and suggest that we can team later.

In addition, I set the lfg flag properly, and describe my current gaming preference in my team search field, ie "Prefer TF, SFAE or Trials", "anything goes", "working on AE arc", "tip missions, feel free to join", "solo atm" etc.

This have worked fine to me all the time.
  3. Preparing for the introduction of Street Justice to AE, I started to make a short arc (two or three missions) inspired by the classic beat'em up genre.
The plot is quite simple: an criminal organization known as Deadly Dragon is roaming the streets and spread mayhem. They are now organizing a fighting championship known as "the World Warrior". The only chance to limit the influence of the organization is to win the championship, but the competition is tough.

My question to you is if you have any ideas of subplots and dialogs that would spice up such arc. Subtle references to well-known games and movies would be good too. My point of view is that many players appreciate a story better if they have something to relate it with, regardless if it is complex or simple.
  4. I plan to develop my OOC toon to match some IC abilities.
To start with, I'm gonna learn all dance moves from the game, basic ones and the booster pack ones.
Second is tougher, it is doing 60 push-ups in a minute, as I measured the rate of /em pushup. I can do 44 in a minute, so I need to improve my recharge rate by ~36%. Like a SO
Doing /em flip IRL would be cool too, this would require increased jump, which also match the game.

That's my thoughts too, I actually want to make an old school beat'em up arc, reusing story ideas I had at that times

    Death Emotes

I want it too. I have dedicated one costume slot of most my characters for the "defeat state", which usually contain shredded clothes, lividity of the extremities (skin/blend with black or dark purple do the trick) and the slime area tinted red. I have bind F12 to change to the defeated slot, and switch back to a non-defeated slot as soon as possible when I wake up.
As death emotes, I would like to have ragdoll physics, explosion, carnie-style defeat, death spasms and being raptured into the sky.

I would happily pay lots of paragon points for a more muscular arm for female toons.
  8. I'm in favor of temp powers, as it require more team coordination, understanding of the actual trial and strategy.

However, the d/c problem could be solved by automatically having temp powers transfered to random player in the same team (league if team is empty) on d/c.
  9. I support female pets.

I have a merc/poison mm, with neo-con theme. Having one or two of his soldiers female would make his army feel more Western World/American. Regarding look, I'm personally happy with costumes in the same fashion as their male counterparts, with color customization and adding a badge as chest detail. But I wouldn't object if more options are available.
  10. I usually get my pets stuck at Keyes entrance, where neither being teleported nor dismissing and resummoning them works, I had to die and go hosp, which is quite easy for a petless MM.
But in other zones, I have no problems.
  11. Here is a brief summary of my most important reasons:

    * Great character customization, which allow for a great range of styles
    * A great range of powersets
    * Flexible power choices, you can add add in pool powers and ancillaries etc to personalize your character, for instance make it fly, resist more damage or scare enemies.
    * The auction house make the game free-market.
    * Gray shades between true villains and heroes
    * Mission architect
    * Supergroups and base designs
    * Game culture allow casual gamers
    * New contents and possibilities are added often
    * Game lore feel flexible to blend with character biography.
    * Ultra mode looks great and works fine on my laptop
    * The demo files are plain text, and not very complicated, which allow the making of cool machinimas
  12. I agree. It happened for me too, that I did some team with new players, and I started to tell them about my supergroup. They didn't knew what a supergroup was, and was interesting to check it out. The I disappointed them when I had to say "sorry, you must be VIP or Premium to join".

Another idea I had was to allow F2P players to join (not lead) a supergroup, but instead put a level cap at 35 or something. This is analogous to how some social network sites work: everyone has access to social features (which supergroups are), but not all powers. I am however certain that the developers considered that option, and made it like it is for a good reason.
  13. Hi all,

I have a Villaingroup that I want to give to someone else, because I want to focus on the other one, Order of the Dark Sun.

To that end Alliance of Power and Domination on Union Server is up for auction.

    What are you getting?
    • 823K prestige.
    • SG currently only has 1 member (my last toon) so with more alts, you’d get the 20k/member bonus.
    • Four teleporters crafted and installed with beacons available to Mercy, Port Oakes, Cap au Diable, Sharkhead, Nerva, St Martial, Grandville and Pocket D.
    • Both Tier-3 empowerment worktables
    • Salvage bins with 34 bits of common, uncommon and rare salvage.
    • Enhancement Storage bins
    • Inspiration bin
    • Hospital
    Bidding Process:
    • Post only in this thread. PMs won’t be accepted.
    • Bids are in inf only. No bids in real money.
    • Highest bid at the close of the auction (8pm GMT 1th December – 1 week from now) wins.

I generally play GMT times, so we would need to arrange a mutually convenient time to transfer ownership. I would also be happy to hang around and invite your alts if you want a solo group.

Any questions – just ask! Bidding starts at 1 inf!
  14. Well, I made it by creating a .bat file with this content:
    Code:
cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Spel\City of Heroes"
    cityofheroes.exe -screen 1280 1024 -demoplay %1
I guess I can live with the MSDOS prompt popping up and broken file icons in explorer.

    Hope this help someone.
  15. I'm familiar with demo recording.
In the good ol' days of Windows XP, it was quite simple to set up a proper file association to play .cohdemo files by just right-clicking on them. Just open the "open with" dialog, create an action with adding the -playdemo switch to the CoH executable, and perhaps a -screen switch to make it run in a resolution of my choice.

But I can't make it in Windows 7, since they did Paris Hilton the "open with" dialog, and no longer allow me to specify command switches. In addition, it seem like the CoH executable nowadays take the filename without the .cohdemo suffix as input, instead of the full filename with full path. While I can start a CMD.exe in the CoH directory, and just type "cityofheroes.exe -demoplay name_of_demo", I strongly prefer to just right-click the file in explorer and choose "Play at 1280x1024" or whatever I named the action.

So the question is: Can I play .cohdemo files from explorer in Windows 7, as I could in good ol' Windows XP?
  16. Patent Trolling Online - the game engine allow nearly all kind of character design and combination of powers (you can make a 6'9" winged muscular woman in 80s fashion using genetic engineered man-eating corn as primary power if you wish), but other players may have patented something that might look or behave as your concept, and you need to delete your character.

"Sorry, John Doe have patented the concept of magic fireballs, please delete your Godly lvl 50 character or face trial"
  17. I am personally satisfied with the current three builds. I use two builds for some characters, either to cover two level ranges, or to have a toxic widow and psionic widow in one character. Another idea I came up with is to use a completely gimped third build to have a weak version (as an ordinary human being, cursed, crippled, young and inexperienced etc) of the character.

I'm open for letting those who really want more than three builds buy additional slots.
  18. I am a story focused gamer, and care a lot about the story of my toons and AE arcs. Writing text in the in-game text areas is however a pain, and I often need to open my arcs in Notepad++ for editing longer texts.
Here is a list of bugs I've encountered:
    • Line breaks are removed when I paste text from external editors.
    • Writing text is sometimes delayed for several seconds (as using a word processor on a really old computer)
    • Long sections of the text do sometimes vanish.
    • Moving the cursor by arrow keys is slow and unreliable, making fixing typos a pain. It's not uncommon to have text inserted on an unexpected insert point.
  19. What would make me upset to pay for? Nothing, really. Paying for additional content is a good way to support the development of stuff that is requested but difficult to implement, for instance female muscle. I'm also totally fine with pay for convenience, like more recipe and enhancement storage, travel stuff etc.

Well, to be honest, I see some potential problems with pay to win features. The worst scenario is what I call the iPad syndrome:
When there is a strong incentive for (young) people with little sense for money to buy wast quantities of something, for instance xp, inf, some temporary powers.

Another bad scenario is if pvp encounters are followed by debates regarding if someone paid for more power.
  20. Thanks for your swift responses, I'll go for science.
  21. I came up with a character idea for a SS/Fire brute, which to me appear to be in the cross section of natural, science and tech. Character is born as a natural human with natural parents. His abilities is a combination of intensive training, steroids and intramuscular oil injections (think Greg Valentino). The oils are various back alley blends of cooking oil, motor oil and crude oil. The blends have no scientific proven effect (probably not even mad scientific), but just works in his case. He is a result of experiments by some sort of back alley Dr Mengele.
His fire abilities are because of combustion of injected hydrocarbons.
  22. Challenge to me mean that careless playing equals defeat, and success usually need attention and readiness to switch tactics. The difficulty settings for this is much higher for my softcaped brute Lenina than soloing with my healing optimized corruptor Trisenox.

Example of good challenges include pvp, keeping a big team alive with a healer, when I need to keep perfect control of my mastermind pets as a Starcraft gamer and when I sometimes have to retreat as a melee.
  23. I'm glad you like my plot I'm online as Lenina atm, usually online around this time. Hope to see ya in game soon.
