I do not know if the last patch was supposed to "fix" the lag issue but still going strong.
Last night I had 8000 ping on Freedom, which I was playing because the rubberbanding and mapservering on Virtue was unplayable.
Switched back to Virtue and more rubberbanding but my ping was back to 260ish which is normal for me.
Played on Virtue this morning and rubberbanding and now a new thing power delays!
Before you ask:
I normally run at next to the lowest with 60-90fps on /showfpa 1
I connect with a Verizon UM190 aircard because I live in the country and run 4-5 bars in a 3g area.
nVidia 9800GT video card
Raptor hard drive
2mb Crucial ram
All new drivers to EVERYTHING!
Windows XP service pack 3
All processes except required disabled or on manual.
Yes, the system played absolutely fine until i17.
The day it went live was the day is started.
If I run a TF I will crash out of the game at least 4 times on average.
Last TF ALL eight of us crashed out at least once.
Are we going to see a Red name address this? I know Castle said a fix was on Test - did they apply the Fix? Are we supposed to guess?
Door to Cimerora still broken
All staff weapons have broken animations
Power Delays
Rubberbanding
After 6 years this is the worst I have seen since Issue 2.
I am NOT alone. Login to Freedom or Virtue and in Broadcast ask if people are getting rubberbanding, power lag or mapservers. Yes, they are. -
An AoE hold?
To partially quote a famous person - They should be running now......
Seriously with Darkest night to gather them, Tarpit to slow them, Howling Twilight to stun them, Fear to make them tremble in terror of their impending DOOM!, Rain of Fire/Fireball/fire breath to kill them. Let's also throw in my Dark servant to heal me and with a +2 mag hold freeze them and a Fortuna as a pet to shred whatever is left.............
Why would I pause to immobilize them?
My only enemy is the Lag Cannon. -
Power 1. I win button it transforms you into a Fire/Dark corr.
No other powers in set. -
Dark/Ice hands down.
Darkest night + Tarpit + howling Twilight + Snow storm + Blizzard = everything is dead. -
Super speed and "paint" an Lt of boss with Darkest Night (I slot my Darkest Night with 2 Range) then run up near the next group pause a second for those behind to catch up some - then zip past the next group and hide around a corner and drop tarpit.
Soon as they are on the tar - Rain of Fire, Fireball and firebreath. Blaze the boss/Lt and its over.
I run +2 x 8 solo. -
In the old days of Issue 4 - I was on my Fire tank and the SG has an AV that was slaughtering them.
The invite goes out to me and they all cheer as I roll into the mission. One of my friends say Infernus will show us how its done! I hit taunt and instantly die as I forgot to turn on my shields.
Silence. -
I use my Fire/Dark as a tank.
To do so Super speed is VERY helpful. I can zip in drop Darkest night as I kite past and....IT DOES NOT SUPRESS SS OR STEALTH! I farm the wall most days pulling 3 or so groups and just melt them.
Now I took Ghost Widow as my patron to get the second pet as the Fortuna.
Take rain of fire, fireball early and slot them up quick! I always take all Dark and Fire powers until 20 - swap builds and rebuild with Stamina. I did not build completely a Suichiro Corr - I went slightly more with +damage and end recovery.
I would HIGHLY advise getting the +2 magnitude pets hold proc for Dark Servant - I routinely have him one hold bosses and even AV's when stacked with howling twilight.
My gameplay - if in a group with melee - I tell the brute to grab aggro and I will bring more to him. I drop tarpit and zip past the first group, paint darkest night on the 3rd group and slowly head back to the tarpit. I drop out of LOS (line of sight) until they hit the tar. I then use Fear and howling twilight to debuff the snot out of them. Rain of fire, fire ball and blaze on the boss.
I then drop darkest night zip forward and paint the next 2nd group running back to the brute drop tarpit and repeat. After a couple of groups everyone starts to get whats happening and it becomes a steamroller.
I have tanked Rom on my corr when the Fire tank died to the stun. I was able to both freeze Rom debuff him in the tar and seperate the Nictus (I took provoke). We were able to take him down while the tank for some reason hospitaled it. -
I have been playing since yesterday on a new Rad/Mental blaster and the synergy is awesome.
The -def of Rad and the -recharge of Mental in combination of the several AoE's is dramatic. While only level 11 at the moment I have been running at this low level at 0 x 5 enemies in missions.
Looking through the powers it shows a great mix of damage and debuffs/buffs. -
Fire/dark hands down.
Tarpit - slows and -resistance
Howling twilight stuns and slows
Darkest night - to hit
Fear - a large cone of -to hit
Dark Servant
Shadowfall - armor and stealth
Rain of fire - slows
Tons of AoE attacks
I have a corr Disciple of Burn who can easily tank the ITF and can just stand in front of Romulous and the Nictus unfazed. I even took Provoke.
Solo he runs +2 x 8
In any team, nothing lives long enough to be a threat.
The attack chain - darkest night, go to a corner drop tarpit, step out and fear them and they all stop. Now howling twilight and they stagger in a small circle - light them up. -
To answer your question Yes a D4 can act as a tank.
I have tanked successfully with no deaths an ITF with Zero melee on the teams and using Darkest Night/Tarpit/Howling Twilight to gather them up and Fearsome Stare to debuff.
I also take the Presence Pool and take Provoke and all of the group fear powers.
You can become nigh unkillable. Solo I can just stand in front of most AV's and while I can't kill them they can't hurt me much either. -
Hey Ace!
I am not really that bitter just disappointed. Our group got all the way thru to the end and had 2 kins defs, 2 blasters, 1 scrapper and me. I thought the mix was fair was a bit worried about Reischman - but no idea he would smoke me like a cheap cigar.
I guess it just is makes me sad when I can't do my job. Lets face it on that team - my damage was a joke. The blasters and scrapepr with SB x 2 were just non-stop nukes and destruction. My simple job was alpha soaker and pushing up daisies almost instantly 2 in a row was really disheartening.
I do have the normal tank build:
Fire shield
Plasma Shield
Acro
Combat jump slotted for def
Tough
I also take the Ice pool and slot the snot out of them for the -regen with IO's.
I know you can do wonderful things with IO's - however I recall someone called Dev saying the mobs are not made tougher due to IO's and that normal SO are playable - except when they are not.
If I had a bubbler yes I could have equaled a Stoner - however it seems sad when an AV has been so buffed as to make a mockery of the tankers. -
So, our team heads into the final room and the Reischman TF.
We buff up, I pop a magic Jalapeno and Tijuana Chili my Fire/Fire tank taunts.........and is 2 shotted.
So I get up pop another pepper take 2 LARGE purples and taunt again............and get 2 shotted. This is a fire tank with tough.
I give up. Starting a willpower tank or stone tomorrow. This guy is on the scrap heap when do Fire tanks........get to be tanks? -
I did feel the need to make a reply to you Venture after I saw your review in your last thread on Arc #175675, "A Princess of Mars"
When making a tribute capturing the atmosphere of the stories is what I seek. I have had many, many, many people tell me it was the most FUN AE they have played.
You disliked it.
I accept that. Understand the complete story with full writing and custom Zodangan army was 154.98% - So at that stage I decided to cut to the bone everything except the Green Warriors and the main custom characters.
The finished story was 99.97%
There was no way to add anything further. To do so would have required cutting the Green Warriors. That I would not do.
The arc is best played with a full team. It is auto 50 so you can have anyone you like on your team. The feeling of the green hordes crashing into you is what I sought.
Unfortunately the Zodangan army is the victim and as you have pointed out the writing as there was not room left for even one more word.
Don't take my word for what I say look at what I signed onto today:

[Tell] 2009-07-03 23: 32:54 Message From @Flayme : Feedback on Architect Mission A Princess of Mars: An excellent tribute to an excellent series, well done
People I don't know and who have FUN.
Fun is my goal as no one in history will ever confuse Edgar Rice Burroughs with Shakespeare or Bronte. But damn that guy told a FUN story -
Dark/Ice
Look up the thread below for builds for a Dark/Ice defender.
I explain what I take and how I use it.
Dark and Ice have an awesome synergy. Slows, -recharge, -to-hit and I also add the Presence Pool. Provoke, Single target Fear and the Invoke Panic added to your regular fear power once IO'd out make you able to do incredible things.
I have had tanks quit the team saying - you don't need me. Happened last night and we replaced him with a blaster. I actually like to have a tank on the team - I let him get the first group and I bring 2 more back to the team. Some get offended, when really if they just went with it everyone benefits. -
Illusion/Sonic never solo's you have a 5 man team all of the time
In all honesty - I rarely play mine any more unless we hit a really tough mission - then I log him on.
My Illusion/Sonic has died, ONCE.
You have shields. You can turn your entire TEAM into Fire tanks and you add 4 extra blasters to the team. You have a nuke that doesn't drain your end away.
If there is an I win button in CoH its Ill/Sonic. -
The tanking defender:
Dark/Ice
In game play the basic Idea is to use Darkest Night to debuff (slot 3 to hit debuff, 2 range and Dark watcher despair 20% chance for recharge slow)
Then to drop tarpit (3 recharge 1 slow and pacing of the turtle 20% chance of recharge slow)
Once on the Tarpit use Fearsome stare (1 acc, 3 to-hit debuff)
Now Howling twilight (3 recharge - 3 disorient)
Heal from the Bosses as your heal also debuffs accuracy.
You now have:
Their accuracy at ~5%
You have all but the bosses disoriented, slowed, resistance dropped and even an AV gets his recharge seriously dropped so he can't heal.
Shadow fall is running with 2 defense and 2 resistance + 1 red end.
Then you get Mean.
Drop Ice storm to slow them to a standstill.
Frostbreath if you feel like it.
Once you get Blizzard, its over.
I usually take the Presence pool so I have Provoke and Invoke Panic on top of your Fearsome Stare. Take the Ice pool to boost your defense and you will only carry Blues and Break frees in your tray.
I tanked the entire ITF with no deaths with Blasters, Controllers and Corrupters and no tanks or melee.
The time 1:11
The team thought I was absolutely nuts until they saw the first mission. Then it was ok, but what about the AVs?
The computer was a joke.
The two after the valley of the shadow of lag were dead in seconds.
The team was like well ok again, but what about the Big guy!
Remember 40% chance of recharge slow - EVERY tick?
Remember Ice powers all have recharge slow?
-
Sonic/Ice.
Try it a while
Look over the powers and think of what they can do stacked together.
2 sleeps. Multiple holds. AoE's.
You are a controller with blaster damage. You CAN solo most 8 man groups. Sleep x2 and Howl. Sleep. Aoe and sleep again. Seriously you can singlehandedly stop that extra group that tries to join. -
Whoa, great shooting Tex!
-
It depends,
I build my dark/ice as a tank.
She is very easily solo capable and in team we buzzsaw thru everything. If you want to amaze people and do crazy things with a defender like tank the entire ITF.
I can help you with a build and tactics. -
I am not going into a debate about farming. I don't care what people do to go from 1-50.
I do however like to have FUN.
If you are on Virtue and prefer to walk the stage that people have set in the AE world or to run regular mission arcs, Tf's or just have FUN, look me up on almost any night.
I play evenings from usually 6:30 pm to 9ish EST (except during the Stanley cup).
My characters:
Mab Queen of Winter 46
Aurora Summer Queen 36
Tijuana Chili 46
Thwak 49
Wise Wolf 50
Mystic Rime 12
and some others
or @Iron in game. I will always play other people's non-farm arcs and generally have fun.
Again not looking for drama or debate - looking for others who enjoy the telling of stories. -
If you get time Bubbawheat
Arc 175675 A Princess of Mars
Far more fun if run with a full team then you get the full effect of the Green Warrior hordes. -
175675 - A Princess of Mars
A tale of Barsoom. If John Carter of Mars was one of your heroes growing up, then this is for you.
It's an Auto 50 mission - I highly recommend a full team so you get the feeling of the Green Warrior hordes attacking.
I did have to use Cimerorian Traitors in the last mission as my custom Zodangan army made it too large.
The Mars books (some of them) are now public domain! They can be found online.

Sounds like an old TF idea I submitted back several years ago.
I suggested gathering all of the 4 treasures of the Tuatha De Danaan and having them be temp powers.
I will take a look at this later! -
This was a fun arc. I did it on my Dark/Ice defender and found it to be entertaining.
I gave it 5 stars and liked it. -
Will run this later tonight or tomorrow morning.
My review is simple - was it fun or not
