Does anyone have a Dark/Ice build they could post?
This isn't what I'm using on live right now, and I don't have the sets right, but I was going for a lot of the cheaper sets instead of set bonuses on a lot of powers. I only went with one hold, after debuffing to hit on bosses I tend to just hold lieutenants. I have fair resistances that stack well with a sonic or a thermal. The AoE damage isn't great but it does take the edge off. I like having the immob from the APP, that's part of my single target attack chain and combines with the to hit debuffs nicely. On live I have Blizzard, but it doesn't match my play style, I really don't need it to solo and I dislike the end crash on teams. Because I only use it when my end is getting low anyways, I plan to get power sink back.
This is a build I would very much enjoy more slots for, and a bigger bank acocunt, either way it's pretty effective even with SOs.

Solid build, but no Blizzard? Def rain powers are blaster level--there's no way I'd skip Ice Storm or Blizzard on my */Ice defender (I take Aim & PBU to leverage those 2 powers too). Frost Breath is really iffy tho--love it on my blaster, skip it on my defender.
Pet Gaze is really nice to stack on top of Freeze Ray, though it's a bit of a tossup bet. it and Bitter Freeze Ray, since PG animates faster, but has a shorter duration and does no damage. Either way, I'd definitely take a 2nd hold in addition to Freeze Ray.
An Offensive Guide to Ice Melee
I have Blizzard right now, I just know that I often only use it once or twice a TF. When teams move slowly I use it more often but the end crash annoys me to no end. That's more of a play style choice than anything against Blizzard.
Frost Breath is used a lot more solo than on teams, when I can take a second to line up the cone, when you hit 3 minions with it, it reduces the amount of time it takes to defeat a spawn. Chances are if there was another attack available before 28 I'd have that instead.

I like frost breath because I can line up the group with fearsome stare..close in frost breath...get in closer and use sands of mu (vet attack) basically three cones...

I really only had 1 goal when I set up the sets. 75% Resistance to PSI damage.
Psi damage now tickles her. Seriously. I have yet to find a PSI using enemy that made me run.
Now I don't recall fighting Mother Mayhem or Mailaise with her, but Rikti and Psychic Clockwork King were laughed off.
But again, that was my only goal for planning her build. All other bonuses are just a by product of that.
I also find having 3 single target holds that are up pretty often to be a nice asset when on AV teams/TF.
I skipped Blizzard because of the END Drain attached to it.

This is the level up build I have. I don't have the set I/Os hammered out yet but you can count on Glimpse eventually in Fearsome Stare - five slotted. 95% recharge in tar patch and howling twilight with any slows or stun I can spare. Dark Servant is a lock for 6 slots, probably all dampened spirits. It's a lot tougher getting cash/merits hero side for defender blasts. Of course I/O slotting will nod to +acc bonuses.
I have played ice blast to level 50 on an Ice/Cold corruptor, and two masterminds to level 50 of the /dark variety and a Fire/Dark stalled in the mid-40s. The methodology to my madness on this defender was to take dark clicks before stamina and the toggles after. I think it worked better than I expected. I didn't struggle with endurance on this one nearly as much.
Another thing to note: I took superspeed at level 6 and hasten at level 14, but mids doesn't handle 60 month vets yet.

HelinCarnate:OMG it is so terrible. I have the option to take 3 more powers but no additional slots. Boo F'ing hoo.
It depends,
I build my dark/ice as a tank.
She is very easily solo capable and in team we buzzsaw thru everything. If you want to amaze people and do crazy things with a defender like tank the entire ITF.
I can help you with a build and tactics.
A Dark/Ice Def tank build is what I had been looking for. Its been like 4 months since I played and I wanted to jump on my lvl 2 Def. I figured that's a good enough work out for me lol. What I am more familiar wit Dark.. but not so much on Ice. Build advice would be great.
Thank you everyone for your various insights, opinions and build postings! It's all quite helpful!
(I need to copy and print this thread so I don't lose it when the boards move!)
Infernus_Hades, you've piqued my interest with your talk of a tanky-type build...would you be able to elaborate on that, and/ or post a build?
Again, thanks so much everyone! Feel free to post any other ideas you have!
Well, i recently leveled my Dark/Ice to 27 and i'm already thinking about setting up my secondary build for Hamidon raids. The emphasis will be on single target attacks, holds, leadership, healing, debuffs, teleportation and hover.
i'll have to set up my standard build in Mids' at some point, but i'll probably wait until i decide to respec into the build i've been mulling in my head. (i usually plan out builds while playing the character for a few dozen levels and then put it into Mids' to check details.) All the builds i design are leveling builds, that is they're designed as if i was playing the build from level 1 up. It makes for better exemping effectiveness when doing things like Ouroboros, early task forces and helping with low level content.
Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...
I would skip the 3 hold's (you've got enough control) and at least 3 slot Howling Twilight (focusing on rech first and end reduction second)..
perma jump is ---> /up 1
The tanking defender:
Dark/Ice
In game play the basic Idea is to use Darkest Night to debuff (slot 3 to hit debuff, 2 range and Dark watcher despair 20% chance for recharge slow)
Then to drop tarpit (3 recharge 1 slow and pacing of the turtle 20% chance of recharge slow)
Once on the Tarpit use Fearsome stare (1 acc, 3 to-hit debuff)
Now Howling twilight (3 recharge - 3 disorient)
Heal from the Bosses as your heal also debuffs accuracy.
You now have:
Their accuracy at ~5%
You have all but the bosses disoriented, slowed, resistance dropped and even an AV gets his recharge seriously dropped so he can't heal.
Shadow fall is running with 2 defense and 2 resistance + 1 red end.
Then you get Mean.
Drop Ice storm to slow them to a standstill.
Frostbreath if you feel like it.
Once you get Blizzard, its over.
I usually take the Presence pool so I have Provoke and Invoke Panic on top of your Fearsome Stare. Take the Ice pool to boost your defense and you will only carry Blues and Break frees in your tray.
I tanked the entire ITF with no deaths with Blasters, Controllers and Corrupters and no tanks or melee.
The time 1:11
The team thought I was absolutely nuts until they saw the first mission. Then it was ok, but what about the AVs?
The computer was a joke.
The two after the valley of the shadow of lag were dead in seconds.
The team was like well ok again, but what about the Big guy!
Remember 40% chance of recharge slow - EVERY tick?
Remember Ice powers all have recharge slow?

Hello all!
I'm working well on my Dark/Ice Defender....just got to 13 - loving it so far! I was wondering if anyone had builds they could post, and maybe some thoughts why they may have taken/left out/slotted various powers the ways they did?
I'd love to see some people's ideas, and see if they inspire me towards any certain build or not.
Thanks very much!
