If I'm around, I'd be happy to help out on any such iTrials.
  4. I am looking forward to seeing everyone.
I am going to try to make it to Schaub's for lunch on Friday but I'm not positive I will get there in time.
  5. I've been wanting to chime in on this thread for a while. Both sides do have their points and I thought I'd add my perspective.

    1) I try to be as inclusive as I can when leading iTrials. We are a smaller population here but we have plenty of capable and willing leadership for all game content. I have a great deal of respect for all who try to lead the iTrials, organize events, or lead task forces. It's often a thankless job that results in criticism when things don't go well.

    2) I am far more tolerant of lesser shifted/tiered alts running iTrials with players I'm not familiar with (or those that run all the time carrying the load). I say "not familiar with" because I automatically assume they are more limited in their ability to participate in iTrials.

    3) Being inclusive is more difficult with the harder iTrials. It is hard for me to judge where that minimum bar is for a viable league on a DD, TPN or a MoM. No one has called me on it, but I have led iTrials that failed because I was inclusive of lower or unshifted alts. For those runs I still feel guilty for letting the league down. For myself I'm almost always going to be inclusive even at the risk of reducing our margin of error.

I want to point out that I have led iTrials that have succeeded only because the league was well shifted also. Of particular note were Underground Trials when it was newer. Things went awry against the War Walkers on a couple occasions and against the Avatar in others. As time ran out, it was only because the league had the firepower to completely reverse the tide that such runs did not fail.

    4) I am admittedly fortunate when leading though. People that I play with bring the +3s without being asked and they tend to listen to my instructions; for that I'm very grateful. It's a luxury. When it comes to mainly Lambda and to a lesser degree BAF I tell everyone to bring whatever they want. We can carry a league if I and a couple others are on a +3 with Tier 4 Lore, (Flat 50s are always welcome). BAF and Keyes are a bit trickier imo, but flat 50s are okay assuming we have the firepower/balance to get it done which may or may not be easy to judge.

    5) Although there is the new DA to level in, I'm less of the mind that people should level there before joining in the harder iTrials. They should be able to do so through the easier iTrials. If they are limited on time/access, then by all means join in even the harder iTrials. We'll do our best to bring enough firepower to succeed but it will harder with a greater risk of failure.

    6) "Blame Impyre" is there for two purposes. I don't like finger pointing and it helps people relax/have more fun if they know they won't be blamed. It's a bit of a joke, but I started using it on MSTF runs because it made some laugh and reduced stress for others.

TL, DR: everyone just needs to respect the other side's views and concerns. Bring stronger alts to the harder iTrials if available. I can't speak for other leads, but with me DON'T exclude yourself from the harder iTrials if you're limited by time or opportunity.
  6. Ideas for build stolen from the builds of others
    Notes:
It's not soft capped but tries to be true to your build in power choices.
Fly is now speed capped at 50 so End Reduction is all that needs to be slotted. I'm not positive if the Flight speed in Swift is needed or not.
I took some liberties with Fire Sword Circle.
The boxing slotting is for the set bonuses, not for use.

  7. Here's a build that is based on a high budget build by Frosticus. My build is similar to this.

IMO the important things for your build are:

    1) skip Time Bomb
    2) slot a Devastation: Chance for Hold in Acid Mortar
    3) slot a Lockdown: Chance for Hold in Poison Trap
    4) drop Concealment and slot a Stealth IO in Sprint instead. Unbound Leap tends to be cheaper than Celerity.

  8. A few months ago I started playing my BS/Regen again with a budget minded build. This is an interpretation of that build modified with some ideas stolen from Werner's thread, (fantastic thread, btw). The build is without Shadow Meld, but that can be swapped in for Tactics/Vengeance, (I've found Vengeance helpful on the trials). If you don't have LoTG +7.5%, they can be upgrades for later. Slotting Lotus Drops and Flashing Steel with Eradication would improve Ranged/AoE and should still have Melee softcapped with 1x Divine Avalanche. If you leave out the 7.5s, it's a relatively cheap build.

  9. Currently I'm working on a EA/SS though I am going the S/L route, I think your last build is a good budget minded concept which I've revised in hopes of giving you additional ideas; not to be the final word by any means. I have a War Mace brute so I'm familiar with that set.

One comment on your build is to remember that half of Mids Stealth's defense value is suppressed in combat.

If you want to keep Stealth in the build, you can drop 2 slots from Taunt and swap out Physical Perfection. If you want more offense from Crowd Control, you can slot 5x Obliteration plus a Force Feedback proc.

It's a matter of preference but I don't think you need to softcap this builds defenses to be effective. Having a good tray of inspirations will go a long way with this build. A Luck will put you just under soft cap; A Good Luck will give you decent cushion against defense debuffs.

We had a massive turnout last Thursday for MoLGTF. It was my intention to run just 2 teams but we had a volunteer to lead a 3rd team for which I was grateful. I'd like to thank everyone for their interest and patience as we get this "Master of" together.

Of the three teams two had trouble with mini-Hami, (I'll take the blame as always ), while the 3rd managed to pull off a victory. That team ran at a very leisurely pace, clocking in around 1:45 or so, off the top of my head. I was a bit surprised that the rest of the team earned their MoLGTF badges on this run. I've only had the badge a week or two prior to this run from a practice run we made.

    The badge earners were:
    Jessie Purr
    Ici Cold
    Obsidian Star
    Dante of Torm
    Dawnrazor
    Karnovia Talonhawk
    Psytanium

    Congrats again to the team.

As a template, subject to change, this is how we handled the mini-Hami encounter. We started by drawing yellow mito agro onto the rikti. Once we had a distraction, the melee dropped the yellow mitos, staying at the very edge of the jello. Once all the yellow mitos were down, we had the ranged team drop the blues from the edge of the jello, as far away from Hami as possible. We had a couple of scares here as a couple of people were slow to retreat during this phase. Once the blues were down, we cleared the rest of the rikti and the pylons (Hopefully I'm remembering the order correctly). With just Hami and the green mitos remaining, I used EoEs while taunting Hami as the team took down the greens and then Hami. Suggestions for improvements to your team leads are welcome, but one key, as always is to make sure the entire team understands the strategy and what they should be doing and where they shouldn't be.

The plan for tonight is to return to regular MSTF run(s). We'll get back to MLGTF on December 2nd and decide how and when to integrate other Task Forces thereafter. Who knows, we may have i19 live and Alpha slots by then.

    MSTF

With the rarity of CoP runs lately I made it a point not to recruit in STF Masters nor other globals until their 3 teams were filled. We still managed to field two teams.

Onry’s team sped through their run at a far higher pace than my team. They had the Inner Circle down when we had yet to get to Aeon in the prior mission. They ended up completing their run when our team was just starting our first Inner Circle AV. We were also being a bit more careful since Zues does not have taunt in his build.

Two wins last Thursday; perhaps I should post about our failed runs more often. =P

I don’t have a roster for Team 75, but those earning MSTF badges were:
    *Onyx-5 grs1
    *Saeko
    *Charm Prey
    *Juicy’Fruit

    Team 74
    Doc Jen
    *Lady Illusio
    *Grisly Grizzly
    Impyre Jr.
    *Ms. Mind Over Matter
    *Paratus
    Angel Jessie
    Zues-Tank

    *MSTF earned

    Congratulations everyone.

“Programming Change”, beginning in November we will be adding other “Master of” to our schedule. Currently the plan is to have the first Thursday of each month as Mo of something else day. To be honest Barracuda/Reichsman are not among my favorites to say the least. As a result I don’t know either of those very well. I am familiar and comfortable with ITF/LGTF compared to the others.

I presently have just one concern with these runs and that is in regards to participation by the team. Along the lines of minimizing risk there are missions that are safer/faster to have the team minimally involved. I haven’t decided how to handle those missions and I’d like some feedback. Perhaps we’ll run both ways depending on individual teams; let me know how you feel. As most of you that have run MSTF with us should know, I prefer to keep the team involved and to allow the players to bring their preferred alt as much as possible. We usually have plenty willing to alt if there is a need to balance.

We did have two teams run last Thursday and neither one was successful. One team had their first death in the Vine room while the other had one during the pull of Ghost Widow.

We had an unscheduled run last Saturday which ended to a homing bomb from the Flier. (I swear I was nowhere near that bomb when it went off!).

Hope to see you on the boat tonight.

Yeah, it's my fault when it goes wrong.

This past Thursday, Oct 7th, we had enough to run 2 teams that ended up completing their runs in 1:47. One team fell short in the vine room with just 1 vine remaining. Thereafter the team ran more loosely and had some fun, pulling all 4 Inner Circle AVs at once, something we never do on Master runs. They finished with 7 total deaths.

The other team was successful and earned quite a few badges. The team had a lot of +Defense buffs. In hindsight we should have had either the MM or the FF Controller on the other team to spread out that strength. Those earning both Saved the World (for later) and Master's were: FatBaby, Nuclear Winter, Ionic Charge Au and Zero Gravitas. Gizmo the Gopher, Cilicis Scarab, and Gravitation Prey earned their Master's badges.

All the credit goes to the team for playing smart and following instructions.

Congrats to all and here's the team pic.

Congratulations to Manic Sonja, Bounty-Killer, Crimson Mystique, Bubbleshot, Hypnagogia, and Guardian Meatos on MSTF badges plus Saved the World for a few also.

It was a really smooth run clocking in at 1:40. We had tremendous defense buffs with many of the team often in triple digits. Thanks for joining in everyone. Next scheduled run at the usual time next Thursday.

Team pics are also in the usual location but I won't link them since we have screenshots are already posted.
  15. My initial reaction to the low rewards for Cathedral of Pain was that they were low-balling the reward until they could see how we could “break it”. I’m expecting this "nerf" is a step to fix the risk versus reward ratio on CoP.

I'm going to reserve judgment for now.

Hope to see you on a run soon, Vor.

With a little recruiting we had enough to run two teams this past Thursday with a total death count of 1 between the two runs.

I was fortunate enough to lead the team that won. We had a couple of regulars, Phoebe and ConsiderPhlebas, who helped lead and instruct the team. It was a very smooth run with the team following our lead throughout. The only closest call we had was probably overlooked by the rest of the team. Aeon agro'd slightly early and I was watching a cosmic burst lobbed by one of his pets coming my way before I was able to pop my preparatory inspirations and accolade. I chose to be a bit more methodical about the run than usual, doing a few extra preps/clears that we rarely do anymore, including clearing a patch to the Inner Circle so that we had a path to run from multiple AVs. Special thanks to Crimson Cobra for alting from badge toon to help the teams balance.

Thanks again for all the interest from the Protector population and for the support from the regular attendees (especially when you step up to lead other teams); we'll be running again this Thursday as usual.

    Phoebe: Kin/Elec Defender
    Malakai: Elec/Shield Scrapper
    Electric Torch: Elec/Fire Blaster
    Carnada: Bots/FF Mastermind
    Hero Man: BS/SR Scrapper
    Crimson Cobra: Dark/Elec Defender
    ConsiderPhlebas: Emp/Rad Defender
    Impyre: Fire/Fire Tanker

  17. I'd highly suggest the following:

Get volunteers for the key positions of Spike Team lead, Agro Team lead, Ranged Targetter, Hami Tank and support in advance. The more experienced your leads, the better chance you'll have success. I have been on raids that have been affected by the quality of the leads of the teams that are NOT listed above; the quality and experience of those listed will be crucial to your success.

Set up a couple of times during the week to farm EoEs from Monster Island. Things never go as smoothly as one expects and EoEs will help when things get rough; a shortage of EoEs will stop your raid.

I'll try to make the raid but I'm not sure if I'm available. Good Luck with the raid.
  18. Once again, thanks Fulmens.

With Going Rogue live, I had anticipated skipping the first Thursday but I had received a request this past week from Boris that he'd like to run because it would be his last availability for a Thursday night for several months. We had an early turnout with the team filled just before 6pm. The team looked a bit different than any I'd seen before attempting a MSTF but I couldn't quite put my finger on it (sarcasm). We ran at a leisurely place while I made the team's ears bleed with my attempts at humor.

Congratulations to the former villains (Widow, 2 Soldiers, and a Brute): Ghost Prey, Crab Prey, Midnight Renegade, and Corbin Shadow on earning their MSTF badges.

The team was made up of Ghost Prey Corbin Shadow, Midnight Renegade, Crab Prey, back row: Jessie Purr, Boris the Badger, Mystic Fusion, Doc Jen.

First is a very late upload and post for the run back on the 5th of August. Congratulations to Alaza, Tastes Like Chicken, Onyx-5 MysticTroller, and Mage Raijin on MSTF badges. It was the first time Alaza had attempted MSTF with us.

Onyx-5 MysticTroller had been wanting to attempt this for a while and Mage Raijin had mentioned wanting to get the badge before Going Rogue went live.

  21. The GTX 460 is a great board by all accounts. One reviewer, Hardware Canucks, suggests that the 1GB is recommended for monitors 23-24"; the 768GB versions are great for monitors smaller than that.

One of the ATI board partners recently said that the 6xxx series will be released Q1 2011. I agree with je_saist; I expect to see price drops on the ATI boards. I'm using a 5 year old video card now and I'm going to hope for the ATI price drop before I decide which board I'm going to get. Competition is great for the consumer.

If you're on an older card like me, and happen into a Best Buy anytime soon, it wouldn't hurt to see if they have any PNY GTX260s on closeout for $137.xx, Model VCGGTX260CXPB. I've looked locally a month ago and had no luck. There are still reports of people finding them but the supply is drying up. The 260 is an older and does not support DX11.

One note, the Nvidia naming scheme is again a mess. The 460 is a superior board to the previously released 465. Do not confuse the two.

There's an older article about how ATI became competitive with Nvidia again that is a good read: http://www.anandtech.com/show/2679.

As Talbein said it took a while to get everything sorted but it was more than worthwhile with the turnout last night. It's been too long since we've had two teams running let alone having two winning teams on the same night.

Our team started later and took longer, clocking in at 2:25. We had a well balanced but not overpowering team. team pic

    Impyre Jr. (Shield Scrapper)
    Boris the Badger (Stone Tanker)
    Dauphine (Empath Controller)
    Cornelia Pyroborn (Fire Blaster)
    Psi Phyre (Fire Blaster)
    Cupido (Trick Arrow Defender)
    Radiant Starfall (Kinetic Defender)
    Tierne (Radiation Controller)

I set a slower than usual pace in part because we hadn't succeeded in recent runs and because we had 3 members that were feeling the stress of the run. The vets on the team were a steadying influence as always. The high points of the run included a few cysts, (my fault because I forgot to disband the team when a Kheldian alted) and the minor heart attack several members felt when we had the a "Failed" message come on at the 2 hour time limit mark. I was exceptionally long winded on this run so I'm grateful for everyone's patience with me. Hopefully a tidbit or two of information will help them on future runs. I showed them the extreme northern portion, (well above the bottom half of the room), of the Vine room where the AV cheats and can hit someone.

Congratulations go out to Dauphine (I hope you get your hearing back, Boris), Cornelia Pyroborn (you can relax now), Cupido, Tierne and Radiant Starfall. This is the first MSTF badge for Dauphine, Cornelia and Cupido, Tierne and Radiant have earned it on other alt(s).

On a side note, I've been trying to run regular STFs more often. It's going to be less than the past couple weeks, running Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday has been too much. I'll try to get Friday/Weekend runs in but I won't be around much tonight nor tomorrow. Yeti & Oz, when you see me on, feel free to give a shout out for a STF run and I'll do what I can.

Here's an old update first; this is a very late post. Back on the 20th of May we had a team of vets and regulars succeed on a MSTF run.
Sadly I don't remember much about that run at this point. But this is the team:

    Wild Sonja
    Fallen Prey
    Doc Jen
    Angel Jessie
    Hammer Spark
    Mystic Fusion
    Mr. Arizona
    Boris the Bear

Hopefully I'm remembering correctly, Congratulations on MSTF badge goes to Fallen Prey, Hammer spark, and Mr. Arizona.

  25. There is no reason to exclude any AT from a Master run. Each AT needs to be extra careful in certain situations in MSTF, the main ones pertaining to scrappers/melee being:
    1) The unpredictability of Aeon's pet clones (and their powers) means the scrapper (and any other melee) should be using inspirations/buffs to be defense capped and to be near resistance capped. Even then they need to be ready to retreat in a fraction of a seconds notice. Ideally they should be using ranged attacks for that fight.
    2) Against Ghost Widow, Scrappers can melee if agro is managed from range. Depending on the strength of their own aura they may need to turn it off to reduce any chance of stealing agro.
    3) Against Scirocco they, like the tank, need to be prepared should they get hit/affected by both the EM Pulse/end drain and/or the debuff.
    4) If you end up fighting multiple Inner Circle, melee need to be careful of unluckily timed combination of attacks from the AVs.
    5) Lastly against Lord Recluse, they should use inspirations/buffs to be defense capped and to increase their resistance.

If you happen to be on Protector, come join us on a Thursday evening for a MSTF run, (see the thread on the Protector forum). All ATs are welcome. There are times we probably err too close the bare minimum to complete a MSTF successfully but that's why we've had 3 tank or 3 scrapper runs that have succeeded. Due to time constraints we tend not to run such configurations but we very much try to accomodate whatever people want to play.
