Well I'm even later, but I have some tidbits to add based on feedback at the last Pride event. While Pride is a GLBTQ channel, allies are also perfectly welcome. I should know. I'm a str8 male and they were crazy enough to make me a channel mod too.
Pride is a very social channel. You will find many members willing to alt over, even across servers, to help someone that asks. In addition to the expected large amounts of up to date game info available, there is almost always someone on willing to discuss whatever topics are on your mind. Religion, politics, food, and ancient languages are recent examples of topics I have seen. Naturally we like to mind the game's T rating of course.
So if you've a mind to, come on and join us. -
After some overdue sleep, I still think this is a valid question. (NOT here to continue the argument folks.
) Since, as it will become clear, I'm unlikely to get around to telling MG ingame, I'll answer here. The short answer is because that's how I think. In large, over-analyzed chunks of information.
You wouldn't really have any way to know this because, by and large, I actively choose not to engage the Victory community in general. Now the folks that caused me to feel this way have been out of the game for about 2 years or so. So while the reasons for this behavior aren't really valid anymore, the feelings are something I haven't been able to shake. (For those that may care to know more my AE arc, Anti-harassment tutorial, may still be in the system.)
So when I said participation and/or lack thereof is voluntary, I was stating a standard I hold myself to. From my current behavior, you would never guess that I used to be the activities director for a large coalition of VGs. Many of which still are in the top 100.
So in closing. Hello, my name is ImpulseKing and I'm perhaps the most verbose person you've never heard of. -

Quote:And I understand that that is your perception and that you have your right to it. My perception differs.I do understand your issue, somewhat, but if you want to be taken seriously, you have got to get away from this entirely. It has absolutely nothing to do with this.
Quote:Whoever started the channel has the "right" to do with it whatever they want (in accordance with the rules and regs of the company allowing him to have created and use the channel in the first place). Personally, I'd take it to PMs and discuss with @Hamster (moo).
(No I don't think that kicking was mentioned in any way meant to intimidate. Nor do I think that anyone involved is a baby-eating nazi. I am simply expressing a disagreement and suggesting a solution. Honestly, I've teamed with most all of you at some point and wouldn't hesitate to do so again. But the way this was handled honestly touched a nerve completely unique to me and my history on Victory. It upset me in a way which I have no reason to think anyone would expect. So much that after kicking was mentioned I went into /Ghide and logged into another server on a toon without any Victory channels in the tabs.) -
Quote:But no one is forcing you to spam those channels. Until the silencing began, I was completely unaware of Limitless for example. Never missed it and got teams just fine without it.I still see no reason to. It was made as an extension of VB, not as a separate channel itself. Now that that extension is no longer necessary, there's no reason to keep the channel (thus splitting up groups of players). It's bad enough if you're in Victory Forum, Global, Badges, Limitless, and any other private channels you may be in, having to broadcast in each one of those is a pain.
Quote:This has nothing to do with free speech. It's about efficiency. Losing the channel is more efficient.
Now I was on the channels I wanted to be on. Someone decided to silence everyone and then started to discuss the option of kicking, in case you weren't online when this went down. Again rather plainly my freedoms of speech and assembly were infringed.
Also again, my main complaint is that this was handled badly and that I wasn't the only one to notice. Correcting this is still simple. -

Also be sure to talk to Prometheus some more for the Avid Reader badge.

Quote:A nice summation. Please allow me to respectfully present a rebuttal. I must do this here because I no longer have the option to do so in VB 09.Since the full channel issue has apparently been resolved, Victory Badges 2009 has been retired. Please use '/chainjoin "Victory Badges"' to join Victory Badges instead.
Brief FAQs:
'What's the 'full channel issue'?' -- Before the /chantimeout command was implemented (and broken and refixed) Victory Badges had the maximum number of players join... including those who had inactive accounts and could not be removed from the channel. No new players could join unless someone left.
'Why Victory Badges 2009?' -- That's what a GM suggested. We had no clue at the time it would take so long to get the issue dealt with.
'Why close the channel at all?' -- We took an informal poll around the time the /chantimeout command was first implemented and about 2/3rds of both channels' population preferred to close VB09.
The basic issue, for me, comes down to the last point of the informal poll. Now I concede that it would be impossible to reach everyone, let alone a consensus. Still, as I was sick with chicken pox for basically the last 2 weeks, I was online a LOT of that time and never saw a discussion about VB 09.
Be that as it may, if you don't want to use VB 09, why take away the rights of others to use it instead of leaving yourselves? I can't (and wouldn't) stop you from having conversations elsewhere. Why are you stopping mine on VB 09?
In all earnest seriousness, the rights of assembly and free speech are VITAL parts of a free society. Currently MULTIPLE wars are being fought over these [Arab spring]. And quite bluntly, silencing and kicking folks on VB 09 without proper warning was QUITE poor handling of some folks wanting to be elsewhere. A notice in the MOTD that didn't elaborate how and when this would happen was insufficient in my view. If I had known how this was to go down, I would have gone on Ghide for a week and had the channel to myself and whomever else might have wanted it. But I was denied even that option. I and several others.
Now I don't like to talk about a problem without suggesting a solution when I can. Fortunately there IS an easy one here. 3 easy steps in fact.
1. Unsilence EVERYone in VB 09.
2. If no existing channel mod wants to remain, then you can promote me. I'll handle it if you folks don't want the burden.
3. If you don't want to be there, leave. Your participation, and/or lack thereof is voluntary.
There is still a chance to make this right folks. Please take it. -
More accurately, there WILL be a change to Group Fly in i20.5. It will lose the to-hit penalty when the issue hits the live servers.
Oh and I just recalled another limited way I've used it. Teaming with new players in Mercy to show them what Fly will be like. (I more regularly used my /Kin with SB and Inertial Reduction though.) With Freedom likely to bring an influx of new folks, this can be a fun use of the power as well. Admittedly this will not appeal to everyone. -
Yes Trials are hard to come by on 'ol Vic. But for what it's worth forming and leading them aren't that hard technically. Assuming you can get folks, and THAT'S the hard part on our server, expand the League UI using the 2 arrows on the right of the league window. This allows you to drag and drop players onto different teams as needed. Once you are set up and ready to start, you do indeed use the LFG tab at the top of your chat window to start the trial.
I want to do more trials on Victory because I WANTS MY SHINEYS!! I have lead several trials on Virtue, but I only have one 50 there, so can only earn 2 Emps per day there. Whereas if I could run trials with my 8 50s on Vic too I would have shineys and extra lore pets to spare.
For the record I'm also willing to run trials. I ain't perfect, but I haven't run a failed one yet. -
Quote:Absolutely valid concerns. And I agree that left to the natural course of things that bases would fall by the wayside... again. What I'm trying to suggest is that folks have a chance to fight for bases so that it doesn't happen. In other words if you influence enough folks to spend for bases, you can influence the devs to spend their time on them. As a byproduct, base bugs would get more attention too.As long as it's on the subject of bases and super groups, nothing is off topic, my friend.
Now the only problem I can see with your suggestion is, as explained to me by a friend, long ago on the subject of purchased base items through micro transactions is that once one has access to a base item, everyone technically would, at least everyone would, thus there wouldn't be a lot of profit for such a thing.
if it's functional, than once the person who purchased it put it down, everyone probably could use the item.
If it's aesthetic, everyone can admire it, and move it if they have editing permissions.
How do you do this, you might reasonably ask?
FIND ways. Contests using emphasizing purchasable base items come to mind easily.
If you are willing to fight for bases, I'm saying Freedom is a shot you haven't had before. Take your shot to fight for what you love. -
Always a good idea to check out a major power selection in advance of course. I've been a fan of Group Fly on my MMs for years. But yeah, it's NOT as fire and forget as you might expect. The technique I use to keep them together is quite simple. I simply pause about every 4 seconds. If a pet falls out for some reason, I use Recall Friend to get them back in the field.
As an aside, I use the same technique on mothership raids to get dead teammates back into the fray quickly. Just loiter above the fracas at a safe distance, petless, and TP them back.
Other than that, I wouldn't expect Group Fly to be used everyday. I've kept it, indeed respecced into it, on my Merc/Dark for years and gone many stretches of several months without using it. I've kept it for use in PvP and the odd GM that tries to run away from being my team's next shiney badge. (Ok yeah, PvP's reduced base accuracy along with the to-hit debuff of Group Fly? Mercs toss out -Def like candy at Halloween and it cascades to where hitting is a non-issue.) -
Apologies in advance if this is off the intended topic, but I think we might also look at how Freedom could impact bases.
Some of the last items that I recall being added for bases were in the vet rewards. As we know Freedom will rework/replace the vet rewards, and I suspect, but do not "know", some of the stuff will be purchasable.
So here's where I'm going with this. If we want more stuff for bases, we should use our Paragon Points at the ingame store to purchase the base stuff that we can. At last we have the chance to show that working on bases is what the players want with the thing that any for-profit business will listen to, our money.
Heck, I'd be happy to get a decorative pinball machine in my bases. -
That being the case, you will likely be able to get answers quicker by posting in the technical issues forum in the development section.
Hope you are able to play with us all soon. -

Quote:I must respectfully disagree with this. Repel is part of Kin and it DOES provide mitigation. Pretty early on too. Now I admit many, if not most, players skip Repel. But the assertion is that the set itself doesn't mitigate. Not the set's fault if a player won't use the tool that's in the box.Capped damage is still zero once you faceplant, and Kin does absolutely nothing to prevent that from happening.
By now it should be obvious that I am a fan of well-timed use of the power. It can turn a squishy into a pocket tank briefly and prevent a teamwipe in my experience. This is a desperation ploy for use when your team is going to wipe. Which, as a support toon, you should be able to see coming in my opinion. Timing is key as it should be obvious to your tank/brute/scrapper that they are about to evaluate floorwax, but before they actually do. AND it has to be in time to actually prevent the wipe. Oh and there's also a good chance that your gonna die from aggro even if you save your team.
Repel. Think of it as PUG insurance. -
Just as a quick aside. SOs are perfectly playable. Even in the iTrials. I use them myself and found myself invited to a 10-man Lambda run last night. 1st run on that toon and no real problems.
As for the inf concerns, I might recommend heading down to the market forums, but the obvious advice is to focus on selling just now. Oh and remeber you have multiple builds now to experiment with.
And lastly, since I don't IO my toons, cruise on down to the archetype forums and see what appeals to you most. This approach will likely bring you more satisfaction than random folks telling you to pick A over B and C. -
Quote:These are all valid points, and unfortunately, kind of a shame in my humble opinion. If I might threadjack for a moment, this is why I made a VG on Justice redside some years back where all members can edit the base. This is the core problem really. What percentage of the players do you think ever use the base editor? Of that group what percentage do you think really use it beyond the minimum to get a functional base with a small amount of decoration?
The problem is that improving base editing is likely a huge amount of work (based on comments the devs have made) which provides value for a relatively small fraction of the player base.
Then I gave it away.
Then I remade it and named it Extreme Base Makeovers. Sadly it has more or less remained a solo VG but if anyone here might be interested in joining feel free to shoot me a tell ingame at @Impulseking and we'll see about getting you in. Relevant info: 1. All ranks can edit base, invite members, and pay rent. 2 . Many ranks can edit VG colors and symbol. 3. Yeah, I wanna keep the red star.4. If concerned with RP, the VG has an (unenforced obviously) anarchist theme. Yes it's a loosely organized group promoting anarchy. Deal with the inherent contradictions as you want.
Oh and I won't presume that other base-editing SGs like this don't also exist. Only that I'm as yet unaware of any others. -
Best advice there is to keep playing and making friends as the opportunity presents itself. You can even make your OWN global channel if you see a need that's not being sufficiently met. I occasionally play on Virt red so I know there is teaming that goes on there even without being on that server's channels (Victory is my home server). If you are just looking for random conversation, globals can help there too. I often use Pride, the GLBT channel, for that purpose myself.

Just another reason why Steelclaw is a valued member of our community.
-
Eden top and Bikini 3 eh? I see the issue. That person had installed a patch that recolors those parts. They are at fault for modifying their client and being offended by what they chose to see.
-
Quote:Absolutely correct, but there's an easy reason for that. All those servers are located on the west coast. Seems quite natural that the east coast servers had less attendance. Although it made it easier for me to snag 2 Victory table markers.Other people who attend events outside California may have a different perspective to offer...
I have attended the Herocon and most of the Meet and Greets out West, and I had some observations:
Virtue has the biggest attendance... by a wide mile, as far as I can tell.
After that, Freedom and Justice are about the same, with the former bringing less than you might expect given their size and the latter bringing more.
Even being a tiny server, Protector gets a pretty good turnout. -
Got one from a LGTF run, and I'll admit right off a little more questioning may have nipped it in the bud. So I'm on my Ice/Traps Corrupter and the team mix seems reasonable although we have only one melee, a tanker.
We are discussing difficulty and agreeing this will be a shard run when the tanker chimes in that he wants +2s. In my head I'm thinking "..wha.. why? Oh well it's an easy TF, so why not?" We set it to +2 without arguing over it. Forgetting that while many of us had, in fact, played together before this was still an untested PUG.
While in general it being +2 was a slowdown and many deaths happened with regularity, it wasn't until Hami that it went REALLY wrong...
Now as I said, many of us were earning debt badge credit already so we knew Hami would be more challenging than normal. In fact 2 of us alted out and emailed in EoEs (Yes I was one of them.) Although not until a teamwipe or 2. So we have by now gone through the whole recital of which Mitos are vulnerable to what a few times. We gather, set a target, pop the EoEs and charge a yellow, except for the tanker. He is off trudging slowly toward a green. We took down that yellow but wiped before we could take a 2nd. Tanker then complains that his shields aren't doing anything. I swear over the internet I could just HEAR 6 other facepalms happening. So we repeated to him that Hami damage will indeedy render him about as squishy as the rest of us.
So his response? He goes off and hides behind a rock and stops talking to us for the remainder of the mish. With 4 yellows still up we have lost our melee. Oh yeah, fun times..
Now eventually we take Hami down, but you can imagine the carnage. We lose a Defender due to time, as we are over 2 hours into this by now. And my fiancee, who laughs when I die (unrelated story) is complaining her sides are hurting every time my Cor leads the charge at a yellow with only ghost slaying ax as a melee attack. But we DO get through it.
Now as we enter the final mish it seems we are at the 4 hour mark and it unanimously converts to a speed run. Thanked everyone upon completion and logged for about 3 hours of sleep before work, to tired to even use playernotes to 1-star that tank.. -
Quote:An absolutely fair point. Yet this doesn't seem to happen often with me. Perhaps this is due to playstyle as I eliminate AOE threats with priority. /Dark of course provides - to hit mitigation. Another factor has to be the innate resistance of the Mercs. If I recall correctly even the lowest of them has 10% resist to Smash/Lethal. Then I added the proc that adds +10% to all resists. But resisted damage is still damage and that's where the medic comes in. I keep my medic alive and he keeps everything else going if I can't.I've found that while masterminds tend to be highly versatile, they tend, on average and in the incarnations I've played, to have two significant vulnerabilities that my Ill/Rad does not have:
1. They tend to be vulnerable to AoE damage. In situations with a lot of AoE, you can easily find all your pets vaporizing faster than you can keep them alive unless you have a huge amount of AoE defense (Bots/FF, for example, tends to be less vulnerable, but not completely invulnerable). Two of the three sources of aggro control in Ill/Rad are totally indestructible: PA and Spooky.
If all else fails then TP Foe can be used to cut the AOE threat well before it's developed.
Quote:2. They tend to be vulnerable to high order burst damage, such as from AVs. The little pets in particular are AV cannon fodder. That makes it tricky for most masterminds to control AV aggro without significant help.
Quote:Really strong MMs can cover for these weaknesses of course, but they tend to be pits in the armor Ill/Rad doesn't have. They have other strengths that Ill/Rad doesn't have, of course, but those two tend to hurt the overall versatility of MMs in my mind, even given their other advantages.
Which is not to say they aren't highly versatile archetypes in general. And Bots in particular, being essentially completely ranged, can in practice neutralize a lot of the issues with aggro and burst damage by staying at range. My experience with Mercs is much more limited, so I can't say with first hand experience what the top end performance of Merc MMs is.In addition to the normal advice of avoiding serum, I would offer that Burst and Slug are worth taking. Burst to help initiate a -Def cascade and Slug for actual damage. I hope you find the journey as enjoyable as I.
