Quote:Looking at views and replies, I'd have to disagree.Given that this forum is already on its second page of threads... seems to be working out.
IMO, there seems to be more rationality in what you perceive as hysteria than what went into the implementation of this fiasco.

I also find that passive-aggressive self-righteous superiority is it's own special kind of rudenss.
While I don't necessarily agree with all of Plainguy's opinions, I do think he has raised a good point:
Quote:Not only was the question too broad and vague, but Zwill was asking complete newbs who naturally are not going to know a dog-rotted thing thanks to the poorly written tutorial and the video presentation as CoH's "main" page.Recently, I've spent time talking to people who were new to the game, and even asking people, where can I find builds
Quote:Because Zwilligner asked 3 level 10 players hanging around atlas a poorly worded question it means we need a new forum to consolidate all the Archtype builds all together ?..
If it were that important why not ask every player in the form of a poll when they log in...?
I polled...
Guess the results.
All but 1 person knew where to ask for a build or where to post one which was not this new forum.
The one person that didn't know was a F2P player that didn't understand why he couldn't get IOs or what IOs where let alone why he couldn't do Incarnate stuff. I told him to PM Zwillinger on the forums. He said what forums. He didn't know we had a forums because he thought the website was nothing but that F2P page with the video. He didn't know there was a link on the top of the page to get into the website. Go figure.
He did mention that someone asked him right when he zoned into atlas what a build was or how to get one. Being only level 2 and new he didn't even have a clue what he was doing let alone what a build was or a website. He did complain to me that the tutorial was confusing. I guess that might have been zwillinger who ambushed him. Zwillinger should maybe jump on that tutorial complaint since this guys was confused with that and didn't understand it. ...

This is where your "research" fails. You asked the wrong question.
"Where can I find builds?", is too broad and vague... therefore you got broad and vague answers.
Builds for this game are not like builds for other games. There is no single build for any AT/Power combination. There are so many variables involved, that each build is usually customized to the individual's wants/needs. Heck, I have 6 different builds for my Kin/Arch Defender based on different focus criteria. I haven't even decided which one(s) I really want to use yet.
Consequently, due to the individualized nature of building, the community has developed a "tell us what you need" method of helping people with their builds. It is not generally accepted to just hand someone a "template" build, because there are individual playstyle factors that make that approach counterproductive.
If you had asked, "Where can I find HELP with building my (specific) AT/powerset?"... I'm pretty sure you would have gotten more specific responses:
1. go to the forum for the AT that you are building
2. search the first 3 pages
3. if you don't find what you need, post
or
1. go to the advanced search options
2. enter a phrase that includes the powerset of interest
3. check the AT forum to search
4. (optional) set search by post (not thread)
5. if you don't find what you need, post in the desired AT forum
Remembering back to my newbish days, I did not have a problem figuring out where to go to find help with my Ice/Mace tank... jus' sayin'.

I almost never frequent the Help channel, but last night I found a use for it....
I was able to one-star (my "low" rating) the trolls.

Normally, I'd say, "yeah, that's the way it's supposed to work"...
But with the last round of bugs to hit bases, I kinda have to shrug my shoulders and say, "weird things happen"... -
Just a little side note here; Assorted Associates SG has coalied with TankHQ. For players who need a place for their non-tank alts to hang their capes.
At AA, we believe that altitis, like a bag of mixed nuts, is something that should be wholly embraced and enjoyed... because Alts are Super too!
mmmmm.... nuts

Thanks for the response, Zwill.

New Bug (or is it a reappearing old one?)...
Anyway, you can't fix it.
Only the Devs can fix it.
Supposedly, it's on their "to do" list.

Did you delete from the "current room" tab?
Sometimes there are small things that get forgotten, or stuck in a wall.... You can delete anything you don't see from the "current room" tab (on the side of the pane where you pick your items and such). -
hmmmmm......

Quote:I've been noticing this too, but I wasn't sure if it was just because of my new graphics drivers (catalyst 11.9).An irritant to me is that I enter my base and it takes about 3 seconds to fill in all the textures and details. Enter in get fuzzy view of the entryway and down hallways. Solid one color green walls, solid one color lights, a brown block for a table or chair, etc.
Then a second visual pass happens and some details starts appearing. You get the room lighting affecting the walls, torches have a shape and two colors but no flicker, a chair becomes recognizable as a chair, you can see a colored object down the hallway in an adjacent room, etc.
And then a third visuals pass brings in all the rest of the details. You see wall textures, bricks, wood textures on walls, shadows under chairs, and the rest of the details.
This is kind of irritating to me.

Quote:I used to get this only on specific servers, but now I am seeing it on all of them. I have tried setting the card as the primary, and letting the game be primary, and neither setting seems to make a difference.
Same thing with FSAA/Occlusion settings, have to choose one or the other. If I leave it with both settings on, the lines create that crazy line effect that you see when a news anchor wears a herringbone patterned suit. It's bad, and makes my eyes hurt. -
Okay, so drop trading doesn't work at all?
I saw that it isn't working with insps, but it also doesn't work with enhancies or salvage?
But e-mail does? (as long as they're lvl 10)...
That seems kinda.... odd.
It's like locking the front door with double bolts and chains, but leaving the back patio door wide open.

It's probably the re-draw. One of those longtime quirks. Everytime you put/take something in the salvage racks, the entire base re-draws itself.

As far as I can tell, once in an SG, the status/permissions of a Premium follows the SG settings.
HOWEVER, a Preem cannot interact with the SG registrar, so they will be unable to pay rent.
Therefore, a Preem only SG will soon have an inoperable base, due to nobody being able to pay rent. You will need at least one VIP in your SG to maintain the base.

Quote:This.Well it may simply be that the easiest way to gate creation of an SG was to lock a Preemie out from talking to the SG rep. Side effect is a Preemie can't pay rent.
Also, it is mentioned in the ginormous i21 patch notes that only VIPs will be able to "edit" bases. I'm wondering if the devs have a different definition of "edit" than the players do: Dev "edit" = SG registrar, Player "edit" = futzing around in the base editor. It was brought up in open beta, but the question was never officially clarified. -
Big huge THANKS go to everyone who had a hand in putting this together.
It was EPIC!
The War Walkers were scrapped for parts.... I understand several of the Robotic-type Tanks were "drooling" over the fresh supplies.
Lowbie (lvl 5) Coronal Flare managed to stay on her feet.... mostly, with the support of her fellow tanks. Only Mother Mayhem managed to break up our solidarity (I think there were about 6 trips to the hosp for me at that point). But we were tenacious, and took (all of) her down in the end.
The Snowmen were turned into snowcones and slushies, and yeilded up their candy canes. (yay!).
Lusca... well, by that time, we were all pretty hungry anyway... so a sushi snack was a nice little treat.
And there were Hami Seedlings, and Maurader, and the Mystics... and all kinds of badgies and extra goodies sprinkled throughout.
Like I said... Epic, epic fun.
Also, I was truly surprised and honored to have Coronal Flare chosen as a winner for the biography contest. Thank you, again. /em bow

I think you can still "drop trade".... maybe drop a few high level SO's on him, and let him sell them at the store?
-
Thanks for the settings suggestions...
I have another (maybe dumb) question:
Whenever I switch between the game and desktop, I have to open up the catalyst and "reactivate" the settings for the desktop's brightness/contrast/gamma. How can I get the settings to "stick"? (WinXP, 32 bit, radion 5700 series, new LG monitor) -
Quote:Ah...I had been the superleader until recently. Hijacking had occurred to me. There's a character I'm not familiar with as superleader now
Sorry to say, but Support will only deal with the Superleader of a group.
You may be up a creek.... though the prestige thing is still very strange.
