I personally think the prices are getting too high. I see things that cost 1 million to craft selling for 7 million or so. With those kind of markups I don't buy enhancements anymore, I'd rather take the time to craft. I would pay a 2 million markup to not have to buy/craft, but 6 million is ridiculous, and this is coming from someone who can afford to pay it. Imagine all those players who don't have huge bankrolls. This is my personal experience and I know that YMMV.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Repeat after me: Those aren't prices you see in the last 5 sales.

That's what the last 5 buyers were willing and able to pay.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This can't be stated enough apparently. Put a bid in for your salvage/recipe just before you log for the night/day....at a fraction of the last five bids. More often than not, when you log the next day, all your bids are filled. Obviously some recipes take longer than others.....

One caveat...on especially wealthy characters, I just enter the 'MUST GET NOW!' price and be done with it. But with a bit of patience, you should rarely if ever have to do Influence/Infamy transfers to alts.

I've won exactly one CC of the few I've entered. It happened to be with what 'I' thought was my best costume combined with a nice backstory. *shrug* I most likely entered a CC who's leaders had similar tastes to mine, nothing more.

You may even want to go below 25. If PvP isn't in the picture at all, the mid teens are your best option. Many characters specced specifically for level 15 can solo Positron quite nicely. I have several toons that do this.

Edit: If you plan on PvPing with this toon, level 30ish is the most preferred......I can't say exactly, I don't PvP.
  4. If and when you start another static team, I'm very much interested. Especially if the time is still Sundays 8PM EST. This jives really well with my schedule. As far as team make up, I'm open to just about anything, including an all theme group...such as an all Empath or all Radiation team(just examples that popped into my head).

My current draft of my Letter to the Editor.

Note: Unfortunately, according to their editorial desk, this letter is FAR too long. The woman I spoke with recommended 200-250 words, and this is 542 words. That's just not gonna cut it. So, give me tips on what I should pare down that won't rob the letter of the point it is trying to make, which is basically that our community is almost entirely good while Twixt was simply being dishonest about the validity of his findings. The author of the original article (who I spoke with yesterday) encouraged that I play up the good stuff the community does. I also have to avoid any "gamer terms" to allow maximum understanding. So, here's it so far:

Re: ‘City of Heroes character ‘Twixt” becomes game’s most hated outcast courtesy of Loyola professor ’, Local News, July 6.

Having been a regular player and Official Forum poster for the past four years, I would consider myself a decent judge of our City of Heroes online community.

I was therefore shocked when I read the Times-Picayune’s story about David Myers’ “study” of our community. Myers himself actually posted a link on the CoH forums to his paper last year. The shock came from the fact that Myers was not only turning his paper into a book, but that he was being featured in an article that did not properly research what Myers wrote about.

Our community includes a player-founded “taxi service” of experienced players who shuttle new players around. We have our own player-founded “emergency medical technicians” who dedicate their time to helping heal and assist hurt players. Our forums include well-wishes for players who have new babies, get married, or go off to war. We have sponsored charities, conventions, meet-and-greets, and have even had a few weddings. Somehow, none of these things made it into Myers’ paper.

Myers presented the extreme negatives of our community as the standard. Myers leaves out that he verbally attacked, insulted, harassed, stalked, and goaded many more individuals than he noted. Some of his verbal attacks are still present on our forums. He did more than just use a loophole in the rules, he specifically went out of his way to insult and harass as many players as he possibly could.

I'm certainly no expert....but perhaps something like this? This was one of the more difficult shaving jobs I've done...this was very well written.

It is not risky to use the market if you half half a functioning brain cell.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I dunno....most are gonna have a bit of trouble if they half half a brain cell. I've halfed half my brain cells in the past, and I hardly remember a thing!

OP ignore AE. Seriously, I go in there once in awhile for missions and love it as a place to get inspirations, but otherwise, AE just isn't worth getting steamed about. It's not ruining the game. It's ruining the game for some players.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Agreed completely. It really hasn't impacted my gameplay at all to be honest. I've always started new Heroes in Galaxy City anyway, so very little has changed. I must admit, however, that I play almost exclusively with Coalition members.
  8. Well, after 24 hours, the results are mixed. Seven of the Mako's sold at a profit margin of 4-5 million(I listed at 5.1 million and they all sold for 6-7 million). However, only one of the Nictus sold. I am now sitting on 34 million, so 5 million profit, and 12 enhancements still listed. Not surprising really....A lot more characters use Mako's, despite the sale history showing five Nictus sales on the 15th and 16th.

I went ahead and bought some more Mako's recipes, crafted, and relisted. That at least will be a profitable niche for a little while.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
I would never post 10 of each at a time unless it's commons which turnover super fast. You're blowing your own niche before you start.

On a related note, I had a Nictus: Healing that I won on rolls and it was worthless. Blueside must rock...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Normally I'd agree with you. But this was simply a test. After looking at the sale history, my choices are most likely good ones. Like anyone else, I'm looking for quick profit. Time will tell I suppose.

I thought trial accounts could reach level 14.

To clarify Von Krieger's post (which may not need it): You can get a "taste" of flying at level 5 with a temporary power which runs out after 2 hours.

The level 14 Fly power is something you can use as long as you want. Fly a hundred yards up in the air, go grab a sandwich in safety, come back, cruise through zones that would otherwise kill you, etc. - and it's a lot faster than the temp power.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And I thought trial accounts went to level 15. Don't quote me, but I'm about 90% sure they do.
  11. Just for the heck of it, I am trying to find a new niche right now. I went with the first two IO sets that popped into my head. Touch of the Nictus:Healing and Mako's Bite Accuracy/Endurance/Recharge were what I chose. I picked Touch of the Nictus and Mako's for no other reason than several of my characters use them. I spent a couple of minutes looking at the price differences between recipes and crafted IO's. The largest margins(regardless of salvage costs) determined what I chose to try. I didn't bother waiting for lower bids on salvage. I tried to spend as little time as possible buying, crafting, and listing. I have ten of each IO up for sale. I started with just over 29 Million Influence. I'll post an update tomorrow to see how I've done.

Time spent looking for a niche: About 10 seconds.
Time spent narrowing which recipes to flip: About 2 minutes.
Time spent buying recipes, salvage, and crafting IO's:About 2 minutes.
    Influence invested: About 27 million.

    Edit: Minor typo....

Also...I really don't need the Influence. This particular character is pretty well slotted. No Purples, and few ultra rares, but really well frankenslotted with some specific set bonuses. If I end up taking a loss(which frankly I highly doubt) it's not a big deal.
  12. Yea, having the same problem myself. Unsure what the cause is.
  13. Fair enough. As I said, it's often difficult tell the tone of a post. My apologies for the implication.
  14. Wow. I'm just not seeing why it's as big a deal as you're making it out to be. I have no problem with the Dev team getting rid of exploits however they see fit. Sure, admittedly they sometimes are a little overzealous. They're human after all. It's hard sometimes to read tone in one's posts, but yours came across as angry and bitter. I understand it's just a game....but that works both ways. Why take it so personally?

Overall I really doubt that I'll have a use for this service. Except for the first couple of characters I ever made I have never exhausted my existing in-game respec options.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Mmmhmm. So really complaining about the price is a tempest in a teapot.

The compulsive just can't stop tweaking respecers will pay it, because it's worth the price to feed their compulsion. You know the guys "If I just had ONE more, I could fix everything that's wrong!!"

For everybody else, the price is just a number that will never affect them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Uh huh....and more power to 'em. Every extra dollar helps with the development of this game. I haven't a single iota problem with things like this. I'll never use 'em, but I know there are enough that will to help increase the company coffers.

Edit: Heck, call me crazy but REALLY put a cramp in the 'gold farmers' and set up a 'pay for Influence' gig, or a 'pay for level' program. Wouldn't affect me in the slightest...unless I happened to team with the latter I suppose.....

Yea, yea...probably really extreme ideas that would cause more problems than are worth it, but I just got done watching Eddie Izzard and anything seems possible...

  18. Definately a very nice guide! My Mind/Kinetic is level 19 now, and I love the combo. Spot on with Confuse and TK. Both are awesome tools when used correctly. Also....I'm ashamed to admit that I don't know how to post a link in the forums, but Hedon's guide to Mind Control has some incredible info on how to use TK...including pictures.

One bit of advice I found extremely useful from Hedon was to practice TK on greys. Spend 10 or 20 minutes getting a feel for it before you use it in a group.

Again, thanks a bunch for the guide!
  19. Um....'Twas brillig and the slivy toves, did gyre and gimble in the wabe.
  20. Super groovy! Glad you are going to update it.
  21. Thanks for the nice guide! I was curious about the synergy between WP/Super Strength, and it seems to be just fine. I love SS, and hope I don't come to regret going with EM(my first toon ever to get EM past level six).
  22. A very nice guide, thanks for compiling this! I know many have been asking for a Fire/Kin guide for a long time.

One thing I wanted to throw out there is about Smoke. There is one very situational, but extremely effective use for this power early. When two mobs are close to each other, one can be smoked while the other is engaged. The smoked mob stands there yakking while you and your team are ganking.
  23. A very nice guide. Indeed it jives well with my own experiences on my Empath.
  24. Well for my part, I found your post entertaining. Your power choices were obviously successfull enough and fun enough for you to post a guide, and for that good job!
  25. I'm continually amazed at the effort you put into making sense of all of this. Thanks a ton from one who doesn't have the time or know-how to find information like this on my own.
