    Empathy Opinions

The other night there was a discussion on broadcast that I took a slight exception to.

The main points that bothered me where:

    1) Only a looser takes Absorb Pain
    2) Only a looser puts Healing Aura on auto

I've only created one defender with empathy and I do both of these things. I did a bit of research and when I started this character I decided that she would focus on her primary. The only attack she has is the one that I had no choice in taking. She is completely useless except for her ability to keep everyone else alive and moving.

Healing Aura on auto: I'm usually quite busy with other things to want to worry about manually using this power. For example, I am busy cycling through each of my team mates and using Clear Mind on them. I can usually keep Clear Mind doubled up on every member of the team, the only one that ever gets mezzed is my character.

The same holds true for fortitude, which I usually reserve for scrappers. I have it now so that I can keep this on at least one team mate continuously and almost on two continuously.

Having Healing Aura on auto allows me to concentrate on those that need the extra healing and not just the buffing (Heal Other, Absorb Pain, Resurrect)

Absorb Pain: lets face it, sometimes a team mate will suddenly go from full heath to near face plant before you can react. Yes, I've taken this but I try not to use it except in emergencies.

The only thing I agreed with in the conversation was not running after team mates that separate from the group. I stay with the main group and place myself so that my auras cover as much of the group as possible. If someone decides to run off in a different direction I'm not going to leave the main group vulnerable to pull one characters bacon out of the fire.

So, am I doing this wrong? Am I really a looser because I take Absorb Pain and put Healing Aura on auto?
  2. To get the actual tip drops I'll likely be taking my Claws/SR scrapper solo missions set at x4 or higher... more drops because there is more to fight and they are all mine. Specially if there are badges involved and there is only a 10 day window to get them all.

If everyone gets the rewards for doing the missions on the other hand, after I have the tips then maybe a team.

That's because the regular trolls at the raid count toward a different badge.

I did this on CoT mages. I was fighting Fire Thorn Casters and other "Casters" thing they were mages, only to find out they did not count. Only the ones that specifically say "Mage" in their name count. Funny, they seem to be mages to me....

    Did you overpay?

It's still nice to see some people that try, though maybe the person bid high to make sure they got it and it wasn't an overpay.

Another thing that has happened to me when standing in a market is to suddenly be gifted with a very expensive item because the person was dragging it into the market window and dropped it on me by mistake. I will generally ask if they really meant to give me the item.... usually they did not. Surprisingly, this happens to me on a quite regular basis.

You know, last night after posting that comment I thought of exactly this situation. There simply is no way that I'm going to do that many tip/morality missions with a single character. With that said, there is really no point in trying to save them.

The better option is to use them to buy something that will sell high on the market and then use the inf I get from there to buy the things that I really want.

With the 1 A-merit every 2 days running tips and the 1 per day form the conversions (if you can actually afford to make that many conversions, and if you can then you should already be able to afford anything you want to buy) the minimum time to get a full set with A-Merits is what 40 days of grinding + converting. But since I can't afford the conversion, for me it would be 1 every 2 days => ~240 days => ~8 months to a set. Not likely to ever happen.

This puts things into perspective making the only use for these Merits, at least for me, is to use them up and sell whatever I manage to get.
  6. Just read through this and find I'm not happy at all about it. I've been saving for those purples with the thought of waiting till I could by an entire set all at once, not to sell but to use. The idea of needing to take 6 days to make my purchases seems absolutely bloody ridiculousness.
  7. I read through the FAQ's and everything I could find on alignment but I did not see where this was specifically addressed.

If I'm playing a hero character and I'm the leader of a team that consists of Heroes, Vigilantes and Rogues can all of my team mates use my base.

    Heroes = yes
    Vigilantes = yes
Rogues = ??? This is the one I'm trying to figure out and the one I can't seem to find specific info about. Can a Rogue enter the SG of the leader of the team?

Edit: Never mind, a bit more searching located the answer.

Makes sense, so now I know what one I did

    3) I'm betting it didn't register as complete in Ouroboros because of the change and the fact that the developers have been monkeying with the npcs on those arcs to get them to award badge credit correctly, perhaps resetting the "completed" flag in the process.
This is the main reason I've been putting off redoing them in in Ouro. When I did her mission the first time I only got credit toward the badge for one of the AV's. Read here that there was a problem and I don't want to go through the whole arc again until they fix it.

    AV Team?

This is likely what was being referred to, but since I've never heard the two referenced together and I haven't actually done Maria's arc yet. I've been doing some of the other contacts in that range and just hit my first 50. I was headed her way soon.

I suppose if it hadn't been past my bed time last night when I was invited I would know for sure.

    AV Team?

I've been invited to them (sadly, was time for me to call it a night) and I've seen them advertised "AV Team LFM". I've done a search and found nothing. I am assuming that this refers to a specific task force or some specific arc in the game.

Can some tell me just what does "AV Team" refer to?

Could make sense, but I did Tina after GR came out, so I'm still lost. "An Instant Army" Is not listed as one of her Arcs on the Wiki, so I'm assuming that this is the old version of one that I did.

I'll end up doing them both through Ouro anyway (I don't like seeing things incomplete like that), I was just curious. Still confuse
  12. I was just looking over the missions in Ouro and I have a question I hope someone can help me with.

There are two arcs in there level 40-45 for Tina Macintyre. They are "An Instant Army" and "The Praetorian War".

When I was at her level I know I did all of her missions. I even turned off XP to make sure I didn't out-level her before I finished them. I know for a fact that I did "The Praetorian War"

Can anyone shed some light on why they show as being not completed in the mission list?

    Thanks
  13. It appears to me that Silent Blade is speaking about another cop that was killed and further in on the map... of course if you search the entire map you won't find him.

It makes complete sense since someone else apparently got there before you to turn themself in and apparently already did so and you are the evil one...

But it can be confusing, especially the end. I though I had to prove my innocence somehow but didn't see where I did so.
  14. Done this several times now. It appears the map is completely random and so is the location of the cop you need to rescue. However, it appears the cop always spawns in the "front" of the map, meaning usually on the first floor of whatever map you happen to get. Depending on the map it can take some searching in cubby holes, nooks and little rooms where you would normally not go.
  15. My problem with contacts has nothing to do with these, but instead with the ones you cannot talk to and the fact that they are added when you can't talk to them or they are not removed when you can no longer talk to them.

Example 1: The invention tute contact as mentioned above. When switching to either Rogue or Vigilante this contact as added as an active contact, however, you cannot talk to this contact as a rogue or a vigilante.

Example 2: I created a widow character. I did none of the villain contacts, and I mean absolutely none. I did other things to PL the character to level 20 then did paper mission to get tips and switched to hero as quickly as I could. This character not only still has Alan Desslock as a contact, which she cannot possibly talk to, but also now has Kalinda as a contact, who she has never spoken to.

There are many other examples. My opinion is that if a contact will not speak to you because of your alignment then that contact should not appear under the active tab of you contacts.

Has anyone made or is interested in making similarly purposed characters? If there is enough interest, perhaps we could put together a centralized list of those characters, what servers they're on and what times they're available?
I posted a similar thought on both Virtue and in Player Questions and got very little in the way of interest. Which is strange with all the other threads I've seen about how hard these are to get for some people. I'm still willing.

I even proposed something a bit different. My idea was to get the safeguard in atlas and be at the PPD van a a specific time. It takes 8 minutes for the mission to fail. I would just stand on the van and invite anyone that showed up. They could then run it, get the badge and quit the team so that I could invite someone new. Think of how many could get in and get the badge in 8 minutes.

The character I was going to use is now gone, but I'd be willing to make another if you can drum up interest.

I remember the second ambush appeared before I could hit the first sapper once, the third one appeared before I took out that same sapper. Before I'd taken out the first group the room was practically full of Malta.

I can also guarantee that I will be dismissing that tip from now on.
  19. With the rate at which the sappers were sapping my endurance I could do nothing. All my toggles were down and I could barely attack. And this is with the diff turned down and sucking down blue insp till I had no more to use. I really don't think that the sappers ever missed with the sapping.
  20. I just did a tip mission and I'm going to say flat out that I am extremely pissed off right now, but I will try to control myself long enough to ask a question.

I just did the tip "Malta Action Figure" as a hero and solo. This is a level 40 -50 tip. This is the first time I've encountered it.

I walk in and the map is empty, I have to talk to the base commander. I make my way all the way in and talk to him.

Next thing I know there is wave after wave of ambushes. Every ambush consists of a engineer that calls a turret and a sapper. There was what seemed to be at least 10 of them, but to be honest I lost count. There was no more then 15 seconds in between each ambush but I'd be willing to bet that it was less.

    WTF!

Have they designed missions specifically to send you to the hospital numerous times?

Is there any AT that solo can withstand 10 sappers along with 10 turrets (that are extremely difficult to defeat) and 10 engineers all at one go?

What the 4311 where they thinking?
  21. I posted this on the Virtue board and thought I would post a pointer here. Give me your feedback at http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=238706

The reason for the post is that I've read a few discussions about the difficulty of getting the badge and asking to have the safeguard/mayhems added to the flashback system.

    So, here goes...

You've just gone rogue or vigilante or moved in from Praetoria and getting those safeguard/mayhem exploration badges you've missed can be a chore.

I want to help you get the Atlas Park badge. Maybe if this is popular others will try the same for Kings Row, Skyway and Steel Canyon.

    Here's my idea/plan.

I will get the AP safeguard with my level 9 character. At a specific time I will be at the PPD van. Anyone that needs the badge shows up. When I get a full team (and there is a decent queue of others) everyone but I will enter, get the badge and exit. As each character exits they quits the team and I invite the next person in line. We continue to do this until everyone has the badge or time runs out or the mission fails because the villains escaped. I imagine we'd have a good 5 to 10 minutes before that happened?

Sound like an idea? Would anyone show up? If I get an affirmative I will set a date an time for the first run.

    Badging - good times. <salutes>
I've done all the normal in game advertising and even found the badge channel. Usually get one or two. I'd like to find a way to get as many people the badge at one time. I know there are some that just want that badge for a specific character. However, going through 3 radio missions each time and only getting one or two takers for the bank is a bit of a let down.

  24. Don't know if this has been said, but I'm kinda hoping that they implement a similar feature in Paragon and the Rogue Isles.

Gee, thanks for that speed boost while I'm here in Wents, now I can shop faster... except for the tremendous lag 20 people standing around with all their powers and everything going is causing, not to mention the additional lag that's being caused by the 3 shields an other things granted me by drive by buffers so that I am well protected while I do that shopping. Never know when a Wentworth's employee will decide to attack.
  25. I just remembers why I dislike turning the shader quality up even more than the lag it causes me. It is the plastic, shiny look it gives my characters. Even their hair shines like it's made of plastic. Just the look I'm going for in a character, shiny and plastic like a toy.
