I've been vacillating between the Endurance and Accuracy Alpha slots for my plant/storm.
Both plant and storm are major endurance users and the 33% reduction provided by the alpha would be very nice.
However, Seeds of Confusion is the bread and butter of the primary set. I typically get between 3 and 8 confused mobs. It would be nice to push this number up and get a nice consistent high number of confused mobs.
Anybody else decided which of the two would be of more use for their plant/* troller? I've tested the Endurance one, but havent had the time to check out the Accuracy - has anyone tried it to see if it makes any noticeable difference? -
The major issue I have is essentially "We Cant do Everything that the Devs can" as far as mission design.
Examples:
1. I cant precisely place boss mobs or glowies on the map, it is usually random.
2. I cant switch contacts in an arc.
3. I cant spawn another boss mob after defeating "Boss 1". ( i.e. Nemesis appearing after you defeat the Rikti Lord of War )
4. I cant have Boss mobs teleport away when I have them close to defeat.
5. I cant design my own maps.
As far as getting the Devs to actually do anything? Good luck with that. Going back and enhancing existing functionality doesnt sell subscriptions - the next new "shiny" does. -
Murders in the RWZ Morgue
Thought I'd give this mission a try.
Pluses:
Well written, didnt see any obvious grammatical mistakes.
Negatives:
- The reference to "Vanguard Mercenery". Vanguard is a para-military organization. "Vanguard Soldier" would be more appropriate. As far as I know from game lore, Vanguard are not for hire.
- Couldnt figure why Le Bon and his "captors" were firing at each other. They seemed to be having a normal conversation.
- The Rikti "in" the base seemed odd to me. There was a reference to the base being under attack due to the Vanguard confusion over the murder, but I wasnt expecting them in the base. Vanguard patrols are needed to make it appear that the base is at least being defended, instead of entirely in Rikti hands.
- Didnt like the constant searching the entire map as chained objectives were spawned. Very, very annoying, and the mission objectives were pretty vague. I almost quit at the end after finding the monkey's owner and couldnt figure how to end the mission. Standing over the corpse I had already clicked? How was I to know to do that?
- Agent G is more of a calm, cool collected secret agent type, not a W. M. Deitrich. The "I hates Vanguard and they're all scum" attitude is out of character.
Suggestions:
- Le Bon needs "I'm lost" text. -

Scrappers:
BS/Dark: Endurance
MA/Shield: Recharge
Trollers:
Plant/Storm: Endurance
Fire/Kin: Not sure at this time - either recharge or accuracy
Fire/Rad: Endurance
Tanker:
SS/Inv: Endurance
Blaster:
Ice/Ice: Recharge or accuracy
DP/MM: "
AR/Fire: " -
I would not recommend this as your first scrapper. First of all, DB is the only scrapper primary that requires you to perform combinations of attacks to get the max dps. ( MA has one exception ) All others are primarily "click whatever recharges first."
So, if even one attack misses, you miss out on the buff that you would normally get at the end of the attach chain. As such, it is by far the weakest primary of the scrappers I've made thus far.
Also, fire does not provide much damage mitigation. The combination of DB/Fire provides for challenging play for a veteran - it could become very frustrating for a new player. I rarely faceplant with my scrappers, this is the one exception. My DB/Fire right now is sitting at level 43 and will probably remain there until they provide some buffs to either power set. -
Currently, you can drop a recipe in wentworths, perform a search for that item, then click the "view components" link to bid on the components for that item.
Suggestions:
1:
Provide a mechanism for a "pending bid". This bid has not actually been processed, but is sitting there waiting for your submission.
2:
Provide a link on the recipe that creates pending bids for each component.
So, if there are 4 components in the recipe, 4 pendng bids will be created.
Use the maximum bid price from the last 5 bids for each component as the default starting value. You can increase or lower as desired.
Another link to creating pending bids for the entire IO set would also be useful.
3:
Provide links to either submit each pending bid individually, or all of them.
An unrelated issue:
Provide a mechanism to allow alterations of existing bids. Currently, you have to cancel a bid and resubmit a new bid if you wish to increase the amount. -
Quote:Translation: We're pushing the existing engine as far as it can go and making no major graphical upgrades. That's a disappointment....
Introducing the graphical upgrade with Issue 17s Dark Mirror was just the beginning and the release of the Going Rogue expansion and Praetoria, a whole new dimension, utterly blew away expectation of what we could do with our engine. Were continuing to add new zones, -
I have my fire/rad (Eire Elemental) up to lev 36, I'll have to stop by Friday night ... sounds like a load of fun.
-
Sadly, the amount of "content" in these expansion packs keeps going down and down. A couple of these new auras look identical to existing auras IMO.
The cloaks aren't that great.
But, I guess they'll keep down this path as long as there are people willing to pay.
I've wanted the leafy aura for a long time - I added it to Jay's request thread. But I dont think one costume piece is worth $10. -
Quote:Yep, got the sabertooth. I believe I screwed up on the 8 pin power connector. The board has a plastic cap covering 4 of the holes - wasnt sure what to do with it, and the manual didnt say anything about it.OK, did you go with the Asus Sabertooth as a motherboard? I don't want to spend an hour downloading the manual (on dialup) so we can be on the same page so to speak and grab the wrong manual.
A assume you have both the main 24 pin power connector and the 8 pin (2x4) CPU power connector installed. I'm pretty sure you can't accidentally use one of the video card ones in that plug.
Edit: Running on the assumption that you have the Sabertooth, there is a MEM OK! button that is suppose to set the memory timings and voltages to safe settings. I assume you followed directions and installed them into the correct slots.
Remember there is power going to the motherboard even if the system is "powered" down. Only way to truly safe is to pull the power cord (or flip the PSU power switch) and then try to on/off button so all the capacitors discharge.
Check to see if any of the ground tabs on the I/O shield didn't accidentally get inserted into one of the ports, those things always seem to bend the wrong way as the motherboard gets pushed up against it.
If you take out the CPU again, look at all the pins in the socket to make sure none are bent or are stuck depressed.
The 6g of memory was installed in alternating (tan) slots as directed. -
Well, all parts received and put together, however the system is nonfunctional. Everything appears to be powered, all fans running in the case as well as the video cards...
However, red warning lights are on the motherboard beside the CPU and memory. I tried seating individual memory modules with no effect....
Tried running individual video cards, no effect.
Finally tried removing the heatsink and reexamining the cpu - no obvious damage to the chip that I can tell.
The other oddity is that the power switch will turn the system on, however it cannot be used to turn it off - I ended up using the switch on the power supply.
Any ideas? -
I might get maneuvers and assault from the leadership pool.... a little extra defense/damage couldnt hurt.

Trying to decide between these three cards:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127510
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130566
The third one looks a bit more ... protected. However the first two have fewer negative reviews. I'm also concerned about spacing - will there be sufficient space between the ports for these cards to fit? -
Quote:Yea Herc, the HX850 watt PSU could handle two HD 5870s, a pair of 1GB GTX 460s would be a walk in the park for it.
How hard is it to setup the SLI bridge? And does it require any additional hardware ( i.e. data cables )?
If a game isnt on their supported list, does it really get any benefit from this
configuration?
Father Xmas, if you had to choose, which would you pick: the single 5870 or the two 460s? -
Quote:Will the 850W power supply still be sufficient for the 2 460s?As you were considering going down the SLI route, might I possibly suggest skipping the Radeon 5870 and going with two Geforce GTX 460s instead? Two GTX 460s will in fact cost slightly less than a single Radeon HD 5870 and significantly outperform that single card in every conceivable benchmark by a wide margin. These cards have temperatures that are very competitive with the temps of AMD/ATI's 5000 series and consume less power individually than any of the Radeon HD 5800 series, while priced competitively with the Radeon HD 5770.
As of the new 260 driver set (currently still in beta, but should be WHQL within two weeks), Nvidia has re-enabled SLI support of CoH. Thanks to the return of SLI, I'm presently running two 460s with everything maxed in CoH at 1920x1200 resolution with 8x AA and getting no lower than 55 fps in any scenario and any map including Grandville and Praetoria (yes, things can occasionally get choppy on the ITF or during a mothership raid, but they will on any system). When I was running a 5870, pre or post 10.8 drivers, I couldn't max CoH and have still have playable frame rates: at best I'd be able to maintain roughly 30 fps in doors when solo; but when on a team or out doors, even on a fairly empty map, I'd only get about 20-25 fps.
My system is very similar to what you're considering: Core I7 920, presently overclocked at 3.8GHz; 6Gb Corsair DDR3 RAM; and Two GTX 460's in SLI. The only real difference is that I'm running with a SSD as opposed to a mechanical HD, which doesn't make much difference to CoH.
Have you tried running this system on other games such as Starcraft 2 or WoW?
My other concern would be the combined heat generation of 2 cards vs 1, would I need addtional fans? -
Thank you. So, as it stands, this combination of components is fully compatible?
I'm hoping the ATI 5870 will run Ultramode on max with no issues.... -
Created a wishlist on newegg, still a WIP:
https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/M...px?ID=12441631
Also, is it worth investing in a motherboard that supports SLI, just in case I want to switch to Nvidia in the future?
I'm assuming a non SLI card (ATI) will still work with such a motherboard... -
Quote:Ok, given your suggestion, the following will save me about $270.Don't see a power supply.
Memory for Socket 1366 CPUs should come is sets of three not twos or fours. Like this (sticking with your choice of Corsair DDR3-1600, Cas 9) for example.
CPU wise, a question. Given that the i7-960 is nearly double the price of an i7-950 ($270 more) but best case is less than 5% faster (3.2GHz Vs 3.06GHz), does that sound like a good place to spend your money? Just putting that out there.
Why the 640GB WD Blue series drive with the tiny cache Vs their better performing Black series? Choices there range from same size, twice the cache, $10 less; same size, 4x the cache, same price; 750GB, twice the cache, same price.
You may want to look into a 3rd party CPU cooler. Check out this page from a recent heatsink review at Frostytech to see which ones are ranked the best at cooling and/or noise. The Hyper 212 Plus from my $1375 rig is still very good and is also narrower, lighter and cheaper while still being within a few degrees of the best.

Why 6g vs 8g for memory, or is 8g just overkill for current applications?
I wanted to give Win7 plenty of room to breathe.
Replacing the caviar blue with the caviar black. I originally chose the blue because it had fewer "DOA" feedbacks than the black, although that might be because of fewer purchases?

From your feedback:
Does this replace the stock heatsink that comes with the CPU?

I think the case provides several more places for fans. Would you suggest buying additional fans, or will that result in it sounding like a jet turbine next to me? -
Hi,
I had already read your thread, and wanted something just a tad higher end - hopefully that I can keep around for 4+ years. I was somewhat disappointed that my current system is already defunct after only 2 1/2 years.
Can you look at these components and tell me if they'll work together? Also, any alternative components that might be better and/or less expensive:

Anything I'm missing? Will PCI Express 2.1 components work with a 2.0 motherboard? -
After running CoH on my system for the past few months on low settings, and getting extremely high video card fan speeds while playing Star Craft II and Disciples 3, I decided a new system is in order. ( I currently have a Dell XPS 420 with an 8800GT card). I'd like to play CoH and all the latest games on high settings with minimal strain on the system.
I normally would go with a new Dell system, but their customer service has gone down the tubes, and their XPS systems offer very little customization for gaming since they bought out Alienware.
I've never built a new system from scratch - replaced a few components, but that's about it.
The components I would like:
An ATI Radeon HD 5870 or equivalent Nvidia ( 470? ). The 5970 is fairly expensive, so I think I'll pass on getting the top end card. Several forum posters have stated that the high end Nvidia cards run fairly hot, while others point out ATI's driver issues - would appreciate any advice.
I'm open to lower end cards if you think this is overkill.
Intel Core i7 Processor
Intel motherboard with USB 3 support (LGA 1366 appears to be the high end)
500 to 640g Hard Drive ( Probably Western Digital or Seagate )
24x DVD Burner ( I dont play movies on my PC, so blueray isnt really a requirement at this time )
Decent Mid Sized Tower computer case that doesnt look like a Christmas Tree and is fairly cool and quiet ( Cooler Masters and Antecs appear to be the most popular. Anyone had any experience with this case?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ab=true&Page=2
Reliable power supply ( not sure the exact wattage I'll need, but I'm guessing around 750-850W )
6 to 8g of RAM ( I've been recommended Corsair )
I've been looking at various components on newegg, but frankly don't have the expertise for determining which are compatible with each other.
I priced an alienware at $2800 ( just the computer, no monitor/keyboard/mouse), but would prefer to keep it under $2000.
Any help would be appreciated. -
Another idea .. is to leave the current Fitness pool as is, and just duplicate it as an inherant power set with different power names. My BS/Dark scrapper could really, really use a double dose of stamina....
-
Quote:I cant argue with that, however, it would be nice if they would give at least a few additional slots to handle the additional 4 powers that each character is going to recieve. I would think 6 to 8 would be reasonable, and perhaps spread them out over each 10 level range...While I'm not fond of set mules as I consider them generally wasteful, I've also never subscribed to the idea that there is a certain way things "are meant to be" and that's how it "should" be. The numbers are what the numbers are. If a set mule makes sense, it makes sense.
Edit: I wonder if it would be possible for them to create a new concept of "inherent slots" that could only be used on inherent powers. That way we could slot stamina/health/etc., and still have the same number of slots available for the regular powers. -
Quote:I agree with the assessment about travel powers - I'll be taking Flight for my tanker for example. Toggles like combat jumping or weave, however, need additional slotting to be anything other than minimally useful. In a number of my builds, that one slot would have to hold an End Reduction just to minimize end usage on an already end hungry build.I think you meant that SOME powers without at least 3 slots are useless, because there's a whole mess of them in the power pools that are fine out of the box. Stealth pool, any of the travel powers except teleport, CJ, most of the leadership pool, hasten, air superiority, and I'm sure there are quite a few I'm missing. Even primaries and secondaries have powers that work just fine without any extra slotting
I've read a number of posts where people intend to take powers to serve as a "mule" for LoTG recharge reduction, which is a shame IMO. A power should be taken for what it is meant to be .... not as an unused power to hold a bonus.
