I....I can't decide. All...so....awesome...
-
I'm in agreement about A being the most versatile. I think it's pretty cool looking, too. My request would be that we get the neck base -without- the helm as well, maybe as a shoulder detail, or a detail...2? Whichever one "reaper" is in. It'd be a embellishment to the neck area for armored characters and robots, and also has a little bit of a magneto-ish vibe.
-
I gotta go with A here. The little darth vader style chestplate is awesome, and B looks a little too close to the stealth pattern, even with the glowy lines.
Glow lines also aren't that retro. Blinky light chestplates are. -
I'd take A. I like B a lot, but the rings, while awesomely retro, basically mean the pack would ONLY work for retro style costumes. This is a lot of the problem I had with the halloween pack. The parts are just so -specific-.
That said, if the rings were maybe an option for B, than I'd prefer that. -
Quote:It requires the modification of every animation currently existing in the game to work with these movement modes.
Furthermore, it requires every new animation created in the game going forward to be created with these additional movement modes in mind, increasing the number of animations needed for every new power set, emote, etc.
This is not a simple request, it is an exponential increase in time and work for every new animation that is put into the game.
Couldn't it at least be reworked to not drop toggles, or maybe put the character into "only affecting self" mode? This is something I've been running into a lot lately, as I use the hoverboard and carpet as alternatives to travel powers on some characters because of concept, and in some cases, there's a fair bit of really irritating retoggling to do whenever I get where I'm going. I kinda get that there should be drawbacks to keep the pool travel powers palatable. Same goes for the coyote run power, actually. -
Quote:"Hi, I'm Zenlon, and I like to invent other people's positions myself so I can knock them down more easily."This is sort of a goofy demand you've got, I wouldn't play any of these sets if the robotics in example (which are neither, male nor female) spawned Victorias. Throw a female ninja-skin into the Ninja set? Sure. But demanding that each Mastermind Set receive a female and crying the 'sexism card" is absolutely stupid.
Just an opinion.
Nobody's demanding that each Mastermind set recieve a female, and nobody's crying the sexism card.
The devs HAVE CLAIMED that one of the barriers to doing female MM pets is that sexism will RESULT. This thread is about shooting that claim DOWN.
Further, Nobody's demanding that each mastermind set recieve a female. What is being asked for is the ability for masterminds to customize their pets the way every other AT can customize their powers. By choosing between -options-, which prefferably would include the ability to choose between pets of different genders for those of us who would like to offer equal opportunity employment.
And just so you know, it doesn't make you look very good when you barrel into a thread and post a contrary opinion without even understanding the position you're arguing against. -
So in other words, you want all of the toys and none of the penalties?
-
Quote:No, but just because they've considered and answered it doesn't mean we can't say we think they're -wrong- and try to change their minds. They've already considered the subject. They've given answers as you pointed out in your post. And these answers were recent answsers, not something answered years ago.
Just because you disagree with their answer doesn't mean that they haven't considered it and already answered it. -

My other reply really was more a general reaction to the devs position than to this specific post, so I thought I'd do a proper reply to these points, because I feel it's worth addressing some things.
Quote:You don't -have- to police that much, honestly, just enough to convince the player base that such behavior is frowned upon. But you're ignoring the fact that this stuff -already goes on-, just not with MM pets. Also, running a pimp MM would either be largely innocuous (IE, the guy would have a vaguely offensive description and sexy female henchmen, and who should really care?) Or rather labor intensive (if the guy actually "sells services" and roleplays it) The person that's going to do the former is probably already running around with a character named "tanlines" that is using the white bikini texture to pretend his character is running around naked, and the character that's going to do the latter is probably already a member of one of the prostitute supergroups on Virtue. They will not do this because its too much of a liability and too much work policing not only the names but also the content that will be coming out of the player and the mastermind pets via the player.
Unless the female henchmen come with baked in sex appeal costumes, You're just not going to encourage any behavior in this game that isn't already taking place. What you -would- be doing is enabling a large variety of players to indulge in the kind of personal creativity that this game is famous for.
Quote:The only answer people have wanting this is just generic the players we report to you.
You, and the devs like you, seem to be operating on this weird assumption that there are hundreds of would-be pimps sitting off in the wings, thinking "Man, if only I had some way to live out my mysogynist sexual fantasies in the form of Mastermind gameplay" You want me to believe that's the case? Fine, prove it. Until you can do that, though, that argument doesn't move me at all. You, and the devs, have imagined a boogeyman into existence in the form of an upsurge of MM pimps.
Quote:Yea its easy for 10 people to report a player or players but its gonna be that 1 or 2 GMs that are on that will have to do MORE work trying to police these new issue on top of the other issues. If its roleplay content then who knows what they have to do to address the situation. They might have to witness the occurrence. I know for sure I wouldn't just accept another players word that a certain player said or did such and such. What if the person didn't like that other person.
They're -already- -doing- it, they're just not utilizing the clunky MM pet controls for it.
Quote:You can make all the analogies you want but in the end its gonna be more work for them. You kidding yourself if you think they want more work. They can't moderate these forums and they are semi static. Someone post a thread and usually leaves it alone. So its easier for someone to come here and see the violation and who the person is and that is barely addressed. In the game a player can say something and move on or log off. I have seen players show off what is clearly comic book hero knock offs and then log the toon off.
You need to find something better then I will report and you respond. -
Quote:No, what needs to be done is the devs of this game need to make up their damn mind as to whether sex is something to be shunned. They're terrified of the prospect, apparently, of having MM's running around "pimping" their pets. But then we get a female costume in the gunslinger set that is deliberately patterned after the prostitutes from old westerns. (don't get me wrong, those costume pieces are more versatile than people give them credit for, but even so.) The BP sorcerers are skinhead freaks with war paint and crazy face, and the new BP sorcer-esses- are hot scantily clad women with fashion model hair and loincloths. Mother Mayhem runs around in the thongiest thong I've ever thonged, and Sister Solaris's costume is -see through-. (Actually, Sister Psyche's outfit is partially sheer as well, which is why I find it rather absurd when people write comics where she gets huffy because -teenagers- are picturing her in her -underwear-, but I'm getting sidetracked)They will not do this because its too much of a liability and too much work policing not only the names but also the content that will be coming out of the player and the mastermind pets via the player.

Don't misunderstand my position, mind you. I'm not opposed to a bit of sex appeal here and there. (Far from it, though it irks me sometimes that its all aimed at straight males. I get why, though.) But if the devs want a tip on how to avoid having MMs objectifying their pets, Step one might be to not dress them with sexualized art assets. Give us female ninjas who wear the same getup the male ninjas do. I'd laugh in the face of the "pimp" who tries to sell his girl's services while they wear costumes approximately as revealing as your average burka. I wouldn't be satisfied with such limited customization, but at least it'd be something.
But even aside from -all- of this, the fact of the matter is that a society that lets people do what they want-and reap the social consequences themselves) tends to be a healthier society than one that imposes a value system on a populace that doesn't share it.
"Some people will abuse it" is not a valid excuse for not doing something that otherwise benefits a large portion of the mastermind player base.
It is also worth floating the fact that a large number of the people I've talked to talk about henchmen customization like it's a foregone conclusion. If they haven't heard the dev's position on it, they just -assume- it's coming. You know why? Because in -every other aspect of the game-, the devs prioritize player freedom and customization over prudery and sexual apprehension. Just food for thought. -
Not to be a grammar nazi, but you don't use an apostrophe for pluralization. ;p

My favorite part of this is that the "experienced" powers that my 50's are saddled with would no longer be useless.
As for liking your bar being full, well, if it means that much to you, go into options and disable earning XP for your 50's before such a system were to go live. Or post-50 XP could just not influence the UI in any overt way. But I disagree that it "cheapens the achievement" in any way, certainly in any way that is significant enough to outweigh the positives of the idea. -
Quote:This is untrue, actually. I was -there- for this, and we didn't have more skin colors, what we had were -costume- colors that closely matched some of the normal skin tones, and those colors were taken out and replaced with some of the orangey browns we have now.We used to have more skin colors available. But that was changed because of players making their skin and tights colors identical thus creating "nude" characters. Pretty childish on the part of the players (many of whom are children thus excused) and Cryptic for overreacting.
Hmmmm... Maybe now that it's NCsoft we can get the full color spectrum back.
(Aaaand arise, thread! Arise from the darkness!) -

I need Midnight Dodger, so if you've got room for an MA/regen scrapper, I'll come along with Swift.
-
I'm up to give it a go with Swift. I've just been busy with school the past couple weeks.

Quote:For a given value of "Problem". I have a couple characters who have "energy" or "astral forms", of the like frequently seen in comics, and I've got a Peacebringer with a costume similar to Sunstorm or Moonfire, and I think it looks pretty cool. The big thing that bothers me about all the old-style tights is that they really don't look or feel like tights. Part of this is just the flat texture and color masking, but it feels like paint, not clothing. White tights and white skin look exactly the same, and that's a problem.
But I am all for more texture options, and have other characters that would totally use an old school "tights" option. Especially I'd like to see one that is generic enough that as many of the existing color patterns as possible can be overlaid on top of it as possible. The issue with defense, as I mentioned in the other thread, is that it is somewhat restrictively associated with only a couple of color patterns in the creator. That's not -bad-, mind you, and I love that it fits with both it's own pattern (defense) and one of the older ones (stripe 3, i think?). And I love that Stealth does the same thing with....Stripe 3. ;p But neither of those patterns are generic enough to work in any real sense with any of the other patterns. (or many of them, anyway)
So I'd like to see, first and foremost, a tights option that gives a generic, subtle texturing to the whole body, without lending to a particular pattern. If it's going to have briefs seams, a-la some of the golden agey costumes that were in the other thread, those should match up with the briefs/bikini color patterns, maybe, (so that the seam lines up with the color division) but other than that, I'd like it to avoid associating itself with a particular costume pattern.
Aside from that, in the future, I'd be glad to have other patterns that happen to line up really well with existing costume color patterns, and, again, I really like me sum textured/detailed "with skins" options, particularly ones that give more personality to some of the existing "painted on" shapes. -
Quote:The thing with the Defense set, which I love, by the way, is that it works exceptionally well with a couple of patterns, and doesn't line up at all with many of the others. Which you expect, Given you can't line up with all the innumerable patterns on one costume texture. But unless a guy wants all his characters to all have the same basic pattern on all their outfits, you have to stray away from the defense set, which makes alternatives attractive.Very useful to know. I figured that the Defense set would've covered it as well, yet there were still requests for more super-hero stuff after that shipped. Wanted to figure out exactly what you guys were after.
One of the things worth mentioning though, is that some basic spandex tights, with seams and some texture details here and there, could have any pattern applied to it while still looking attractive.
Personally, I would love to see more "with skin" options turned into "plus" versions, like excess, hearts, etc. -
-
Aaaah, crap, I forgot, I've got a thing tonight, so I won't be around after all. Catch you guys on the next one.
-
I'll bring Swift along.
Edit: Nevermind, have a club function I have to attend tonight. Derp. -
I don't really have the time to look through 20+ pages of posts to see if this has been mentioned, but I'm pretty sure this is the place to bring it up, so here goes:
Is it possible to alter whether path auras work at low movement speeds? Because here's the thing. Because of how the path auras work, auras like "streak" become INCREDIBLY bright if you're moving -slow-. This means that you leave a more pronounced streak when you're slowed or walking than when you're running at full speed.
Not only does this kinda defeat the purpose of the auras, but it basically renders the walk toggle utterly absurd looking.
So is it possible to have these effects scale -up- with speed, rather than down? Or barring that, at least have it so they don't "turn on" until you're actually running? I was seriously stoked about the "streak" effect for my speedster types, but the instant I toggled "walk", I was immediately on my way back to the tailor.
