1. I do not team with emp defenders. If my team NEEDS an empath, its time to log and sleep off the booze. In this game strict heal's are a waste of a party spot. Trollers at least can troll when not healing. Rad, Termal, Kin, Dark can heal AND do other things like buff/debuff. And I love TA/A or bubblers any day of the week. And ive known a few of those that will add medicine for heal other, stim, and rez, and use them only in dire circumstances. then again ive known blasters to get those powers too.

Throwing Set?

My issue with "energy hammer" is usually these are melee weapons. Steel uses a hammer that builds kinetic force by flying around, and stores the force, but steel usually swings the hammer and has iron armor. Gambit is super reflexes, and charges up melee weapons, or thrown weapons, but he has not distance fighting. 15, maybe 20 feet is his limited range. In this game I have issues with dual pistols since the range of a pistol is wuite a bit less than rifles. When AR has a range of about 80, DP should have a range of about 30. At that point you need melee defenses. Generally charged weapons are never used much outside of melee combat. Blasters embody long range combat. The secondary is mostly there more as a "just in case" thing.

Really I would rather see "Blapper" get its own AT, Move damage on Defenders up to .8 or 1.0, and have Blaster drop all of its snipes and really long range attacks and just have 30-60 foot range ST attacks on primary except a ranged nuke as the T9, and melee/PBAoE as their secondary with a PBAoE Nuke as the T9, take away 20% of their max hp. Oddly enough that makes defenders the new ranged killers, and blasters become rolling glass nukes, with both AT's now distinctly playing differant, without defenders "having" to play healers.
3. I heavily disslike being on a team with people that use alot of KB. That said, I give everyone a chance to prove they can use it well. I play a blaster mostly, and yet I'm not a fan of KB. KU or KD are fantastic. Keeps enemies clumped togeather which for any melee toon, or AoE toon its great.

A few things I have learned....
1)KB is great to pin guys to walls.
2)KB will make me want to kill you if there is a raid, or invasion and you are in the middle of all the scrappers using it.
3)KB from above works almost exactly like KD, so i have no problems with flying Nrg. Gale from storm should never ever be used past lvl 3.

If you want to be successfull Nrg blaster, team up with a troller (as others have pointed out) and let them immob/hold all the guys you attack. This keeps baddies off you if they get free, while not pushing them away when people are wanting to kill.
4. There is not role playing in MMO's, hence why I never use RPG in the name. MMOG is what I call them, cause even if you are "IC" most everyone else is not. The first time someone asks for an insp (how do you give or use tangable insperation which is an idea, to have limited time physical affect on someone?) or calls for a reset, talks about slotting powers, etc, RP is lost. Even the attitude of "i got self rez, so i can die" is not RP. Even Wolverine cares about the pain, at least a little.

As for looking at badges, I have a few "character concepts" built around never leaving the MA building except to level. One of my MM's back story (I look at RP in CoX kinda like Oots, a bunch of characters that know they are in a game or fantasy world) is that he is a decker (in the shadow run sense) and uses bots/traps as his programs to kill the security programs (enemies). He wont ever get badges outside of MA, Vet, VIP, VIP Gold Member, and a few other account wide ones. Heck I accedently got a exploration badge, and decided to delete since he shouldn't have one.

As for MA ruining the game, it comes to this: Eaither you play inside MA and level like crazy. You play outside MA and enjoy old content, as well as TF's. You play both, and get the best of both worlds. You throw a hissy fit and leave, which our community doesnt need people throwing hissy fits, its jsut a mood breaker. Or you work for the competition, and slander the game that they orriginally made, and are trying to remake, trying to take customers from us over there, because CoX is just too strong for them to actually have a chance. Personally I assume anyone that starts Doom and Gloom, or yet another complaint thread that has been seen a million times before, to be working for, or with the other company. Being in their beta, then coming over here to complain is what they want you to do. They want unrest to be brought upon the titan that is CoX cause they know they don't have a chance otherwise. If you don't believe CoX will continue standing, then why are you here.

Simply put, Get over it, Get on with your life, play how you want and understand some people want to play otherwise, or Get off CoX and go play with the other turn coats. I've played the game since just after issue 8, and honestly, i quit cause I had no job right around Issue 11. I came back just after Issue 12, and played until the game became a boring grind-fest before I14. I had done just about every TF, played boths sides, Played mishes, radios. It was all getting quite old. So I quit. I tinkered around with MA a bit when it came out.

Then I got the going Rogue and Issue 16 notifications. I started playing. Now I am having fun again. MA is like playing roulette, or you can have favorate ones and play them out. My SG runs TF's every 2 weekends. I am playing the best of both worlds. If i get bored with an Arc, I can put it's ID aside, and play some other ID. I am having fun. I don't care about other people. Me, my wife, our roommate, and our SG runs togeather. If we PUG, we boot or quit if people are ruining it for us. Noobs are only a problem if you stay with them, and they refuse to listen to the party. We were all noobs once, if not to this game, some other. We only learn by someone helping us out.

Gratz if you read the wall of text. I will put the most pertinate line from it down here since for most people they only read the first few and last few lines: Simply put, Get over it, Get on with your life, play how you want and understand some people want to play otherwise, or Get off CoX and go play with the other turn coats.
5. Oh man, Server ques are gonna be packed. Just imagine, I16 comes out the first friday of October, and we have 2x xp that weekend. I can't tell if I want this to happen this way or not.

Each AT plays differantly than every other AT. I cannot play a defender. Low damage, no real mez's, i don't like playing heal's and if you don't have heals you deal with people complaining about you not healing them.

I've played a scrapper to 50, and it was alright, but all those ST attacks make it a bit boring, only Fire Sword Circle really made it fun.

Untill recently I couldnt really get into Trollers. The pacing feels off. Slow when i want to go fast, fast when i need more time. That is untill i made a earth/bubbler and had quite a bit of fun.

Tanks are tanks. They do okay damage, and can take a punch, but if a battle takes that long, whats the point. I generally like a faster pace than tanks allow. Gimme a blaster or scrapper anyday.

Villians side, I havnt layed much outside of MM, but those guys can be fun. I love my thugs, especially gang war. MMs can move fairly quick, and are as active or passive as you want them to be.

But Blasters.... thats a much different story. Targetting, hiding, clicking a power, jumping out an back in, pulling one guy, ripping hime up, watching the scrapper go in, counting to three, rushing in, nukeing, taking a couple of hits, keeping pace with the scrapper, riding the red line of almost death, pulling aggo off the tank, dodgeing, weaving, popping a purple and green, watching at everything dies, watching the scrapper die, the trollers read newspapers as their imps die, the defenders heal you and rez everyone else, burning through mob after mob untill finally you die, watch as everyone recovers, and you use an awaken, breakfree, a blue, and a green. moving ahead as they all regroup, targetting a guy, hiding.... Thats a rush. Blasters set the pacing for a party. While the regen and WP scrappers try to keep up.

Tanks and scrappers job is to soak the alpha.
Scrappers play cleanup for you.
Tanks keep aggro off you.
Trollers keep the enemies clumped togeather for your aoe's and nuke's.
Defenders buff/debuff/.
7. Im rolling a Sonic/MM for a few reasons:

2 nukes, 3 attack cones 1 sleep cone, 3-4 single target attacks, Res and Rec debuffs. Its been alot of fun so far. other than that I was looking into /Nrg.

Bail Excuses

Actually the poweroff excuse i can use... got the router and 3 computers an a 2 hour backup. As long as the phoneline is in tact (DSL) we can lose power, finish the mish, and log. Priorities. Fridge an lose power for a few days, but we cant just leave games without a proper bye.

Best one i've heard was actually a roommate of ours. We were running a posi with the SG and every mish hes just stop moving his toon for like 15 minutes. Then he would run around a bit. No notice or anything. As it turns out he was in the bathroom every time. Finally we asked him if he was okay, and he said "i got to log, im gonna sleep." To this day we still don't know what was going on.

One of the best "honest" ones i got from an SG mate was "AFK, vodka not agreeing with me" followed up with "that took too long to write, gotta log and hose down the keyboard." I cant be sure how true that was, but the mental image was fantastic.

10. My vote has been and always will be: give all of fitness to each person at level 1. Every single build I have seen that isn't WP or Regen has 3 fitness powers in it, ending with health and stam. Every last one, and alot of regeners and WPers use fitness too. This also opens up another pool choice instead of the standard 1-3 travel, fitness, and possibly med/leadership/fighting/conceal that everyone uses.

if not that, then why not just boost recovery and regen rates by the exact amount health and stam tripple slotted add, and get rid of the pool. Sure some people wont have numia's on health and will drop it somewhere else (rest maybe) but otherwise it affects noone to make this sort of change.
11. Its funny, i hit 50 on my ele/dev blaster w/o a single debt badge. I wasn't afraid to fight (just ask any of my crew that hit 50 with me) but I played smart. Count to 3 after the tank rushed in, look at how the battle is going, know when to step back an teleport people to the healer, know how to pull when things get rough. We usually ran at a fast pace. Rado's were our prefurred way to level, with a TF from time to time. That being said, with all the PLing that MA has bread, I like seeing a debt badge or two on my teammates. But having more than a couple before 40 means you cant play the game and will get me killed. I don't care about debt, I care about downtime from party wipes.

Your Blasters...

first 50:Ele/Dev/Fire alt build for munitions.
This toon was, and is a blast to play. Anytime i get bored with another toon, i alt on him, play a for a few days, and love every minute of it.

My other blasters:
10 fire/fire
13 ele/ele
My current project character: Sonic/MM
Waiting to make a Pistol/*
Remaking my first toon (was emp/rad defender) into a rad/nrg

I have deleted:
12 nrg/nrg
16 AR/Nrg
35 Psi/MM
21 Fire/Ice
14 Ice/Ice

Reasons for deleting some of these (others i deleted cause they just wen't fun)
Nrg/Nrg: My wife plays scrappers exclusivly, and KB is a pain for melee toons. Heck even my blasters dont like teaming with people who use KB (KD or KU are fine in my book)

Psi/MM: late game every Lt and Boss has heavy psi res it feels like (this was pre MA), TV was a royal pain, etc.
13. During a thread during the doom and gloom of pre I13, I was reading a thread about shields, where the topic went to power customization. There were about 5 posts that really caught my attention, to a point I had saved the thread, which is no longer saved cause the server migration destroyed my fave threads list. But basicly the discussion went like this:

--------
BaBs: We can't to power customization because if you change X in the color sceme, that alters Y and Z in a very bad way. Altering the particles and glow affects in said ways could have some nasty repercussions. Sometimes I hate how they orriginally did things.

Knowledable poster: Well what if you counterbalance by doing <Blank>

BaBs: Well then that has this undesired outcome.

Knowledable poster: Well then you might try it this other way.

BaBs: Well that wont work cause of.... but there might be a way using (a little of A and a little of B) to give limited color options. It wouldn't be all colors, but you could fit colors based off.... (rambles a bit)... but I would need a few more people helping, and we wouldn't have like any new animations for a while...
-----------

And then they hire a bunch of new employees, and we have some customization that was thought to be impossible.

Really the only customization I want to still see is something like for each 50 I have, I want a build your own AT. You pick an AT bonus, a primary, and a secondary (kinda like MA but before MA came out I just wanted it to be absolutely any two powersets so you could play a Regen/WP toon if you really wanted), and you just play as a new Epic type. But between Rogue letting me bring my MM hero side, and 16 letting me play a Rad/Nrg blaster, i'm happy.
14. I love RotP with 6 slots of stupify -> absolute amazement. Recharges quick, does massive stun, some kb, and gives global rec. Then again, im just wierd.
15. Ele/Dev Blaster

I was in the same state, then i rolled Ele/Dev. It does a little of everything, not alot of anything. It can team, solo. It has room for pools, or you can pick every power on the list and still have fun. I loved playing the character so much, i got 3 friends playing it, and they love it.

My second 50 wasn't quite as fun, but is still great. You cant solo untill you are 50 with it, but in teams of scrappers and tankers with maybe some troller or blaster backup, Fire/Shield Scrapper is a strong pick. Lots of damage that parties love, some self buffs/buff other powers that make melee teams fantastic.
16. Ok so heres a little thing to keep in mind.... some things in this game are worth more than DPS if in the right hands. Ele/ is one of those sets. I have a 2 year old 50 Ele/Dev/Fire. In my 1-50 grind I died between 10 and 15 times. My groups were always 7 or 8 people, and all we did were TF's, Radios, and holiday events like Rikti Invasions (that was a great summer). No PLing, no MA's, just a bunch of people PUG'in with some other people, leveling. No one ever said I wan't carrying my own weight on the team. Ele if Frankenslotted well saps and does decent damage, you have a bit of mez to complement trollers and defenders, and you have a pet that if you really know what your doing, can be the greatest tool in your utility belt, but if used poorly, will get you and others killed. Me and another troller could usually get holds on AV's, if even for a few seconds. Trust me haveing an AV unable to attack 2 out of every 5 seconds is fantastic. Sparky can attack around courners without pulling aggro while the rest of the team bio's. In the heat of battle sparky is a great way of getting good defiance while adding to party DPS, and doesnt stick around so long as to cause trouble from group to group. And when all else fails, with a couple presses of the button, you can sap bosses and under. 2 or 3 Ele/ and /Kin's working togeather can sap AV and keep them from Nuking.

/Dev was a great complement for a few reasons. On really hard targets, but not AV's setup a bunch of mines where you might retreat/pull to. If things go sour, let the mobs suicide themselves. If the party is wiping alot, these mines will save your life. Also there just isnt anything like toe bombing a large group of mobs. Secondly Gundrone is sparky v2.0. GD+VS is about a 70% defiance bonus to your next attack or two. bringing these out, using TB, and letting GD and VS do cleanup while you recover is amazeing. The other powers in /Dev are hit or miss, but GD is mandatory.

i also picked fire mastery, for one power: Rise of the Pheonix. Now you are prolly wondering why, if I've only about 12 times in my grind. Well it comes to one thing, at 50 debt is the spice of life. I no longer care about getting debt, and actually since this is my badge hunter, i need it. In the first day after getting 50, i made over 5 million debt. Within a week 50 mill debt. My SG used to care about debt cause I cared about it, after i got them killed a bunch, they understand, and embrace the way i play. I use Rise as a way of refilling end. I solo 8 person spawns. They love it. Not once have they said I don't do my part.

DPS is great, every team needs it, but saying Ele/ is weak due to lack of DPS is silly. You are still doing 10x defender damage. And you got plenty of tricks to help the party.
17. My vote, Sonic/Nrg. Res debuff, and the ability to greatly enhance the debuff, its great for large teams (you not only up yor damage, but everyone else's). Outside of that, My first 50 was a Ele/Dev blaster, and I loved every level of it. Its not a build for everyone though.

I will point out something about /dev. It is great for soloing, and if your team is facing pwipe after pwipe, the mines are fantastic. But noone wants to wait for you to setup. Also with MA being the "way to play" now, noone ever goes up against anything that /dev is good with. If its that hard, they just reset and pick an easier arc, or decide tay would rather have more /kins on their team.

tragically, MA killed my Ele/Dev, but hey my fire/shield scrapper is just eating all this up.

/Shield - HELP!

Use no +rec time IO's on any attacks, use 2 end red on every attack, and all toggles get 1 end red if they are less than .3/sec and 2 if they are more. Drop fighting, pick up stealth+CJ+Manuvers all with 3 def, and stealth+manuvers with 2 end red. I have absolutely no problems (and never have had any problems) with this build, and you hardly have any down time between your 5 or so attacks for +rec time to matter. If you care that much get hasten instead. At 50 spec our for def with sets.

Redraw Q

Something of note. Redraw was said to be fixed sothat a:it is consitered in the animation time as to not slow you down, and more importantly b:you no longer get caught up in perma redraw from button mashing. These were fixed sometime around issue 11 or 12. If you are button mashing you will either get the quickened draw+animation (so that takes as much time as the regular animation) or your weapon just hot swaps into your hand.

Example.... my Axe Tank uses ghost slaying axe also. Both have redraw. If i button mash, half the time i get the draw+quick animation, the other half i do the regular animation while the axe magically morphs in my hand to the other one.

Another example: my wife has a kat/SR scrapper. When she uses her clickable mez protection, her sword gets pulled away. In the heat of battle, sometimes she gets the draw+quick animation, other times she just hits them with her sword appearing like a light saber. She never gets stuch in redraw.

To be sure as to if the animation times are truly the same, FRAPS it. But really redraw isn't a problem anymore, so you shouldn't really be worried about it. Most people that still complain about it are from back in the day and still expect it to be a "nerf." Back then redraw was balanced with a higher base accuracy. Not we get better base accuracy & same animation times.
20. I just want Coh to allow "native" resolution for multi screening, instead of stretching. I got 3 of the same displays, and it makes me sad that i cant have super wide screen mode on (instead everone and everything gets pulled out of proportion so even an 8 ft tall twig like toon looks grossly overweight). If not that i wish we could set a window for all of the chat windows, nav, bars, map... etc, and one to jsut enjoy the look of the game. I hate wasting such a beautiful game on having to see all that other stuff to survive. On my mac this all becomes even worse. I think you should move your dock onto the left most "wall" and play on your middle or rightmost display. Thats how i do it (usually in windowed mode so i can have Paragon Wiki open on the other screen).

Someday I can hope that those of us who use multiple screens will be taken into consiteration when MMOs are made/developed.

/Shield - HELP!

I love my fire/shield toon. Some advise... Focus on your killing powers earlier. Non-set shields is squishie. The boost comes in Against All Odds. Between the +dmg, and your attack powers, you should be killing the enemy before you worry about them killing you. Secondly, Leadership is godly. I waited far too long for leadership. Third, If i was to do it all over again.... I would choose dark instead of fire. Fire is awesome DPS, but dark makes your dodge even better.

Lastly, know that you are playing for the end game, not the early game. I felt uber weak untill mid to late 30's. At 45 my sg was having me switch off my lvl 50 blaster, to get onto my fire/shield scrapper when we went AV farming. The bonuses you add to the party, and the damage you put out makes you feel like a full scrapper that just so happens to also buff the party nearby (like all the other melee's on the AV) If you find it doen't fit you, stop playing it. Its not an easy playstyle, but for old school Blappers, Alpha Blasters (BU+Shield charge+Fire sword circle is a great opener), Splat Trollers, Offenders.... you will find shields plays more to you than you could ever imagine.
22. I tend not to play with NRG toons. But that is my choice. KB is annoying at best for me. Yes even my blaster would rather the power balance points your attack have that go into KB go into other more useful effects. As a scrapper, i find playing "run after the last guy into the next group before the blasters/trollers have recovered" is an annoying game. I don't need them to live, but i know they want some fun too. On my blaster, playing "run after <that guy> into the middle of all the enemy ranged AOE's" to be equally annoying. KB for me has always been a game of chasing MOBs when i could be killing more. Now don't get me wrong.... a well placed gale, or and knock down power is more than welcome, its the over abundance that NRG brings i find to be too much. Then again I am a team player, and I want everyone to get some kills, not just the scrappers.
23. Haruu

Banned Missions

I am a blaster. Any fight I live through, I do so with my health in the red.

I am a defender. I can survive anything I can buff/debuff through, which takes time. Big Alphas kill me dead.

I am a controller. If I have my Imps i win, otherwise life is just a stalemate that is boreing.

I am a tanker. I can solo 16 guys at once, though it might take me a moment. Invincible isn't an issue, since I cannot die.

I am a scrapper, I have heard of settings less than invincible, but have never used them. A map full of AV's might slow me down from time to time, but really nothing ever does.

A farm for a scrapper might actually be a challenge for others. It sounds to me like the devs want everyone to play scrappers so that they can tell what a farm is off that.

This is why i deleted my defender. He couldn't solo at all. even heroic took forever. So I find it a bit difficult to accept that the devs "know" what a farm is/isnt based off the gameplay. Sure if the name says "1337 f@R/\/\Zx0Rz b@|)g1|\|" its an easy call. But otherwise I don't see perminately banning MA slots as intelligent.

Give a guy a gun, he will shoot something.

Tell people with a guns "it is wrong to shoot people" and most people will comply. A few will go out of their way to shoot someone cause its fun.

In a court of law ignorance of a law is no excuse. But this is not a court. This is a busness. As such they need to look at their bottom line. I love CoX and hate farming. At the same time I like killing stuff with my blaster. I will not make a "hard" arc (like extreme lieutinants with ele blast/kin.... i learned about that the hard way). I wont intentionally make one very easy.... but i want to make sure i win with very few deaths (as a blaster some are expected). But when 50 bajillion scrappers log into my mish and say its just another easy farm, i lose my slot. Thats just silly.

As a side note, I am also the kind of person that plays the game for the battles. I don't really care about the text. I read CoX history on the wiki where i can read alot of content at once. I don't care about ten seconds of story. I care about seeing how my new build/powers stack up against hordes of baddies. I play so i can cheer at my successes. I yell at the stupid mobs for killing me. I play for the action, not the story. So my arcs will most likely be story light. Why is that wrong?

My fun, is not your fun, is not his fun, is not her fun. Farming maybe fun for some, i dont like farming. But many of my habbits with playstyle are similar to a farmers due to where i get my jollies. The only real differance is i finish mishes so i can keep cycleing through groups. Oh wait MA makes that differance not matter anymore.

A real solution to MA farming would be: diminishing returns for every arc you do back to back, Diminishing returns for every arc you do within a 24 hour period, and no xp/tickets for running the same arc more than once a day. Doom and gloom aside that would atleast promote people into playing multiple farms to get the same effect.

25. I would rather see a history badge both sides that has a few plaques talking about a neutral named "Lighthouse" who brought paragon city (or the world) through some dark time, and was a beacon to all those who needed a voice. Then in the history badge, it would bring up the forum. LH looked out for everyone, on both sides as far as ive seen (been reading the forums for about a year now, only got an account recently) He was the reasonable voice for the Devs, putting out fires for them as best he can, and a voice for us to them. He looked at how we felt, and was most likely the person that would show the devs the areas that need help. He kept the community from crashing on jagged rocks. Why not give a virtual representation in game.

Another cool idea would be a Pocket D task/strike Force where you start it with Lighthouse. total co-op. Anyway, The new person will have some hefty cement shoes to fill...
