Throwing Set?
"Energy Hammer", has better options for being uniquely different for Blasters. Some attacks would be Thrown while others would be Melee. The Melee attacks could grant a short-lived Regen or Resistance buff or be high Knockback/Down while ranged attacks could be Knockdown. The difference would be the balancing of Ranged and Melee attacks in a Blaster primary. And of course Energy Hammer is very much a super-power while Knives are more fantasy RPG. Also Throwing Knives are available now as the Natural Origin bonus.

energy hammer ? as a blaster set ? I think this is crazy ... the same crazyness that asked dual pistols for scrappers ^^
But throwing things would make a nice set, I'd vote for the shuriken with a nunjitsu manipulation as a secondary (with a katana or a small dagger in it))
Obviously Hurl Boulder would be in. However, just imagine the tier 9!
Hurl Car
Lift a light truck or vehicle off the ground, then hurl it at an enemy, smashing him and all enemies around him. This attack causes extreme damage and can knock most enemies back.
This would be more along the lines for Scrappers then blasters.

If anything, I could see it existing some time in the future, but I would expect it to be a generic thrown projectiles set that allows you to reskin the various animations as the projectile of your choice (re: weapon customization allows you to pick whether you're throwing cards, knives, shuriken, etc). I wouldn't expect any of the Tanker style throwing powers (re: Hurl Boulder), though I would expect the ability to choose the individual projectiles on a power-for-power basis to come along with it (cuz that AoE you get could be a grenade, an exploding shuriken, or a doll and have nothing to do with the fact that most of the time you're throwing knives around).

Katana, Shurikens, Exploding Shurikens, and Throwing Knives already exist in CoX. Just get them to give Ninjitsu to Scrappers and you are all set now. Let's get something that is really new to CoX.
Energy Hammer or Empowered Hammer just ranks higher in terms of Super-Hero roleplay than any other thrown item set could. It offers a great many super-hero roleplay options from ancient warrior, to space adventurer, to mutant monster, to technologic hero. Think about it.

But the types of characters that were using hammers are not blasters. Thor is obviously one of these 'iconic' toons, but he aint no blaster.
Man of Steel has similiar type of weapon, ball and chain, he aint no blaster.

In any event in CoX, High Damage+Range=Blaster, some varients would be Corrupter, Defender, but they trade-off the high damage for heals and controls. CoX already has War Mace for Melee archtypes so Man of Steel is covered, but I think you'd take Super Strength if you were the Man of Steel.
A few days ago I mentioned CoX has no Thrown Weapon set for Blasters in the discussion about Dual Pistols and I suggested thrown Energy Hammer could be a unique Blaster set that was very super-hero oriented because I wanted to see more than just Dual Pistols in the upcoming, "Going Rogue", expansion. Mainly because I think Dual Pistols is kind of limited in it's super-hero roleplay applications. You can roll a western character, soldier/agent, or criminal. Assault Rifle covers all this except Western types, so I feel Dual Pistols is just a re-hashing of covered character types. However players begged for Dual Pistols so here they come, but I am not impressed. So I threw out the idea for thrown Energy Hammer as something new to be included that would have more Super-Hero RP value than Dual Pistols.
I just think CoX is a Comic Book MMORPG so the focus of at least some new powersets should be there. Although I like Dual Blades and will probably like Dual Pistols they seem very pedestrian in the world of super-powers. How much farther could the game go if some true super-powers were added also?

My issue with "energy hammer" is usually these are melee weapons. Steel uses a hammer that builds kinetic force by flying around, and stores the force, but steel usually swings the hammer and has iron armor. Gambit is super reflexes, and charges up melee weapons, or thrown weapons, but he has not distance fighting. 15, maybe 20 feet is his limited range. In this game I have issues with dual pistols since the range of a pistol is wuite a bit less than rifles. When AR has a range of about 80, DP should have a range of about 30. At that point you need melee defenses. Generally charged weapons are never used much outside of melee combat. Blasters embody long range combat. The secondary is mostly there more as a "just in case" thing.
Really I would rather see "Blapper" get its own AT, Move damage on Defenders up to .8 or 1.0, and have Blaster drop all of its snipes and really long range attacks and just have 30-60 foot range ST attacks on primary except a ranged nuke as the T9, and melee/PBAoE as their secondary with a PBAoE Nuke as the T9, take away 20% of their max hp. Oddly enough that makes defenders the new ranged killers, and blasters become rolling glass nukes, with both AT's now distinctly playing differant, without defenders "having" to play healers.

but i agree that defenders should get better damages because they heal/buff/debuff most of the time so it wouldn't change a lot but it be nice for them.
blaters are perfect the way they are and changing the range from 80 to 40 wouldn't change anything because range is range no matter the distance.
if a mob is trying to attack you with his pistol you'll still be ranged and if he wants to slice you he has to go to melee, so no point changing the range distance.
Do you really think the actual range of weapons is the same in coh ? you think you can fire a bullet as far as someone else can shot an arrow ? It's still a game we'll never get that
I wanted to see something like this.. not exactly knives or cars (ridiculous!), but I wanted to see more power sets that are different from one another.. not just *Sticks arm(s) out and a random colored ink blot shoots out*, and the weapon sets are kind of meh as well.
I like the sound of Rat-tat-tat-tat from the AR, but all you see is the dude jiggling and some muzzle flash (and the brass it leaves behind, some people like it :/ ) Archery is ok I guess...
What about more different power sets that CAN be ranged damage but don't involve shooting something or throwing something.. like how about "insect swarms" or something like that (ok.. I'm not the best at coming up with this stuff, but thats why I'm not getting paid to do so )
When all hope seems to have drifted away.. and the shadows of death creep closer. Do not fear or cower.. do not make peace or seek salvation. For I will be there, supporting your movement. So give me your pain, weakness, despair, fear and doubt.. The Light will grant you another stand.
The Snakes on Vill side have throwing knives. Also you could add cards possibly and shuriken since the scrappers use those for ancillary sets.
This might give birth to many Gambit makes. I haven't thought through this but possibly bombs as well for a take off the jester in the game Gauntlet: Dark Legacy
