For bs or katana;

Laser Beam Eyes
Energy Torrent

Both cause redraw, correct?

Yes

Anything not in the BS or Katana sets will cause redraw.

LBE, Energy Torrent, Kick, Regen heals, Practiced Brawler, anything.

Katana doesn't cause redraw? Not in my experience.

Okay, I'll explain what I meant.

If you have Broadsword, Katana, Dual Blades, Spines, Claws, Assault Rifle, Archery, Battle Axe, or War Mace any click powers you use that are not part of that powerset will cause redraw.

If you are a Broadsword/Regen scrapper and use the following powers: Hack, Parry, Disembowel, Head Splitter, Reconstruction, Parry, Whirling Sword you will put your sword away for Reconstruction and redraw it for Parry.

ANY weapon set will have redraw any time you use a power that is not part of that weapon set.

Make sense now? The OP was specifically asking about Broadsword and Katana, so those were the only sets I was responding in reference to.

Indeed it does.

Something of note. Redraw was said to be fixed sothat a:it is consitered in the animation time as to not slow you down, and more importantly b:you no longer get caught up in perma redraw from button mashing. These were fixed sometime around issue 11 or 12. If you are button mashing you will either get the quickened draw+animation (so that takes as much time as the regular animation) or your weapon just hot swaps into your hand.

Example.... my Axe Tank uses ghost slaying axe also. Both have redraw. If i button mash, half the time i get the draw+quick animation, the other half i do the regular animation while the axe magically morphs in my hand to the other one.

Another example: my wife has a kat/SR scrapper. When she uses her clickable mez protection, her sword gets pulled away. In the heat of battle, sometimes she gets the draw+quick animation, other times she just hits them with her sword appearing like a light saber. She never gets stuch in redraw.

To be sure as to if the animation times are truly the same, FRAPS it. But really redraw isn't a problem anymore, so you shouldn't really be worried about it. Most people that still complain about it are from back in the day and still expect it to be a "nerf." Back then redraw was balanced with a higher base accuracy. Not we get better base accuracy & same animation times.

Actually, you have it exactly backwards. Redraw time used to be baked into the time of the attack, so that redraw didn't hurt you. They then removed the baked in redraw time from many (not all) primaries, speeding up the attacks. On the down side, if you need to redraw, it now actually takes extra time, and lowers your damage. So now we DO need to worry about redraw, where before we did not.

I'm also not aware of any base accuracy change that accompanied the redraw change. There was a change to low level characters to make things a little easier on them, but that benefit goes away as you level, and I don't think had anything to do with the redraw changes.

The improved base accuracy was done a long time ago (back in the Jack Emmert days) to account for an old problem wherein you had to use up activation time to get in stance for some attacks. MA, BS, and Katana all have base accuracies of 1.05 rather than 1.0. The same applies for Archery and Assault Rifle. They're all 5% higher than they would be otherwise.

Ah, gotcha. I didn't pay attention to the numbers back then, so I didn't realize that that's how it came about.
