Goodness people. You do realize this is a game right? I've been claiming for years that flight was too slow, especially when I discovered a buddy of mine with SR and no travel power went faster than I did with 6 SO fly. But cut them some slack please. You have made your points, they are looking into it, and if they feel something needs to be changed, it will be.
This is reminding me of all those anti-ED posts that people made. Goodness...
[/ QUOTE ]
Ugh, excuse me. It's my turn on the soapbox.
But the Flight Pool in general is in a pretty sad state. AS is a great attack, but Hover is too slow for any real effective level of use, and there are so many -Fly attacks in PVP that more than half the time you're going without a travel power at all. I don't really mess with Group Flight, but I'm sure it has its own pitfalls.
Castle, for all that is holy, please give a timeframe one when Flight will become viable as a travel power, or at least as viable as the other options out there. -
I would hope that it's what some people have already suggested: World of Heroes (and Villians). I'd like for the basic idea to be that there are a few cities the size of Paragon City around the world that heroes and villians would fight for control over. The PvE and PvP content would be readily available in that case. I mean, they already have 2 cities now (Paragon and the Rogue Isles). These added cities could be branch-outs that have a certain level requirement to go to. Someone else also mentioned the idea of maybe a new group showing itselves, like an alien species that would be a threat to both heroes and villians alike to create some unlikely team-ups.
I would so much rather they did something like this than do something that involved underwater or space type things. It just doesn't seem like it'd fit or would be the next logical step. I just can't imagine CoH in space. Maybe on another planet at the worst, but not floating in space. -

The more I think about CoH, the more I want to just say, 'Okay. I'll come back in a year and -hope- things make sense.'
Unless this resistance buff rivals that of what Invulnerability could do in like, Issue 2, then there is literally no point to it being there. I know for sure that if I was in the red as an I5 and ED'd SR Scrapper, the last thing I'm doing is standing in that pack of yellows (if I was playing rationally, which isn't always the case).
It's like the DEVs aren't even listening. -

Super Reflexes Auto powers (Agile, Dodge, and Lucky) now add some minor damage resistance. This Damage resistance starts at 0%, but improves as the caster loses HP.

Gee, can regenerators get defense when their hit points go down, then? Oh, that's right, regenerators are bad and must be punished, over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over again.
THREE POWERS OUT OF THE REGENERATION SET CAN ONLY TAKE ONE TYPE OF ENHANCEMENT!!!!!! Explain how to "diversify" that!

4 powers out of the /SR set only take one type of enhancement.

Buffs that only kick in when you about to go down, while increasingly evident in the game, are problematic. How about simply putting a constant ability to dodge part of damage in SR in the passives. Simply adding some level of resistance them?
[/ QUOTE ]
Damage mitigation expressed as partial dodging. Sounds like it has promise to me. Of course I'm not wearing my bifocals so I see fuzzily and I haven't had my morning coffee so my thinking is probably equally fuzzy.
[/ QUOTE ]
This, I feel, would be the best way to express such a concept.
[ QUOTE ]
1) Remove the two AoE powers, toggle and passive and move their benefits to the melee and ranged powers of their respective field.
2) Add in a moderately charging power that has a 55% chance of not taking damage from a hit that would have hit you otherwise. (Example, you take a hit even through your defense and this second 55% chance comes up to see if you get hit or not anyway.) If successful you do some sort of juke motion. And the next attack you do to that person has a higher chance of performing a critical than normal.
3) Add a moderately charging power that has a 45% chance of absorbing 50% of the damage you would have taken from an attack that landed on you. If successful, you have a higher percent of a chance to land an attack on the person you deflected against.
That adds style and flare to the set while not simply boosting defenses so even level minions mean nothing.

You want to buff SR, Statesman? Here are my humble suggestions.
1) Remove the two AoE powers, toggle and passive and move their benefits to the melee and ranged powers of their respective field.
2) Add in a moderately charging power that has a 50% chance of not taking taking damage from a hit that would have hit you otherwise. 3) Add a moderately charging power that has a 45% chance of absorbing 50% of the damage you would have taken from an attack that landed on you. If successful, you have a higher percent of a change to land an attack on the person you deflected against.
That adds style and flare to the set while not simply boosting defenses so even level minions mean nothing. -
Your average skirmish doesn't last long enough to make a Defender's presence to matter. Fights are over before it starts. But that's a larger issue than just Defenders.

Question 4: *Idea I thought of* Doubling up AT's so that you can have a MA scrapper with a few Katana powers or a Fire blaster with a few Ice powers, hence doubling up into dual powersets. It's an idea they hadn't thought up of so whether they will think about it remains to be seen.
[/ QUOTE ]
This sounds a LOT better than having to reroll or thinking changing into a squid is a cool reward for getting to level 50. I'd love to be able to have Power Burst on my MA/Regen Scrapper. Hadouken! -
If someone were to write a comic about my character, it'd be me. If I were to write a comic about my character, it'd be about his balancing the life of being a popular model, a hero, and the ongoing bout he has with his powers.

I'm not even really sure why I'm getting so defensive over the two Korean threads. I've only been in my mother's country twice, and I've lived in the freakin' US pretty much all my life.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's bothering me, too, because the overall tone is just plain awful.
I'm not Korean, but two of my cousins were born there.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I agree. Don't know anyone from Korea, but come on. This is a game. People ought to keep their racist and ethinically offensive remarks to themselves. I'd really like to see the DEVs enforcing this because no one should have to feel uncomfortable coming onto the forums and that stuff does just that for me. -

[ QUOTE ]
You can't see the obvious advantages of having heavily slotted damage plus heavily slotted accuracy and heavily slotted END reducers? In *ONE* power?
[/ QUOTE ]
I can see what the advantage looks like on paper. But until it's live in it's final format, it's theory at best. Which means I expect the dev's to look at it when it's on test and make adjustments as needed prior to it going out to live.
[/ QUOTE ]
If it's even the slightest boost over non-Hamidon enhancements, I think it's entirely against everything the DEVs have conveyed to us about CoH being a game not based on loot. Balanced or not, it's loot and it shouldn't have an advantage over anything.
And if they do, then the DEVs have gone against one of their core principles of the game, which certainly would unsettle me. -
[ QUOTE ]
Let me make sure I understand the auto-exemp feature correctly in this example:
There are 50 heroes in the arena, 25 on each side. Each team has 5 heroes from each "weight class"...meaning 5 heroes each for levels 1-10, 11-20, 21-30, 31-40, and 41-50.
I, as a level 45, enters combat and targets a level 25. When I attempt to use a power on that lvl 25 player, it auto-exemps me down to lvl 25 (24?). If, right after I use that power, I hit tab and now am targeting a lvl 35, it again auto-exemps me down to lvl 35. This repeats no matter who I attack...the auto-exemp feature always reduces the effectiveness of my power down to the affected players' level.
Is this correct? If so, that's a nifty bit of programming...
[/ QUOTE ]
If it's like this I won't be playing. If I'm level 50 and there are a wide variety of levels in the heroes I'm up against and targetting one makes me the same as them, then I'm assuming if I target a level 15 and get hit by a 25 I'd get rocked?
The auto exemplar thing just sounds funky to me. I don't know. I'll give PvP a shot, but if it turns into Hamidon Enhancements owning everyone and exemplar confusion, I won't be in it. -
[ QUOTE ]
You do realize that many of us are here because we actually wanted a game without the madness of Elite Loot? That we don't want to feel forced into farming?
Does your casual player base mean so little to you?
Given the choice between farm-for-the-win and skip Arena/CoV I'll skip PvP -- ToA taught me that much.
Loot Farming wins again... Very disappointed.
[/ QUOTE ]
I can agree with this. I personally have no interest in farming Hamidon, taking the concept of the creature out of context, just to be a viable competitor in PvP. I will not be looking forward to PvP in the 45-50 range, especially on Champion with its powerlevellers and farmers.
Ah well.. This is a game a geared towards casual players, right?
Keep up the good work, Devs.
EDIT:
I'll also add that I'm not much of a fan of the auto-exemplar feature. It's like negating all the work you've done on your character if you can't even enjoy the powers you've earned all of the time. The manual had stated the sidekick system was -1 within 10 levels, -2 within 20 and so on. Why wouldn't this work in PvP if all enhancements gave similar percentages? -

I started a fire/fire tank recently.
Now, I'm not too high level yet, but I team with an Invulnerability/SS tanker occasionally.
Not only are my defensive toggles cheaper (fire shield and plasma shield compared to TI plus unyielding), but my attacks seem cheaper too. And you know something, my fire tanker only has two attacks currently but I keep stealing aggro from the SS tanker with provoke-punch, and the SS tanker has twice as many attacks (which may also be a cause of the endurance problem). I also end fights with twice the endurance he does (and that's assuming I don't use Consume).
Conculsions: First, SS doesn't seem to be able to keep up damage-wise at low level against fire. I assume this will only get worse. And that's the fire secondary. SS also costs far more endurance than fire, which if it can't keep up, just isn't fair. If Rage were too be able to be used more often, it might be more equal. Secondly, I now think TI costs too much endurance. It doesn't do as much as Fire Shield, but Fire Shield seems to be more cost effective. (TI is only smash/lethal resistance. Fire Shield gives about as much smash/lethal resitance AND fire/cold resistance AND disorient resistance).
[/ QUOTE ]
I think the problem here is not Invuln or SS, but Fire. Every set with Fire in its name in CoH (with the exception of blaster fire secondary) is very, very, very good indeed.
Fire Blast- AOE DOOM
Fire Imps- I mean 'Firey Control', dont I?
Firey Melee- Woot! AOE AND Good Single-Target!
Firey Armour- Burn, Baby, Burn. And as you said, broader and cheaper toggles. And more 'utility' than Invuln.
Dev's say *YES* to Fire Toons!

The Prelude to Justice will be holding a roleplaying event that is hopefully going to create a bit of a buzz for the Alliance of Champions RP scene. We're going to be fostering new roleplayers by meeting up at a certain spot and interacting with them IC, as well as answering OOC questions about the Prelude and the Alliance. On top of that, we'll be giving our influence to newer heroes (Under level 12) to help them buy their first round of Dual Origin Enhancements.
When? This Friday the 25th at 7PM EST.
Where? At the park in the North East corner of Atlas Park.
If you've ever been interested in any capacity in roleplaying, this would be a great way to get involved and see what the Alliance has to offer. Ask me any questions either here, through private messages, or in-game. I'll be glad to help. See you all there!

Guess I'll keep the tradition going here, heh..
Well. 20 years old. Moved to Virginia around Thanksgiving. I like to write, make music (hip-hop, although I call myself moreso a lyricist than a rapper. My AIM's Halorin314 if you ever want to hear some of my stuff), and Basketball.
Recently got into modelling. I guess we'll see how that goes, and now for the goods.
My Face. -
Halorins movements were quick and swift. Like a jazz music freestyle session, he was haphazard, rhythmic, precise and unpredictable all at the same time. The mechanical robot was on the pure offensive, swinging and striking at the green aurad hero, but could not land a blow. Halorin bobbed under a straight jab, coming up and slamming his left fist into the metallic abdomen of the drone. Just as the strength hunched the robot over, Halorin sprang up with a right uppercut, his feet levitating off of the ground.
Lights out!
He snapped his form around in air, firing off a straight kick into the robots face, sending it sprawling through the open studio and crashing clean through the wall onto the Steel Canyon sidewalk.
Cut! Cut! Brilliant, but what the HELL were you thinking, Halorin!?
The buzzer rang as the camera and sound crew buzzed and made preparation to capture the scene and play it back as the short and frumpy director jumped down out of his seat and walked over to a confused Halorin. The hero adjusted his shades before brushing off his tanktop, looking down at the man incredulously.
I said make it look real! NOT to put the damn thing through a wall! I just hope we can use that.
Halorins left brow was seen raising from behind his sunglasses as he coolly responded, ey man You said ywanted me tfight ththing. I ain gonna go easy on some rock em sock em sucker. He casually looked down at the white pair of sneakers. These things are kinda comfortable, though
The director could be seen bubbling with rage, thinking of the damage done to the set and to the drone.
So when do I gotta do thwhole promo thing?
Fast Forward.
Halorin raised the Prelude to Justice: High Kick Casual Sneaker to the camera and tilted his head to the side to come into view. With a smirk he casually stated, Now THESEre pair oki-
CUT! Thats not the line!
Another take.
Halorin raised the Prelude to Justice: High Kick Casual Sneaker to the camera and tilted his head to the side to come into view. With a smirk he smoothly said, Buy it.
WHAT?!

Halorin raised the Prelude to Justice: High Kick Casual Sneaker to the camera and tilted his head to the side to come into view. With a flat expression, Two come in thbox.

Cut.
Halorin raised his head a bit, looking to the director with a bewildered expression from behind his shades. The director looked at the playback, rubbing at his chin thoughtfully.
Thats a wrap.
Halorin grinned, See? Ima natural.
The directors face exploded in anger as his fingers clamped down on the arms of the chair. He looked like he wanted to fight. Halorin raised his hands dismissively, ey, ey Heh. Rlax there.
Anyone watching TV at any given time might see this
Halorins movements were quick and swift. Like a jazz music freestyle section, he was haphazard, rhythmic, precise and unpredictable all at the same time. The mechanical robot was on the pure offensive, swinging and striking at the green aurad hero, but could not land a blow. Camera angles snapped to different views, taking the time to freeze and pan with a visual echo towards the nice looking pair of sneakers Halorin was wearing. The blows were landed and Halorin raised into the air and snapped himself around.
Lights out!
Just as his foot connected, the screen explodes into a pure white.

Update: Two more spots available! If you're looking for an active roleplaying group on Champion, or even in general, I ask you to consider the Prelude.
-
Just an update: There are still 3 spots open in the Prelude. If you're on the Champion server, or are looking for a quality roleplaying group that conducts its own story arcs and is involved in an active roleplaying community, the Prelude may be for you!
-
Just as an update, real life is really kicking my butt lately and I'm barely having the time to keep up with the roleplay I have going on now. I want this go all go smoothly or not at all, so if someone else wants to take things over, I'd appreciate it.
Sorry, guys! -
Hello, everyone. The Prelude to Justice is a roleplaying supergroup on the Champion server. The Prelude is also the 5th group of 6 in the Alliance of Champions, a roleplaying community of over 100 members. I started the Prelude to Justice in early December, ironically enough on the day that I had planned to unsubscribe from CoH and leave the game entirely. I was browsing through the forums after I had made my decision when I came across a thread talking about a roleplaying community starting on a server Ive never set foot on. I was curious enough to take a peak at what it was about, and a few PMs later I found myself rerolling the character I spent since back in beta developing on unchartered territory. It was a gamble, but it has turned out to be the most rewarding experience Ive ever since I began playing this game.
The people that Ive met on the Champion server that have helped the Prelude become what it is today are an amazing bunch. The Prelude is, in my opinion, a fine example of what I feel many are striving for when they participate in a roleplaying supergroup. All of our characters are active and diverse. The forum activity, be it in character or out, is always high. Im impressed by the storylines and character development thats going on with the Prelude, and only become moreso with each plot turn. The quality of roleplay and writing going on with the Prelude and the Alliance as a whole is, without a personal doubt, the best Ive ever been a part of.
With all of this said, Im announcing that there are 5 spots open in the Prelude to Justice. Right now we are at 11 very active and strong members, but I feel 16 will really take the groups level of interaction and activity to a new level. The Prelude to Justice was created under three basic principles.
1) Presence in the community - I'm not a gloryhound, but a little bit of acknowledgement is something I think most everyone looks forward to when they put a lot of effort into something. An introverted group simply can't accomplish this, and things can become stagnant. I want to feel like I walked into the Cheers bar and everyone knows my name, and my groups name, and I want them to know that we're a good set of people who are good roleplayers who tell worthwhile stories.
2) Storytelling - Don't get me wrong. Cryptic has cooked up a LOT of good stories. Only, these stories are static, and they moreso graft you into them rather than involve you. I want to have a team where people come up with ideas for stories for their characters that effect the group as a whole. Give me something to write about, something for me to be at the edge of my seat over. I want to feel like I'm having an experience rather than playing a game.
3) Professionalism - Now, I'm not asking anyone to be right and proper, and if you're a fan of netspeak, unoriginal or copyrighted characters, mispelled names to get the name you wanted, stuff like that, that's your thing, but it's not ours. I want to look at the roster of the group I'm in and I want to see diversity, uniqueness, and togetherness all in one package. Heroes coming together from different walks of life and paths to bust some heads and do some good. Detailed Bios, a potential backstory. Anything to flesh out a character, I'd love to see it.
The ideal candidate would be a person who agrees with these principles and sees what we, as a group, are trying to accomplish. They will be fairly active, preferably stopping on CoH once a day for at least an hour to play and roleplay. The applicant would like to get involved with forum roleplay and be an active participant in the forum roleplay already going on. Commitment to the character that the candidate is applying with is also crucial. While we dont frown on alternate characters, the level of roleplay and group activity were looking for makes priority to the character in the Prelude vital.
Thematically, the Prelude to Justice is a group that was started by an cat burglar who was caught and offered the chance to work for the government rather than go to jail. Since its inception, the Prelude has become a close band of friends who consider themselves family. The Prelude doesnt take a definite stance against any particular enemy, but rather they serve justice wherever it is needed. Theres a certain level of modern day street smarts throughout the entire group, and while characters outside of that description wont be turned away, its likely that they wont fit into the group as well.
If you are interested in joining the Prelude to Justice, contact me either here on the forums or in game. My characters name is Halorin. I look forward to hearing from you!
