OOC: The Prelude to Justice is recruiting!
Just an update: There are still 3 spots open in the Prelude. If you're on the Champion server, or are looking for a quality roleplaying group that conducts its own story arcs and is involved in an active roleplaying community, the Prelude may be for you!
Update: Two more spots available! If you're looking for an active roleplaying group on Champion, or even in general, I ask you to consider the Prelude.
Hello, everyone. The Prelude to Justice is a roleplaying supergroup on the Champion server. The Prelude is also the 5th group of 6 in the Alliance of Champions, a roleplaying community of over 100 members. I started the Prelude to Justice in early December, ironically enough on the day that I had planned to unsubscribe from CoH and leave the game entirely. I was browsing through the forums after I had made my decision when I came across a thread talking about a roleplaying community starting on a server Ive never set foot on. I was curious enough to take a peak at what it was about, and a few PMs later I found myself rerolling the character I spent since back in beta developing on unchartered territory. It was a gamble, but it has turned out to be the most rewarding experience Ive ever since I began playing this game.
The people that Ive met on the Champion server that have helped the Prelude become what it is today are an amazing bunch. The Prelude is, in my opinion, a fine example of what I feel many are striving for when they participate in a roleplaying supergroup. All of our characters are active and diverse. The forum activity, be it in character or out, is always high. Im impressed by the storylines and character development thats going on with the Prelude, and only become moreso with each plot turn. The quality of roleplay and writing going on with the Prelude and the Alliance as a whole is, without a personal doubt, the best Ive ever been a part of.
With all of this said, Im announcing that there are 5 spots open in the Prelude to Justice. Right now we are at 11 very active and strong members, but I feel 16 will really take the groups level of interaction and activity to a new level. The Prelude to Justice was created under three basic principles.
1) Presence in the community - I'm not a gloryhound, but a little bit of acknowledgement is something I think most everyone looks forward to when they put a lot of effort into something. An introverted group simply can't accomplish this, and things can become stagnant. I want to feel like I walked into the Cheers bar and everyone knows my name, and my groups name, and I want them to know that we're a good set of people who are good roleplayers who tell worthwhile stories.
2) Storytelling - Don't get me wrong. Cryptic has cooked up a LOT of good stories. Only, these stories are static, and they moreso graft you into them rather than involve you. I want to have a team where people come up with ideas for stories for their characters that effect the group as a whole. Give me something to write about, something for me to be at the edge of my seat over. I want to feel like I'm having an experience rather than playing a game.
3) Professionalism - Now, I'm not asking anyone to be right and proper, and if you're a fan of netspeak, unoriginal or copyrighted characters, mispelled names to get the name you wanted, stuff like that, that's your thing, but it's not ours. I want to look at the roster of the group I'm in and I want to see diversity, uniqueness, and togetherness all in one package. Heroes coming together from different walks of life and paths to bust some heads and do some good. Detailed Bios, a potential backstory. Anything to flesh out a character, I'd love to see it.
The ideal candidate would be a person who agrees with these principles and sees what we, as a group, are trying to accomplish. They will be fairly active, preferably stopping on CoH once a day for at least an hour to play and roleplay. The applicant would like to get involved with forum roleplay and be an active participant in the forum roleplay already going on. Commitment to the character that the candidate is applying with is also crucial. While we dont frown on alternate characters, the level of roleplay and group activity were looking for makes priority to the character in the Prelude vital.
Thematically, the Prelude to Justice is a group that was started by an cat burglar who was caught and offered the chance to work for the government rather than go to jail. Since its inception, the Prelude has become a close band of friends who consider themselves family. The Prelude doesnt take a definite stance against any particular enemy, but rather they serve justice wherever it is needed. Theres a certain level of modern day street smarts throughout the entire group, and while characters outside of that description wont be turned away, its likely that they wont fit into the group as well.
