Do you mean he shouldn't rage and be upset "quite" now (as in just yet?), or that he shouldn't rage "quit?" Very different suggestions, there, Mr. Punner.

To the OP, you also should remember you are comparing quite different attacks. Haymaker and Crane Kick do quite different ST damage scales (Haymaker is 1.64, Crane Kick is 2.058)... Haymaker would be weaker than Crane Kick by a significant amount on Scrappers as well... if Scrappers ever get Super Strength, anyway.

Whenever you compare things, know how those things are made up. Super Strength is actually considered to be a fairly good set.
  2. Yeah, the Gaussian proc is so short (5 seconds, roughly) that I figure it's better in Build Up or something like that. I do have it in Targeting Drone on one character, but part of has to wonder how much it's really helping with that short buff and it being random when it occurs.
  3. Slots available is also a consideration. Melt Armor can do what it does for just 1-2 slots (counting the base slot), not a heavy investment (I may pick this up when Fitness goes inherent because of this). Fire Blast... I dunno, other than for picking off a low health runner, you'd probably want to devote a decent amount of slots to it.

If you're hurting for ST damage, Fire Blast would help. If you want a little more help with debuff, Melt Armor isn't bad and has a long debuff duration to go with Bruising nicely. Could help for difficult ST targets if you already have a good amount of ST attacks.
  4. You know, supposedly we're all a grumpy bunch of buggers here on Victory, but at least no one is taking potshots about how "$10 isn't that much money and we should stop whining." Not saying everybody posting along those lines on the official thread for this booster are mean about it, but... $10 is still $10. If you make enough that you can throw it around like Frank Sinatra and not care what you are paying for, more power to you.

But most of us do have to think about our expenditures, would like a decent amount for our money, and do measure things when a company changes pricing or seems to be pricing too high for what it's offering. Don't knock us when we do so.

My line of reasoning would have less to it if there weren't other boosters to match up against already.

Ham, you mentioned in game that they should have a sale with these... I could see that ticking people off that paid full price (or being more reasonable if people couldn't get these "cheaper" with other versions of the game), but it might not be a bad idea, especially for the boosters with less in them, or the older ones.

Also.....are proc's based on hits or ability activation?
It depends on the proc and the power. For damage procs, you have to activate the power and it has to hit. Gaussian's, if it's a click (like Build up), it will have a chance to fire on activation, while a toggle will have the chance to fire every... gah, can't remember how often it is in toggles. Fairly often. However, it can be better to put it in in a click power, as then it is firing when you will want the damage (when you use Build up, etc.). In a Toggle, it may go off when you are between mobs, etc. You just don't know.

Of course my /dev blaster got banished off my primary server a while back during free transfers, so I'm not exactly going to stand up for gun drone either. Picking between those two is like choosing between athletes foot and jock itch.
Sparky is better to me just because it doesn't take 7 seconds to summon. I dropped him from my Elec/Elec/Elec Blaster when I kept forgetting to summon him (so he was doing absolutely nothing at all, rather than a little). Long summons are just meh for me with pets, especially in Devices which has long animations for a lot of stuff. I like the set, it just needs some help.

But yes, as you said, Sparky has issues as well.

Good to know he does different stuff. Guess we're just unlucky that he always does the same one whenever we happen to find his stage. He is pretty funny, too, just from his interactions with his audience before the show (which don't seem scripted... and he always adjusts his story to people he interacts with).

I am quite disappointed you have left the motherland for... Arizona, though. Traitor!

Yeah, I like them too, except for the mutant cape. As you noted, though, $10 seems steep. $5-$6 would have made me think "eh, not too bad for what it is." At that price range, most of the other boosters are much, much better. You might not get them for their theme (like magic, valkyrie, or ninja), but they're offering a lot more for that $10 than what this pack gets you.

No, there was some article or diary or something a few weeks ago where they mentioned your origin was going to have more of an impact on your gameplay. I think it's going to be tied in with dialogue in some new arcs (more than just Percy Winkley's) from what they said, but the language of this announcement was similar enough to make me fear they were equating the two things, which I certainly would not.

I do know the costume pieces are for every character at level 1, which Black Pebble or Ocho confirmed. So that's good. Just don't think the price point is right for what this is offering. I'd go with Ham and say any of the boosters are iffy at $10, but since that's our baseline and what this booster is up against, I would certainly say it's not worth it.

Shame, too. Some of those auras look nifty, as do the capes. Just not that much money good. But you know me, I'm one of those that has to justify subbing to the game: some people take that as a matter of course.
  8. Well, it stopped after I did a system restore. Still concerned that it is some new scanning feature of AVG 2011, as it seems to happen when something "new" is coming up. New graphics or new zones in CoX cause lag (but then are fine if nothing new comes up), and the same for other programs.

Anyone know if AVG 2011 has some new features or scans we have to turn off? I couldn't see anything that I'd really want to shut off, but I only know so much.

I like costumes too, and have a large variety of them. You can do a lot more with the Tech, Magic, or Ninja booster packs then you can with a few capes and auras, though. No way is this booster even close to those.

And if this is what that promo material a few weeks ago meant by "having your origin tied in more with your character's growth," color me unimpressed.

Mwahaha! I am the doom police with this one! Fear me and tremble!
  10. New "origin" booster pack (video link at the bottom of the article). Basically a bunch of capes and auras. Better than the emote only pack, but I'm not super keen on it, especially since it's going to be $10 again.

Feels rather piecemeal to me, not to mention being overpriced (the previous boosters were at least full costume sets along with other things). They're all available from level 1, but meh. What do you all think?
  11. I dunno, this one seems rather skimpy as well, compared to all the boosters with extra things in there. Also feels like we should be getting some of this stuff with the game (without having to pay extra) if they really want us to emphasize our characters and origin more.

I may feel better about this after hearing about what all will be in I19 for sure, but I dunno. I rather suspect the auras that we are getting for free with I19 were supposed to be in this pack before they were released accidentally. I guess I can feel happy that we are getting some stuff for free, but we have had two boosters in a short amount of time, and that's harder for me to swallow until I see what stuff I am getting with my subscription.
  12. Well, I'm not sure if some lag problems I am having tie in with AVG 2011 (the free version) or not, but I updated to it on Monday, and my computer lags up/locks up from time to time ever since then (I noticed this in CoX, but have had it happen while doing other things on that computer). However, I also did some security updates for Windows 7 at the time.

AVG occasionally has an error it wants to report as well. I'm going to try reinstalling AVG to see if that does the trick, but does anyone know if there might be something else behind this?

My computer never locks up, but it can have a LONG pause while loading Firefox, loading a map in CoX, have a sound loop in game, etc. And this on a system that loads nicely and handles the game quite well as long as I don't turn up the Ultra mode settings too far.

    Dargeting Trone

It's nice when it's out, but you have to resummon it every 90 seconds and takes 7 seconds to summon. You can't control what it shoots at, but it adds to the damage getting thrown out there.

To be honest, I'm not sure why pets for Blasters are so difficult to keep up. I'd rather they stayed out permanently and could be targeted by mobs if we didn't have to summon them so much (just like Controller pets... and I wouldn't care if the recharge and endurance cost were equivalent for them). They're just so annoying to have to summon so much that it makes them not good to use.

Gun Drone is worse than "Sparky" from Electric Blast, but they're both powers that require resummoning too often.
  14. For the OP, a PROC is a programmed random occurrence (think I got that right), so the effects are random and attached to when the power is used: having Swap Ammo on does not matter. Most damage procs have a 20% chance to fire, so you'll see random effects with that. You could see multiple hits in a row, or multiple misses. The only way you can tell if it's not working correctly is to get a massive amount of data to show that the proc is not firing 20% of the time. A lot of powers in Dual Pistols do DoT and AOE, so it can be harder to tell if the proc fired or not (unless you are used to how much damage a power should do on the opponent you are facing).

I can attest to the Achilles Heel -res Proc working this way. I have it in Pistols and in Empty Clips, and I can see the effect fire quite often. But it is random: one time using Empty Clips, all three targets in front of me had the proc fire on them. Other times, five targets got nothing. Such are the ways of random. Swap Ammo doesn't change that.
  15. Nothing has changed about Ice in recent issues, and the only difference for Malta (several issues ago) was some of them using powers like their hold missiles better. So this is probably just a perception thing. Malta are usually a challenge for most people.
  16. Gratz and happy birthday!

Wait, what? I wasn't admitting to being hyperbolic at all. If you don't think 30 feet is pretty close range in this game, that's where the problem comes in to play, as that is quite close (so ignore all the annoyed tones we've been throwing at each other). Are there times where teammates are in that close? Sure. But there are plenty more times where teammates aren't that close, and it's quite easy to do. As I said in the earlier post, you can be working with your team on the same spawn and be out of range of this 30 foot power.

    Quote:
I think this is where my and other's opinion on the matter differs. I see the bonus crit chance granted by team as a *bonus* while you guys must see it as a necessary feature. The way I see it, you're getting the bonus damage/crits so...your contributions on a team have greater impact. If allies are too far to fight everything, that leave your Stalker more targets to contribute with so you don't need the crit to have your impact.
That's where the other disagreement comes into play. I do see it as a necessary feature. I don't know why Castle would make that adjustment to Stalker's Critical capability and not want it to work on teams. It doesn't work solo, obviously (unless pets truly do affect the ability... not sure if that has been proven definitively, though), so that's where it needs to work.

And if it doesn't work easily or consistently on a team (which I don't think it does at 30 feet), that's an issue. Otherwise, Stalkers can have a lower base damage than Stalkers, lower HP, lower mitigation, lower AOE, and even a lower critical chance (depending on the target, and it can definitely be lower on the targets that matter most). I am aware that maybe they shouldn't dial this up too far (otherwise you'll have Stalkers using the power clear across the zone or the map from their team), but asking for 60-90 feet is a good idea and would help.
  18. Yup, that's pretty much what I said. Each one has its own targeting, and it will decide to go after... whatever. They're not as bad as they used to be (Castle fixed them up a bit when he improved Kheldians), but they're still rather random, which is why I prefer using them up close.

Thanks for the info on the damage, as I wasn't sure. I knew you could kill minions with them if the explosions overlap enough, so I thought maybe the higher figure was correct.

I do like the power and how random it is, actually. I just thing the recharge is rather punitive for what it does. Heck, Dark Extraction has lower recharge and the pets persist and do damage for 90 seconds. A blast of high damage is nice, but seriously...
  19. I want to say that each Seeker does that much damage. However, it is over a limited area, so you might have difficulty getting the explosions to overlap enough. I generally use Seekers when I'm in the middle of a mob, as I figure that maximizes the damage.

However, it can be nice to summon them and go to Nova, and they'll go after whatever aggros on you. Does a decent amount of damage that way, and mitigation.

Basically, the three Seekers are independent of each other and can go after whatever they want in aggro range. Summoning them up close makes it more of a sure thing their explosions will overlap. Letting them run in to a mob on their own leads to... uncertain results. Some targets will get pasted, others won't. And they may ignore that boss you would have preferred they went after. Summoning up close helps guarantee that they'll hit everything.

They're fun, but more temperemental than a nuke, which is why people argue for a recharge reduction. They're hardly so good as to warrant their recharge, even though my PB has a lot of recharge and Hasten to bring them up somewhat often. I'd rather they were available every few mobs than 2-3 times in a mission (depending on the length).
  20. Yeah, I've had to turn off XP a lot for Odinn, as I want to work on his TF Commander Badge, and get the Atlas Medallion. With the TFs he's done, he could easily be 2-3 levels higher if xp hadn't been turned off.

  22. I've actually adjusted my Fire/Fire's defensive build so he only has FSC and Burn (well, Consume as well, but I count that more for end recovery than AOE damage). I dumped Combustion for Burn on both of my builds, as Burn is just that much better. My offensive build has Fireball as well, but to be honest, Burn and FSC (with Blazing Aura in there as well) melts things amazingly well.

I'd grab more if I could, but we only have so many slots!

Trimmed down to what I wanted to focus on. This was a point I made in that other thread as well. The main thing Another Fan and others did is to point out other powerset combos that were perhaps doing too much damage, not that Blasters are underperforming.

Other than Devices, I'm trying to think if there are any other Blaster sets that really need tweaking. I think it still does, but the rest do what they're supposed to do pretty well, as far as I know. I haven't played all of them, and have to go off of what people say (and the numbers) for other sets.

But yes, improving Blasters as a whole would be... making the game REALLY easy. And we're already kind of in that territory (I'm hoping the new endgame stuff is challenging but not too difficult, though).

I don't know if I quite disagree that sometimes a sledgehammer is used when making adjustments, but most of those examples that hold water are from a long time ago. Castle seems quite concerned about adjusting things right when he does them (note the tested changes to Shield Charge, compared to what is now live: it was not reduced as much as was first tested).

That behavior is a far cry from ED (though arguably the game needed it), or even the nerfs to Burn way back when (it needed a reduction, but not to the point where it had limited usefulness). I'm not sure why Bruising for Tanks was brought up, as that adjustment was to help an AT as a whole. Super Strength and Stone are good sets for damage, sure, but there's nothing so strong about them to warrant them not getting the power (and it's not like those sets wouldn't do more damage for Brutes or Scrappers, either, and Bruising is meant to make Tankers a more viable AT to choose among the melee classes).

Helping all Defenders solo better was hardly questionable, either.

The main issue here was when someone honestly thinking about Blasters was led astray by incorrect information. Covered that well enough up above.

Hey! That tocal lorysteller performs at our Renaissance Festival in the Twin Cities (Minnesota)! He's why my wife often calls me a "mudly stuffin." Heh, we saw him for the first time on one of our first dates. I've only ever heard him perform "Jomeo and Ruliet," though. I know he can't do, ummm, a Tale of Two Cities, but it would be fun to hear him do another story.

Oh, Devices is what this thread is about? Ummm, yeah... Devices could use some help so it's more usable on teams. Gun Drone being movable helps, of course, but it still takes way too long to summon. Time Bomb needs work for the same reason. Being able to place a trip mine in combat would be good, too. You could still keep the animation longish, but removing the interrupt could make it interesting to use or decent for when things hit the fan, like cal trops.

Not sure if I'd want higher recharge to make that not too overpowered, but I kind of like it.
