Ok..Professor Coldfront is a Fire/Ice tank...my build is..

1.Fire shield
1.frozen fists
2.Healing flames
4.Ice sword
6.swift
8.Blazing aura
10.taunt
12.Plasma shield
14.health
16.consume18.Burn
20.stamina
22.ice patch
24.boxing
26.Fiery embrace
28.tough
30.hasten
32.frost
35.greater ice sword
38.frozen aura

Ok..here is where Im not sure what to do...To me its down to two choices..

A.Earth mastery

41.stone prison
44.Quicksand
47.stalagmites
49.?

B.Pyre Mastery

41.ring of fire
44.Melt Armor
47.fire ball
49.?

I can see the benefits of melt armor....and that power alone is making me lean to Pyre...

Anyway..the servers are still down for maint...and im bored....so any advive is apreciated...

Oh..and for you fire tanks that run when a team fights carnies or any Psi for that matter..try this...

I would cast ice patch/burn then back up while the scrapper(sr/ma) would "tank" on the patch..worked pretty well...

Thanks in advance for any advice given...

Melt Armor is a waste of a power pick. It's not that good, and it's on a long recharge.

I say go Pyre Mastery, get Char, Fire Blast, and Fireball.

I have to agree with Aett on this one - Ive been running Melt Armour on my Fire/Fire Tank for a while but don't get much use out of it to be honest. So I am planning on respecing into Fire Blast when I do my inherent Fitness respec at I19.

If your mouse has greater processing power than your gfx card, the answer is yes.

Yeah, Melt Armor is pretty meh on a tank. It does work, but it's effect is minimal. The only time I've even noticed it doing anything is on teams that are low-debuff, high-damage going after an AV or GM. You will notice the damage output a bit higher after you punch it, but in all other instances, it's pretty much a waste. It's not even a particularly good set mule power.

Once i19 hits and you can skim swift, health, and stamina off your build, it may be something you take and only rarely use. Truth is, a lot of us will probably have those once stamina goes inherent.

And if I had to guess now, I'd say that i19 is pretty damn close, perhaps happening after the Halloween event on 11/2, or after their Meet and Greet season ends on 11/9. I'm guessing the former, because most of the devs are setting up -and attending- the NorCal Meet and Greet on 11/6, and I think they are expecting to be done by then. Just my guess.

So... if you are working a build, I'd start thinking about it with inherent fitness.

funny cause you really can say the same thing about fire blast as a pick too

i picked up melt armor for two reasons...my fire/fire tank gotta hella recharge and it comes up alot more which means its not as worthless as deemed

2ndly...with the analyze weakness set in melt armor it gives some great bonus's to fire tanks including a damage buff,11% acc and a 1.575% s/l resistance.and for fire tanks thats 3 very well made bonus's to have.( placing thunderstrikes, devastations or half the other ones in fire blast gives two bonus's to defense.which is useless unless your building a total defense build.and unless you plan on going with purples the better choice for bonus's is melt armor.)

you can say its got a 2% recovery bonus..but thats what consume is for.if we were talking invuls i would agree.but we are not.

fire blast is an awlful power for damage i found and respec'd out of it. very easy decision to make it was too.plus m.a. does help alot with burn

so there is a ton of good reasons to pick up melt armor.

the better questions here is...

whats your goal with your fire tank?.

are you using i.o's?

if so then what bonus's are you looking to better yourself with?

then youll actually come to a better decision about what it is you want.

oh and btw..earth is only good for if your going to pvp with it. its currently the fotm set to have for tanks in pvp.

Severe, for a Fire/Fire Tanker, you might be right, but for a Fire/Ice Tanker, Fire Blast would be equal in damage to your Ice Sword, basically your second-best single-target attack in the set.

i took that into consideration as well.i also have a lvl 50 fire/ice..thats being said i never would even take ice sword or heck fire sword for that matter.both are awlful damage.

ok sure id take either as i lvl up.but remember the old respec trick?..thats where the old respec out of ice sword ( or fire sword)would then come into play after lvl 38

you should have no reason to keep ice sword or pick up fire blast for that matter.between grater ice sword,f.a. frost, and burn you really dont need a mod damage type power in the attack chain.hasten helps all that back up and you should be golden to pick up the first 2 powers to get fireball.

either way melt armor or fireball arent gonna be needed..they really just the "have to pick" power. but ive taken m.a. and im very happy with it.i had fireball..and was very unhappy with it and thats in pve and pvp.i found it lacked hard in both.

Slots available is also a consideration. Melt Armor can do what it does for just 1-2 slots (counting the base slot), not a heavy investment (I may pick this up when Fitness goes inherent because of this). Fire Blast... I dunno, other than for picking off a low health runner, you'd probably want to devote a decent amount of slots to it.

If you're hurting for ST damage, Fire Blast would help. If you want a little more help with debuff, Melt Armor isn't bad and has a long debuff duration to go with Bruising nicely. Could help for difficult ST targets if you already have a good amount of ST attacks.

i use bruisning with m.a. on alot of bosses and they go by quick...another good reason to pick up m.a.

Wouldn't Assault be better in most cases? That's what smart people here on the forums told me when I asked about melt armor.

They did? Here? That surprises me, I've not seen a lot of Leadership fans on this forum; the values for tanks are very small and the endurance cost of the toggles quite high.

Though I guess I could see Assault recommended in a head-to-head comparison with *just* Melt Armor. However, most players take MA because they have to take 2 powers in Pyre Mastery to get to Fireball, and of course Assault won't help you with that at all.
