AVG 2011 Causing Lag?

Well, it stopped after I did a system restore. Still concerned that it is some new scanning feature of AVG 2011, as it seems to happen when something "new" is coming up. New graphics or new zones in CoX cause lag (but then are fine if nothing new comes up), and the same for other programs.
Anyone know if AVG 2011 has some new features or scans we have to turn off? I couldn't see anything that I'd really want to shut off, but I only know so much.

Try excluding the COH directory from scanning and automatic protection? Had the same issue with MSE a while ago, exclusion fixed it.

AVG2011 has worked okay for me personally on this game. But there are another couple which are giving me headaches accessing them.
If I remember correctly AVG2010 was the same when it was first released.

Well, I'm not sure if some lag problems I am having tie in with AVG 2011 (the free version) or not, but I updated to it on Monday, and my computer lags up/locks up from time to time ever since then (I noticed this in CoX, but have had it happen while doing other things on that computer). However, I also did some security updates for Windows 7 at the time.
AVG occasionally has an error it wants to report as well. I'm going to try reinstalling AVG to see if that does the trick, but does anyone know if there might be something else behind this?
My computer never locks up, but it can have a LONG pause while loading Firefox, loading a map in CoX, have a sound loop in game, etc. And this on a system that loads nicely and handles the game quite well as long as I don't turn up the Ultra mode settings too far.
