Quote:It's not a myth of the forums, I saw that posted more than once. Castle or someone posted again maybe a year or so ago that "I still see MMs as the tanks of redside," so it was a thought that has been around for awhile. I think Brutes are just easier for people to get in that role, so they put them there quite frequently.I'm willing to believe you but I'd like more proof of this as opposed to what could just be a myth of the forums.
Of course, all the villainside ATs are hybrids to some extent, so their roles got pushed around some to what players felt, more than anything the devs technically though of them as. The design could only be pushed so far, but I'm guessing that is what happened.
Not sure about the Stalker being a blaster, but the MM=Tank think I did see stated more than once by a dev.
Quote:I am at - Well if Brutes were regularly intended to do Y, maybe they should have done things a bit different.
The fact remains you have an AT who's inherent is an Aggro Generator and an AT who's inherent requires they have Aggro.
When they were designed there was no conflict from those things because Brutes and Tanks lived in different worlds. But now there is a contradiction in inherents.
If the Tanker taunts everything away, it hampers the brute's ability to do damage. If the brute taunts everything away and dies due to having less survivability - it could hamper the team.
There might be some issue if the Brute is stealing aggro on an AV and they aren't being smart, pointing the AV at the rest of the team, but that's something you can talk about pretty easily. -
Well, I'm sure there are villains I didn't find as funny on the show (haven't watched it through in a few years), but I don't think there were any that stood as being so bad that I would call them really bad villains. And Chairface is certainly not one of them.

If you like Blaster, EM for them is quite fun. You can knock back people that get in your face, and the three melee attacks it gets pack quite a wallop.
I like the set okay on melee characters, though. It takes a little recharge in Barrage now, but the first three attack (Barrage, Energy Punch, and Bone Smasher) are fairly fast animating and do good damage. They're good for when you don't need a bigger hit from ET or TF.
I have an Ice/EM Tank currently, but I'm thinking about doing something with the new changes to EA... EM might involve those. -
Quote:I'm a teacher and I count the days until the next weekend, the next break, summer break, etc. It doesn't mean I hate my job or that I do bad at it (or so I hope and try). It just means the job is a stressful one, takes a lot of work, and that like many humans, I enjoy my leisure time.A bit concerning how little enthusiasm they show for the project. Counting down the days left, even. They've got dream jobs and they're counting down the days.
PJ talks in there about all the meetings he has the next day about various parts of pre, post, and current production. And they had five helicopters and scads of people scouting locations to make sure they have just the right one for each scene. That's not slacking off or counting time and doing nothing.
I may not like the two movies when they come out, but it's not because they didn't put a lot of effort in to them. I just won't like the results all that effort turned out. -
Chairface... Chippendale? A villain created to be a send-up of every corny Bond villain (in a tongue in cheek show about about the superhero genre), with a chair for a face and a need to carve his name into the moon as a birthday present?
No, that's not a terrible villain. That's a hilarious villain. -
*sighs* I guess I have heard far too many people talk about how their Blaster or Stalker completely sucks, or how they don't want them on their teams, etc. Their needing to exists (survive) through a mission didn't sound all that out of place in that background of whinging.

Quote:Blech, you have reminded me why DBZ was not worth watching anymore. All kidding aside, this is something I would like to see. Some sort of epic build up power as one of the next incarnate powers.
Quote:But I DO NOT want something like this to allow for any buff for any character. I don't want blasters buffing health and res max and turning into pocket tankers. That's the exact *opposite* of what I want to see in future slots. We have five slots where everyone can take the same things and homogenize capability. I'd like to see at least *some* future slots have abilities that *amplify* the differences between different archetypes, powersets, and powers rather than mute them. -
Quote:I'd bet on my blaster over any of my stalkers for completing content.
Actually existing is an important prereq.Quote:Stalkers are not in my roster. Characters which do not exist cannot complete content.
I've never enjoyed a stalker well enough to get it to 50, is all. They aren't my thing; for melee I go with scrappers or brutes. Tankers feel like punishment, and stalkers feel (comparatively) frail.
... of course, my standards are a little skewed since I have my main rigged up for tanking, so most things seem frail in comparison. Which isn't fair, because it takes a lot of IOing at level 50 to meet that kind of survivability (except on a tanker, of course, which I don't enjoy due to the perceived punishment factor).
Your playing or not playing an AT isn't all that helpful in that context, either, so I'm not sure why you felt the need to post that. I personally hate Masterminds, but I'm not going to announce that as pertinent information as to whether they can get things done in the game.
I would still say Stalkers need a little nudging to get them appropriately balanced with Brutes, Scrappers, and Tanks, though I would never go to the hyperbole some do with how much they suck. There aren't any flat out broken or unplayable ATs in the game. Some could use some small tweaks, as well as powersets, but I just have to roll my eyes whenever someone says an AT absolutely sucks or is unplayable. -
Quote:Alas, it would be nice if they did so. Some of the War Mace and Axe models would look great with a two-handed move. I actually enjoy the look of the mallets and animations in Stone Melee, I just don't like the, ummm, fists of rock that they also have.I don't recall seeing that mentioned, and I somewhat doubt it could happen for Broadsword at least. When BABs made a lot of the new custom swords, he specifically made their hilts only long enough to accommodate a single hand. Most of those don't even have enough hilt for basic ******* Sword grip (apologies for the censor, but you know what I mean). On top of it all, BABs sense of aesthetics made AAALL of the custom swords far, far too short to ever make sense being wielded two-handed. He was making one-handed swords, after all.
I think the development team did seriously consider simply giving us two-handed animations with the one-handed weapons but found that it was so much work for the art team they may as well have made a new set... Which they chose to do instead
Hopefully they go for more than just swords with this titan set... I don't think it would limit the look too much. A big cleaving blow from above or a swinging chop up all look good with a mace, big sword, or axe.
I guess I'm also longing for more animations for weapon sets.I like having more options for blasting now, but I still think weapon sets should have been first choice, since the weapon models only offer so much variety compared to throwing fire, ice, etc. -
Quote:Not quite sure what you mean by existing, but Stalkers should not have issues completing any content. They're fine solo, and I've tanked for small teams with my Nin Stalker.I'd bet on my blaster over any of my stalkers for completing content.
Actually existing is an important prereq.
My Blaster can undoubtedly clear mobs of minions faster than the Stalker, but that's as should be. The Stalker still is going to be able to deal with more damage being thrown at him, as should be as well.
To add my own two cents about the cottage rule, I honestly do not understand why people despise it so much. I can only think it's a misconception of how it works. It doesn't keep the developers from adjusting powers to work better, it gives design consistency and also reminds developers how drastic changes tend to tick off people you didn't even realize would be ticked off. People are annoyed about some of the EA changes, even though it's overall a buff to the set. Same thing happened when they suggested removing Ancillary powers that "no one takes." That one fell on its face.
Stop with the hate folks, it's an effective design philosophy. -
Possible location shot of the Lonely Mountain toward the end (2/3 of the way through? 3/4?). I hope they use it, that shot was gorgeous, and matches descriptions of Long Lake quite well.
And I hope they brought enough tea for everyone... if PJ is the only one that gets it, that's lame! -
Quote:So... the awesome character you love so much is the concept behind him, eh?So in my opinion the flaws of the character come from the medium and not from the character itself. The character is genius evil touching on fears of the unknown, fear of yourself, coming to grips with reality, the betrayal of self, intimidation fear, and a number of others all mixed into this one character in a package that doesn't clash with itself... If we were to give this character to a writer and took it out of the medium of games he'd likely be classed as one of the top villains of all time in film, comics, or books, because like i said, those tweak that would be made to the story would be innate in those mediums with most good writers/directors/artists...
There are things about Sephiroth that are quite cool, but as you yourself are saying in this post, it's not coming out in the game. It's in the concept, and what you are putting on the character with your own thinking. -
If you say so. He mostly seemed to stand around with a massive sword and look moody. I kept waiting for them to do something more with him and they never did. Kind of like Cloud... looked much cooler than he actually was as a character.
As others have pointed out, other characters in the game were more developed and would have worked better as villains. -
Not sure if I'm wrong, but wasn't there talk about giving new two-handed animations to existing weapon sets as well? I'd love to have more options for Mace, Axe, and Broadsword. Even if they aren't two handed.

Quote:I've heard people complain about that in the first X-Men movie, because there is no way in heck Toad should have been able to beat them so badly. I don't know the comics well enough to have a dog in that fight, but Jean Grey does seem rather wimpy in those first two movies.Because he´s awesome? Ok, maybe not as he was originally depicted, but definetly his newer incarnations.
In X-Men 1 he made Cyclops blast the roof off of the train station and later singlehandedly took out Jean "frikking Phoenix" Grey and Storm almost too.
For the whole Sephiroth thing, I have never understood the love FFVII gets. The story is all over and convoluted, completely lacking focus. Frankly, it feels like most of the Final Fantasies since then. Big, sprawling, unfocused, and altogether emo.
FFIV and VI aren't perfect, but they're much more focused and better put together. -
Quote:Why was that a bad thing? Even if you didn't have any immobilizers on the adds, the people with KB should be able to knock the adds against the wall of the nearby building, which doesn't slow things down at all. They're pretty much in the same area, and should be in a nice clump of their own as well.I don't know the Itrials in general are horribly gimmicky. The escape phase of the BAF is one of the worst offenders. Nullifying 2 ATs primary power sets when it was completely unneeded why ?
Anyway the BAF gives me a good example of how a team leader actually needs to understand how to use KB players and KB players need to help the team leader. The other day our League leader had put an energy blaster and a peacebringer on the reinforcement team. Needless to say the scatter made strong and pretty near impossible.
Quote:I would prefer any blaster set other than Energy on my team, but my preference doesn't mean I will outright reject someone playing one.
In my experience, the number of Energy blasters who know how to minimize the detrimental aspects of knockback is far outweighed by those who just blast stuff everywhere with no thought for where it is going.
How can that be a bad thing you ask?
Try getting to the defeat all missions toward the end of a Synapse TF and having your idiot blaster knock a Clockwork inside a wall where no one can target or hit it and you'll know what I mean. We had to restart the TF 2 hours into it because of that guy's carelessness.
I know it is very possible to play an Energy blaster well and use the knockback to help the team, and any player I actually know is welcome to bring an energy blaster along on anything I do.
I'm just a little leery of people I don't know and have never teamed with before bringing an energy blaster. -
Well, we have all the blast sets, unless lists elsewhere in the forums are missing. What we are quite short on is secondaries, which is no real surprise to me. So hopefully each round of proliferation after this will give us some more of those.

Quote:I don't really care about Conan that much, but this made me have to comment. What is it with you Conan fans and your need for the person to look exactly like your imagining (you are one of many I have seen posting on this)? Something based on the written word is never going to match your imagination's picture perfectly, so this stubborn refusal to roll with things just seems... nutty. It makes some rabid fans of comics and their movies look tame by comparison.I am sorry, but as a fan of the Conan novels and comics.....Conan He Is Not.
He just does not have the look or build to be Conan.
From the pictures I have seen made of Conan, Momoa doesn't look all that off from him, and certainly seems closer than Arnold ever did. And in the end, that doesn't matter all that much as long as they got the character and story right. -
Strato, I went with Barrier on my Fire/Fire. It's nice for when things get really stacked up, though you want to use it pre-emptively. None of the other ones seemed worth it, since I have no endurance issues and I don't really need more recharge (I also have a Spiritual if I really need it, but Cardiac seems far better).
Graniteless Stone? You be crazy!
Do you have any soft points you want to shore up for him? I could see Barrier being helpful, or Rebirth if you find yourself needing heals between uses of Earth's Embrace. -
Quote:It was stated in Ustream that Blasters are "done" as far as proliferation is concerned, and that Martial Arts is something they could do with existing powers out there. So not a promise, but at least it's acknowledged.I believe it was talked about in one of the Ustreams or here on the boards (by a dev) about a Martial Manipulation being in the works but far from released and no promises.
But don't quote me on that.
*added*
LeBlanc, Von Krieger has an overview of the Ustream chat in the General Discussion section, and there it said "Dark Blast's damage is pretty average in ST and AoE, but has significant control and tohit debuff." So the focus will be on control and probably middle of the road for ST and AOE. Not sure if that's hard-hitting enough for you, but I saw you saying elsewhere that Dual Pistols is weak... even though it's middle of the road as well. -
Well, I'm glad some people are excited. I don't really like shooting skulls, so I gave up on Dark Blast awhile ago. *sighs* And I guess I'll have to wait a little longer for a Martial Arts as a Secondary... at least they acknowledged it in the Ustream (along with saying Blasters are done for porting somehow... even though they still don't have many secondaries).

Quote:Well, depending on the set, an extra heal would be quite nice. I know I'm going for Rebirth on my Invuln Tanker. He may be soft-capped to S/L, but I know he's going to be hit by things even then, and it'll be nice to have against those hits that do get in, even with all his resists. The Keyes Trial has only re-emphasized this for me.Just my opinion, but, if as an incarnate tanker I felt I needed or had to take Rebirth for my Destiny slot, then I'd call that "FAIL."
I'd be in the same boat for any set that did not have a reasonably fast recharge on its heal: even Energize for Electric Armor feels a little slow after my experience with Fiery Aura and Dark Armor, and I know I'd want it up faster for Keyes. I was using Healing Flames quite often on my one run on Grey Pilgrim.
Quote:I have seen them run form tanks with a taunt aura and when ppl use taunt. Yes taunt dose help some but not all the time. Also Fire tanks has to hit a power to get the protection like imm.
But that was also part of the crowd that nerfed Burn overly much as well. Weird choices all around. I'd still take Combat Jumping if the immob protection was put into the toggles, but it's still strange. -
Quote:Man, I never know when power adjustments are coming. Castle was all "I'm so busy" before Going Rogue, and then he broke out some awesome changes to Fiery Aura just before it.I'm glad there is a mass proliferation going on, I was worried they weren't going to look into older things that needed updating for a while. (Maybe a regen buff because all the whiny broots will complain? <3)
I wish I knew what would trigger it for them... certain issues sit for so long, and then suddenly they get a fix. Always so out of the blue since they've been around for so long. -
Quote:Well, keep in mind that one person's "best interests" can be different from someone else's. In my book, waiting as long as they did to adjust Fiery Aura and Burn were not good things, and I still think it hasn't been in the game's best interest to let other game issues hang around for Kheldians, certain game bugs (the final LGTF map, procs that are not working correctly for months, nay years, etc.).Well, considering my join date being about 6 months after first trying the game and getting an account...yeah.
I'm new to the game, so what? I'm an optimist....so what?
The devs have the best interests of the game in mind, they aren't going to intentionally screw over the playerbase. Without counting fixes to AE to make it not as easy to abuse like a red-headed stepchild for farming, the last huge 'screw you' to the majority of the players was...what? Enhancement Diversification? Global Defense Nerf?
For what else you said, we don't know that EA is going to get their taunt aura suppressed when stealth, especially since that would be different than any other aura that Brutes and Scrappers get. I hope they find a happy medium, but we don't know if they have or will, so that causes the debate.
Such is life on any forums.
