I do think the visual indicators for these and Battle Maiden's patch of doom need to be changed from only being two dimensional. I see what Arcanaville is saying about just moving and being aware, but the two dimensional graphic is an issue, to my mind. There should not be doubt that such a big attack is about to land, whether there is a badge associated with it or not.
Everything else is okay, even the small amount of time you do have to move. -
Quote:Gotcha. I think I bought that case after reading a few positive reviews about it and on your recommendation, so I'm guessing that's why it's still a good choice.Okay you have an Earthwatts 500 watt PSU so a 1GB GTX 460 won't be a problem. It can handle up to 444 watts at 12 volts. The reason I ask is that older designed power supplies don't skew their output to 12 volts like modern PSUs. The 12 volt part of the supply feeds both the CPU and the video card (which is 95% of 12 volt wattage used in most systems).
For instance the cheapest 500 watt PSU at NewEgg can only put out 240 watts at 12 volts. You can still find these is lesser cases. That's why most graphics cards have a minimum power supply wattage and a minimum number of amps at 12 volts requirement.
I'll have to keep my eye on that card and hope it goes on sale or something, as I don't think I can justify quite how much it costs right now (my wife and I are trying to save up for a move or some more education next year, among other things). Hopefully there will be a good Thanksgiving deal or something on it.
Quote:That kit is 2 2Gb modules so you should have 2 spare memory slots available - worth checking visually first though as a few MBs didn't have 4 memory slots. Assuming that to be the case you shouldn't have any problem adding another 2 2Gb modules.
There is still a memory limit but you won't hit it on any desktop or server for a few years yet.
The info on Newegg and looking in my box when I cleaned it for dust last week confirmed that it has four slots for memory, and that kit only takes up two of them, hence my wondering if I should get two more.
Quote:Unless it's changed, Co* takes up about 2G tops that I've ever seen... of course, I'll be the first to admit, I've not done a check in a while, maybe it's more. It's mostly about 1.5G that I've seen. I don't think adding memory will solve anything, unless the problem is you're running Co*, and 14 other programs, and are bumping up against the memory due to that.
The Core2 Duo has two cores. Co* takes up two. There's your biggest issue, if only in that you need to have more cores active if you're needing Co* and something else running. The CPU is where it's at, and beyond that, the video card. The rest of it is fine, IMO, although I am curious as to what that GF460 Father talks about would do in it...
My rig is very similar to yours: E6750, 4G ram, GF9600GT, on a Gigabyte GA-P35-S3G board, with a Thermaltake Pure Power 500Watt PSU. I have no plans to upgrade this box, I'll be making a new one with a i5, and a reasonable GPU. But if it were shown that I could get 25FPS minimum at all times with full Ultra and all I have to do is swap out the GPU... that I would probably do.
Are there any hard numbers on GPU vs CPU swap outs for performance improvements? I'm thinking the CPU is more important in this case, but I don't have the parts to play with to find out for sure... -
Quote:I think that is why they have started doing guides to the new powersets, why they had a VIP beta, and why VIPs get free points, but I do agree. They haven't done videos of these new for pay sets (that I have noticed, but correct me if I am wrong), so it's hard to even figure out how the set looks (and the costume editor is not a good way of seeing the look and feel of a set).I can understand the OP's point of view. I have no particular comment on the objective evaluation of the set, but I do say that I would have been very appreciative if there would have been a public preview of sets when they are released.
Having an opprotunity to at least try the set before having to spend points to purchase would be a nice gesture. I know some people have had the opprotunity in beta, but beta isn't for everyone.
It would be neat if you could preview new sets for a predetermined period of time and then when that time is up the character that you made would be locked until you either purchased the set or deleted the character (to free up the slot).
I did purchase beam and didn't really enjoy it. That's approximately $7 (I've found it effective to view all points, whether free or not, in terms of dollars. It helps me keep in prespective exactly what the cost really is since "points" can be deceiving if this isn't kept in mind) that I wasted. I'm now going to be less likely to purchase new sets as they're released, because of that experience.
A lot of people have said they would like the option of a powers "training ground" when they level up, to see if they want a power or not. The same would be a good idea for pay sets, so people can see if they like how a set looks. This wouldn't fix discoveries made while fighting actual foes, but it would give us a better preview than we currently get, at least.
It could work well the other way for NCSoft, too. I did not think I would like Beam until I played it on beta, actually. Disintegration did not seem like the best mechanic for a Blaster when I heard about it on paper, but it works well enough in practice on hard targets. I drop bosses and EBs faster with my Beamer than any other Blaster, and I have played a lot of them. -
Quote:It's a 500 watt power supply. What else do you need to know for sure? I could probably link to it on Newegg still if you need the info to help. Oh, looks like I got it with my case, which is still on Newegg. The GTX 460 is rated at 160 watts. Since we don't know the details about GP's power supply it may be a gamble. That's the reason I suggested only the GTX 550Ti which is rated as using around the same amount of power as his current card, a 9800GT.
Here is the memory I have now, for instance. I can't figure out if they are 1 gig or 2, like you all are asking. It doesn't seen like 1, but I'm not sure.
I do have Window 7 64. I made sure to get that so it could read up to my 4 GB of RAM that I bought, so I didn't think it would have issues reading any more memory.
Thanks for the feedback, all. I had a hectic weekend and forgot to check this thread. But I really do appreciate the help. Not sure what I can do about a graphics card, though. That's more money, and will be harder to justify at this point.Especially to my wife, who has wanted a better digital SLR camera (as do I) for years now.

It's the same problem as the patches of doom at the end of Apex's Task Force. Many player powers are colored the same way and cover up the area all too well. At least with Apex you only have one team to worry about, too. With Keyes, you can have up to 24 people running around and confusing things, and there is a LOT more on the ground to hide that patch in with Keyes than there is in a destroyed Blyde Square.
And yes, animation lock. If I queue up an attack before one is done animating (which makes sense most of the time), sometimes lag or the above can make it hard to dodge this.
And let's face it, Trials can get laggy. I usually can dodge this stuff just fine, but others? I can't even see it or move until it's practically hitting already, sometimes due to hiccups on my computer's end, or the server... or something. -
Quote:Yup, I ran with my En/En Blaster a little before my DP/En, and they do perform fairly similar with Incendiary up.I find DP with Incendiary Rounds almost identical to Energy Blast, only with less mitigation (a single hold vs lots of KB) and a better nuke (though Nova is awesome when you do get to use it). With Standard ammo EB is a slightly weaker Energy Blast with a bit more mitigation (it has KB now and a stun but does around 10% less damage). It's not crippled as a Blaster set or anything, but I find it a lot more fun on Corruptors or Defenders who can actually use all the ammo types to noticeable effect.
If your concept is specifically a DP Blaster then go for it, but if you just want a DP character then I'd recommend a Corruptor or Defender because the set as a whole works better on those ATs.
I don't really have any issues with only using Incendiary or Standard only for Blasters. Incendiary is nice looking and shoots 'em down fast. Blasters aren't really about debuffing, but dropping them faster. I guess it'd be nice if the flavor meant more from the other round types, but Blasters just aren't debuffers. -
Oranges help as well... he hits pretty hard when the hits land. Also go in big with the AOEs and take out the smaller characters first so you can just focus on him. He'll maybe revive the minion, but you can juggle him pretty well with Solar Flare.
Don't be afraid of using inspirations, either. Doesn't sound like you are real reluctant, but needing to use them is not a bad thing. The game is designed with their use in mind.
Me, I mostly just make sure to have an orange and a purple popped at all times with him, and that gets me through okay. I've been fighting him and any bosses I encounter in human form. All other mobs (I think I've been at x2 with my PB for my solo runs of this) are in Nova for the bigger AOEs. I think he got lucky once and dropped me even with those up, but I've been okay at all other times.
Whatever form you use, make sure it's slotted well. I've been running on a PB exemped down, so his tri-form build is fully slotted. He's mostly built for recharge with that, though, and no defense boosts to speak of while in human. Just to make sure we know what we're comparing. -
They at first wanted to consolidate the AT forums, and this seems to be a holdover from that thinking. I do not get it at all, as the current AT divisions make SENSE. If you want info about Tankers, you come here, and it logically makes sense to think you could get build advice on Tankers here, which is also true.
Consolidating just makes the forums more complicated, as you suddenly have an all melee forum with tons of different ideas and approaches (which all the ATs really do represent). Same thing with the build forum. I do hope they get rid of it as well. -
Quote:See, that's interesting. I can't stand Corruptors or Defenders. They take far too long to kill stuff, and I actually find them to be less safe to play, at least for me (I think I'm a better Blaster player than a Corr or Defender). I'm speaking solo with this, but I know that I have to take far more hits (whether they are dodged or not), or mez for much longer to drop a boss or an EB with my Corruptors and Defenders.Oddly enough, I *don't* like Blasters for most of the reasons you guys like them. Running all over the place irritates me. Getting obliterated when the enemy glances at me infuriates me. All my blasters have been retconned as corrupters for added survive ability (all my defenders have been retconned as corrupters for added damage ability.)
Different strokes and all that~
Sure, on a team you can think that your buffs or debuffs are helping a lot (and they probably are). But Blasters are just lots of fun solo and teamed. That screaming, explosive playstyle is a lot of fun. -
Don't have time to add much, but one thing I want to emphasize is being careful of how you spend your slots. Even without getting into tri-forming with a human only build, you want to make sure you don't spread yourself too thin. Make sure you have solid attacks lined up, and even end use and resists, before slotting your heals too heavily. Yes, you want the heals slotted, but they're only so much help if you can't damage well or have no endurance.

Quote:It's only bad if you are thinking of it as "I'm going to be switching between these weapons willy nilly, meaning I will have to redraw constantly." In practical terms, you shouldn't need to, and you can act tactically so you do not have to redraw frequently (i.e., chain your powers from one set to reduce redraw). So the Weapon Mastery pool is like the most ill-conceived powerset in the game, I take it, as it thematically links up terribly with the actual weapons.
I have many weapon-using Scrappers, Tankers, and Blasters (some of them using Weapon Mastery), and it is not the issue you are imagining it to be. My War Mace Tanker does not have to use Dull Pain all that often mid-combat (and it's not much of an interrupt then). For my Blasters with Energy Melee for a secondary and Weapon Mastery, they're switching between powersets more often, but they can act as I noted above to reduce redraw.
That is the other bonus. It's also good to keep in mind that redraw was removed from the standard animation times due to player requests. When you are not redrawing, those sets are now much faster and more smooth. It was a buff, all in all. -
Quote:If you are a VIP and not a Tier 9 veteran (this refers to reward tokens that replaced the old veteran reward system), you should be receiving 400 points every month. If you were subscribed in July, you should have started receiving points than, as a reward to come into the new system with. Not sure how it would work if you were subscribed in July, but not August (don't know how that applies for you, either).I didn't get ANY points in September. Not store points nor reward tokens. This month I got store points but not reward tokens. Were we supposed to?
There are other bits of info around to let you know how many reward tokens you should have, but you should now be getting one of those per month you are subscribed, and if you buy a certain amount of Paragon Points (can't recall how many off the top of my head). -
Quote:You people make me cry whenever you say stuff like this. I agree that the main ammo to use as a Blaster is Incendiary or Standard, but you should be doing good AOE damage with Dual Pistols. Between Piercing Rounds, Bullet Rain, and Empty Clips, you should be mowing through stuff, even when the mini-nuke isn't up.Dual Pistols is fairly weak on Blasters. It looks cool and can mow down mobs when the mini-nuke is up, but for most spawns you're going to be doing mediocre damage (not horrible, but a bit below average) with weak secondary effects or average damage with no secondary effect... in practice you'll either always use Incendiary Ammo or you'll usually use Incendiary and sometimes use Standard for the KB. Adding Devices to an already low-to-medium damage primary will result in one of the lowest damage Blaster combinations possible (except every few spawns when you can use Hail of Bullets) unless you want to go really slow and use lots of Trip Mines. That's a perfectly valid way to play, but it's not beginner-friendly and doesn't mesh well with teams so I would.
Nothing wrong with Dual Pistols on a Blaster.
To get back to the OP, since Lara Croft is the theme, I think Dark and MM aren't the best choices. We unfortunately do not have a Martial Arts Secondary for Blasters (though I hope the devs are going to do it eventually), but Electric and its punches could be thought of as stun weapons, etc., without too much worrying about it.
Traps and other things have more options for Corruptors, of course. -
Quote:Yeah, my problem for not reading closely (thought your 10% applied to Bruising in the quote), though I do hate how we toss acronyms around, does make it harder to know what people are talking about.Heh, if Tanker RC granted -20% resist we'd see A LOT of StJ Tankers.
Oh well, we figured it out. Interesting that Rib Cracker does more -res. Though Tankers generally debuff higher, as a makeup for doing less damage. Kind of nice for some effects, though I'm not sure how much more another 3% (? or so?) gets them in terms of performance. -
Quote:Of course, in the words can often be the story that would otherwise be boring if you just sum it up, like you did.I just started doing the Ward on a Praetorian MM I made, I have to say, whoever wrote those missions was overly wordy. If I wrote missions they'd be like: Go empty that building and get back to me, kid. Or, Take down so-and-so and don't come back until you're successful.
Sometimes less is more.
I can't ever remember the lore anyway. Stupid menopause.
Can't help about the other thing. Enjoy the game since it's so new whenever you explore it?
And don't worry about being slow on the First Ward stuff, you should go slow on your first playthrough, if not more. Enjoy it. -

Something important to keep in mind is that this feature is still unscheduled, which means that both the time allotted for it and the actual "deadline" for its completion are up in the air. This gives the FX team some flexibility to investigate what the players really want out of this feature, and to make adjustments accordingly. Ive already done a few hours of preliminary research into customizing Granite Armor, so I have a good idea of how much time it'll take to accommodate the desires of the pro-Devouring Earth camp. Ultimately, I don't think this additional investment will have a significant impact on the feature's launch date.
I am quite happy to have received so much feedback about Granite Armor from all sorts of different perspectives, though. It's an indication that it's something you guys really want, and I'm always happy to try to accommodate specific, long-standing requests.
Also, thanks for the reports about the bugged path auras. We are actively looking into this.
Hey, while you're working on that, don't forget the good 'ole Kheldian forms.Equally important to those that like Kheldians, or those that don't play them or the forms because of their current locked in look.

Is that... after the first door mission for Noble? He has you talk to Palpatine, then you talk to someone else, then you get the door mission. I believe I was on Horatus's team, so I'm going to assume I should at least do that first door mission.
Blech, those shades are a big pain for a Controller. It's not worth using your controls until after you defeat the fake version of them, but the fake versions still take a lot of hits from me (where as with a Brute or Blaster, you hardly hit them and their shade comes out).
Still, I'm having fun. I'm at the same level my Grav/Kin stalled at, and that won't be an issue with this guy in Isos. -
Quote:Welcome back. Feel free to join in events and shout out when you would like to form a team. Little things like that help keep the server an active one.I came back in August after about 2 years away from the game. I always come back to Victory though. I've tried other servers in the past, it just didn't have the same feel.
I've always been a casual player, so most people don't know me. I'm always lurking in VB and Victory Forum though. Something about the people of Victory I just like.

This is so screwy. I still don't have mine for October (more than a week past my sub date, and a couple of days past the 12th), and people are getting theirs early.
And whether or not getting all the awards on the same day (the start of the billing for the month) is easier on the tech end, it really would be easier on the user end. It's also going to make for much fewer customer support issues for you all. -
Quote:Well, no matter what, your Warshade is probably going to be more survivable while solo than your Blaster will be. That's just the nature of the AT (though if you listen to Another Fan too much, you'll wonder how any Blaster ever survives... he likes to paint the picture far too darkly).Personally I don't see why it makes a difference if you're playing an ST set in melee or at range. If your build is solid enough, it won't matter if you stand 10 feet away and blow guys up or stand a foot away and blow guys up- Especially with an AoE Stun, ST to hit debuffs and a bunch of other goodies to boot.
As you said, you just need to know what to build for so things are solid. Building for defense is always a good idea on any AT, so doing that here is a good thing. I would think S/L might be the best if you want to be in close much, that's better than building for ranged damage defense.
The main key to making a weapon ranged set work as a Blaster is to handle things in chains with your attacks. Don't constantly swap between using Beam and Dark attacks: use Beam until you want to switch over to dark for the rest of a fight, so you don't waste time on redraw. I suppose that's really no different than most weapon ATs, but Scrappers, Tanks, etc. don't have as much reason to redraw from their defense sets as Blasters do from their secondaries.
Not really. Like I mentioned earlier, it's probably not the most uber pairing, but you can make it work just fine. There are many secondaries that work well up close (electric and energy), and they can be paired fine with most sets. You just have to learn to use the sets to maximum advantage. There is nothing about Beam that screams "you MUST be at range!" Yes, the cone is nicer when you are a little farther away, but that just means you start the fight there. Better to use it early on, and then when the mobs get closer you switch to Dark, with this pairing. Or you keep using beam, as your other attacks don't really care where you are.
As I said earlier, theme and fun can trump the numbers for most people, and I know TwoHeaded likes to have fun, and the void concept. He'll be fine. -

Hey all, computer setup question for you all. My current rig will turn three come December, and I'm wondering what my best options are to extend its life for another three years (assuming all its parts behave), since that's how long I'm trying to go between computer upgrades (can't really afford more often).
Last time I tried a mid-life upgrade to a computer, I'm not sure I made the best choice. I upgraded the 3D card slightly, but I can't say that it made its last three years noticeably better. I'm wondering if this time around I should upgrade to more RAM, since I currently have 4 GB and City of Heroes seems to like its RAM. Also, I can get another 4 GB RAM for not a whole lot more money ($50 or so), rather than over $100 for another graphics card that will play nice with my current setup. I'm thinking a new processor would also be too costly, or too difficult to fit in with my rig to make it worth it (but I'll listen if someone thinks otherwise).
I mostly play COH (and a little of the Total War series on the side, like Empire, and hopefully Shogun 2 when I can afford it). Might get some in to Portal and maybe some other MMOs, but I can't see me leaving CoH in the next three years.
Any thoughts you all could give me would be much appreciated. For a little more detail, I have a 512 MB 9800GT PCI Express 2.0 graphics card, 4 GB of DDR2 SDRAM, and an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 processor. Oh, and a 500 watt power supply. Let me know if you need any more info to help me out. -
Blech, hitting the level 20 doldrums for Controllers. Something about those are the worst for them... not enough slots in your long recharge powers, etc., not able to do enough damage, you name it. Tried soloing to get to 23 and it was a pain, especially when Doc Delilah decided to aggro roomfuls of Sky Raiders.
Where all did everyone leave off with the First Ward story arcs? I'm still on the first door mission for Noble Savage, since I somehow did not have that up when my team was working on it. Wondering if I need to go much beyond that point if at all, though. Hopefully not too much.
Getting close to the really good powers for Gravity and Time, though. Farsight and Wormhole in a couple more levels for me.And a couple more slots in my AOE hold and Time Stop will do wonders as well.

Assuming they have the beta test build notes correct, it is on test with the new Halloween event stuff. So we should be able to get these next week, since the event starts next Thursday. *crosses fingers*
And hopefully I'll get my October Paragon Points soon, and hopefully Street Melee will go on sale, too (so I don't have to wait until November to get it)! Oh, and I'd like a pony and to become a world famous author, too!
