In case you missed it: New Build Workshop forum...

In case anyone hadn't seen this, they've created a new forum Workshop for builds. While I personally think this will create more confusion then Zwill thinks it will reduce, I did want to point it out so folks know it exists. So now our attention to tank builds will be divided between forums.

Hopefully, once the booze stops flowing and Zwill sobers up, this useless piece of inanity will disappear.

Well, while I will use only this forum to post builds for critique and help, I do understand the idea of trying to give new players an obvious path to build advice and really like the officail recognition of MIDS.

If Mids did not exist I might not even still be playing at all. I certainly would not have two accounts, as I do. My time tweaking builds and studying builds and guides in these forums, and doing research in the Wiki probably accounts for a third of my total time playing.

As for the new forum helping newbies, unless they do something to make it come up in search engines, I don't see it being all that earth shaking. Anybody who finds it will already be in the AT forums too.

I hope that now the existing forums actually come up on page one of a search engine. They did not when I started two years ago, and I copied absolute trash pre-IO builds for almost a month off dead sites like Cold Front before I figured things out, mostly because SG mates told me where to look. I was really new and not forum skilled. Shoot I still don't have a sig, so maybe I am not typical.

With time being so precious, I am not going to scan the unorganized hodge-podge of builds I already see in the new Forum very often. That alone seems like a killer error. Hope it works as intended for new players.

All of the subject lines being uniform made looking for what I was trying to find seemingly more difficult.

There was something about it that seemed disorienting. Not to mention it seems nearly all the of the build critques have been ignored.

What the Build Workshop forum clearly needs is AT-specific subforums to avoid confusion.

I kid, I kid!!

Thats a bit too much credits to Mids imho, in the old days Sherksilver's builder was around also, in my experience slightly better.

This was my experience as well. I left shortly after looking at the first page of the thread.

Yeah, I don't get it either. If he claims people didn't know where to look for build info on the forums, and they weren't looking in the AT-specific forums, I think the only thing that should have been done is to make a large neon sign that says "Look here, dummies!"

I've already done one analogy in the Original discussion thread, but I'll throw another one in here that my wife not only got a chuckle out of, but agreed with.

The new forum reminds me of someone taking a shoebox of receipts to their accountant and saying "here".

Nothing sorted.

Some things labeled, but not consistently.

Just "here".

Four (in order of least to most):

1. guide forum has many builds and the occasional request for builds
2. generic AT Questions Forum has a reasonable amount of builds and requests
3. the new build forum is pretty active
4. AT specific forums still have the most

I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

They at first wanted to consolidate the AT forums, and this seems to be a holdover from that thinking. I do not get it at all, as the current AT divisions make SENSE. If you want info about Tankers, you come here, and it logically makes sense to think you could get build advice on Tankers here, which is also true.

Consolidating just makes the forums more complicated, as you suddenly have an all melee forum with tons of different ideas and approaches (which all the ATs really do represent). Same thing with the build forum. I do hope they get rid of it as well.

Guide: Tanking, Wall of Fire Style (Updated for I19!), and the Four Rules of Tanking
Story Arc:
Belated Justice, #88003
Synopsis: Explore the fine line between justice and vengeance as you help a hero of Talos Island bring his friend's murderer to justice.
Grey Pilgrim: Fire/Fire Tanker (50), Victory

Yep. More of the "We've heard you. It's a bad idea. We're gonna do it anyhow." we've been getting from them.

Apparently they DON'T make sense to someone who just joined the game today, barely understands how to log in, and isn't even aware the forums are here.

Oh. And Zwillinger.

This goes back to something I'd talked about when the whole "merge the AT forums" talk came up. At that point, they're relying on their end-users to segregate by formatting.

NEVER

GOING

TO

HAPPEN

This was tried on USENET. And has been tried at some point on nearly EVERY board, blog, etc, etc. It never works.

But the mighty Zwill is gonna MAKE it work THIS TIME!

*Cue 20 years of experience moving me to derisive laughter*
