    Going TW/DA

Another thread that has inspired an influx of a certain build. Seeing lots of TW/DA's at low level now.

Just like I was seeing plant/storms.

Funny, how some threads turn out to be very influential on people.

I have a Kat/DA that's maxed out IO and incarnate wise and I love him to death. TW/DA is probably incredibly good once you get a handle on your endurance issues. Dark regeneration is simoly an unbelievable power that makes the set worth it by itself.
  2. Nope and max defense debuff resistance is around 52%.

Except I know you know that isn't necessarily true either.

Pairing well and ideal are two different things.

That makes sense if you're not regen.

But if you're regen, Beetle has pointed out a pretty good time to use your clickable heals, especially if it'll make the difference between face planting and not face planting. Can't deal damage face down on the ground.

If the set seems slow to you, I wonder if you're leaning too heavily on focused burst and repulsing torrent?
I have focused burst, but typically only use it on runners or at ranged, never when I'm actually at melee.

I don't have quick strike or repulsing torrent in my build. I use body blow, smashing blow, and concetrated strike with burst when appropriate.

I really like that concentrated strike can recharge power siphon, but at the same time if it doesn't get a chance to deal damage it doesn't get a chance to do so. That's actually where I started to become disenamored with the set, when I noticed this happening repeatedly.
  6. So, I created a KM/Regen scrapper and I really liked the animations and even the odd sound of KM. The biggest thing that I got really sick of was the fact that half the time I'd attack my target would be dead before I actually got to deal damage to it.

Now, maybe this isn't as much of a problem as I was thinking it was when I was playing the character, but I'm thinking of remaking this character as a KM/EA.

Do you players of kinetic melee character find the corpse bashing to be extremely frequent and/or annoying? Or have you not noticed this as a problem at all?
  7. This thread must of had some impact on people. I've been noticing a ton of pre-level 20 Plant/Storms as I'm leveling up now.
  8. After playing with poison on a corrupter for a while I've decided, that for me, poison isn't worth while on a MM. It works well on a corrupter, but I just can't see struggling to keep my pets alive when I can go with another set that can provide me both reasonable debuffs and useful buffs for my pets.

It's a shame. I thought poison might be fun.
  9. I've recently started playing around with poison and I really like what it is capable of as far as debuffs, even though I feel 8 ft radius' are very low for the effects of many of the powers.

The one concern I've had is that poison doesn't really lend anything to the survivability of the pets directly only indirectly through a couple -tohit -damage debuffs. Since these debuffs are in a small range I feel they aren't as great defensively as buffs that I can simply put on my pets.

So, which pets seem to pair the best with poison as far as durability and surviving goes?
  10. I'd say be wary about choosing ice as your primary.

I have an ice/earth dom that is a lot of fun to play, but her effectiveness can really be dulled down to zero in a lot of cases. Especially in things like the ITF where nearly all the mobs have high KB resistance.

Any mobs highly resistant to knockdown will be really rough on you since the biggest control for ice is ice slick. Most of the time this is a great control, because the mobs have very few opprotunities to attack you when they're continually falling, but on teams you find that people will immobilze mobs which, most control sets, will cause the mobs to stop falling. Or someone will knock all the mobs off the ice slick. This can effectively neutralize you're most effective control.

I've actually found myself KO'd a few times, because I'm at melee with a boss that's falling all over ice slick, someone hits an immob and I take a couple of heavy shots that puts me down.

The redundancies of the slows in ice can be particuarly useless as well. It usually doesn't matter how fast a mob is moving if it dies in the first few seconds of a fight. This also tends to lower the average benefit of -recharge powers. If a mob only has one chance to attack, it doesn't really matter how fast or slow it's powers recharge. It's great on hard targets like AV's, but on average it's going to be less useful.

Unless Ice is thematic for you, I'd generally steer away from it.
  11. I'm not sure at this point. I'm bouncing around between AT's and character concepts trying to find something I like.

Currently, I'm leveling an Ice/Earth dom which has actually turned out to be a lot of fun.
  12. So, in my search to find the next character that I'll enjoy I started trying out different controllers, blasters, stalkers, and dominators.

I recently gave a Plant/Time controller a try and I found that I really enjoyed the plant primary. It seemed very functional and very effective at low levels with plenty of room to grow at higher levels. Time seemed like a great secondary for plant with some nice debuffs and a secondary single target hold. Not to mention the capability of very high recharge rates.

My question though is between a dominator and controller they'll have similar lower level performance with damage capability probably being edged in the dominator's favor. However, how do they compare at their peak performance in both control and damage capabilities?

Between the two, I'm really looking for a balance between lowend and highend performance. Insights would certainly be appreciated. Thank you.
  13. That's, because they probably can only proc on the intial cast. Procs can be very buggy in powers that create temporary pet type things.

I'd pay close attention to the intial effects and see what's going on.
  14. Just PuGs and TF/SF teams.

I already have two farming characters I use when I feel like farming.

I considered a stalker to begin with, because I enjoyed the stealth components I had on my previous scrappers with DA and EA. When I don't get to use AS or utlizing stealth, I seem like a squishy and less effective scrapper.

So far I enjoy a stalker much more solo than on a team. Though, soloing does get boring from time to time.

And for a boss to be killed that fast by AoE, by the way, the LTs around it are being three-times overkilled by the same AoE. The minions, up to six times overkilled (worse if the boss had higher resistance to that damage). In other words, the team is ridiculously overpowered as compared to the challenge. The problem there is not really Assassin Strike.
That's probably true. These teams seem more and more common as levels go up. The problem with that though, I seem to be able to utilize stealth and assassin strike less and less. I have to rush ahead of the team over and over to try and get prepared to get an AS out if I want to have a chance to use it. It was far less an issue on lower level teams. If these are considered core powers for a stalker is there not a better way to ensure that they can be utilized more regularly on any team? Or is it always going to be a game of trying to stay two steps ahead of the rest of the team?
  16. I think TW/WP is going to be pretty standard for a while.

You might not be able to softcap many defenses with WP, but S/L is usually more than enough with the amount regeneration you're capable of with WP.

I think the fact that WP has quick recovery and the potential to have physical perfection from the epic power pools will make it pretty popular with TW since it sounds like TW might be rather endurance intensive.

Furthermore, since TW is said to have many AoE attacks it really does lend itself well to rise to the challenge.

They do bring something unique, an alpha strike, and it's included fear/to-hit debuff. However, I often find it doesn't make up for the disadvantages of the AT. Being that the usefulness of taking a certain foe out of the fight is so easily replicated with a single target hold, it's often unneeded.

That said, I still roll and play Stalkers all the time, and have fun doing so. I just wouldn't mind if they ever did get a buff.

Personally, I would love to see them become true assassins in that they can really dish it out versus tough targets, and not be outclassed by a Brute just charging in. (e.g. make them AV/boss killers with Assassin's Strike doing massive damage versus really tough targets)
An issue I've been finding with assassin strike is that I always seem to be in a position where I'm rushed to get an AS out. If I don't hurry the mob I'm targetting is either killed before I can actually hit them, the target is knocked back, or some other event takes place that either neutralizes the AS or dimishes the value of it. I'm not sure why AS must take so much time to animate, be easily interrupted, and cost so much endurance all at once.

This seems especially true when a team is very AoE capable and large mobs disappear very rapidly.
  18. I don't really care.

I'm not interested in defending my position or particular use of words. If you've posted to simply argue a point, you're wasting your time. Some of you have only posted in the thread to join an argument.

You can continue to post why you choose to play a stalker if you wish. I have no further feedback on the argument.

For many people, the things you ask for in the main post are viewed as superficial. Your original post has the attitude of "What's the point when other ATs are stronger?" To many, thinking you aren't going to enjoy the character for that reason is superficial because all you are concerned with is performance, not the character. The damage/survival/speed, not the story or reason the character was created.

Simply put, your interpretation of my intentions is wrong. That's all.

So overall, you didn't really answer my question, as I was wondering from experienced Blaster players or others who might know, if this is solid perhaps for leveling, and if I should work on some other ideas later on down the road.
Not at all. Maybe more to the point than I should be when I cannot convey emotion through text. Talen and Lord had it right. Don't worry too much about it. If you like what you're doing that is what matters.

It might be a different story if you were uncertain as to whether or not you wanted to play a blaster, but it seems you're fairly certain on that. At this point it's just a matter of finding what works for you.

Just re read your own posts, and think if you left something out in them or wrote them assuming other people would interpret them in some other way than what Zem has, because I agree with that interpretation. It does seem like you are looking for a "best" stalker, or some sort of super stalker that surpases all other stalker combinations.
I didn't feel it was necessary to explain myself any further.

However, I cannot care less about the combinations. I didn't ask what people thought about the sets. I'll play what I want to play.

I asked the question, because I'm looking to see if I'll care to play a stalker any further than I already have. Pretty much all the answers have amounted to intangible evidence as to why one should be a stalker. It all comes down to a "feeling" which is a superficial reason to play an AT.

I have played many characters recently that I simply haven't enjoyed and have rerolled them at different level ranging from as early as 10 to as late as the mid 40's. I'm not interested in wasting anymore of my limited play time. So, I ask questions like this one. Unfortunately answers that boil down to "because I like it" doesn't give me an idea of whether I'm going to like it. (Though the responses are welcomed and the insight is helpful. But, it's anecdotal at best)

That's pretty much all I have to say about that.

Because if you're asking if a Stalker can participate in and contribute to the success of a team then the answer is yes, of course they can! But if you're concerned that they can only do so 5% less effectively than a comparable Scrapper then I have to say I'm not convinced you AREN'T after the min/max best performance, otherwise why care about a slight performance difference? Because honestly, it IS pretty slight (and often overstated tremendously on the forums).
I like how you're trying to tell me what I was thinking. You're not doing a very good job at getting it right though. I'm clearly not bothered that you aren't convinced.

Frankly, I've let you disturb the thread enough. I noticed that the only posts you had in this thread was, because you didn't like something I said. Not that you had anything to contribute to the thread itself. If you have issues as to why I'm asking the question. Oh well. If for some reason you don't like the thread. Please ignore it.

If your concern is absolute min/max performance then you won't be playing a Stalker. Then again, there are quite a lot of brute and scrapper powerset combos you won't be playing either. I'm sure there are plenty of DPS charts and what-not for Scrappers, for example, that will direct you to "the best" powerset so that you can ignore all others as "superficial".
If I was concerned with the best, I'd not have posted in the stalker forum to begin with.

As for the rest. Context. You can choose to be snarky if you like.
