Which Primary lends itself best with Poison
poison is a very underwhelming set on every front...personally i can never recommend a mm secondary that doesnt almost nothing to protect the pets or even the mm himself. other sets do everything better and with less effort, but as a very theme-oriented player i can still try to point you in the right direction
bots would seem to come to mind as overall best choice. they can buff/heal for themselves and they are the most self-sufficient pets out there. plus their shields are also for the mm
demons or necro are a very close 2nd since the tier 3 pets(prince/lich) are beasts for crowd control once fully upgraded.

Sable Affliction - Earth/Dark/Fire Dom
Wild Cipher - Beast/Time MM
You want to pair it with a set that has reasonable mitigation on it's own, this means generally thugs, bots, demons. I wouldn't even consider ninjas or mercs, they're just too squishy on their own, and despite poison's reputation as "the debuffer" it sorely lags behind other debuff sets on multiple targets.
I enjoy my thug/poison quite a bit, but he's by no means a powerhouse (+1/x4 is about as high as I go most of the time). I'd put bots last out of the three mentioned above simply because the assault bot tends to remain stationary, and noxious gas is best used on a boss henchman that will get into the fray and stick to enemies.
I agree with Dark Impact, although the order of preference I have is Thugs, Demons, and thirdly the Bots. After level 38 Necro isn't bad, but its a long road to get to where you can put the noxious gas on the grave knight.

HelinCarnate:OMG it is so terrible. I have the option to take 3 more powers but no additional slots. Boo F'ing hoo.
ive deleted my necro/poison cause its very frustrating and annoying.
1 Longbow flamethrower and you whole crowd burns like hell...
You got nothing to protect your pets except your debuffs and the self heals from necros is not enough to keep them alive.
Got a thugs/poison mm aswell, lvling here was ok...
But as already said more then +1/+4 on difficulty is not recommended.
Robots are solid choice....cant go wrong with it
BANG BANG!!!
After playing with poison on a corrupter for a while I've decided, that for me, poison isn't worth while on a MM. It works well on a corrupter, but I just can't see struggling to keep my pets alive when I can go with another set that can provide me both reasonable debuffs and useful buffs for my pets.
It's a shame. I thought poison might be fun.
I have leveled a Thugs/poison and a Robots/poison to level 50. It's a little more bumpy than a Bots/Dark for sure, but the only combo I have really given up on is my Ninja/FF. I leveled both before /poison received the 'splash' buff. Thugs/poison is a medium difficulty, but it accelerates immensely after you can put noxious gas on the Bruiser. The key to a MM using /poison is fast recharge (and range on neurotoxic) on neurotoxic and paralytic. When you take a patron power, I suggest one with an AoE immobilize to keep the foes out of melee with the mastermind.

For DS/Poison, the resistance debuff from Envenom stacks nicely with the resistance debuffs from some of your demons and your whip to enable you to kill enemies quickly and efficiently. Also Neurotoxic Breath makes a good power to stack with the Demon Prince's recharge slows, so your enemies can't recharge fast enough to keep fighting you.
For Thugs/Poison Weaken will add enough toHit debuff to bring your Thugs' effective defense up to soft cap, and the Bruiser makes a good target for Noxious Gas.
I also had a Mercs/Poison I enjoyed playing, but Noxious Gas didn't work quite as well on Commando due to his aversion to melee fighting. He hardly ever stood close enough to my enemies to affect them with it. (Was great on AV's though. I'd put Serum on him, and then use a GoTo command to put him next to the AV.)
I've recently started playing around with poison and I really like what it is capable of as far as debuffs, even though I feel 8 ft radius' are very low for the effects of many of the powers.
The one concern I've had is that poison doesn't really lend anything to the survivability of the pets directly only indirectly through a couple -tohit -damage debuffs. Since these debuffs are in a small range I feel they aren't as great defensively as buffs that I can simply put on my pets.
So, which pets seem to pair the best with poison as far as durability and surviving goes?
