So, recently I started a thread asking what archtype and powersets they felt could do everything. So far there have a been a variety of answers, but the largest porition seem to agree that SS/FA/Soul or Mu brutes are the best way to go.
I have tons and tons of characters. I have several just for farming, a few just for fun, and some just, because I was curious.
I find myself in the position where I'd really like to have one character I can dedicate myself too and do as much as I possibly can with it. I'd like to be able to solo the ITF, TFs/SFs, farm, solo AV's, and GMs. I'd like to do this with one character with one build.
I know that seems like a lot to ask, but I'd like to see if it is at all possible. I've looked in to SS/FA builds and I've seen quite a few, but it seems most of them are soley dedicated to farming or just PvE.
So, I've worked to see if I could piece together a build that might be sufficent for everything. My main concern with the build, currently, is that the build may not have enough HP or recharge. Everything that I've placed in the build are things I already have, I plan to purchase purple sets to improve the build more later.
What I am interested in right now, is advice on my slotting and IO choices and whether or not there is anyway I can make this build better for an all purpose build. I've posted the build below. I appreciate any and all assistance. Thank you very much.

Awesome post, Montaugh.
I've never really considered an Elec tank, Electric armor has been a set that I think I tried once, but I've always leaned toward defensive sets rather than resistive sets. I may have to give electric armor a fair shot.
Thejazman, this seemed like a good guide which was updated for i19
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=122860
I have a bots trap character that's been sitting at 32. It does seem like it would be a very successful catch all character, if you don't mind managing pets.
I empathzie with SinsterDirge, I sort of like doing the damage directly as well.
I am having a hard time finding a lot of updated guides though, that's a shame. -
-
Quote:I've never solo'd any of the SF/TFs or solo'd many of the AVs. That might be interesting.SS/fire/soul brute.
They can farm (if you really care about your time that bad you can make a mu build for just farming), solo most of the TFs in the game (not just the high ones lvl either), are damn near unkillable, have enough dps to kill AVs with only AoE attacks, and over 300 STdps before you throw in lore pets.
I forgot to mention they arent that bad at PvP either, if you want to make a build for that too.
Of course, it aint cheap. -
-
If you were going to make one character and only one character to do everything you could possibly want to do in the game (Farm, SF/TF, missions, etc)
What archtype and powersets would you choose and why? -
I've played claws before and absolutely love the set. If I had to choose one scrapper set that I felt was efficent at everything, I'd choose claws.
Claws has a great single target chain, great AoE chain, low endurance usage, and fast animations, and recharge times.
I have very successful claws/SR brute that I use for farming, SF's, and pretty much whatever else I want.
However, for the first time I'm making a regen character and I'm not wholely certain as to what can be accomplished with regen considering that regen lacks defense and quite a bit of resistances.
Is regen to click reliant as far as self heals to be a very success farming character? Is passive regen good enough to see you through most encounters (relying sparsely on the lower self heals, as IH and MOG are slightly long recharges) -
I'm going to wager, probably not very good.
-
I can't seem to find one, but I thought there was a guide that explained the ins and outs of the AE.
I use to know a lot about it, but I have not played in a long time and am rather lost.
I was rolling for level 30-39 recipes and every last one was level 50. I thought, even if you were level 50, that there was a way to roll for the level recipes you want.
Thank you. -
I've done a few searches on Kinetic Melee and I only seem to find builds. I'm a returning player that hasn't playing almost 3 years so I'm messing around with the sets that weren't around when I was playing.
With builds aside, what is the overall view of KM? What is it good at? What is it bad at? Which attacks are great, which are awful?
I'm just looking for information that tells me what Kinetic Melee's niche is. How does it perform leveling up and at max level? General information such as that.
Thanks. -
Quote:I'd have to agree with you, with as much recharge as I put in the orginal build I've found, by mulling over the numbers, that my lower tier attack will be recharge far sooner than I will get through my typical attack chain. As others have pointed out, Axe doesn't benefit all that much from recharge, and neither does Super Reflexes. Axe DPA is very consistent across most of its attacks, making high recharge both less necessary and less beneficial than in other sets. The way that defense functions, Super Reflexes actually has NO use for recharge. Elude is useless in the current defense system once soft capped.
I'd go with +hp/+regen and +recovery/+max end.
I could easily dial back the recharge and look for more benefical set bonuses. -
Just quickly running over the build I'd have to say just a couple of things.
The pvp sets are definitely not need if you are just going to use him for a lib farmer, not to meantion those IOs are so ridiculously priced you'd have to farm for.....well, a damn long time to get the investment back.
The slotting you really should be considering is +HP, +End, +recovery, and recharge.
You'll be able to easily survive the typed damage from the Nemesis due to the fact that your resists will be structured most effectively against their damage types. With the back up from probably the most powerful self heal in the game you shouldn't have problems.
Defense is going to be rather pointless for the purpose of farming. It may aid you in the alphas, but you will easily survive them on resists and healing alone. After the first Colonel goes down you'll find vengeance easily closes the gap that the defense was providing. When it becomes stack defense is pretty pointless.
I'd recommend taking another look at your build in general and reconsider the set bonuses you're going for, because other than the pvp bonuses you're really gaining nothing significant that'll aid you in farm that you couldn't get from immensely cheaper sets. -
-
When I find myself with an extra power choice available I pick up taunt, mainly, because it can be handy and you do get some useful set bonuses from mocking beratment and perfect zinger.
However, it isn't needed by a brute. It comes down to your personal preference. Personally some of my brutes outright won't be meant to fill a tanking position while others will. My claws/SR brute, for example, was not intended to fill the tanking position when I built him while my Stone/Stone or my SS/Invuln certainly was.
If you can't fill a tanking role with your brute, don't be afraid to tell a team you aren't a tank. I play my brutes to bring in heavy melee damage and if I happen to hold aggro so be it. If I want to tank I'll play one of my brutes that I built to do so.
So, all in all the whole thing is personal preference. -
So, I like mess around with mids and I make tons of builds over a few days at a time and I thinking I really enjoy the performance of my claws/SR brute, so I thought I could probably kick up the survivability a notch without having to rely on aid self by switching to DM.
I've done my best to go for +recharge, +end, +HP, +regen, and still maintain soft capped defense and the best attack chain I can. I figure I can go with Smite - MG - Smite - SL while hasten is up and go with Smite - MG - Smite - Gloom - SL while hasten is down for a brief period.

Quote:O.oWell, there's no magic "global" recharge number, just a total recharge for each power.
Cast times are: Smite 1.188s, MG 2.244s, SL 2.112s.
To do Smite->MG->Smite you need Smite to recharge in 2.244s, which means it needs a total of 6s / 2.244s = 2.674 = +167.4% Rech. For it to recharge during a SL cast it needs 6s / 2.112s = 2.841 = +184.1% Rech.
MG needs to recharge in 1.188s x 2 + 2.112s = 4.488s. That requires 15s / 4.488s = 3.342 = +234.2% Rech.
SL needs to recharge in 1.188s x 2 + 2.244s = 4.62s. 10s / 4.62s leads to a need for +116.5% Rech.
Since MG is the neediest, assume it takes Purples (except the proc). 5 Hecas plus a Dampened Spirits End/Rech gives +97.9%, leaving a need for +136.3% recharge external to the power.
That much external to the other two attacks leaves a need for 47.8% Rech slotted in Smite and none in Siphon Life.
well that was a thorough response. Thank you. -
I was curious to how much global recharge is required to get a Smite -> Midnight Grasp -> Smite -> Siphon Life?

Quote:So, if I just decided to go with 3 sets of Kinetics, I'd pick up about 12% S/L defense. I imagine that 29% defense would actually be pretty helpful, but if I were to do that am I neglecting my accuracy too much? I'm not sure exactly how to decipher what my to-hit chance would be looking at the numbers in mids.Oppressive gloom does not stack with itsself. You'll be stacking stuns by using whirling mace. Your immob proc will have a roll-chance every 10 seconds, which isn't too terribly useful. If you want to immob them, maybe pick up Web Envelope from the patrons. Or, simply rely on your KD.
If you do decide to start stacking defense, I'd definitely look into enfeebled in web grenade as well, and revert back to the defense build. 4 Kinetics and 2 mocking beratements is fairly efficient.

Level 1: Fury -
Managed to self sustain myself on a Rikti raid today. Fought EB after EB at one point tanking 3 54 EBs and 2 54 boss while there were only 3 people left standing in the raid.
I did, however, die once from an ill timed bomb explosion.
Sadly, I've had 3 people tell me "Good luck with that SR brute" while teaming and "I'm in the process of dismantling mine".
Mine is performing admirably. Now to get my hands on Bill Z Bubba's classified build plans. -
You'll just be a slave to fury like the rest of us soon.

Quote:Honestly, I've gotten nearly all my kinetic combats from AE, by running a few arcs from time to time and using my tickets to roll silver 30-34. I've gotten quite a few nice rolls that way. Another way is to do orbro missions that exempt you to level 35. Your drops will all be in that range and it helps target that drop level.Money is not problem for me, not because i have a lot of it, but because i don't mind spending time earning it. I didn't think of using merits though. Is there anything useful i could buy with AE tickets, as doing one arc seems to give you about 250 of them which is mental
I'm liking the build so far as well, appart from the attacks not being 6 slotted which is what i would have liked, but i guess you cant have that without sacrificing a lot of the build. This is one of the reasons i'm not the biggest fan of inv as sometimes i end up having too many slots or too many power choices with other sets, which tbh i quite like. -
Quote:The only real reason his build is costly is the reliance on having those purple sets to make some of his attack worth while with only 4 slots. Other than that it really is only a matter of time to form his build.I'm thinking about 3 Billion at the low end right?
Plus it is the red-side so supply would be a huge issue, a previous poster mentioned that 5 sets of Kinetic Combats/Imperviums might be difficult to come by unless you're buying them yourself with merits.
Might be easier to buy a bunch of LotG +recharges, max out the S/L resist and rely on the offense to "mitigate the damage".
It all depends on whether or not he has the patience to avoid the "Got to have it now" fever. I've found imperviums to be pretty ready in supply at a mild cost compared to what funds most people seem to have these days.
The cost on the kinetic combats can be between 30-60 million, but mainly due to low supply as they are level 35 IOs. However, a happy median can be met by buying the more expensive (Merit wise: 200 merit cost) with infamy and meriting the lower costs which are 100-125 merits, if I recall correctly. There may be one that was only 50 merits. I make more than 50 merits during a day of play by running a LGTF and ITF as fast as possible with other teammate. Usually it takes about a hour, sometimes more and sometimes less to run both of them.
His build is managable, though, I tend to build without the reliance of purples and add them later if they'll provide a signifcant increase to the builds efficeny. -
Looking at this new build, I think you are improving in areas, however, I concur with Finduilas advice, and offer a bit more of my own.
First, off I would say never put extra slots in brawl. Take Find's advice and remove the impervium armor set from tough and replace it with reactive armor at least if not fully following what Find has already said. You'll find the meger amount of psi resistance and defense are not going to shore up the deficiencies against Psi.
A good rule to remember with procs is that they are great to place in an attack only if you've already reached your damage cap for that attack. Generally your DPS is going to be much higher overall if you have your attacks well slotted for damage rather than erratic spikes and dips in your damage with an underslotted attack with a proc in place.
Find is right about the Kinetic combats being hard to get, but if you stick with it you'll get them. I have 4 sets on my SS/WP right now and it took me a few weeks to get them, but it has been worth it.
With follow up, it is better to fully slot it as an attack, ignoring the chance for build up, for the same reason I mentioned about other procs. Sure getting that extra 40% to-hit and 80% damage is great when it happens, but at a 5% chance you'll not see it as often as you like and you'll see much better gains from it being slotted efficently as an attack.
I've moved around things a bit and think that the changes I made shore up your build a bit adding more accuracy, soft capped S/L with one target on invincibility, raises your overall accuracy by a large margin (You'll be happy with the numbers without follow up and very happy with follow up in effect), I also hedge up your S/L resists to over 70% along with slight increases in every other resist which will be extremely useful. I think you'll find it more useful than the mere 15% psi resistance you had.
All of your attack are now near the damage caps which will great increase your DPS compared to what you had before. I think in general your build has improved a lot and that it'll be much more managable from this point on.
I think you the capped S/L defense, 70% S/L resists and 23-26% in everything else, 43.1 HP regen/sec, and a solid attack chain will make this character pretty survivable. I'm sure there are still things that can be done to tweak this build, but I don't see anymore at the moment.
Here's the changes I made:

I am curious about what is thought of removing the rope-a-dopes from Oppressive Gloom and replacing them with two more pieces of the razzle dazzle set (One being the 20% for a mag 2 immobilize proc)?
I thought the added 2.5% S/L defense would be marginally helpful, but the immobilize would probably help with keeping some of the minions and Lts. from wandering out of my Opressive Gloom.
Also, now that I think about it wouldn't the mag 2 immobilize and a mag 2 stun stack to either immobilze or stun a boss? I know you can stack an immobilize a mag 2 immobilize and a mag 2 hold to hold a boss, so how would the immobilize and stun stack and what effect would be dominant? -
Quote:Really good advice Tonality, you're always very helpful. I'd love to get my defense for S/L up that high, but I'd have to make many concessions that I don't think would be too beneficial, hopefully having all that HP and decent resists will go long enough to make us of that heal. Thanks, I'll take your advice and make the changes and give this build a try. I'm really interested in seeing how this guy will turn out.--Did you know /DA loves Carnies?
Now IO stuff.
-If you can fit another slot in crowd control, you can get that nice +hp bonus
-I might suggest sacrificing that nrg defense in death shroud for multistrike's triple or dam/end for better endurance efficiency (you don't wanna burn end to quick)
-I find +end is more effective than +recov. Combined is even better.
-**IMPORTANT** - get that theft of essence proc in Dark Regeneration. IT's a 10% chance per enemy hit to give you 10 end back. That's huge on a heal like this!
-I might actually suggest getting a BoTZ KB in superspeed instead. Then you can drop the kismet in CJ and have a free slot open. That could go in crowd control for an nrg dmg proc. Oh, how I love crowd control! Or, a 2nd slot in taunt for the 1.8 end bonus. Between those two choices, I'd go HP.
-To save some coin, use the multistrike triple over the scirr triple if you're not getting any set bonuses. (I already asked you to buy a BoTZ +kb, so I gotta make it up to ya)
Good things I like:
-Your attacks are very endurance efficient. I think if you were to round it out with the recharge bonus you'd still be fine if you want to switch to the 5th crushing.
-Health is slotted nicely. Except for adding a panacea, there really is no possible way to improve on this (and that's expensive)
-Good recovery.
-+348.6 HP (23.3%) HitPoints - great number, and it's going to be hard to get it much higher without PvP IO's or slotting some patrons up for the purple pet set or devastation/apocypse.
If you do decide to go the defense route, just shoot for 32% S/L. A small luck will cap you. For the ITF, I find I need to get 5-10% higher than the softcap (via buffs) if I'm going to avoid cascade failure. So, you will likely find that weave and the small amount of defense that you do have won't do much on the ITF. My guess is you'll not be running weave or CoD on that, and be firing dark regen as much as you can.
A couple of things, I was curious about, do you think he'll be able to make it through the 18 seconds his heal is down on most of the things I like to do? I wouldn't mind giving some 0/x8 carnie missions a go, but I still do love squishing Rikti in large groups. ITF I can usually count on large buffs, but I'll make sure my inspiration tray is well prepared, more so than most of my characters.
