Claws/Regen

I've played claws before and absolutely love the set. If I had to choose one scrapper set that I felt was efficent at everything, I'd choose claws.

Claws has a great single target chain, great AoE chain, low endurance usage, and fast animations, and recharge times.

I have very successful claws/SR brute that I use for farming, SF's, and pretty much whatever else I want.

However, for the first time I'm making a regen character and I'm not wholely certain as to what can be accomplished with regen considering that regen lacks defense and quite a bit of resistances.

Is regen to click reliant as far as self heals to be a very success farming character? Is passive regen good enough to see you through most encounters (relying sparsely on the lower self heals, as IH and MOG are slightly long recharges)

I don't think I've played Regen since Willpower came out.

'I don't like the look of it at all,' said the King: 'however, it may kiss my hand if it likes.'
'I'd rather not,' the Cat remarked.
'Don't be impertinent,' said the King, 'and don't look at me like that!' He got behind Alice as he spoke.
'A cat may look at a king,' said Alice.

I wouldn't use a /Regen for farming. Actually, I would just because it would be different and more challenging than faceroll through your attack chain.

Regens are great. You just have to be more pro-active and use your brain to avoid any incoming damage to be superior to your reactive capacities.

At late levels, you can alternate between MoG, Shadow Meld (if u choose to go that route) and Instant Healing. Add Shockwave's mitigation to that and you'll be able to survive most situations.

I'm also trying to decide between Claws/Regen, Spines/Regen and MA/Regen. I'm sure it will be a very fun ride to 50.

MY passive regen is good enough to see me through most encounters, but I'm an oddball among /Regen players, I actually slot for lots of passive regen (my main has just over 700% with just Integration running).

Most experienced regen players would probably tell you no, but that's because they are operating on the theory that adding regen to a set that already has lots of it is a waste of slots. Nothing wrong with that theory, I just disagree with it.

Between my moderate amount of defense and my high passive regen, I can get through most fights without having to hit a click heal, which lets me save them for when I REALLY need them.

One thing to keep in mind with Regen is that it does have some in-combat clicking to be aware of, more than WP or SR, at least. Redraw factor may have a negative influence on farming, especially on such short term boosts as MoG.

Regen loves primaries that offer Defense buffs (e.g. Katana & Broadsword) or ToHit debuffs (e.g. Dark Melee), though the latter can be resisted by more powerful opponents. I'd recommend Katana > Dark > BS, personally. I'd also recommend saving this idea for when Brutes get Regen, because of the extra base HP and higher HP cap.

I slotted for defense and recharge on my budget-conscious BS/Regen (Spiritual Alpha is a must-have). With accolades and perma-hasten, you fall into perma-Dull Pain, which keeps your HP capped. I didn't seek out any regen bonuses, but still have 684% base regen, which has been plenty so far. I often find myself forgetting to hit DP (Hasten is on auto), because the survivability is so good I don't need it that often.

I'd pair it with Katana first. This is not to say Claws can't work or be effective but Divine Avalanche is just that good when paired with Regen. Ideally, i'd shoot for 30% Defense to S/L damage so 1 hit of DA will soft-cap you. After that I'd build towards recharge and then Regen. As Posters mentioned above, Spiritual Alpha was CUSTOM made for regenners.

The build I'm curently using is posted below.

My first ever character was a Claws/Regen, and he's still one of my favourite characters 6 years on. Claws/Regen is a brilliant combination. I wouldn't change mine for anything.

Redraw is only an issue if pretend it's one. The best sets to pair with a regen cause redraw, and you'll be kicking so much *** you won't even notice the few momentary pauses in between.
~~
Regen will also be getting its buff this tuesday with i21 - enhanceable regen debuff resistance in FH and base 9.36 res(all) in resilience.
It's not particularly *bad* at farming... but being a regen doesn't really add anything to the experience like a /fa or /shield would. That is, no damage aura, no AoE burnination (or shield charging), no AAO, nothing. You *really* don't benefit from the farming style fighting, but that doesn't make you bad, you're just not that type of fighter, just like a /sr. You're still whooping everything, just not as well as other secondaries could.

I myself am working on a Claws/Regen, and i have found what seem to be three schools of thought regarding it, yet i'm not sure how to build any of the three.

One school, reccomends your standard kinetic combat sets and trying to soft cap s/l
another reccomends you focus on perma-hasten/psychotic amounts of recharge
the third, which i couldn't find a build on, reccomended passive regen capping.

I would like a cirtique of the build posted below if anyone with experience wouldnt mind.

The third school isn't the path to maximum survivability. It IS nice to have a lot of passive regeneration, though, so it's hard to argue with on quality of life grounds.

I can't open builds from data links, so I can't comment directly on the build. But generally speaking, you want psychotic recharge first, defense second. They're not mutually-exclusive though, at least if you have the budget. I'd probably be shooting for hitting the incarnate soft cap when using Moment of Glory or Shadow Meld, and then getting enough recharge that they're available with very high uptime.

Any chance of seeing that build Claws? Or is it top secret? I know I've been working on Regen builds for non Sword using some, and on my Martial Arts/Regen in actual play I just wasn't happy with it. Maybe it was the low AOE...but I know I'd like to see it for ideas on how you pulled it all off.

I second this.

Willpower has more passive regen than Regen does. Who thought that was a good idea?

Can we get a fix for Energy Melee instead of more new sets?

I've posted it a few times around here. It hasn't changed much.

I'll try to track it down when I get home from work.

It's not an uber build. It has perma DP, runs a chain of Follow Up-Slash-Focus-Strike, has 32.5% S/L defense, and just over 700% passive regen. It can also chain Follow Up-Spin-Eviscerate gapless if you want an AoE chain.

No purples, no PvP IOs (I could probably softcap S/L if I wanted to acquire the Glad Armor, but I refuse to go to that much effort on a single character)

I just don't post it often because there are usually better builds posted in response to Claws/Regen. But, at the end of the day, *I'M* happy with it, and that's all I really care about.

I've really been thinking about this as, I went all the way through building a SS/FA brute got him fully IO'd out and I just don't like him.

So, I'm back to considering claws/regen scrapper or a claws/willpower scrapper.

My issue at the moment is, since their damage will be the same (relatively), which is more survivable in most situations?

The big advantage to regen is that you have active healing to support your regen and regen plus active healing is great mitigation for any damage type.

On the other hand with willpower you get decent levels of regen, no active healing, respectable resistances, and if you build it correct you can actually soft cap smashing and lethal defense which adds a lot of surviability.

I just don't seem to know enough about regen and it's overall performance to decide which is more desirable overall. I have a SS/WP brute that is rather beastly....I can image claws being quite as powerful too since my Claws/SR scrapper is monstrous as well.
