So that's my build so far but i seem soo far from the softcap that it just doesn't feel like it's the best it can be doing.

I wan't my char to be able to survive x8 mobs, and if possible +4 as well. I also wan't to be able to generate fury real fast so i can do lots of damage quickly and get everything dead before they've got too many attacks through my defenses.

Also with health and stamina, i wanna keep those the same in terms of slotting, i don't mind losing one slot on stamina, but i want health to stay the same =)

Looking forward to all your wise wisdom

Hi, First off let me point out a couple of problems I notice with the build.

The biggest problem I see is that your accuracy on your attacks is pretty low. I know you are probably wanting to rely upon the to-hit buffs from follow up and invincibilty to support your attacks, but the problem with that would be that follow up has to successfully hit to be of any use.

If anything at all I would really consider reslotting follow up more as an attack and not just as a buff. You'll find that your most effective attack chain will be FU -> Slash -> Focus -> Strike. Since you'll be using follow up repeatedly it really does increase your overall dps significantly if you're dealing better damage with FU. Not to mention your overall dps is going to go up more if you're actually landing FU more often and successfully double stacking it, which at that accuracy you'll fail to do so on numerous occasions.

On another note you'll find that to-hit buffs are great, but you get much more out of them when you at least have a little bit of accuracy slotted in those attacks since your added accuracy is calculated by taking your base accuracy and then multiplying it by your to-hit modifier. The higher your base the greater your total is going to be.

I would really mull over this build a bit, because you are really hurting your single target attack chain by only having swipe, follow up, and focus. Swipe, while it does recharge quickly has a significantlly lower base damage and you really aren't going to be able to take advantage of that attacks full recharge rate, because it'll be recharged long before you get through follow up and focus. Strike would be ready by the time you got through follow up and focus and do a heck of a lot more damage.

Another thing is that you're giving up another nice source of single target damage in slash, not too mention the 7.5% defense debuff attached to it and the fact that you can slot a tasty achilles heel proc in it. With your recharge you'd see that -20% resistance debuff on a lot of hard targets like bosses and AVs. It really does provide a signifcant boost in damage.

At your recharge rate you shouldn't have any problem with an AoE chain of FU -> Spin -> Eviscerate. So no issues there. Other than what I already mentioned about FU slotting.

If you were willing to drop unstoppable, which built correctly you really should find that you don't need it as much as you'd think (Though it is certainly personal preference) or maybe drop one of your less important resistance powers like resist elements and pick up just one more attack (I really suggest dropping swipe, picking up strike, and slash) you can use another kinetic combat and easily reach soft cap for S/L resistance.

You could even decide to drop haste, as I have to say your recharge rate is a bit insane for claws. Claws is a very quick set and see much less returns from such a high recharge rate than some of the other sets. If your attacks are recharging before you get to use them again it is pretty much wasted potential. I have around 90% without hasten on my build (Though I'm /SR) and my attacks are always ready when I need them forming a solid attack chain.

That's really the best advice I can give without completely tearing down and rebuilding your set up, which I'm afraid I do not have the time to do at the moment. Play with the build a little bit, claw/invuln can be very very durable when the care is put into it.

Not to nit pick, but didnt want the op to be confused. I think Gospel meant Follow-Up here.

Don't know whether you've checked the market lately, but putting together 5 full set of Kinetic Combat is going to be a non-trivial task. You could drop one set of KC if you replaced 3 of the Imperv Armor sets with Reactive Armor, and get 3.75 E/NE defense as a bonus.

Also, if you are going to underslot one of the resist powers, UY is not a good choice. in addition to the mez & KB protection, it has base 3.75% S/L resistance and 7.5% E/NE/F/C resist, so it has more resists than ResEn and ResEl combined. I'd move the Steadfasts to ResEl instead, and fully slot UY.

In addition, Strike, Slash, Follow Up and Spin are underslotted. Procs are great, but they don't help with accuracy, and don't add damage on a consistent basis. If you switch to Reactive Armor sets as I recommended you can pull the 3 slots in Brawl to use in your attacks. CJ also doesn't need 3 slots, though you should consider putting one of them in Weave instead.

You should consider slotting Eradication in Spin instead of Scirocco's, for both the E/NE and +end bonuses.

Stamina could use another slot, too, since I don't think the PS +end will make up for that degree of underslotting.

Looking at this new build, I think you are improving in areas, however, I concur with Finduilas advice, and offer a bit more of my own.

First, off I would say never put extra slots in brawl. Take Find's advice and remove the impervium armor set from tough and replace it with reactive armor at least if not fully following what Find has already said. You'll find the meger amount of psi resistance and defense are not going to shore up the deficiencies against Psi.

A good rule to remember with procs is that they are great to place in an attack only if you've already reached your damage cap for that attack. Generally your DPS is going to be much higher overall if you have your attacks well slotted for damage rather than erratic spikes and dips in your damage with an underslotted attack with a proc in place.

Find is right about the Kinetic combats being hard to get, but if you stick with it you'll get them. I have 4 sets on my SS/WP right now and it took me a few weeks to get them, but it has been worth it.

With follow up, it is better to fully slot it as an attack, ignoring the chance for build up, for the same reason I mentioned about other procs. Sure getting that extra 40% to-hit and 80% damage is great when it happens, but at a 5% chance you'll not see it as often as you like and you'll see much better gains from it being slotted efficently as an attack.

I've moved around things a bit and think that the changes I made shore up your build a bit adding more accuracy, soft capped S/L with one target on invincibility, raises your overall accuracy by a large margin (You'll be happy with the numbers without follow up and very happy with follow up in effect), I also hedge up your S/L resists to over 70% along with slight increases in every other resist which will be extremely useful. I think you'll find it more useful than the mere 15% psi resistance you had.

All of your attack are now near the damage caps which will great increase your DPS compared to what you had before. I think in general your build has improved a lot and that it'll be much more managable from this point on.

I think you the capped S/L defense, 70% S/L resists and 23-26% in everything else, 43.1 HP regen/sec, and a solid attack chain will make this character pretty survivable. I'm sure there are still things that can be done to tweak this build, but I don't see anymore at the moment.

I'm thinking about 3 Billion at the low end right?

Plus it is the red-side so supply would be a huge issue, a previous poster mentioned that 5 sets of Kinetic Combats/Imperviums might be difficult to come by unless you're buying them yourself with merits.

Might be easier to buy a bunch of LotG +recharges, max out the S/L resist and rely on the offense to "mitigate the damage".

The only real reason his build is costly is the reliance on having those purple sets to make some of his attack worth while with only 4 slots. Other than that it really is only a matter of time to form his build.

It all depends on whether or not he has the patience to avoid the "Got to have it now" fever. I've found imperviums to be pretty ready in supply at a mild cost compared to what funds most people seem to have these days.

The cost on the kinetic combats can be between 30-60 million, but mainly due to low supply as they are level 35 IOs. However, a happy median can be met by buying the more expensive (Merit wise: 200 merit cost) with infamy and meriting the lower costs which are 100-125 merits, if I recall correctly. There may be one that was only 50 merits. I make more than 50 merits during a day of play by running a LGTF and ITF as fast as possible with other teammate. Usually it takes about a hour, sometimes more and sometimes less to run both of them.

His build is managable, though, I tend to build without the reliance of purples and add them later if they'll provide a signifcant increase to the builds efficeny.

Money is not problem for me, not because i have a lot of it, but because i don't mind spending time earning it. I didn't think of using merits though. Is there anything useful i could buy with AE tickets, as doing one arc seems to give you about 250 of them which is mental

I'm liking the build so far as well, appart from the attacks not being 6 slotted which is what i would have liked, but i guess you cant have that without sacrificing a lot of the build. This is one of the reasons i'm not the biggest fan of inv as sometimes i end up having too many slots or too many power choices with other sets, which tbh i quite like.

Honestly, I've gotten nearly all my kinetic combats from AE, by running a few arcs from time to time and using my tickets to roll silver 30-34. I've gotten quite a few nice rolls that way. Another way is to do orbro missions that exempt you to level 35. Your drops will all be in that range and it helps target that drop level.

This is a possible build with these thoughts behind it. Invul, prior to IO's, which is my experience with it, as it was my first brute when CoV went live, is an end hog. It feels like its sucking down beers quicker than a frat boy at a kegger! I did frankenslots to get what I feel is the best bang for the buck. Besides the LotG's, the Numina's and Miracle rares, which I seem to get a lot of from pre nerf AE rolls, so in all it might be a cheapish build. The numbers are not that impressive, but I feel it may be fun regardless. I went with Hover for the extra spot for LotG, and a way to do a Hami raid that wouldn't tick me off.

hmmmm, your pretty clever, i personally wouldn't have thought of that unless i was pointed in the direction =P

Also, Charnage, you build doesn't seem to want to open you sure the coding worked??

I would like to add that, i did an ITF yesterday with my brute. I am lvl 39 and i was Sk'd to 49 for the mission and so all the enemies were 2/3 levels higher than me. I was the only brute on the team and there were no tanks so i was the only player with taunt in their attacks. I spend most of the time facing the ground with my health bar empty. I repeatedly got downed within the second by groups of cimorans, and even with my god mode power (giving me capped S/L res) on i was still balancing on the edge of death.

Is this to be expected in these circumstances or is there something wrong here???

PS: i had one Basic IO for res and def in each power and an acc, end, rech and damage IO in each attack.

Well, you're only 39 fighting level 50+ baddies. I know you are SSKed up but you're still only level 39 so you are missing 4 powers and 18 slots a level 50 would have...not to mention your enchancements might be weaker than what a lvl 50 would have slotted (lvl 35 IOs vs. 50s for example).

To be honest, I've never had a good experience with a sub level 40ish melee character on the ITFs.

Set bonuses dramatically increase your survivability and break your reliance of buffs from the team. What it sounds like is that your team was short on support, despite you being the only brute. Having a Veat, a FF, or a /cold would have drastically increased your survivability. Not to mention a thermal.

Sets will help you when your team doesn't synergize, which is exactly what it sounds like. In this case, I'll blame both the lack of set IOs (if you have the cash now, get some reactives and kinetic combats slotted) and probably moreso, the team.

we had a widow, 1 defenders, 1 corruptor and 2 controllers plus a scrapper and blaster. with the buff set's being 2 kinetics, 1 traps and something else i don't remember. lol

But anyways, my build is pretty lacking right now, and is pretty much the lvl 39 equiv of my first build posted. so pretty shoddy. So i'm guessing i won't be as much of a fail once i've gotten my build in shape =P

thanx for the posts so far btw =)

The team did lack support then. I enjoy playing my kin, but in terms of keeping players alive, it isn't that easy to do. Don't blame your build completely for that team.

Just some points to think about:

-A widow that doesn't have players gather for mind link only adds 5% defense to the team. Somehow I doubt mind link was used.
-Kins have a short-duration +res buff that offers some resistance, but not very much compared to sonic or thermal. The heal is an AoE around the target, so the best way for a kin to heal the alpha tank is to focus fire through them, so the heal typically will be centered around the alpha tank. Even with two kins, two transfusions centered around you should keep you alive.
-Traps for corruptors is lackluster. It has some fun powers, but as a whole for keeping a team alive, it does not perform in the same league as thermal, cold, rad, sonic, trick arrow, or pain/emp. Actually, I think that's all the secondaries.

It might be that I've been on a lot of bad ITF's recently, but it sounds like your team had other issues that didn't help matters. As your support was using more offense-driven powersets, if you aren't built to be self-sustaining, you'll struggle with the lack of support.

Edit: Here's the claws/invuln I was considering. It is softcapped for S/L at two enemies, so it is fairly sturdy. Dull pain is nearly perma, and would be if I wanted to switch out the set for doctored wounds. But I wanted the +hp/regen out of it.

Basics: (calculated with accolades)
-37.9% S/L def w/o invincibility
-3.52 end/sec at 2.5 net end/sec.
-330% regen at 40.5 hp/sec w/o dull pain
-30% global recharge

Just out of curiosity, why give the amount of defense *without* Invinc? The usual standard is one foe in melee range, which is the lowest amount you're likely to have in normal PvE play. After all, there's no reason not to have Invinc on all the time.

Excellent point. It just made it easier to show where the build was. Logically you only need defense when you're fighting something.

Between this thread, and the last episode of Ben 10 Alien Force I saw, I'm gettin some ideas. Time to make an appoplexian!

Willpower has more passive regen than Regen does. Who thought that was a good idea?

Can we get a fix for Energy Melee instead of more new sets?
