Now that I20 is here, I was curious which brute can take the most advantage from the new incarnate slots, in your opinion.
I've heard some say that /ea will rock since it can get more defense debuff resistance (probably not perma though?)
Ive considered rolling up a new brute/scrapper, so of course any advice/info found in this thread may feed my altitis -

Quote:Why no crane kick? With the changes, is it not needed anymore or does it hurt dps?this is the build i'm running on live atm. it can farm +3/x8 very fast even with bosses .
i also take the cardiac alpha end/res .
the forcefeedback proc in the DT is pure win btw.
hope it helps or gives you some new ideas.

@kreegor
Nevermind, just noticed you get those defense numbers by running a unslotted hover. I like free movement with my characters. Can't see me running up to a guy, hitting hover, killing him, turning hover off, repeat. -
Quote:Well, I havent scientifically verified itHow it applies damage is different as well. It does an initial hit of damage then DoT, rather than just DoT (the DoT period doesn't do as much damage to compensate). I prefer the change, though it's good to know how it works: you want at least five targets around you to get hit by that initial tick (unless you're soloing with fewer mobs), as you can't count on them taking as much damage from the DoT if they come in later.
Snake, are you sure about the Scrapper thing? I thought this was possibly because of that weird AI thing where mobs tend to run away if they have a lot of debuffs or DoT on them. I would have liked to know if Castle found anything for certain about that behavior before leaving (or for Black Scorpion or someone to say that there is something up... as it seems like an issue after Castle posting and saying how it's supposed to work).
I have a 50 ss/fire brute, and i dont have runners from burn. I was on a team with a spines/fire scrapper, and he had runners like crazy, so i assumed his burn still had fear. It could of very well been the Spines damage aura though, so sorry that I might of spoke before knowing the facts. -
Is it still true that Fire Melee is stronger on a brute than a scrapper? I thought i read before that fury affects the DOTS, but since fury was 'changed', not sure if the brutes FM pulls ahead still.
-
Thanks all for the continued info. And for the link to the guide. It shed some light on attack chains and some other details with /EA.
The extra damage seems nice, and Ill have to admit that after reading the guide, ive also considered a fire/sr brute, but id miss the enduration management, and gain a ton more of ddr.
Decisions, decisions. I plan on deciding what to make by tonight though. -
Quote:Well its nice to hear from some /ea users that actually like the set. Do you currently use Aid Self on your build? I noticed even slotted up it only heals for just under 40%./EA is a fun set that can be made pretty ridiculously powerful with the right IOs. Because almost any melee secondary can be made pretty ridiculously powerful with the right IOs, I'll just say that I find my /EA brute to be my most fun character. He solos well and teams well. He never runs out of endurance. He can cap his own HP.
I wouldn't go with fire as a melee counterpart for it, though. The early levels would be a misery. WM would be a much better counterpart, for the reasons noted in the post above mine. A primary with mitigation built in helps a ton (mine is SS/EA). -
Well, i talked with a few people in game tonight, and every single one tried to detour me from even thinking about making a /EA character. And all day I have not even seen one.
Should /EA not even be considered? -
So, ive never did fire/ wm/ or /ea and its been at least a day since I rolled an alt, so thought id get your opinion on these builds.
First, does the dmg on fire makeup for its lack of any mitigation (unless killing fast counts as mitigationI've read posts on wm/ea being pretty and strong, but with enough io's, it didn't actually seem that bad in mids. Is it that bad?
Anyway i'll post 2 build, so critique away. Things im worried about in the builds: Endurance usage, overall recharge, enough aoe dmg. With the fire build, not sure if i hurt my dps not taking scorch, and on the WM build, wondering if its bad that I skipped whirling mace (whirling mace seemed to recharge quick enough). Also considered putting a Force Feedback Recharge Proc in Crowd Control and changing one of the melee attacks with Kinetic Combat to even out the #'s.
I havent thought out what alpha's i'll get going for yet. My original builds had maneuvers instead of aid self, so the aid self builds now have lower defense numbers, and a tad less recharge. Is energy drain enough help, or is Aid Self a must?
The builds are a rough draft.

Well, since I made the thread ive got a ss/fire brute up to 50. I went with Energy to help with my end, and have slotted multiple Performance Shifter procs, and the recharge proc in Footstomp. It does really well, since I built it for 37% melee defense, and a purple sets me straight when i need it.
I had asked before about a spines/fire scrapper. I was on a team recently and it was nuts how the enemy was running away from the one I teamed with.
Would Caltrops help with that? Im sure not much, since caltrops does 'afraid' type stuff also. Id love to roll up a spines/fire also, but ugh, the enemies scattering would drive me crazy i think.
Thanks for the all imput I've got so far, much appreciated. -
Quote:I just hit 50 on the hero side with a SS/Fire/Body Brute. I have Conditioning and Phys Perfection and debating if i should go with SS/Fire/Pyre after I get my first Cardiac alpha slotted. Anyone else second that, or maybe suggest a different setup (and alpha) that would be superior?I have a SS/Fire/Pyre, no endurance issues.
I have the +end in stamina and the T2 Cardiac end/resist slotted.
Back before i18, he was a SS/Fire/Mu, after i18 he became a SS/Fire/Body. The two +end procs in Conditioning and Phys Perfection. The Alpha allowed for more damage in build, which I'm quite happy with.
But to answer the question of very best farmer.
Any toon you can stand to play for longer then 3 hours straight doing the same thing. Some builds are just more efficient then others, anything can farm. -
Quote:If you can afford the investment to make it survivable (well, sorta survivable) nothing does more melee AOE damage than a spines/fire scrapper.
Nothing.
It has to be seen to be believed.
And yes, I know exactly how much damage a ss/fire brute does.
While i love the idea of a spines/fire, with 2 damage auras and all, it almost sounds like farming on it all the time and having to chase the mobs would get annoying.
Maybe people use immobilizes with their spines/fire? Not sure if its a necessity in order to keep the farmer sane
Thanks everyone for the input, leaning towards the ss/fire brute, but still up for advice. -
So, I've been gone since March of last year, and have been researching the forums for a while now.
I saw that they removed the fear from burn, but I am unsure if they removed it from all versions including scrappers?
If so, what would guys chose between a spines/fire scrapper, fire/fire scrapper, or a (yes i know this is a scrapper forum) ss/fire brute?
I want the most aoe dmg, for speeding through a 53-54 demon farm, or AE farm. Plus I'll be pl'ing buddies from time to time (which is why i said 53-54. If its just me and im farming drops in PI, ill be doing 0-8man.
Thanks for the advice! -
To minimize the downtime with rage, couldnt WM/Fire be a nice alternative? Crowd Control could be up quite often, has knockdown, and I believe does more dmg than footstomp. Only downside would be positioning yourself for it.
-
Quote:I believe the mob sizes are at least the bare minimum that the ITF requires. ITF requires 6 peeps to start. I dont think even after people quit the itf (i believe 2 have to stay for the ITF not to autodisband), the the mob size will never fall below the 6-man team minimum.Did he solo it set for 8 or set for 2 ? maybe not the large crowds.
Sorry If i made that sound confusion, and I could be wrong, since its late and I should be in bed -
So Iggy soloed the ITF including the av's at the end using no inspirations, no temps, no accolades? Guess I need to see if he has a guide so I can take a look. Thanks for the info so far by the way.

Basically I am interested in rolling up a BS/ or Katana/ and interested in what the best pairing would be for use with Parry/Divine Avalanche.
/Elec seemed interesting, but maybe /Wp would be just as nice if lots of melee or lethal/smashing defense is thrown in from sets. /Invuln of course has good defense when surrounded, lots of hp and a heal, and lots of s/l resist.
I should add I do run the ITF and the Bm farm alot, maybe with a random TF thrown in for good measure.
Which pairing do you guys think would match up the best for these occasions? -
Im hearing alot of stuff on gloom on a fort. I have a ton of recharge, and my longest single target attack takes just 3 seconds to recharge, without hasten running (which is 3ish seconds to perma).
Will i miss out on not having gloom? Im not sure what aoe I would drop to get gloom, maybe psychic scream, but that would leave me with just Psychic Tornada and Dart Burst. -
One more quick question. Would it be stupid to change out TK Blast for Poison dart? I know that Poison Dart offers -regen and has a quicker recharge. I'm sure TK blast is the route to go, but didnt wanna waste any respecs at this point. Thanks
-
Well took the advice given so far. I agree about gloom, but not sure what id drop to get it. Could drop vengeance and the lotg 7.5 in it for glood, and take some extra slots from a couple attacks. I kinda like having the 3 heal procs though, since I dont have aid self. Lots of deicisions to make. Thanks again for the advice so far

Well havent played my Fortunata in forever. I thought id change up its build a bit. I have 50% or so of the build done, but thought i'd get some opinions. Its capped at defense without mindlink (with more than enough on range on purpose), and around 98.8 recharge. I tried to retain some single target, while mantaining 3 aoe's/cones plus Psychic Wail.
I have a couple slots that are easily moved around that are in TK Blast and Dominate (put the self heal procs in it for lack of something better to do in the future).
I'll mostly be doing itf's and sf's with it. I did not dip into the epics for anything, not sure of how much a mistake that is. Have debated about getting a group immobilize ie. Soul Tentacles. and maybe moving around things to get aid self and drop cj (but I love the extra freedom of movement, and I love being capped to defense without mindlink so I can use mindlink to help with getting my defense debuffed). Also thought about dropping vengeance for Assault.
Disregard the levels of some powers ie. Aim, etc. I do lvl 50 stuff 99% of the time. Might reorder things later.
Any pointers ?

Whew. Yea, got worried there for a bit. It's late and i'm like ok did I click on a link i shouldn't have. I just did a check and both have the same IP also. I can log into heroes fine. Must be like you said, they have that heros site so phishing isn't as easy.
Thanks! -
Was browsing the boards and noticed I was in boards.cityofheros.com instead of boards.cityofheroes.com and couldnt log in to post a question.
Is that site legit? Why the different spelling? -
Sometimes if we couldn't get someone to do a Cap SF with us, my buddy would dual boxing with one of his support corrs. I dual boxing now, mostly to pl my lowbies, or trade stuff between toons (which helps me so much, since my buds arent on when i need them
)
But, here is a bad experience I've had with dual boxing:
So my buddy and I were on an ITF. Team of 8. The leader seemed nice, first mission started off fine. I noticed this toon sitting at the door. Leader said don't worry about it.
Next mission, same toon at the door. I mention something, and so does my bud ( why mention something? We had a stoner, and the door sitter was a kin). Leader does a "Lol, why do you care".
Cut to the last mission. Leader admits that thats his alt account, and he had it join just for the merits. And he says he is unable to do both accounts efficiently, which is why its at the door all the time.
Couple of us say that ain't right. Would be different if he stated at the beginning when we joined "This other character is my alt. I'd like to bring him along to doorsit for some easy merits. Is that cool with you? If not, drop now".
Well my buddy and I give him a couple minutes of jabbing comments towards the end of the last mission (was our nature not to let a sleeping dog lie). The leader says he does it all the time, and since he is leader, it doesnt matter what anyone thinks. Mission is almost over, down to the last 20 guys to kill. Bam we are both kicked, with a tell after the mission was over in broadcast that we were "Whiny Bit$$$$, and thats why we got kicked". The team said it wasnt right, but oh well.
Out of years of playing, thats problem my only negative dual boxing experience.
