I heard Dr. Vahzilok can whip up a gamer girlfriend (or boyfriend or some of both) for you in a couple days.
USB ports are extra. -
I think it's a fumble-fingered attempt at "LFT" (looking for team).

Quote:Duly noted, but the likelihood that you will be on every server simultaneously is remote.I hate to break your heart like this.... but I'm on EVERY server.
So it looks like you're screwed.
Ignore away. The Notes feature is also good.
I rarely make use of the /ignore feature, because playing "Will I meet a jackass online?" Russian roulette is one of the few joys left to me. -
Quote:Seriously... I have alts on MANY servers right now. In my opinion anyone that restricts themselves to one server either simply doesn't have enough characters yet.... or is an idiot.
Right, so anyone who doesn't play the game your way (many alts, many servers) is doing it wrong. Now who's being intolerant?
Tell ya what. Let's take advantage of the free transfers and play server tag. Here's how it works - you announce any character transfers you're planning, and I vacate that server as fast as possible. It's a mutually beneficial situation because we both have one less idiot to put up with. -
*Transfers to the green line but realizes he should have gotten on the bus instead.*

Man, there's a lot of bloodlust here. For those desiring graphic violence, I'd recommend firing up one of the Left 4 Dead games or something similar. If you want a goregasm, there are plenty of alternatives to CoX.
Anyway, the really sinister villains would maintain a facade of respectability and work their schemes in the background -
Arbiter Sands, cuz he has cool shades and bops people with a mace.
Having a personality doesn't hurt either. -
Quote:I'm not so sure about this situation. If I initated a fight but bolted when the tide turned against me, my opponent wouldn't have earned the victory unless he could catch me or prevent the escape, in my opinion. Dedicated PvPers more than likely have the means to prevent a target from getting away.1.) The example I cited was a tanker attacking my brute when I came out of a mission in Bloody Bay. We started to fight, I started to win, so he ran away. This strikes me as being a poor sport. He PICKED the fight with me, and then refused to finish it. He's either afraid of losing or a bad sport and just refuses to let anyone else win. Either way, it's bad form. Once you start a fight, you finish it. It's disrespectful to your opponent to tip the board when the game doesn't go your way. Give them their well-earned victory.
NOTE: this applies to people who actively engage in PVP, often as the aggressor, then refuse to play it out unless they receive an easy win, otherwise they're gonna take their ball and go home. AND ONLY THOSE people. If you're not one of them, then I'm not talking to you.
I also think the "retreat if no easy victory" MO is left over from the run 'n' gun days of pre I-13 PvP. -
Here as elsewhere, people have a lot of opinions about subjects they know very little, myself included.
Anyway, look for the silver lining. Even if there are outrageous threads going on about PvP, they might help drum up some interest.
Personal anecdote: I got interested in trying a Kheldian again after reading a flame-fest on the Kheld boards. I haven't rolled one up yet, but I'm prepared to put some effort into building one this time. Sort of an "Oh come on, it can't be THAT bad" response that got me curious. -
Eureka! I had a dumb idea.
Put a zone timer on Bloody Bay and Warburg so that unless you attack another player within a certain amount of time, you get booted from the zone, similar to getting kicked out of an instance after a failed mission. Make the time limit long enough to find an opponent but too short even for a fast character to complete the Shiva Strike or Missile Launch mini-games. You want those temps? Fight for them! Of course, sympathetic members of opposing factions or dual-boxers could "play fight" to game the timer, but they do that anyway to try to farm rep or drops. -
Quote:I think the assumption is that nobody would start a fight without a reasonable expectation that he or she could win.* The aggressor in PvP has the advantage, in my opinion, especially if the the target was unprepared or distracted. Now, we've already established that some people think "I just got ASed, I don't like PVP, and this guy probably has five buddies just lining up to kill me RIGHT NOW. I'm leaving."
You're not thinking of the flip side. Player 2, *by similar experience,* knows this guy might just be leading him into a group of his OWN buddies. Why is he attacking? To get the kill before it becomes a 5v1 blaster/tank/defender-fest and he's outnumbered, slowed, debuffed and the like. Stalkers, depending on set, don't have +perception. They're not VEATs, with their own Leadership powers built into the sets. He doesn't *know* there's not a group that hasn't taken Hyper Stealth (the zone temp power,) an Ill/ troller GI-ing his friends or the like.
*This may be assuming too much. I've seen some boneheadedly suicidal behavior in PvP zones. -
Whoops! My mistake. I have a prior commitment that day and won't be able to make it. My apologies for the error. Hope to see you-all next week.

Quote:True, but getting new meteor shards is less complicated than the rescue/escort/launch routine for gaining Warburg nukes. Probably less hassle to start over at another time for either, though.ALL of them? Wow, that's harsh. If you're defeated in Warburg, you only lose one piece of the launch code.
If I ever managed to defeat someone carrying a meteor chunk or launch code, I'd bolt for the zone entrance ASAP just to make the temp item go "poof," but I'm a spiteful misanthrope who delights in petty cruelty and would slot a "10% chance to kick puppy" proc into all my powers if such things existed. -
Quote:You glow green as long as you have at least one meteor chunk, and if you get defeated by another player, he or she gets all your chunks, so your options are to start over or defeat the person who initially defeated you before he or she completes the Shiva Strike mini game or leaves the zone.I think you glow green when you have one, don't you? So other people know you have one and that they can take it from you if they kill you. Or is that just after you get the codes? I haven't gotten a Shivan in a while.
Mmm... chunks. -
Quote:There are few ways if any that the other players had of knowing your character's relative power level or team size. All the player info window shows in PvP is origin and archetype. Also, the zones auto-exemp everyone to their set levels, so all players con even. If I were in a PvP zone and got surprise attacked by at least one opponent of undetermined strength, I'd retreat in hopes of eluding the rest of the ambush (if any) and giving myself time to assess the situation, even if I felt like fighting back later.I'm asking why, when confronted with a visibly obviously pathetically weak opponent, one no more dangerous to them than a +1 minion (because in both of the examples in the original posting, that is all I was, really, to them), they'd choose that moment to decide that they didn't want to PvP?
-
Also, someone who's solo may not have checked /whoall or may assume most people in a PvP zone are on /hide. Basically, the other players had no reason to conclude you were alone. Faced with an unknown quantity of opponents, retreat is a logical option.
However, I agree that they most likely weren't there to fight in PvP and also weren't interested, so leaving and coming back later make sense. -
I'll grab any pity spots available with Neurodyne 21(?) Mind/Electric dom.

Quote:They're right over there.I've been thinking about this thread over the course of the week and I've decided that I am going to make a character to sit at 35 permanently (or at least until further notice). This character will run TFs and story arcs for merits and AE for tickets.
I usually hoard stuff, but this character will slot what he can use and sell the rest. If enough of us do this, we can reverse this trend and have a viable 35-40 market.
NOW WHO'S WITH ME?!?! -
Quote:The AoE Shockwave powers (Claws and Sonic Attack), Torrent (not Energy Torrent), Hand Clap and others will always knock any targets they hit. The cone targeted AoEs or PBAoES are dandy for positioning baddies on their buttsAoE KB has an obvious and glaring problem: the powers have only a chance to KB, which means some targets will go flying and others will not. The obvious solution is to make the KB always occurr, and the KB users will always have exact and direct control over where they place the baddies

To Jade Dragon: Just to clarify, I was griping about the Kheldian inherent powers, not the ATs themselves, and I certainly wouldn't call them leeches. Also, your point about using the inherents to keep Khelds from being too powerful solo is a good one. I still feel that gaining bonuses based on ATs present is wonky, although it fits with Khelds' metamorphic natures. I know, the Suggestions forum is ---> that way, but at least the Kheld inherents are better than Vigilance.
Also, if you want to get rid of the Kheldian taint, a team that had a Kheld on previously must disband completely. It also won't carry over if you log out and back in. -
There is a mechanic somewhat like that in the game already: pets won't target something that hasn't fully spawned in yet. I've noticed this in the Rikti raids and apocalypse events when enemies are visible and targetable by players but immune to any abilities used on them. In those situations, pets won't target the not-fully-spawned enemies (and it can be handy to aim through them). However, petz r dum and will target phased-out enemies, such as Master Illusionists and those affected by Black Hole, Sonic Cage, etc.
So, it would seem that if there's part of the AI that processes "This thing isn't really here, don't act on it," it might be possible to code something similar into player targeting, although that would sort of defeat the purpose of giving mobs phase-type powers.
Another alternative is to make the phased condition somehow more obvious. I'm partial to having it force the mobs to do the "chicken" emote, but that's just me -
Back to the original topic, what I find frustrating about Khelds, besides the weird keybind issues, is that their inherent powers stink. Not only do they leech from teammates, but the type of bonus they get is AT-specific, which seems to go counter to the current "no AT required" philosophy of CoX.
I'll be interested in what BillZ finds out about altering the inherent, but my suggestion would be to make it ignore AT and instead be ally-based, with buff values adjusted accordingly. That way, the inherents could function like Invincibility or Rise to the Challenge - first ally in range grants the largest benefit, with lesser benefits from other allies.
With regards to PBs, my opinion is that they got hand-me-down powers for the most part. They seem most like a Radiation Blast/Energy Manipulation blaster. Warshades at least got some unique abilities. To those that enjoy Khelds, more power to you. -
I've heard WP called "easy mode" fairly often, too. It's powerful and versatile, and the
"new kid" has lots of tricks the established defensive sets don't. Jealousy, maybe?
