The thing that amaze me though, the 'badly against' server merge people. Put it simple, if NC decide to do so, it will be done. Better to keep it in mind, accepting the posibility it can happen. Sure, a few will have a name issue, sadly nothing to do about it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

On the issue of server mergers, there are no plans to do so at the current time. Should that ever change, you will receive plenty of notice. There are quite large technical hurdles that would need to be resolved before anything of this sort were to occur.
  2. In most development situations with a diverse range of disciplines - such as games development - you will frequently find that a member or two of staff are left waiting for someone else to complete required work before they can move on. This leaves them time to work on other, non-required, tasks ... such as, for example, producing materials for the booster packs.

I can say that almost certainly the booster pack development has negligible impact on development of new issues. Rather, they are the product of efficient use of 'downtime' periods in work schedules.

I have the latest drivers for my laptop and the graphics chip and my laptop has over 2gb ram and even though it has intergrated graphics it can run every game I have tried so far from world of warcraft to warhammer online tabula rosa etc...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Intel based integrated graphics? If so, unfortunately that could be a possible cause. In particular older Intel based graphics were difficult to work with and can often cause unusual problems, frequently specific to a particular model number or laptop configuration.

    Lag :O

    (QR)

Firstly: whilst posting in the forums notifies myself (and therefore the team here) that there is a possible issue, threads in the forums are pretty much useless when it comes to actually tracing the issue, verifying the cause, and then finding a resolution. If you have not yet sent a petition, please do so. Before doing so, you may wish to work through a series of troubleshooting steps available in our Knowledge Base, starting with this article and working through the linked steps. If you are asked to run the Network Information Tool, please do so when you are experiencing the lag to give us the best results.

Secondly, and in direct response to the "they just say it's a problem at our end" allegation: The last time I saw this claimed I reviewed the response that is normally sent back when we are able to verify that the lag is not within our network. The belief that we were blaming a customer's PC or direct internet connection was caused by a poorly structured and long sentence that was only being half read or incorrectly interpreted. The response, when read in full and correct context, stated that the root cause of the problem was outside of our network and therefore outside of our direct control to remedy. In these cases we advise the customer to also contact their ISP (this is where much of the misunderstanding arises), as in some cases this can increase the chances of the issue being resolved. It is worth noting that if an issue resides with an intermediary ISP between our servers and your ISP, that your ISP is in some cases more likely than we are to be able to put pressure to bear for a resolution.

    The Future

The OP skims very close to "ranting" in places, however I'm going to leave the thread for the time being. I will just quickly comment on the one thing that Tuarus (and other he mentions) have repeatedly discussed on these forums:

Server populations have been trending upwards since Issue 13 release. There are no current plans for any server mergers and we're looking forward to Issue 14 and the rest of the year.

To be fair, you can't expect an EU user to know when the US have their maintenance window...

    [/ QUOTE ]

True, which is why I just updated this: http://uk.boards.cityofheroes.com/sh...;Number=624010
  7. Correct me if I'm wrong, but your report of Wentworth's downtime coincides with the North American server maintenance window. All Auction servers are located in the US, hence when the US has maintenance the Auction Houses will be unavailable for a short period.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
It seems fairly clear to me that CoH EU is no longer pulling in enough money to justify 2 full time forum mods, so they've re-tasked one of them to a more profitable game to justify his wages; which is good for Palladium, as it means his job doesn't vanish, but it's not exactly a good sign for us, is it?

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's far more accurate to say that Palladium is the most knowledgable person over here when it comes to L2, and when the position came available he snapped it up. It's a fantastic opportunity for him and it really shouldn't be read as an abandonment of the FR community at all.

The new year is looking very good for CoH. We've seen an upswing in server populations, and the Mac launch has gone very smoothly.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
You could play your account on a CoH-Mac client without buying the pack, but I believe buying the pack gives you access to the client download to install on that Mac, so yes.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No need to buy anything. If you have an account already and want to play on Mac you can simply download the Mac client from ftp://client.coh.com/EU/

Buying the Mac Special Edition will grant you the goodies, and is of course what any new customer should be looking towards.

Very good and for the first time I was part of a group that took down the Winter Lord.

    Pffft. I solo'd one!

Okay, yeah, he smeared me all down the street and then laughed at my sticky remains; but I still solo'd one! I didn't say I BEAT it!

Sounds more like it soloed you
  11. Thanks Asmer,

The folks over at NCNC are looking into this. It's affected a few people depending on when and how they installed the open beta client originally.

There's a thread on the North American forums that you may wish to keep an eye on: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showf...umber=12897870

Like comparing apples and oranges, I'm afraid.

GR, that was the most AWFUL pun I've heard this year...

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Oh dear ... I hadn't noticed.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
with the new add mac addition it don't seem that hard to add stuff to the store

    [/ QUOTE ]

Like comparing apples and oranges, I'm afraid. The account options purchasable through the in-game store function differently than those that are bought via the PlayNC store, so there are technical reasons for the separation that exists currently.

I will take your feedback and see if there is anything we can do to improve the situation for those who prefer to use Maestro.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
Silly question here, but since the Mac client is apparently now available to buy on the PlayNC store, does this mean that the Mac client is available to play on the Live servers?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yup. Full announcements coming to a website and forum near you soon

    XP exploit

Thanks for you post, however we do ask that exploits are not posted to the public forums. If you have information about a potential exploit, please send it to our support team using /petition or the website support interface.

    Thanks.

I'm possbily getting a mac... but I'll want to use the same account on both platforms.

Will the client recognise the hardware platform automatically?

    [/ QUOTE ]

There's a Mac client install file available at ftp://client.coh.com/EU/ that you will need to install on the Mac. Once you're installed, however, you can use the same account you currently use.
  17. GhostRaptor_EU

    falied to rename

You should be able to fix this problem by deleting all CohUpdater.EU.??? files, and then downloading a fresh copy of CohUpdater.EU.exe from here: ftp://client.coh.com/EU/

Pleace it in the same folder you deleted the existing one from.

    Howdy
Zonealarm informed me that cohupdater.eu.exe has changed since the last time it was run. While the exe changes a lot, I've never seen the actual updater change once. Is this fishy?

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Could be down to this:

    [ QUOTE ]
    Ex Libris:
The game client is the same so there is no need to download from the FTP. The updater has been replaced with a version that will read whether your account is operating from a MAC or PC and will adjust for that.

    Yup.
  19. When the Macintosh version of City of Heroes is available, players who participated in the Macintosh Open Beta can convert their Open Beta client to a Live Client using a conversion tool.

This will grant your City of Heroes client access to the Live Servers, instead of the Open Beta Server, and will save you hours of download time.

    [u]INSTRUCTIONS:[u]
    1. Go to ftp://client.coh.com/Test/EU
    2. Download "MAC_Open_Beta_Convertor_To_Live_Tool_EU.tgz" to your desktop
    3. Click on the file to unpack the Conversion tool
    4. A new program icon called "EUTrainingRoom-Update-002060" is created onto your desktop
    5. Click on "EUTrainingRoom-Update-002060" to run the application
    6. A warning message may appear. If so, click on "Open" to open the application
    7. A window will open up and will prompt you to find and select your City of Heroes Open Beta client
    8. Go to your Applications Folder and select the "City of Heroes" Open Beta Application icon, and
    9. Click the "Update" button.

Your City of Heroes Open Beta client will then be converted to a Live City of Heroes client.

Please note that any characters that you created on the Open Beta Server will not be transferred to or accessible on the Live Servers. Additionally, this Conversion Tool will only work on the Open Beta application, and not on the Closed Beta application.

If you wish to keep your Training Room client, make sure to create a copy of your Open Beta application before running the conversion tool.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
Doubt it's a sequal not with the Mac version still in Beta.

It'd be pointless to be developing both.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Can't comment on any of the speculation, however you should recall that the Mac project has actually been in partnership with Transgaming and the impact on NCNC's ongoing work, of any sort, is minimal.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
Ummm... for the sake of clarity, could we have a bit of further explanation of the month? October, November or December?

    [/ QUOTE ]

If in doubt, always go with what's in bold. I never forget to update that bit, since it's obvious. Fixed the OP.

    [ QUOTE ]
Also is this a single creative genius spanning a 2 month period or do we make nominations for November AND December?

    [/ QUOTE ]

There will be two winners announced, one for Nov and one for Dec. Given Nov was such a busy month there will likely be a few consolation prizes handed out as well. Everyone is welcome to nominate twice, being once for each month.
  22. Welcome to the nominations for November & December Creative Genius!

Please use this thread to nominate submissions for the Creative Genius award for the period of November and December 2008.

Please be sure to familiarise yourself with the guidelines for the Creative board and the Creative Genius competition before making any nominations - you can read them here.

These nominations will remain open until 6pm GMT on Friday, January 30th. Two winners will be announced on or before Friday, February 6th.

To nominate a submission, please post a link to the appropriate post.

There are some important rules to bear in mind when making nominations:
<ul type="square">[*]You may only nominate one submission. If you nominate more than one submission, only the first one will count.[*]Only one nomination for each submission will count.[*]You may not nominate your own submissions.[*]All original submissions first posted to these boards in the period noted above are eligible for nomination, regardless of what form they take.[*]Only nominated submissions will be considered for the Creative Genius award.[*]If no nominations are received, there will be no Creative Genius award for the period noted above.[*]If you have any comments, questions or suggestions, please post them to The Creative Board and Creative Genius. This thread should only be used for nominations, and any off-topic posts will be removed.[/list]
    Happy nominating!

Bonus Prize: I'm going to throw in a PPD Hardsuit Costume code for this month's winner (and the next few most likely).
  23. [ QUOTE ]
Could be the extra character slots aren't counted as part as the vet reward system, conceptually at least.

As the vet rewards all give in-game features/abilities, and the extra slots are entirely pre-game, I guess that would make sense.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Bingo (I think). Although, having said that, it probably should be listed somewhere on the site...
  24. (Shamelessly stolen from Ex Libris on the US forums)

Please try applying the Microsoft hotfix located here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953186

Please click the "View and request hotfix downloads" link at the very top of the page, and follow the instructions Microsoft provides.

    SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario. You are running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 on a computer that has multi-core processors. A driver on the computer calls the MmProbeAndLockPages routine asynchronously. In this scenario, data corruption may occur.
    *
This problem occurs randomly. It typically occurs when the following conditions are true:
    *
    * The computer has some graphics processing devices installed.
    * You are running a graphics-intensive application.
    *
When this problem occurs, the system or the application may crash. The actual symptoms vary, depending on the specific drivers that are installed on the computer.

  25. We've already got threads in technical about this issue, let's not spread any discussion over multiple threads and forums: it doesn't help.

Please remember that we've just come back from Christmas and New Year holidays, and that as with any bug it can take time to track down the root cause. Especially in a case such as this where there does not appear to be a reliable, 100% method to reproduce the issue. Intermittent bugs (even if 'obvious' to the user) can be difficult to track down.
