Lag :O
Lag is sort of becoming accepted now since it's so common in CoX. Seriously, they say it's a problem in our end all the time, when lots of the time it's actually a server problem.
Maybe they should host the servers in France, so instead of having massive lag over here in the UK, the UK has a non-laggy gameplay, the French players have a almost perfect non-laggy gameplay, and the Germans have the same as UK.
Of course this might annoy a bit the Aussie/New Zelanders/Americans, but I've never seen them really report bad lag.
I know, switched to my MM now so I don't have to deal with it *pets seem to be functioning fine regardless of lag*
It's more frequent and lengthy than ever before to me. So there must have been *a* change (not going to say i13, despite it's many new "features") that's causing. I'm looking to see if GR himself will make an appearance, hoping he'd know something about it
Without regurgitating the usual "connection between UK and mainland Europe is naff, has to go through lots of routers between here and there, so more possibility for failure" stuff, which whilst perfectly valid doesn't make things any less frustrating, it did seem tonight that instanced missions were where the problems lay.
Solo combat "outside" - no problem. Team combat on an instanced map - lag city.

I have also found that my mission instances feature a lot of lag. Usually power activation lag, I don't notice a problem otherwise, it's just that one second pause trying to activate powers.

I'm lagging tons tonight. Dunno why. Might be my end though.
If they say the problem is our end, then I would assume it's not our internet their talking about, but our client versions that are mucking around.
On the other side of things, I hope GR does give this one a read and can give us a decent response, even if it's "We know about and are trying to fix it."
Yea tonight became unplayable for me because the lag was so bad

Yup this precisely. KoB would charge, I'd click it and nothing happens. My character would even cross his arms in that "idle posing in Atlas" stylee waiting for the thing to fire!

No lag here.
Thelonious Monk
No lag tonight for me either.
Since i resubbed I have had instanced mission lag ranging from minor to extreme.
Nothings changed on my end from last year. Same install, same pc and same net.
Also since I let my sub run out I have tried a lot of other MMOs. Say 10+ and not had lag like this in any of them.
Yeah same here. I especially hate that power activation thing. I left the game some months ago because of that lag. Luckily it is only in missions now, not on everywhere like last time.
With that current state i don't know how will it be on Double XP weekend, won't be better i guess.

Firstly: whilst posting in the forums notifies myself (and therefore the team here) that there is a possible issue, threads in the forums are pretty much useless when it comes to actually tracing the issue, verifying the cause, and then finding a resolution. If you have not yet sent a petition, please do so. Before doing so, you may wish to work through a series of troubleshooting steps available in our Knowledge Base, starting with this article and working through the linked steps. If you are asked to run the Network Information Tool, please do so when you are experiencing the lag to give us the best results.
Secondly, and in direct response to the "they just say it's a problem at our end" allegation: The last time I saw this claimed I reviewed the response that is normally sent back when we are able to verify that the lag is not within our network. The belief that we were blaming a customer's PC or direct internet connection was caused by a poorly structured and long sentence that was only being half read or incorrectly interpreted. The response, when read in full and correct context, stated that the root cause of the problem was outside of our network and therefore outside of our direct control to remedy. In these cases we advise the customer to also contact their ISP (this is where much of the misunderstanding arises), as in some cases this can increase the chances of the issue being resolved. It is worth noting that if an issue resides with an intermediary ISP between our servers and your ISP, that your ISP is in some cases more likely than we are to be able to put pressure to bear for a resolution.
Might be worth a brief mention of the ISP that lagged people are using - not for blaming the ISP, the problem could be on the network somewhere and if there's a common ISP it may be easier to locate. Personally I've had no lag problems at all for ages.
I confess I havent bugged any situations but will beginning tonight.
In general there has been perceptibly more lag issues in gameplay since the beginning of January for me, this has been most noticeble in power activation delays and very slow updates in changes to enemy HP during missions.
Why only this game?
In the past 4 weeks I have played WAR,WOW,Perfect World,Runes Of Magic,SWG,EVE and others i cant remember.
Apart from runes which is in beta the others were fine. No lag to speak of beyond the odd spike in overly populated areas in a couple of games.
How many UK users are suffering from lag?

I would suspect this is because most of those games have servers based outside Germany. The route between the UK and Germany is known to be bad.

Couple of points GR..
The KB article that you link to includes this:
[ QUOTE ]
While many people use a home router with their Internet connection, they can occasionally cause problems. As a temporary troubleshooting step, try removing your router and connecting directly to your modem with an Ethernet cable. Verify that you are able to browse to a website and then attempt to play the game. If you cannot browse to a website, please reboot your modem by unplugging the power cable. After that is done, reboot your computer, then try again.
I still have lag when I remove the router.
I do not have lag if I remove the router.
[/ QUOTE ]
Many people, myself included do not have a modem that links through a router, but the connection goes straight through the router. The trouble shooting steps might be more helpful if this consideration were included.
Secondly, is it possible to provide a link to a tool that will allow us to test the connection and identify where the possible problem might be when it happens rather than petitioning NC, getting a reply 24 hours after the event and finding all is fine and dandy? Perhaps even an IP address we can point tracert at?
Thirdly, if we report the problem to the ISP I would imagine my experience will be similar to that of most peoples and will go thusly:
Me: "I'm experiencing lag on a computer game I play"
ISP: "Do you have problems browsing web pages?"
Me: "No."
ISP: "Do you have problems or lag playing any other games?"
Me: "No"
ISP: "The problem is with the game provider then, speak to them"
And that's where the frustration lies. You're telling us to speak to our ISP, our ISP will tell us to speak to you, meanwhile the problem doesn't get solved. Don't get me wrong, I fully appreciate the number of routers between the average UK home and the servers in Germany means that there is a greater chance of failure, or weak point along all those hops, but these forums help us to find other people experiencing the same issue and whether or not it's something local or more universal.

More problems last night which i did bug, I think the advantage of posting here is to get a snapshot of how many people are experiencing the same problem....if it just ends up being me the chances are its a local problem but if many are posting then the chances are higher that its server side......tbh I have never bugged lag before usually I just back off a while and its gone the next time but this is a more regular occurence atm.
I havent had lag in the past 2 years.. this week I havent been able to zone without typing /synch... not once. And a huge lag...
Nothing has changed on my side... There is something going on...
- The Italian Job: The Godfather Returns #1151
Beginner - Encounter a renewed age for the Mook and the Family when Emile Marcone escapes from the Zig!
- Along Came a... Bug!? #528482
Average - A new race of aliens arrives on Earth. And Vanguard has you investigate them!
- The Court of the Blood Countess: The Rise of the Blood Countess #3805
Advanced - Go back in time and witness the birth of a vampire. Follow her to key moments in her life in order to stop her! A story of intrigue, drama and horror! Blood & Violence... not recommend to solo!
Lag almost whenever I mission now, seriously bad response time. There must be something up. And it's only at particular times, although for LONG periods of time. It's not just me either who's experienced this, other people in team and in the SG have had it aswell, so....
Hay Ghost Raptor, what's going on bubs?
