Purchasing MAC CoX

Before I go and spend a tenner on something that won't work...

If I purchase the MAC CoX from the online store, can I 'upgrade' my current account, so that I can use my existing account on my friend's MAC?

Or does the 'mac' version not 'apply' to your existing account?

You could play your account on a CoH-Mac client without buying the pack, but I believe buying the pack gives you access to the client download to install on that Mac, so yes.

[/ QUOTE ]

No need to buy anything. If you have an account already and want to play on Mac you can simply download the Mac client from ftp://client.coh.com/EU/

Buying the Mac Special Edition will grant you the goodies, and is of course what any new customer should be looking towards.

Even better! I thought there might have been some Cedega thing that meant you had to purchase the game rather than offering the client as a free download. But hey, if you do buy the game you get a month of free time and the bonuses too!

I got the code anyway. £9.99 for a month's sub and some extras? Sounds like a bargain to me. And the Valkyrie set is beautiful. THIS is why CoH is better than WoW - our Fantasy Costumes are better

Valkyrie themed is very beautiful... but is many expensive.

You do know that the Valkyrie Pack will get a separate (and cheaper) release from the Mac Edition within a few months, right?

That and the Mac SE does include a month's playing time and all.

Hehe, I seriously doubt that it will be cheaper than it already is when factoring in the free month you already mentioned.
Standard fee for a month of playtime is €12.99, the Mac Special Edition comes at €14.99, so that leaves modest €2.00 for costume pieces and mission teleporter.
Considering the standard price for bonus packs without extra playtime is €8.99 I think the Mac SE is an excellent deal for anyone who wants the bonus content.

If it has
eyes, you can blind it, if it has blood, you can make it bleed, if it has a mouth, you can make it scream.

sure, excellent price for MAC users only.
Why Valkyrie Pack separate €8.99 not is aviable?

It's not for MAC users only. As has been said frequently, you can by it and apply it to your regular account, getting the goodies and a free month.

You don't need the MAC version to play on a MAC, you don't need the PC version to play on a PC.

I really should do something about this signature.

Let me put everything in clear terms, without ambiguity. You can buy the Mac Edition of the game and upgrade your existing account with it. This will grant your current account and characters the Valkyrie costume set, which is extremely well made, and the mission teleporter. You will also have one month of game time along with this.

If you pay monthly with a credit card (or however often) your charge will be deferred by a month, as you have an extra month of time from the Mac Edition. You will not be charged for a month of time until your current month is finished, and the month given from the Mac Edition is finished. NCSoft won't take any more money until your paid-for time from the Mac Edition is up. I know this to be true because I have done just that.

You do not need a Mac to play the Mac Edition. What you pay for with City of Heroes is the account. You pay for the right to play the game on their servers. Platform is irrelevant. It is perfectly legal to download and install CoH on as many PCs as you like. NCSoft offer the game for download, Mac or PC, even if you don't own an account. If you are a PC user you can buy the Mac Edition if you like, and if you are a Mac user you don't need to buy the Mac Edition if you just want the game by itself.

Think of the Mac Edition as a time card, granting you one month of play, bundled with the Valkyrie bits. It suddenly looks like very good value.

The real reason that the pack is called the Mac Edition at all is so that it can be put in boxes and sold in shops. The software that comes in the Mac Edition box is indeed designed for a Mac, but NCSoft allow everyone - subscribers and non-subscribers - to download both PC and Mac versions free of charge. Both Mac and PC versions of the software connect to the same servers and give you the same game.

Someone mentioned Cedega earlier on, and I can assure you that this is indeed a full port to the Mac. Transgaming are rather good at that.

It was released as download only so I doubt if there's a boxed version coming out soon.

Which would be silly. Get Mac Boxes out, send to Apple Stores.

[/ QUOTE ]

Agreed. Mac users have precious few retail games they CAN play, and one of them is WoW, which has a Mac box. NC *need* to get CoH for Mac in boxes, and in the Apple stores.

Technically FFM, like most Blizz games, it's one box that has the Mac Installer and PC installer on, and utilizes the same files from the MPQs.

... Could be an excuse for a brand new retail box, with Mac and PC installers, updated to issue 13
