Open Beta Client to Live Client Conversion Tool

When the Macintosh version of City of Heroes is available, players who participated in the Macintosh Open Beta can convert their Open Beta client to a Live Client using a conversion tool.

This will grant your City of Heroes client access to the Live Servers, instead of the Open Beta Server, and will save you hours of download time.

[u]INSTRUCTIONS:[u]

  1. Go to ftp://client.coh.com/Test/EU
  2. Download "MAC_Open_Beta_Convertor_To_Live_Tool_EU.tgz" to your desktop
  3. Click on the file to unpack the Conversion tool
  4. A new program icon called "EUTrainingRoom-Update-002060" is created onto your desktop
  5. Click on "EUTrainingRoom-Update-002060" to run the application
  6. A warning message may appear. If so, click on "Open" to open the application
  7. A window will open up and will prompt you to find and select your City of Heroes Open Beta client
  8. Go to your Applications Folder and select the "City of Heroes" Open Beta Application icon, and
  9. Click the "Update" button.

Your City of Heroes Open Beta client will then be converted to a Live City of Heroes client.

Please note that any characters that you created on the Open Beta Server will not be transferred to or accessible on the Live Servers. Additionally, this Conversion Tool will only work on the Open Beta application, and not on the Closed Beta application.

If you wish to keep your Training Room client, make sure to create a copy of your Open Beta application before running the conversion tool.

I'm possbily getting a mac... but I'll want to use the same account on both platforms.

Will the client recognise the hardware platform automatically?

There's a Mac client install file available at ftp://client.coh.com/EU/ that you will need to install on the Mac. Once you're installed, however, you can use the same account you currently use.

Silly question here, but since the Mac client is apparently now available to buy on the PlayNC store, does this mean that the Mac client is available to play on the Live servers?

Hi there,

I tried to use the conversion tool, but it doesn't work, I followed all the steps but when I Click "Update" button it says: "Can't Install the patch on this file" Reinstall (I read the message in spanish, so the translation may be different form the english one).

So my next logical step is download the full installer and start from the beginning, or maybe is there any other way to apply this patch.

Thx for porting the CoX to MAC.

Thanks Asmer,

The folks over at NCNC are looking into this. It's affected a few people depending on when and how they installed the open beta client originally.

There's a thread on the North American forums that you may wish to keep an eye on: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showf...umber=12897870

Would the Mac client be a better option to run under Linux than than the windows client through Wine/Cedega?

And I'm assuming I don't actually need to buy a Mac box to use a windows account on a mac?
