    Base wish list

More salvaged from the other thread:

    [ QUOTE ]
    From Mac_Scarf:

[/ QUOTE ]Oh where to start?

    1) Hospital beds that don't come with restraints
    2) Gym equipment
    3) More textures for the walls and floors etc ( talking of the tech/magic bridge in the suggestion mentioned above wouldn't it be nice to have a bridge over something like water)

That's three without even thinking ..... there's more much much more .....
    4) cobwebs for the arcane and sewer style bases for example?

    White Bear

    5) Tech wall panels so i can finally have that lab looking like a ..... lab and not a room with a collection of box's in it.

    They just keep coming!

    6) An actual way in to the sg that dosn't look like an old startrek teleporter.... how about a door?

    Going now
  2. I've opened up a thread in the suggestions boards where, let's be honest, these things belong.
    It's this thread here.

    Base wish list

As started in the base section by This thread
A list of things that would improve bases, and/or base functionality.

    PvE base raids...?

    [ QUOTE ]
    The CoP Trial working.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    And my list under that:
    [ QUOTE ]
[*]Flagging the base for PvE invasions?
[*]More 'house hold' decorative items. (for god's sake, a normal bed...)
[*]Tighter fitting boxes around the items.
    [*]Better stacking ability on objects.
[*]More lenient rules for obstructing 'auxiliaries' (heck, even for primairies would be great )

    [/ QUOTE ]
[*]Flagging the base for PvE invasions?
    Discussed in this thread
[*]More 'house hold' decorative items. (for god's sake, a normal bed...)

As it says... more things to be able to make a 'home'. Whether the SG base is a stately manor, some one's mom's garage/basement or a high tech lab/base with a living area. It would be nice to be able to make a homely feel in a base without fudging 60% of the things.

[*]Tighter fitting boxes around the items.

Just as an example.. try and put counters against the wall,
    in a corner...
    and make it look good...
it's just not possible at present.

    [*]Better stacking ability on objects.

Maybe I want to stack 2 shelves high, maybe I want to put one counter on top of the other...
Shelves can't stack and the counters have a larger 'base' size then the 'stackable' size.

[*]More lenient rules for obstructing 'auxiliaries' (heck, even for primairies would be great )

I realise it can be needed for base raids, but the "could not place because it obstructs a raidable object" is darned annoying when trying to make a base look good as well as functional.
  4. Flagging the base for PvE invasions?

  5. indeed... the editer is extreemly fussy about the doorway... both in where IT wants it to be and the SPACE in the ajoining room it needs

IT wants to place the door way in point X, it can't be put there because of decorations or what ever in te ajoining room. Next to it, would be a valid doorway location as it was cleared for such... but noooo... point X is the only possible point when placing a room... after that you can relocate it to next to is, but not when placing.

Once a doorway has been placed, you can 'block' it up to a point, which gives some liberties. BUT! If you remove the room, and try to place it again... you won't be able to until you clear the area a whole lot more.

*sigh* it's fun fiddling with bases, just a shame we have such a crude system for it.

    My Character Art

    Very nice, as said!

Just one thing.. her bottom, it seems ... misshaped to me, if slightly...

    oh and for links
    <font class="small">Code:[/color]<hr /><pre>Displayed text here</pre><hr />
  7. Aaah good. My character has various 'transport buffers' in which she stores items and weapons (Yes, ripped from the Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force games) but she'll leave the tank at home
  8. I do hope there will be some secure storage for your guests to deposit their weapons
    And that they are sizable
  9. What makes some one an elitist?
I think it's lack of things...
    Respect
    Understanding
    Patience
    Tolerance

Any of the above can trigger (moments of) elitisms...

Respect, hardest to explain... Respect is given, earned, or broken.... hmm.. not sure what I want to say with this.. moving on.

Understanding, for other people's needs/desires/skill. Mostly the skill. Understanding that everyone has to start somewhere. Understanding that you too made yor first steps in to ... what ever you're elitist about. That you too made mistakes, that some might make more then you, some might make less.

Patience, if you lack patience you're not going to bother with new people, simple as that. If you lack patience, you will make little to no effort to constructively improve the other's skill.

Tolerance, how much BS can you tolerate?

Personally, I think the first two are cause for more 'long term' elitism, while the latter two are more cause for 'momentary' elitism.
  10. [ QUOTE ]
Roleplaying a bad&lt;bleep&gt; villain is perfectly fine
    .
If you think about it; hearing about all sorts of nasty crimes in Pocket D is a measure in frustration, especially for heroes. Their IC morals would require them to do something, but they simply CAN'T. So on a general basis, be as evil as you want; BUT people won't appreciate hearing about it being just randomly bandied about.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I remember an undead 'gentleman' in the challet that liked to get in the face of heroes (how he knew they were heroes, I'll never know) and be rather obnoctious, quite concious about his own decaying smell.

There were 4 types of reactions:
    a) OOC/IC ignoring, completly not responding.
    b) IC ignoring, my mage cast a 'can't hear, can't smell' spell on herself conserning the corpse.
    c) Annoyance
    d) Diversionairy flirting. After him getting in the face of a friend of one of the scantidly clad heroes (said friend has a sensitive nose), she occupied his time away from the friend with flirting, dangling a line or some such.

And then there were the other villains after 'he' relaxed his entertainment. When he got along nicely... why? If he likes to get in the face of heroes and be obnoxious, why not villains?

    Any way...
Over the top evil? Sure go ahead...
Expect some nice RPing instead of being ignored? I doubt it for both OOC "Oh god an other loon" and IC "Can't do anything, why bother" reasons.

For instance, one of my characters witnessed some rather harsh threathening going on in PD. It were characters of 2 friends of mine, and the threatener thought my character would come back after talking with the victim to tell her off... Why bother? Words didn't look like they'd help with anything, at least when threatening, the character was being nice and frank about what she was, rather then be a serial killer with a nice public mask.

addendum: The can't think of any reason anyone would talk to some one who's being over the top evil...
  11. Increase Plot Size ... does just that.
It increases the size of your plot, for the price listed.

You get to select how the plot is being increased... or should I say... how the original plot/layout fits in the increased size.

What you have stays. The cost listed is the total sum for just increasing the size.
  12. Fine with me

Just thought it'd be interesting to hear YOUR views, as a player of the game.
Whether YOU think this is an RPG game...
Whether this is a game designed to RP in...
Whether it's a game where we RP despite of the game...

Note: this isn't just at ECHO but a question for everyone.

But if you'd rather be sheep...
  13. What makes an RPG?

Is it the building of a character, the skills, powers, equipment and such?
    Then yes, it's an RPG.

Is it interaction choice that makes an RPG?
Then... personally, I wouldn't class this as an RPG.

    It's all about definition...

.... or am I mixing up my English use of such things?
  15. [ QUOTE ]

Sadly it's something we must learn to live with. In RL I've met the same attitude. I've been roleplaying since I was 9 (I'm 34 today) and I still meet people that think I'm crazy, childish, nerdy or just plain stupid for roleplaying and would go out of their way to point it out to me and "correct my erroneous ways".

    [/ QUOTE ]
I wonder if they like movies, or a play.. a video clip... have a favourite actor..
Or if they think actors are 'crazy' too

    Base Questions

    [ QUOTE ]
I have just started building my base which is on an 8x8 plot. I have some questions which I may already know the answer too, but need clarification rather han anything else.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Okay, let's see what we can do!

    [ QUOTE ]
    1. I have a basic teleport bay, 1x2 plot. I have placed a teleporter on here, but it only allows me to place 1 beacon (I have atleast 6 to choose from at the moment). I have plenty of control and power, but still can only place 1 beacon. How can I get round this?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I assume you mean the basic 1x2 teleport room that's part of the "starter's kit"?
If so, the teleporter itself allows for 2 beacons.
The room how ever limits you to 1 teleporter and 1 auxilary (like a beacon)

    [ QUOTE ]
    2. I can only currently have 1 power terminal. Can I add more to this plot...or do I need to upgrade the plot or build more?

    [/ QUOTE ]
The smallest plot allows for only 1 power generator, and iirc onlt 1 control generator (the main units, not counting auxilaries, nor the starter's combo unit)

    [ QUOTE ]
    3. Is it possible to have 4/8 teleport locations in an 8x8 plot? If so, does each teleport bay need to be 2x2 minimum?

    [/ QUOTE ]
the 2x2 rooms allow for 2 teleport pads and 4 beacons each.
In my basic plot base I have 4 such rooms, which means 8 pads and 16 locations.
At least I will once I actually place the teleport pads.

    [ QUOTE ]
These questions are only in theory at moment, as I don't have enough prestige to place 4 teleporters yet, anyway!

    [/ QUOTE ]
Planning is half the work, right?
... or was that half the fun? Ah well, either way... planning=good

    [ QUOTE ]
I think my limitations are due to plot size. Unless the beacons that are placed into each teleporter have to be linked in some way?

    [/ QUOTE ]
With the teleporters, you are limited by the rooms, control and power more then the plot.

My base has the normal energy generator, the control generator with the 4 auxilairies to provide the needs.

I also have a medical bay and a workshop. All the 2x2 rooms.

    Base Downsizing

I have not tried this (not having gotten past the first plot) so I can't be sure of how this exactly works.

    But!

The prestige difference will be returned to the SG, much like selling a room.

If I were you, I would design the base according to the smallest plot specs. That way, you 'should' have the minimal fuzz and least chance of things going bonkers.
  18. Or...

Just state the things that happened, and forget about the explinations (for now?) so you won't get lost in the structure and explaining

Often enough, I start typing and try to keep it short, and two hours later, the post is up involving more then I originally thought.

    Random base kick

    [ QUOTE ]
The ultimate [censored] off for me is when iv spent 20 mins editing the base, then getting randomly kicked from base to find my last 20 min s of base fiddling unsaved and having to start again.
    .
Before someone pipes up with telling me to exit and re entering the base editor every 5 mins to create "save points" , i do that when i remember , but sods law being what it is, its on the day i dont that i get randomly kicked

    [/ QUOTE ]
Not to mention that sometimes it takes 20 minutes of fiddling to even start getting results you like enough to want to safe.
    Especially when it's with decorations.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
Yeah I recomend PD though. Galaxy girl tends to be a bit elitest.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'd recommend Galaxy Girl, though. Pocket D tends to be a tool investation... most in the form of RPers.

Plus I've seen much more elitism going on in PD then I have at GG.

In a more balanced suggestion, I'll echo the other suggestion:
"Try both, see what you like."
  21. [ QUOTE ]

Maybe we should come up with a set of rules for PD? A universally accepted set of rules that Pocket D abides by?

    [/ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
Even by some miracle we reach a consensus that everyone on these boards can agree to... that leaves those not no these boards to fill in their own gaps and cause friction with the then established rules, followed by claims of elitism and such.

    [/ QUOTE ]
  22. I've played that the reason for the non-voilence was a imposed force that blocks all voilence before they can cause damage.

I've also played that in the case of voilence that'd bring attention to the bouncers for a forceful expulsion.

The way I see it... in Pocket D, there are only 2 sets of rules... DJ Zero's and your own.
Figuring out what Zero's rules are is the hard part.

Minors do and will drink in PD... no matter what you think or say. Accept it.
I know one character that has polished off a bottle of JD (or more) while being about 15ish. It happens, if you think you have to be 21 to get a drink there, you'll be annoyed anytime some one else thinks (or should I say: acts) differently.

Final note: thing is.. we don't know, and even if we did... there's no way to state or enforce things. Even by some mirical we reach a consensus that everyone on these boards can agree to... that leaves those not no these boards to fill in their own gaps and cause friction with the then established rules, followed by claims of elitism and such.

    About crime in Pocket D...

    To quote a NPC:
"Know what the best thing about this place is? ... No one's tried to steal my purse ALL night!"

Which caused a great deal of irritation in me to notice/see a pickpocket opperate in PD...
... even if my character did pick one pocket (but she returned the wallet... or rather passed it to a bartender, with full contents)
  23. hehehe, 8 days shy of a month between posts here.

Are recaps dying? Or are they moving to more private boards?

Is this one of those self fulfilling things?
"no one recaps anymore, why should I bother?" I know I feel this, after pwnz0rring (is that propper leet speak?) the PD recap thread.

Anyway, a brief recap from me about a plot that cropped up out of nowhere!

Last Sunday Roselin Thorne and Sarah Patriot went to the Steel Canyon hospital (who cares about their names anyway? ) and asked questions pertaining to Rose's appointment the day previous, which she missed (or did she?).

There was nothing on record about Roselin having the appointment that Saturday, nor had the bloodtest results come in while that was what sparked the appointment according to Roselin.

The two went to Roselin's apartment to get the apointment card, so they could get the name of the doctor to continue the investigation. Sadly she couldn't find it, which was odd in itself, as she's rather careful about such things.
Uppon inspection, Roselin had some needle marks that were healing nicely.

Back to the hospital, where they guessed the needle marks could have been from Saturday, they were professionally administered. After some persuasion using Lady Patriot's hero ID, they found out where Rose's blood was sent for testing.

Off they went to Founders Falls and quickly found the lab (of just some random medical company I can't be bothered to think up a name for). Inside it took some persuasion but the lab personel were helpful in trying to locate Roselin's blood sample despite it not being on file in the computer.

This lead to the capture of one of the techies that was paid and theatened to pass on the more interesting blood samples to someone he can't identify, shrouded in shadows every time they meet. He'd let them know when the next meet is.

Roselin even scared Sarah a bit when she took on a threatening posture to make sure he did (subtle shapeshifting, eyes turning redish, such things...)

After that Roselin and Sarah went on their merry way, Rose hiring a subtle PI to keep an eye on the techie.

    IC rumours

"Did you hear about last night?"

"You mean the Vagabond Hill woods gone all spooky all of a suddon?"

"Yeah, that. I know a guy who's roommate went to check it out... Would you believe he got thrown out!?"

    "No!"

"Oh yeah, but check this... he got kicked out... by a tree!"

    "No way!"

"Way! And no sights of those mages that went to check it out either"

    "Wow... weird"
