I've a character that lectures at Steel Canyon, twice a month. Never really done anything with it other then the odd comment.
Might do something with it if this kicks off, but, as said by Big Z... the time lapse will have to be overcome.
I think I'll not mention any lecture on these forums until they are completed as the next set of lectures. -
I'm making more concrete plans to get this started, thinking about rules and such, songs...
I think I'll have a slightly longer list then 3... as my brainstorming session came up with 20 songs that would be fun to do.
I'll also ask my girlfriend for some songs so some heavier metal and such might be included too. (yes, I know not everyone likes Shania Twain, The Corrs, Queen, Meatloaf and such...) -
[ QUOTE ]
I'll take part! Just pick good songs...
[/ QUOTE ]
Good songs?
Dang, and here I was going for nice and cheesy!
Cheese is good, right? -
I too started on Defiant, and still have a lvl 34 (Tower of Power) there.
True, I didn't get in to RP before finding it on Union with an other alt (now my main).
Tower of Power is now lvl 35 on Union.
Also, depending on the type of RP you're looking for, you may be able to pull it off with lvl 1 characters and keep playing the game itself on Defiant.
Of course, in mission RP will be hard... -

a typically heroic character or classic villain is limited by pocket D because of the nature of the place
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree with you on the hero part. They know there are evil doers there (even if there are none, who is to know, right?) and (s)he can't do a darned thing about them.
It's why my main used to hate PD.
(since her friends went there, she did too and just tried to ignore the villainous (or should I say obnoxious/annoying?) people (whether they be villains or heroes in the context of the game)
As for the classical villain, in my book they like to boast. What better place to do so then in a save environment as PD where there's bound to be some herous to up set.
(it's boring for most people, and rather inconsiderate of the player if he persists... which has happened)

A post to poll for an idea of mine...
Who's up for a CoX movie competition with absolutely not prize what so ever?
I'm thinking about picking two or three songs, and let you at them. Pick one and make a CoX movie about it!
If people are interested in competing, I'll put something together (must ask FG permission to use his Paragon City song...) with songs, rules and a deadline -
Okay, okay! Fine!
Jeez... managed to stay off of this for this long...
(been RPing in CoH since August 2005)
But fine, here's my info!
Global Name: @ShadowGhost & @Ghostie
Server: Union.
City of Heroes/City of Villains
Main RP Characters:
- Jessica "[u]Grav Mistress[u]" Stoneberg. Mage, peacebringer, (potential demi-god though I keep that tendancy in check) Semi retired to a tropical island
Plot monkey ability: Anything Magic you want. I can follow directions or improvise, that's up to YOU.
- [u]Roselin Thorne[u]. Manager of a jewellery shop in Port Oaks called "the Garden Jewels". Plant controller, burglar/thief, vengeful protector of her friends, licenced Paragon hero tooand a scandelous flirt.
Plot monkey ability: Anything to do with jewellery. Buying, selling, information, retrieval, determaning magic or not. Less flexible then Grav.
Minor RP characters:
- [u]Rosalin Thorne[u]. Clone of Roselin Thorne, some memories shared, some characteristics too. Occasional fruitcake (or fishcake)
- Jolanda "The [u]French Maid[u]" Saint Clair. Merc, with a more heroic disposition then your average villain/merc.
- Erik "[u]Tower of Power[u]" van Steenbergen. Grav's brother, investment banker, power house, Sarah Aegis' boyfriend.
- [u]Misha Hannigen[u]. Cheetah girl, wild cat, Unity Vigil member.
- The [u]Ultimate VorTel[u]. Powered suit from an other dimension, with a home sick pilot.
Type of RP: PD, GG, "stand about and chat"
Some light "in mission" RP, though I tend to mostly do the mission an add the odd comment.
Minor plots, I've developed an irrational fear of plots. If you need a plot monkey for a small finite part, sure... but not for much involvement.
But mostly on IRC with a select few.
Can be contacted: Anyway you know how (though ingame email is least likely)
Times on: Evenings mostly, IF I'm on... RP usually from 9pm onwards unless schedualed
Time: What the Brits use (even if I live in the European zone) -
Random lvl 32 blaster: (either just lvled or first time in a team)
"watch this!" -
Conversation continued between Pocket D regulars Sandra, and Tracey.
"Did you see what Roselin did?"
"That green red head?"
"That's her, she just gave that GoodGuy and his bride a set of jewellery! She doesn't even know them!"
"Really? Think it's a cursed set?"
"Could be, but I doubt it... From what I've heard, she's not that sort"
"It's a big present to give some one she doesn't know.. was she drunk?"
"Not likely, all she was having was orange juice, I mean, what's up with that?"
"She's a bit weird alright"
"I'll say, you know she's a [censored], right?"
"Not really a secret is it?"
"No, but she was flirting somewhat heavy with a couple of guys who appearantly were together. I think they were trying to be straight for a day or something"
"A shame, [censored] guys are so hot"

This is not my idea of good exercise

But does your idea of good exercise involve a bed with straps? -
The end is neigh!
Doooom!
They will decend on our cities like a plague!
(( add other doom saying to the growing list of pre-i10 prohpecies.. jeez.. ))
(( edit: in response to Mechano below (I don't want to clutter the thread further)
No, it wasn't at Brit, as indeed I find his construction post very nicely done
I do find his Vanguard one a bit... godmoding Vanguard... but the other "pre-cog" or "Prophecie" posts...
Please feel free to ignore this sourpuss post )) -
iirc, but correct me if I'm wrong...
You can set a lighting level for a room (or lighting colour) and apply it to the entire base.
Maybe that's the way? -
hehehe, very funny!
I like the "look at the distracting bunny" with the syringe behind her... face planted much? -
[ QUOTE ]
The War Zone will be a good place for bitter rivals to put aside their differences and start working as a team.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why?
The chances of meeting your bitter non-Rikti rival in there are next to none.
Unless it's planned, it would be a very great coincidence...
And aside from that... what's to stop you from letting the other go down in an ambush?
What's to make them team up... at all?
I'm honestly curious what people's views on it are. -
[ QUOTE ]
She has a symbiote in her body. An alien creature which came earth

Same reason Peacebringers are Natural
My main is a mage, so naturally, Magic origin... and Natural (Peacebringer too, no choice to origin) .. and Magic again (yes, three avatars, one character)
The only really 'irksomeness' for me is the Enhancements used... I never really liked that Science uses all sorts of radiation... as if that's all science does.
Anyway, not very helpful, but still... -
Beyond the "same building over and over again" Hellions... just look at the city map and where the zones are. What's in between them?
I've had a character live in a 'run down upper class' area between Steel Canyon and Independance Port.
Just don't go blowing a 100 foot crater where a mall used to stand in Boomtown -

Down the line seems to be now, so here goes!

Why does one recap?
Why does one choose to take the time to recap?
[/ QUOTE ]
I recap... hmmm... because when I started that was more or less the norm. It's become a habit. It's become an outlet for my writing. And I like to share things *shrugs* And, I think it's also a way to process what has happened.
Often I sit down and think "what happened again... was fun, this happened, that happened... but is it worth mentioning?" and then I start and besides those two parts, I remember 10 others... I add some, don't mention others. I re-live what happened in a way.
[ QUOTE ]
Why does some one read a recap?
Do you read recaps that have no bearing on your characters?
[/ QUOTE ]
I read them out of curiousity. To see what goes on in RP land, to see others having fun too!
If they're short, I'll read them unless I've grown a disliking for a player/character (yes, I know it's not nice, but it happens).
If it's a long one like Coile and Eleven tend to make... I'll skim them to see if I deem them interesting enough to read, for myself.
[ QUOTE ]
Why does one choose not to recap?
Do you choose not to?
[/ QUOTE ]
I've gone through the 'can't be bothered' fase, it's worse when it's linked with the 'why should I be the only one to' feeling.
Sometimes I don't have time, but usually I don't make the time. -
[ QUOTE ]
Its partly because of stuff I read in recaps I got into RP myself
[/ QUOTE ]
This I find a very interesting bit of information, and a valuable one. -

A-bom hasn't yet been connected to the politician-killing or the blowing up of companies... So apparently he's been able to get away with it. If seen from a strictly in-game point of view.
[/ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Like I said - the police seem happy to work with him, so apparently noone has connected him to anything.
[/ QUOTE ]
Aaaah, so you do things in RP, and so long as the game maintanes status quo (which it will) there are no concequences?
See here an other example that ICA=ICC does not work.
[ QUOTE ]
Cool, so you will Just god-mod your way out. nice.
[/ QUOTE ]
looks that way
[ QUOTE ]
I'm heckishly good at... Gah, the name eludes me... the game played in Sandman etc, where you create/turn yourself into/verbally describe stuff and the point is to make up something the other can't top... (You know, my snake eats your puppy - well, my elephant stept on your snake).
[/ QUOTE ]
Most people have such flange sense things because they make sense.
If you make the counters up on the spot... well, they may still make sense... but is rather poor show.
[ QUOTE ]
Of course, if some player seriously wanted to make A-bom go away from Paragon city for a few months, they could, of course, confront him, or spread the word in-game, or make up a story where they get on A-boms trail. But that would be seriously un-nice.
[/ QUOTE ]
To confront him IC, there'd have to be IC plausible reasons to.
Same goes for the story.
As for spreading the word in-game? What in-game are you referring to? It's not possible to spread enough word in-game to make playing it hard, especially not with RP reasons.
If you mean RP crowds in-game... well... I don't think that'll have much if any effect, as again, it would need IC knowledge and the others would have to believe it and act on it. I doubt any RP crowd you would interact with would do much with such a thing. -
let me make a guess and say..
A-bom isn't a licenced hero? (licencing would require going through the burocracy of "Hi government person" "hi, here's your licence")
No doubt people will notice and recognize him if he keeps fighting what ever he's fighting?
He'll be making a name for himself as a result, whether he wants to or not?
One link to a murder would make him a target for any hero who's inclined to uphold the law. - okay, so murdering gangmembers won't put him high on the priority list... offing politicians would.
What was your choice to make him a hero?
Clearly, in the views of Paragon, he's a vigilante and a villain. One is loosely tolerated, the other combatted. -
Why would my characters team with 'the opposite side'...
So long as they're not known/infamous... there shouldn't be too much of a problem until certain characteristics one might associate with villains surface.
If it's some one known to my character as a ... disreputable person, then ... I don't know yet, depends on my character and the level of disrepute...
One character might stab the villain in the back while he's fighting Rikti, and then finish of the Rikti.
An other would ignore it.
Yet an other might fight along side the known villain in a 'no one deserves to fall to the Rikti' sort of way... followed by a 'I'll get you once this war is over'
Maybe try to arrest the villain too?
If my main gets in a possition where she fights side by side with her 'arch nemesis' (feeling isn't that mutual, I understand) ... I've no idea what'd happen... -

[ QUOTE ]
i doubt America would be as nearly as expansionist as it is now
[/ QUOTE ]
You doubt, yes - but is there anything on it in the canon? No.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ah, is it in canon that there is coffee? Or beer? Not to my knowledge.
Is it reasonable to assume there is? Yes.
Is it reasonable to assume that a war that wrecked many countries (well, cities would be more accurate, I guess) on the globe would leave armies rather depleted?
That those armies might be pre-occupied with helping to rebuild and maintain rather then expand?
Your choice, I guess.
I'm with Cass_ on this one.
