What Ironblade said is solid. I run almost all of my characters this way and do pretty good while levelling. If I decide I want an uber build, I use my second one and build it as slow as I need to while playing with the frankenslotted one. Best part is that it works fine while levelling because any cheap set IO higher than level 24 is better than an SO so you can fill up on them early and never have to make changes.
also, one trick is that at least heroside the atlas medallion is EXTREMELY helpful and easy to pull off. Plus you can get it early (I think level 15). The +5 end is slightly more valuable than 5% recovery and it makes all your recovery bonuses work a little better too as a free bonus. For villains the equivalent is much more annoying, so it's actually easier to go rogue-hero then get it, then all the way back if you want to stay redside.
Another thing to keep in mind, is be sure to slot end reduction in your clicks more than your toggles. Clicks can cost 10-20 end in an expensive power and you might use them again and again. No toggle, not even Focused Accuracy costs close to that much. -
Actually, as far as I know, none of them are grandville missions. The one with BABS is level 30-34:

Anyone can use any aura.
The origin is just for theme, but you have complete freedom on who uses it. -
Quote:Quick comment on this. Firing outside of combat is 100% irrelevant to the value during combat. If you use whatver click power it is slotted in less than 1/10 seconds, it fires during combat more often by being slotted in tactics. If you use your click power more then 1/10 seconds (most likely a claws/ character but there are a few others) then that is the better place to put it.Sorry for the double post, but I had to touch on this.
I have found that about 90% of the time, when the Build Up proc fires in Tactics it is completely wasted because I am standing at WW, running between mobs, traveling to a mission etc.
It won't fire as often in Build Up, but at least you will get the benefit from it EVERY time it fires, instead of maybe 1 time in 10. -
I actually used to have two level 30+ TOs that spawned while I was exemplared and playing with a friend for this purpose. But I vendored them back in i17.
Some of the mid-level junk recipes and IOs work great too. Like a low-level snipe set. I used one of those once before deleting the IO. -
Quote:One thing I've noticed about AS and long fights like GMs and AVs is that they don't move a lot. One of our key strengths is that we don't usually have aggro. I just ran the IFT with my dark/dark and the way I got the best use of AS was to move forward of our tank, and as enemies ran past me to get to him, trigger AS. It would go off as they passed and hit them while they were meleeing the tank. Then I could placate move up and MG with the benefit of a crit and bruising from his attacks. Worked really well. The best was when we could team up to take down a cyclops before it triggered his tier-9.Assassin Strike NEEDS to come out faster or needs much higher "scaling" damage. Assassin Strike is terrible when the content gets harder, when the fights has many AVs, when the situation requires you run around with lots of ambush (Apex for example) and when there are just way too many s!@#$ to kill (Barracuda TF) with no down time. Assassin Strike alone doesn't bring any real benefit to the team.
On the ambushes, I was focusing on taking down the surgeons fast, and for them rather than AS, I would use MG or SL plus smite (if not hidden, or just MG if hidden).
Quote:My main is a claws stalker and I never have too much trouble with her. I proc'd the hell out of most her attacks and, because I attack so fast and frequently, things die just as fast as any other primary. I'll admit that, being my main toon, she's slotted to the teeth, but even leveling I never felt horribly gimped. *shrug* -
Quote:Actually, in all such cases where speed is balanced against high damage (katana vs Broadsword, mace vs axe, etc) Speed is the hands-down winner. Uses less endurance per point of damage, deals more damage over time, can stack buffs/debuffs better, makes better use of procs, etc. Mathematically, there is no good reason to use BS when you can instead use Nin/ or Kat/ (not talking PvP, here where the burst really matters, just PvE).Attack speed is an interesting advantage since it allows you to be mobile. Probably nowhere near enough of an advantage, though.
Even for bursty fights, like lieuts, the fast attacks can drop them plenty fast, sometimes fitting 1.5 attacks into the same animation time of a slower set's 1, thereby doing the killing blow functionally at the same time.
Faster is really a huge advantage. But I think the changes to claws for stalkers to make it the weakest choice out of the melee ATs who have access to the set.
Also, if you're proccing your attacks, DON'T use touch of death. Lame proc only has 15% chance to fire not 20. Use Lady Grey instead. =) Same damage, 1/5 the price on the market, and bonus 5% chance to fire. (Note: unless you really need that 6th set bonus obviously)
Quote:I'm thinking of leaning towards procs for some of the attacks. <SNIP> Intriguingly, the part of the set I like the most is Focus and Shockwave for the fact that the knockback is guaranteed but it's rater low mag plus they are ranged.
But I don't think it is enough. Lethal has too many drawbacks. -
Quote:I know, it is a bit of a monster isn't it =). I haven't finished levelling but have a decent chunk of the gear waiting in storage.Proc is currently broken so don't use it.
Unsure how useful that 2.5% damage is.
Sheesh I stared for awhile thinking of how to copy stuff to my own build to improve my Fire^3 Dom and that's all I came up with so far XD
I think the 2.5% damage was the reason he put the proc in, unless you can find a spot that gives better results?
What are you thinking for slotting on Sleet, and what else to to take out of the APP? -
So, this build is from Frosticus, it runs about 400 DPS and at the time it was built was one of the top 5 damaging builds for any AT. But it is a tad old, pre-inherent fitness and pre-APPs. I was looking to modernize it and if possible up the damage output. Any idea if the ice app will outperform the -res in scorpion? I'm assuming so, but not really sure. And what to do with the extra 1-slot power picks? I'm guessing assault (with just end red) and maneuvers (with either hami-o or def/end IO)? Anything better?

I actually have the worst reason for not respeccing mine:
The two I have respecced I made worse. So, now the rest of them are staying in their i17 or earlier mode until I get someone else to give me a build for them. =) -
Quote:or that you're using electric melee on a guy with high energy resist and over 5k hit points. Whittling him down using blows that only hit for 60-80 is not really fun.It confuses me that someone, especially on a BRUTE of all things, would have any difficulty at all with Trapdoor, but different people are at different levels of skill both in game strategy/performance and builds.
Though to be fair, for 50 levels the game teaches you that there's no real need for movement, then this late-game stuff comes along with Trapdoor and blue patches and all the sudden you realize the game has been lying to you for 50 levels. This is probably what causes most people problems, until they realize what's happening. -
Quote:where are those numbers from?Since those codes are one-time use per account, that seems unlikely for a significant number of existing subscribers to use them in succession over the last several quarters.

Quote:I've never had any trouble with honoree and vanguard, but trapdoor can be a pain to some builds. I have seen that part of it is the time taken to hunt down the bifurcations. When he's recovering over 150/sec and you need 20-30 seconds to find the bugger hiding under a stair or behind a box, it's annoying. I do with they were aggressive and would chase you.TL: DR
I just don't understand why and how people have difficulty with him. I also don't know why people need to invent elaborate strategies to defeat him. Never had a problem. The harder mission is with The Honoree and the Vanguard EB. Vanguard has some really nasty debuffs, and the honoree does Total Focus on yah.
Also, he doesn't stay in place so Shivan's can't really do their best work against him, whereas they mutilate honoree and schmuck vanguard dude. -
Was trying to ask about a tank build.
Not really the right place. =) -
I've deleted a few. I was really really sure they were not going to get used again. I was right. Never regretted it.
I also delete characters if I want to remake the same one with different powers, or to reuse the name. My own namesake character GavinRuneblade is currently a Fire/DB tank, but has also been a nin/dark stalker, DB/Dark stalker, DB/Dark scrapper, BS/Fire Scrapper, Axe/Elec brute and now his current tank version.
My thought is, if they are taking a slot I know I would like to use for another character I want to play then I'll think about deleting them. If I have spare slots on the server, there is no reason to delete. -
-
Two quick questions:
#1. All the builds use the Kinetic Combat Triple in boxing. do you actually USE boxing as an attack? On mine I set muled so saved 100m by slotting the proc instead.
#2. I can't seem to get enough accuracy (I did make the mistake of going with hover over combat jump and put my kismet into it so it only works when I hover but then I can't burn, grrr) yet almost all of these have only the 4 slots in attacks with only 1/2 an IO for accuracy. Are there enough set bonuses that you guys are hitting reliably? I like the fifth slot with either a mako or Crushing Impact for a touch extra acc, but it really, really makes the slots hard to come by.
Thanks! -
Quote:Hold on. I think even beyond the 400-500% thing his math is off. 100% enhancement does not mean 100 damage, it means 200 damage. 200% would mean 300 damage. 300% would mean 400 damage, etc.The cap is 500% for Scrappers (+400% on top of the base 100%), but otherwise yes.
So 400% = 400 damage is not correct. -
Quote:Or it could be that Cole is not Zeus but another force with a more paranoid bent. I do wonder if he got a bit of tartarus when he killed Stephan. It's also possible that Cole is such a control freak BECAUSE he gave up control to the Well. Once he gave up his control, he may have become determined to not lose control to others again. Bit of a "close the barn after the horses get out", but people do things like this all the time.
I find it interesting that on the Ramiel arc the Well seems to avoid Silos. Silos is definitely looking for it, Ramiel is just helping. Silos makes sure to get to it before the player and it is already gone. Ramiel waits until after Silos leaves to tell players to look around for any signs. I don't think the well is the only one who thinks Nemesis isn't a fit vessel.
One thing I find interesting about the theory that the well wants vessels who seek for more power through it, is that it doesn't show any signs of taking back its power from failed vessels like States or Recluse, or even Trapdoor. I wonder about Stheno who we also know to be a weak Incarnate (my reading is that she chose power through her offspring, not more strength from the well, but she might be a candidate for a future arc). And all of us players are seeking more power through the well but also keeping our free will. It continues to grant us more. Potentially even more than it gave to Cole, so the theory that it "wants" vessels to surrender free will I think is flawed. I think it doesn't care one way or the other about will, just like good and evil, free will is totally irrelevant to the well. With freedom you get the power slowly, without it you get the power quickly, other than that, the well doesn't care.
fun thread =) -
Quote:The difference can become insignificant:No. A 50++ will always have more of a bonus than a lvl 50. The actual bonus will vary depending upon the type and how far you exemp down.
See
* Exemplar Effects on Enhancements
* Enhancements (specifically the single origin and schedule A-D parts)
Level 1 H++: 0.806%
Level 1 H: 0.733%
Both are less than 1% enhancement at that point. So higher yes, but not like you'd notice. =) -
Had a really fun similar bug last night. During the final fight with Nictus Rommie on an ITF, Imperious got stunned, then swapped sides and went hostile to us. Not often you get to see "You have defeated Imperius" (Technically the tank on the team got the kill, not me).
Hehe. Still awesome. -
I play for the story. If I want it hard I fight malta, Rularuu or other hard enemies.
If the enemy dies faster, I get to see the next bit of the story sooner, that's not boring, that's efficient. =)
Freaks at +4 instead of +3 is boring nomatter if it is x0 or x8. -
I suspect that it is a variation of the bug that causes patrols to attack regular spawns that hits almost all missions from time to time.

-
It had no effect at all on my playstyle. I play all my alts, and I always did. I have unlocked the alpha on all of my 50s, including the ones who leveled since i19. More than half were unlocked as a side effect of helping people who were in Oro asking for help with trapdoor. I have level shifted only 3 of them, none deliberately, I just play them and if I get enough rewards for an upgrade, great, if not, great!
As far as I'm concerned, it's a game and for me the is fun comes from playing not having. the rewards are pretty much meaningless to me. I don't hunt badges deliberately, I don't grind accolade powers, and I don't grind shards. I just do what's fun. None of my characters are optimized. I have a fire/shield brute who "should" have been a scrapper because both sets perform better on scrappers. I have a dark/dark stalker, where both those sets are weakest. And none of them are properly slotted. Hell, about half my characters still don't have inherent fitness because I haven't respecced them.
I contribute to the team. I can solo and have fun at 0/0 no bosses with every character no matter how gimped. Everything else is gravy.
Incarnate content will have no effect on my play. When I log in I go through the list and find which character has been logged out the longest and play that one. =) Unless a team asks specifically for something, then I'll swap.
